Today's episode focuses on one key word: Chemistry! And Jenna Johnson is going to show these dancers how to do it! Question is...do Daryl and Monise agree with how it is portrayed? What exactly does it mean to have chemistry on the dance floor? And which couple will be eliminated in the DOUBLE ELIMINATION?! Tune in now to hear it all!

SPEAKER_00

Hello, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of Real Talk with D. This has been our Dancing with the Stars, the Next Pro recap. Today we are on episode four as we bring on the intensity, aka Chemistry with guest Judge Jenna Johnson. So before we begin this episode, um, how did you feel with the episode? I as you guys know, I'm joined once again by my lovely wife.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah. Hi, I'm here too. I'm Monise. Um, yes, chemistry is super important when you dance. I mean, we're a married couple when we dance, and it and it's very funny. It's like I get told, like, hey, you need to actually look at your husband when you dance with it. Like, you know, like I I get that.

SPEAKER_00

Um Yeah, we we've actually been told there is no chemistry between us at one point. So I was like, well, that's kind of bad, but okay.

SPEAKER_01

We were so focused on the dance we were we were focused on each other. Yeah, I think I got in trouble one time for every time I didn't look at you uh during a dance.

SPEAKER_00

Well, we were actually told by one of our coaches that we're so focused on each other, like one another. Like I'm focused on me, you're focused on you instead of focused on each other. So we did learn from that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, and it's something you have to learn, but there's you know, this one seems very focused on the um, shall we say, intimate chemistry. So like every dance is a different chemistry, right? So like tango, very passionate, Argentine tango, extremely passionate, like very sexy, rumba is lustful, samba is like sexy, playful energy, cha cha's very similar vibe. But it seems like our only goal is um how how close our mouths can get, and that equals chemistry.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I mean, even just to piggyback off of what you said, I mean, so today the dancers get assigned either the Rumba or the Argentine tango two very passionate dances. Now, we had mentioned, we'll we'll go down the recap too. We're re we're gonna re-watch the episode and we'll we'll uh discuss each dance and everything, but just a quick run-through is that I wish that the dancers got to actually pick what dance they do instead of it getting assigned to them because you know you have someone like Tristan and Stephanie who had already done Rumba before, and obviously they didn't get in trouble like AJ did when he repeated a jive, but that's he got to pick it. He got to pick it, yeah. So that was kind of on him, but still, like we should have switched it up a little bit, had them pick a dance, a dance that they have not done yet. We have only seen, not counting the group dance, one individual ballroom dance on here. And to me, that's not enough. I know, I know we do a lot more Latin dances on Dancing with the Stars, but come on now, how many times do we do Viennese waltz? How many times do we do Tango? You know, Foxtrot, exactly. I know we don't get a lot of slow waltz anymore, but even so, there are plenty of other ballroom quick step for crying out loud. Yeah, you know, but we don't we don't get enough of it. But when you look at a dance like Rumba and Argentine Tango, of course you're gonna have that passionate chemistry. But let's look at a dance like the waltz, for example. What do you what do you first think of when you think of the waltz?

SPEAKER_01

Elegance, class.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. It's it's great partnership. It's like you're it's the waltz is meant to be treated like you're floating in the sky, that nothing can touch you when you're out on that dance floor. But in order to create that, you have to have one thing connection. And if that connection, that connection has to feel effortless. Yeah. You breathe together, there's conversation in movement, so it's not like one person saying, you know, all right, we're gonna we're gonna do a natural turn, we're gonna do a reverse turn, anything like that. More so they communicate with their bodies. The gentleman tells the lady, all right, come with me. But he does it through the movement and everything. They have trust in one another, the timing becomes shared, but it's not romantic. Yeah, you know, it's meant to just have grace, it's meant to have different elegance. You look at each other differently, but more importantly, you find a way to show people how you stand out versus just doing a basic waltz. Does that make sense? You know, so, anyways, that's my rant. Let's go ahead and jump into the episode here. So we open up with everybody. Of course, the judges get introduced once again, and like you mentioned last week. And then, of course, we introduce our guest judge, Jenna Johnson, who comes out doing exactly what we were just talking about. So I'm gonna let you take this one.

