Welcome back, movie fans, to another episode of Real Talk with D Take Five. This is our spoiler-free review of Angel Studios' newest movie, Young Washington, which came out earlier this weekend. Now, before we get to it, I do want to just take a quick minute to wish everybody a happy fourth. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I hope you guys got some good food. You got the day off of work, unlike myself. And then, of course, I do hope that the weather was much cooler in your area than it was over here in our area. But with all that being said, let's go ahead and talk about Young Washington. Now, this movie was made by Angel Studios, which is an up-and-coming company. They're really starting to push themselves forward. And I've always appreciated this company because they are faith-based, but they're known for hits like Sound of Freedom, The Chosen. So I was super excited to see a period piece like this, which talked about Washington in his younger days. So the movie does focus, of course, on George Washington, but it doesn't take the route of his presidency or even his time as general in the Revolutionary War. This more focused on his younger years during the French and Indian War. The actor who played him, William Franklin Miller, he did a remarkable job. The movie, of course, also does feature Ben Kingsley, Andy Circus, Kelsey Grammar. So we do have a pretty star-studied cast here, but without wasting any more time, let's go ahead and jump to the movie. So I walked into this movie not knowing really what to expect. Obviously, Washington is one of those historical figures that we all read about and learn about in high school, or even elementary school for that matter, but a lot of media does skip over his younger years and they kind of jump straight to the more recent times, I guess. So his presidency, his uh times as general. So it takes a different approach by focusing on his younger experiences that shaped him into the man that we know from history. But overall, I really, really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was wonderful. The action was great. But it let me let me actually break this down. If you guys are going in expecting something like The Patriot with Mel Gibson, you might be rather disappointed. The Patriot is a much larger scale action film, which obviously takes place during the Revolutionary War. Whereas Young Washington feels more like a character-driven historical drama with action mixed into it. Now, when the action occurs, it really hits. It really is engaging. The battle scenes are exciting, they're very well filmed, and they're there to support Washington's journey rather than to actually dominate the entire movie, like I would say the Patriot does. One thing I did appreciate was that Washington as a person, and you guys might even know this from his uh historical or from the historical days, but he was not instantly great at everything, which I really, really appreciated. Instead, this shows a young man who is ambitious, he makes mistakes, a lot of mistakes for that matter. He learns from his failures and he slowly grows into that leader that we know. And of course, whether or not you're a history buff, I do think that the story in general is a very interesting story. From what historians and reviewers have said about this movie, it does follow a bit of historical events. Whether or not it's to the T, I don't know for sure. But I think it can easily be looked past and you can just go and enjoy a great movie. That being said, like almost every historical movie ever made, there are some changes that were probably made for dramatical effect. There's a few events that were probably compressed, conversations, obviously, but there are also some scenes that I know for a fact I remember reading in the history books, which I'm not going to spoil for you guys, but I this is why I highly recommend you just go and see it. Personally, I don't mind that a movie captures this, you know, actually let me rephrase that. I don't mind if a movie doesn't necessarily capture the spirit of perfect historical accuracy. I am all about if it entertains me or not. If it does have some historical accuracy in it, fantastic, especially for something like this. But I like that it captures more of the dramatic effect rather than actually pretending to be just a documentary. So if it inspires someone to go and read more about George Washington and the French and Indian War, then I'd say their mission is accomplished. Like I said, the performances were such a highlight for me. The pacing may not work for everybody. There are moments where the movie does slow down to focus more on Washington's growth, a little bit of the romance aspect. So if you're expecting a nonstop action movie, this probably isn't gonna be for you. But again, I did appreciate the balance because it did get give the story more weight. And I think it added more to the action scenes that we did get throughout the movie. So overall, if you love American history, if you love historical dramas, or if you're just looking for something different, you know, rather than your usual summer blockbuster, I definitely do believe Young Washington is worth checking out. Like I mentioned earlier, I wouldn't put it in the same category as the Patriot, but I do think it's trying to tell us a different story, a story of inspiration, a story of growth, a story of good leadership. And of course, just, you know, teaching us a little something, even if it's not exactly how it's supposed to be. But for me, I would honestly give Young Washington a solid eight and a half out of 10. It kept me engaged. I learned a few things along the way. I obviously knew some things going into the movie as well, as far as history. I love that there was some good native representation in the movie as well. And I walked out wanting more of it. I want to see another chapter of it. Whether or not they actually do, I don't know. But I would love to see a continuation of this story. But if you have seen the movie Young Washington, let me know what you guys think. I would love to hear all of your thoughts.