SPEAKER_01

So she's a she's a great dancer, but it's I think you and I watched it and we're like, how many times did they almost kiss? So we went and we counted 10 times. That's not including all the cuts they do to show the contestants ooing and awing at the dancing like they're being coached to do. Ooh, ah, cheer. You know, like they get coached to do that. And I'm just like, again, you're a fabulous dancer, but to show chemistry, if that's the only way you can show chemistry, then we have a problem. And that's not the only way Jenna knows how to show chemistry. And you know, this must sound horrible. I've danced with a lot of guys, I've done a lot of dances with a lot of different men. That sounds so bad. But like, you know, like I feel like I've had good chemistry with them, but I'm not almost kissing them. Because to me personally, that feels a little disrespectful to you as my whether you're my boyfriend, my fiance, not my husband, like whatever you were when I was doing those dances at the time. I just like I don't, and like her and Val seem very secure in their relationship, and that's awesome for them, and I'm so happy, but it's like I don't I don't feel like that's the only way you can show chemistry, is just like your faces almost kissing and touching and things like that. I I feel like that's a very it was a good song choice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and you know, again, it did it did add for the dance, but I agree. It didn't, it didn't need 10 almost kissing moments, and obviously they weren't going to kiss, you know, we're not saying that, but it did seem a little much. Yeah. But yeah, like, you know, I agree. I don't really think I can say anything more. There are other ways that you can show chemistry.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, so like I said, like great dance, she's a beautiful dancer, so she gives them the challenge that they're gonna have to chemistry, do chemistry. So then they go the next day, and they essentially do what she calls salsa speed dating for couples, dance couples. So they all have to like switch. This reminds me a little bit of the cumbia. Um, Daryl introduced me to it. It's like where you dance in like a circle and you switch partners, and I mean that's fun. So it's it was fun to like watch them improv dancing.

SPEAKER_00

Just for clarity, it's ruetta.

SPEAKER_01

That's oh, cumbia's the step.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry. I do know my dancing, right? I'm sorry, yeah, cumbia, rueta, ruetta dancing. Cumbia is gosh, I feel like.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's okay.

SPEAKER_01

It happens, it's late at night, so but yeah, and so like it was fun to kind of watch them improv and do it, and then you hear them talk about like I get great chemistry dancing with this person. I bless Selena, they did not do the best cut, but she's like, I have great chemistry dancing with Eric. And it was literally a moment where she wasn't following Eric very well. And I was like, Y'all, that's just mean editing. Like, I'm sure they had great moments where they were dancing well together. Like they show the one where she like stopped following his lead. And again, no shame. Like, I struggle to follow some guy's lead sometimes. But yeah, it was, I mean, it was cool. I enjoyed watching them all like get to dance together and do different things in improv because I mean that's social dancing. If you go to a dance party or social dance, you're gonna see people doing things like this.

SPEAKER_00

You can clearly see that there are some people who have better connections with others too. So, like, you know, obviously AJ and Adele have really nice chemistry. Alan and Nina have danced before, they have really great chemistry. I, you know, I love Alan, and right now he is still probably my number one pick. And I think I said this last week, but I'm gonna reiterate it again. Somebody who is, I feel like is not being showcased enough, but who is really, really standing out for me is Eric.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's he's doing amazing.

SPEAKER_00

And like, I just anybody he dances with, he just knows how to carry it, in my opinion. I really like his style too. I think Alan has a little bit more creativity, but I really believe Eric has an amazing style.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. No, I I love watching him dance. I love the way he commands a floor, whoever he's with, he commands really, really well. And it's like you can tell they feel safe dancing with him. And I that's really, really important.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Absolutely. Yeah, I'm I mean, out of curiosity, who do you think has the best pairing just out of these ones?

SPEAKER_01

Like who they picked or who so they end up picking um Eric and Selena go together. They seem very comfortable after dancing paso together last week. Um, Adele picks AJ in a shock. I thought she would honestly go for Alan. Um, but I think they they have a great chemistry. I think it's smart to pick someone else, but then both Stephanie and Nina go for Alan.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that was so awkward.

SPEAKER_01

That was very awkward, and then Tristan's alone, and then Tristan's of course all upset about it.

SPEAKER_00

Now, don't get me wrong, that would hurt. That would have 100% hurt. But look at also look at that as a challenge to show why you're worthy to that you somebody should have picked you, kind of thing, if that makes sense.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. And then so eventually Stephanie will go goes to Tristan because AJ picked Nina for his partner. Here's my thing on dancing with the stars, I don't know how they do partners. I know height difference is a thing. I think they do personality tests in a way, but I I think they should have gotten randomly assigned. Because I do like I giving Stephanie the benefit of the doubt here, like I like Alan is of course gonna pick Nina, but for Stephanie, she's danced with Tristan in a rumba before. She danced with Tristan in the group dance last week, and we saw how that went. So it's like I understand. She's like, I want to dance with someone new, and I do think that's good. So, no, I don't think Adele should have picked Alan. Like they danced her and AJ danced in a group dance, but they were switching partners often. So I do think they should have switched it up. Like Nina maybe should have had Eric, or Adele should have had Eric, and then maybe Adele goes to Tristan, and then Stephanie can have um Alan. But like you, you know, yeah, you gotta pick your chemistry, but you don't get to pick your partner on the show, and you still have to have chemistry with them. So I I feel like that kind of defeated the purpose of the chemistry challenge.

SPEAKER_00

This whole little like sort of schoolyard pick, if you want to call it that, I just feel like it was really unnecessary and was only made to create drama. And it was very evident that that's what it was for.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because it I mean it was just uncomfortable.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and then she, you know, she goes to Tristan and Tristan's just being like awkward with her, and he's he's which I get, you're upset. But I mean, don't she ex if she wants to try dancing with someone new, there's nothing wrong with that. So yeah, I like you said, it was just a schoolyard pick. It was unfortunate, it was just for the drama. I think they should have just assigned partners, like literally they've been doing the entire time. I think the only time they didn't was when they did the schoolyard pick for groups.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So I I just wish they would have they would have kept it with assigning.

SPEAKER_00

So, anyways, we have two rumbas and two Argentine tangos. We have Alan and Nina dancing Argentine tango along with Eric and Selena, while AJ and Adele and excuse me, uh, what's his name? Tristan and Stephanie dance rumba.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So let's talk about these partnerships for a minute. Before we actually get to the dancing, they kind of have to go on dates. How did you feel about that?

SPEAKER_01

I like I get hanging out with your partner and getting to know them, but I'm also like, why are we shown this? Like in the studio with the celebrity, like, we know the hangout because they post Instagram stories and we see that, but most of the time it's them in the studio dancing and getting to know each other. I don't need to see them on a boat ride together or on a Ferris wheel or getting drinks together. I just want to see them dance. Like, honestly, the show could be 30 minutes with how much unneeded drama there is in it.

SPEAKER_00

Agreed. And you know what was kind of funny too is one of the first things we saw was Selena and Eric on the dance floor, and you can still see that Eric is kind of working with her a little bit on she even said, I don't know what I'm doing. And she's I anyways, go ahead.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that fresh because it's like so she got AJ week two, who helped her with the drive technique. She was in a group dance last week where with Eric again, where he, you know, he's helping with the pasadoble technique, figures, things like that. And in the first week she did her samba thing, but it's like can can't are you gonna be able to teach the techniques and teach a routine to someone who doesn't know anything of what they're doing if you're still getting teaching now? Like that's like she's a there's no conf there's no debate that she's a phenomenal dancer and performer. No debate. And I'm sure she'd be a wonderful teacher and contemporary and lyrical, but that's not the main point of the show. You're gonna be teaching someone cha cha, you're gonna be teaching someone Argentine tango, you're not just gonna be teaching it, you're gonna be choreographing the dances. Yeah, I know other pros help each other, but is she gonna have Valen there every week choreographing it for her?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, she might.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, she might, but like he's he's gonna have his own partner he needs to worry about, depending on who he's who he's in there with. She's she's gonna have to do her partner. So it's it's a little alarming to me that we haven't had a teaching challenge yet, and that hasn't been evident. And of course, like, no, no one is gonna be like, oh, I've been teaching Selena the whole time because all they're doing is performing and who can perform well. But okay, but you're gonna have someone who most likely doesn't know what they're doing coming in and you're gonna have to teach them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's there really is a lot that we don't necessarily need to be seeing right now, you know, because and even Val has said this before. I know Val's not on the show, but he has said what makes a good um dancing with the Stars Pro is being able to teach the material. It doesn't matter how good of a dancer you are, you need to be able to teach. So the fact that we're probably gonna get if we do get any kind of teaching challenge, is probably gonna be the last week or something like that, when it should be maybe over the course of two or three weeks, in my opinion. But yeah, again, I just I feel like they're and I I realize that's what the audience wants to see. We want to see dancing, but you can still we can still see dancing if you give us some teaching moments.

SPEAKER_01

But how are you gonna teach chemistry to your partner? How are you gonna teach technique to your partner? How are you gonna teach them in a group dance and choreograph with other pros? Like, all this can be like teaching chemistry, teaching like you can you can add the teaching aspect in.

SPEAKER_00

I guess it's still the aspect of though that they have to have it themselves first, and we clearly see not everybody has it based off these routines. So I guess it's just the true test. But like this, since we're kind of at the halfway mark, I think this would be a good point to start shifting over to the teaching moments, but I think it's gonna be the finale.

SPEAKER_01

I think I feel like it's gonna be the finale.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So, anyways, Tristan uses also uses this time instead of really kind of practicing, he just kind of sits and says how he's just gonna keep twisting the knife and everything. He's petty. He's a little and he's openly admitted that he's petty. And again, you know, you have every right to be upset about something like that, but you're wasting time. You really are, and you know, it's like you're you're still competing in a challenge here, but you gotta jump on it. And obviously, this is making Stephanie quite nervous.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I would be too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so and given that Stephanie didn't even really want him in the first place, and it was primarily because she's danced with him already.

SPEAKER_01

So because last week he he freaked out, he broke down, and so it's like it's happening again.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. So yeah, we we didn't need that, we didn't need the the special dates if that's what you want to call it. It looks like they're on dates, like like you said, the whole Ferris wheel thing and riding alone on a boat together. Somebody even had dinner set up, and yeah, it could be you know a friend-to-friend thing, and clearly that's what it is, but it's like don't make this like The Bachelor or Love Island, because this is the kind of stuff that they go and do, yeah. But I don't know. I guess this is also the time where we where we learn about like some backstories and things like that, which I'm not gonna lie, I kind of zoned out on, but yeah, I couldn't tell you what they like.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not interested. Like we watch the dancing for the dancing, like even when Dancing with the Stars to some of the drama where it's like the judges hurt my feelings. It's like, well, judges are judging. Welcome to the show. Like, this is what you signed up for. Or like when they add like some like try to like push a romance or something, it's like, okay, can we just not one thing I do want to talk about though is what ends up happening next when Jenna actually goes in and starts coaching everybody.

SPEAKER_00

Now, don't get me wrong, Jenna is a wonderful dancer, very beautiful dancer. She dances very well with Val. But when when I first started watching Jenna on Dancing with the Stars, I was not the craziest about her choreography. And I just she was she wasn't a standout to me. Over the years, I definitely think she has improved.

SPEAKER_01

But she had her best season with Joey.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, 100%. I I love Joey, and she had some really great choreography with Joey, especially the Tarzan dance. But um the one thing I did not like though is how every single thing that they had to do in the dance had to involve their faces basically connecting and touching with one another. And it's like, you know, it just goes back to what we were talking about at the beginning of this. Why do we need that? Yes, these are very passionate dances, but there are still other ways that you can showcase that without constantly having to almost be kissing or like getting on your knees and getting right into you know a person's midsection, or even like not to even bring this up. It almost looked like it was getting close to some private areas too. Yeah. But anyways, how do you feel about this?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like I I get you have to get close, like especially in Argentine Tanga, you have to get close, and in Rumba, you'll get close in some areas, but I feel like I've been able to dance those dances with a partner, but I haven't had had the need to like have my lips almost touch my partner. You know, I've been able to, you know, show chemistry, show a connection without all of that extra there. And I don't know, I just feel like it's there's too much emphasis on like, oh my gosh, it's so close. And like, yes, we want there to be lots of tension, lots all of that, but I don't know, it just seems like a little excessive for me.

SPEAKER_00

To me, that seems like what we would call obvious chemistry. Yeah. So it's like you're meant to show that you're almost romantically interested in somebody without actually being romantically interested. Whereas you can still easily show chemistry by engaging eye contact with one another. Like I almost want to say that Tristan and Stephanie had better chemistry in their first dance, their first rumba dance that they did together, because they even said Tristan cannot take his eyes off of Stephanie. That was good. That was really, really good. And I actually like that he was able to do that. But that right there, that's chemistry. Yeah, you're locking eyes with your partner, you have trust in one another. There are ways that you can do that without making every single move sensual.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And like reacting to the touch. Like when they touch your arm, like how do you react to it? How do you move your body? Are you like connecting as you walk around? Like what, like you there's so many other elements other than okay, like our noses are close together. Here we go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's about awareness at the end of the day. It's about, you know, not not thinking to yourself, like, okay, what step comes next?

SPEAKER_01

More, three, four, one. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Four, one. But more so you're thinking, all right, where's my partner? Oh, there they are. Yeah. You know what I mean? It's yeah, it's it's hard to explain, but there are other ways to show chemistry. I'm gonna say that again and again. So I was just, I was not the craziest fan of this. Other people might like it, but there are plenty of other ways that you can show chemistry with your partner without getting this sensual. Yeah. And we might be the only ones who have issues with it, but that's just our two cents on it. But, anyways, let's go ahead and shift on over to the performances. So, first up, we have AJ and Adele dancing their rumba. So, we'll be right back as we check that out. And we are back from just watching AJ and Adele dancing a very romantic rumba. Now, I will say, I know I'm about to literally retract everything that we just got done talking about because you know, you the rumba's known as the dance of love and c lust, yes. So, you know, they clearly showed that, which was good. I thought the dance was beautiful. I thought they engaged in each other very, very well. Now, regarding the judge's comments.

SPEAKER_01

Can they back off AJ? I feel like they really do come down hard on him. Shirley specifically.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like I feel like Shirley has a little thing against AJ, but like why did she mention why did she want to have him rip his shirt off?

SPEAKER_01

Because she wants him to loosen up. And so she's like, I don't know, like you could have done that. Like, what no, what would that have anything to do with this? Are we undressing now for chemistry? Like so no, I just I like I think they both did a great job. Like, again, there was like my other thing is they're also competing to be pros on the show. Like, can we follow the rules of the rumba and not have lifts? Oh, yeah, that's true. Like, I feel like we we aren't always following the rules and we're adding lifts and things, and I've kind of like kept my mouth shut because it's mainly been like one or two, but I feel like there was a lot of lifts in this world. There were, and so I'm just kind of like, you know. Had so many great moments. Why do we why did we need a lift in this? Because you when you choreograph it for a celebrity, you're not gonna do a lift in the rumba.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so that that was that's just one thing from me.

SPEAKER_00

Now, I mean, sometimes though, because this is just show and you and I are guilty of doing lifts as well in our rumbas before, do you think that would make any difference or anything?

SPEAKER_01

I my thing is they're competing to be a pro on the show where they're gonna do this with a celebrity. So I think like maybe we stay away from those because we're not gonna be able to do them in the rumba when we competed. But like that's just my thing. Like, yeah, if it's just a show dance number, sure, do a lift. Um but yeah, like I think they were great. I just I mean Adele's fabulous, but it's like let's give AJ his flowers too. Cause like even last week, when he led the group to victory, when he did such a great job, she had to say it's not about you. I'm like, Wait, he he led his team to victory. Like, give him his flowers.

SPEAKER_00

Like well, she said it's not about you, but she said that he kind of redeemed himself from that.

SPEAKER_01

But well, she finished on the it's not about you.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right, right, right, for sure. No, I thought the dance was beautiful. Um, they really hit heavy on Adele, like praising praising her big time. And she is a beautiful dancer, but did you mention something about her head?

SPEAKER_01

I feel like her chin is always down, like it's to her chest. I'm sorry, I'm doing it, no one can see me. I feel like she dances, and I feel like a lot of Latin women dance that way. I prefer the head held high, not always down. Like I get it like down to emphasize something, but I feel like she emphasizes down with her head so many times, it loses it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

That's just a that's a person, that's that's a personal opinion. That's not like a right or wrong way to do it. That's just a very personal opinion of mine. Okay. Preference. That's the word I'm looking for.

SPEAKER_00

Cool. All right. Well, well done, AJ and Adele. We're gonna go ahead and move on to our next dance. Stand by, everybody, as we watch Eric and Selena perform the Argentine Tango. We'll be right back. And we are back from watching I almost said AJ. His name is Eric and Selena dancing in Argentine tango. I swear, you're gonna think I'm like half in love with Eric, but he did incredible.

SPEAKER_01

My eyes were on him. Even when the camera was trying to keep my eyes on Selena because the camera put, I wasn't looking at Eric the whole time.

SPEAKER_00

He's so good. He really is so good. And I'm gonna just take a little sidetrack really quick. I just want to point something out here. Eric is the only person on this show who has had a variety. He's done Viennese Waltz, he's done Jive, he's done Argentine Tango, he's done Pasadoble. Like he really has made his way around, and he's the only person to have done that so far. So, I mean, shoot, let's give him the trophy at this point, you know.

SPEAKER_01

He's the only one left to have done a ballroom dance.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. He really is, though. And I love Alan to death. But, you know, I mean, if we if we were to just decide this tomorrow, I'm giving it to Eric. But yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. Alan did do a tango in the group dance with AJ. But even so, you know, they he he's an amazing dancer, Eric. He really, really is. But I really couldn't take my eyes off him, like you.

SPEAKER_01

No, like he was, I felt like he was giving everything and Selena was feeding off him. Personally, like when it came to chemistry and connection, I feel like it was him really in it, and she was I like it was I think feel like it was mostly him. Personally, I would have liked a few more ganchos and ultros in there. Like those are very intricate Argentine tango stuffs. I almost feel like this should have just been a tango with the way it was addressed. Like there were Argentine elements, there was like one little flick and foot section, but like olchos are such a big part of Argentine tango. Some ganchos are such a big part of Argentine tango. Like, I would have loved to have a little bit of that, more of that in there.

SPEAKER_00

They did have, you know, like your basic salitas, you know, where they're where they're cruising around the floor, and I get that. But you'll notice too, a lot of the times when they do Argentine on the show, it's crowded with lifts. Like that's that's like the perfect opportunity for these pros to showcase all their crazy lifts that they can do with their stars and everything. So they do kind of get away with not showing too too much Argentine content, which is why I love dancers like Pasha and Daniela who fill it with content and everything.

SPEAKER_01

But like Cheryl and Juan Pablo's look at that Argentine tango. That is like there was one lift, I think. One or two lifts, maybe. That was like pure the steps was so beautiful.

SPEAKER_00

Even Gilles Marini, yes, Gilles Marini has one of my favorite Argentine tangos. Yeah, do that one as well. But yeah, I I mean, overall, good dance. The judges gave it a standing ovation.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

How'd you feel with that?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, my Eric does like my eyes were on Eric. I think Eric, Eric was the winner of that piece for sure.

SPEAKER_00

Definitely.

SPEAKER_01

But like something I think that bothered me when they came, like is Selena was talking about for herself again rather than dancing for a pair. And of course you're competing for yourself, but I mean, like Eric's like, oh, for like I feel like everyone else is talking about like Alan and Nina, for example, are talking about each other. I don't want to let you down, I don't want to let you down, I don't want to let you down. But like, it's like I get you're competing for yourself, but you're also responsible for another person right now being in. So I don't know, it's it's just a little frustrating because it's like when it comes down to it, you're actually pushing for your celebrity to win, not you. You're trying to make it a great experience for your celebrity. What's Shirley Ballis' line? It's not about you, you know.

SPEAKER_00

But that never gets said to Selena. No, it doesn't. The world is gonna hate we is gonna think that we hate Selena.

SPEAKER_01

She's a fabulous dancer. I think she just needs to spend more time in ballroom. I think she'll I agree. I think she needs to go to a studio, take lessons, and go to a competition. I'm sure she'll win every category she's in, but like actually get it, not just do a tour with Derrick Huff, and that's your ballroom experience. Like, take classes. I'm sure she's taken some classes since, but go and compete in a at least a competition so you get the feel for it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, if she could do that, and if they if they happen to do this show again and she comes back with more experience training, then yeah, she could pull it off.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, she would win.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Definitely. All right, everybody. We're gonna go ahead and take a couple minutes as we watch Tristan and Stephanie. We will be right back. All right, we are back. We just finished watching Tristan and Stephanie dance a rumba. You can take the reins for this one. Let's let's hear it.

SPEAKER_01

I felt like there was technique missing, like there wasn't a proper always rotation in the hip. So hip rotation and rumba, you have a figure eight and like a pendulum, right? So you want to make sure you're always like rotating your hip. And like when your hip is going one way, your chest is going the other. There's opposition in the body with the Latin action. Um, I felt like that was missing on both of them. Um I didn't, you know, they didn't have a lot of facial touches, but they weren't really focused on each other at all. I felt like they were missing each other because like, you know, there wasn't a lot of face grabs. And this song is so good. Like, I like like, you know, like the song for the chemistry. It's, you know, about a like, you know, I don't know if you do you know the song at all?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know any of these songs. I think the only one I've known so far was the one that Janet danced to in the beginning, You Don't Own Me.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. So I mean, like this song is saying, like, how can we go back to being friends after sharing a bed? No, like, you know, I support staying spiritual marriage, but essentially what the song is saying, it's like they they had a moment and now they're supposed to go back to being friends after, like, like, how can we do that? Like, I was so vulnerable with you. And so that one is like so, like, I feel like that's probably one of the easiest songs to have the chemistry with in this moment to like feel that with someone. And I just feel like they were missing it, like, really, like he like in the first one, he didn't take his eyes off her, and this one he wasn't looking at her half the time.

SPEAKER_00

I felt like I'm wondering if he was still feeling that rejection rejection and the pettiness, and it was just getting to him. It was it was getting the best of him, essentially. Yeah, because you're right, he did dance a better rumba with her earlier in the weeks. But no, I agree. I think that with a dance like this, it's well, one thing to know about Rumba, and Mark kind of hit on this too, but I agree with him, is that Rumba always has to have movement in it, no matter what. Pretty much every dance has to have movement in it. But what I'm saying is that whenever you dance the rumba, you have those nice fluid moments that you have with your partner, but then there's a moment where you kind of stop and you kind of sink into that movement. You know what I mean? But there's a moment where you almost freeze, but then you bust into the next move, and it's almost a very explosive moment, if that makes sense. I wish we could demonstrate it to show you guys, but there's there has to be that kind of connection. That's another way that you can develop chemistry without creating the the kissy face, if you want to call it that. But they were they were definitely lacking that. We were we were watching, you know, a couple of telespins and opening outs, which are very nice. I had a lot of good content in there, but we were dancing a gener or a generic Rumba.

SPEAKER_01

And the the assignment is the rolling round on the floor. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That was one thing that you said right off the bat.

SPEAKER_01

I just didn't feel like that was necessary, but okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's I mean, it just goes back to what we were saying. But again, this is the dance that probably has the least amount of, you know, kissy faces, but yet it was still kind of the weakest one. So where do you fall with that? Because it kind of does negate what we were saying earlier that maybe, maybe Jenna's right. Maybe we do need those kissy faces to actually create the chemistry. They didn't have it. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but they weren't even really looking at each other when they danced. They were just more emotional. Like there, there was there wasn't they had them disconnect with each other.

SPEAKER_00

I'm with you, and I feel like out of all three, it it was probably not the strongest one, in my personal opinion. But to me, Tristan looked distracted.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He definitely looked distracted, and I think Stephanie's just trying way too hard, in my opinion. And it seems like when Jenna gave the feedback to Stephanie, it almost kind of triggered her a little bit. Like the minute she said, like, she's missing that fire or whatever, like you can see it was it was affecting Stephanie big time. Yeah. Because I think that she knew she's gonna be on the bottom now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But anyways, let's move on to our final dance of the evening, which is going to be Alan and Nina. We'll be right back. All right, and we are back with the last dance of the evening with Alan and Nina dancing the Argentine tango, which according to Shirley, there was not enough of, and I'm kind of with her, there wasn't a lot of Argentine tango. But as a dance in general, it was really nice.

SPEAKER_01

It was it was a dance you would see definitely like the pros do, like where they kind of combine for sure. They need one. I wish they would have let them pick the song.

SPEAKER_00

That was a terrible choice for a song. That was definitely more of a rumba song than there was samba too. You can slow samba in it, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So I wish they would have let them pick the song because that was a hard song to do Argentine tango to. But as we've seen on Dancing with the Stars, and you have definitely commented on, they suck at picking songs. They do.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, they pick constantly four counts for Viennese waltz, and it never adds up, but we'll we'll save that for the show because we know for a fact that'll happen again this year.

SPEAKER_01

So I like you said, we they have they should have done more Argentine tango, but they had great chemistry. Nina was great. It was a great performance together. I do wish there had been more Argentine tango. I wish there had been ganchos, I wish there had been um what are they called?

SPEAKER_00

Ochos.

SPEAKER_01

Ochos, thank you. Um, so yeah, I was a little bummed about that, but it was really, really good.

SPEAKER_00

It was a beautiful dance. Alan really knows how to take care of his ladies, no matter who he dances with. And Nina, you know, they said like, you know, she was on the bottom last week, but I never really saw how she was on the bottom. I've always thought Nina was just a gorgeous dancer. And she did not disappoint tonight. But I'm glad the judges praised her more. They said that, you know, she rebuilt herself, which was good. This is definitely her best dance. And of course, we gotta, you know, I I think we should turn the whole Mark and Shirley bickering into a drinking game if we actually did drink, but every single week they're bickering, which I think is hilarious. I think that's what honestly makes this for me.

SPEAKER_01

But Mother Sound. And I'm just excited the internet can't like bash Nina tonight for oh, it should have been her going home. I wasn't her going home. It's like they made the decision together to do it, so it was on her and Alan. I'm just gonna blame um Nina if she does go home tonight.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. So yeah, overall verdict for that. Terrible choice for the song, but it was a great dance.

SPEAKER_01

They made it work. They needed more Argentine tango.

SPEAKER_00

More Argentine tango, but yes, they absolutely made it work with what they were given.

SPEAKER_01

It's like we can't we can't fuss at other people and not fuss at them. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Well, as we wrap this up, we are gonna go ahead and move on to the part none of us like, which is the elimination round. So the two couples that have found themselves in jeopardy are Tristan and Stephanie, as well as Alan and Nina, which you know you gotta put somebody on the bottom, but it's like, really?

SPEAKER_01

Well, because like then Shirley says, Well, because I don't know if you can teach it. Okay, well, we haven't had a teaching challenge yet, and no offense, we're gonna pull her back up. But how do we know if Selena can do it when AJ's been coaching her on Jive and she was just coached on Argentine Tango? I don't feel like that's a fair comment to make.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, when did she make that comment? I might have missed that.

SPEAKER_01

She made it when she was talking about um Alan. Alan, like when they were eliminated, is like, because I don't know if you can you can't you didn't execute it, I don't know if you could teach it.

SPEAKER_00

You don't know if you could teach it. That's right, I remember.

SPEAKER_01

And it's like, well, you know, if you if I'm a great dancer like Selena and you choreograph it and you teach it to me, I can execute it. But could she teach it? Because she's not gonna be able to teach them that routine, she's gonna have to come up with a new routine for her people.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right. She's not always gonna be taken care of by the other male pros out there. She's gonna be doing this on her own, but yep. So at the end of the day, Tristan and Stephanie are eliminated. I'm assuming you believe that was the right choice. Yes. I do agree. I think Tristan has always been the weakest link. And again, nothing against him personally, seems like a great guy, but for this show alone, he was definitely the weakest out of everybody who's left. And, you know, Stephanie, I'm I'm not really gonna miss her either. I mean, I that sounds a little harsh, but she out of everybody that's left, she was not my number one pick to win this. And if Ezra's still on the show, she still kind of has an in.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, she has an in for sure, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But but speaking, speaking of, though, we want to also congratulate the newest troop member, which was Camry.

SPEAKER_01

That is so exciting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we don't we don't actually know her personally, but hopefully someone hears this and passes it on. But yes, congratulations, Camry. You are gonna do amazing on the show. We're super stoked to have you as a troop member. And is Haley doing it too, Haley?

SPEAKER_01

We don't know yet. I I the hope is that she becomes a pro, but they have not announced that yet.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Well, regardless, it's gonna be great. And I excuse me, I hope we get more former juniors to actually be a part of Troop, which would be a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_01

I love that.

SPEAKER_00

So that'd be a lot of fun. So, anyways, next week we have our queen herself, Daniela Karagash, jumping in as she works on the wow moment.

SPEAKER_01

Creating a wow moment.

SPEAKER_00

Creating the wow moment. Okay, before we jump to the conclusion of this, I'm just gonna say, really? Do we need do we need this honestly?

SPEAKER_01

But okay, wow moment is what people remember, but from what we can see, it looks like they're all doing contemporary.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_01

Where you can do a wow moment in Waltz, you can do a wow moment in Vienne's Waltz, you can do a wow moment in Tango. I mean, like the Samba Wow moment was Joey and Jenna doing their little like section in it, but still doing Zamb, but like you can do so many crocodile rock walk looking at Robert Irwin and his drive. Like you can create wow moments in a lot of different dances.

SPEAKER_00

Wait, Robert danced to crocodile rock?

SPEAKER_01

No, they did like the crocodile walk. Oh, the wall.

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna say I thought Bindy danced to crocodile rock, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But like you can do it in any dance. Why are we like I love contemporary, but why are we just doing contemporary?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think contemporary should be a category in dancing with the stars. Is it a beautiful dance? 100%. Has it brought tears to my eyes? 100%. I don't believe it needs to be on the show that is about ballroom dancing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But what the heck do I know? I'm just a viewer. So but anyways, everybody, it looks like next week's gonna be very intense. Once again, we have our six, five? How many people are remaining? Six. Six, thank you. Yeah, six remaining dancers, three guys, three girls. So it's gonna be a fight to the finish for sure. How do we feel? You know, do we do we have any predictions? Do you have any hopes? What are you what are you thinking so far? Just based off of what we've seen. We're kind of at the halfway point. So what are your overall feelings?

SPEAKER_01

I think it's isn't only like six episodes.

SPEAKER_00

Is it only six episodes?

SPEAKER_01

I thought so.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I didn't, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

But um, so I I think it's gonna be Alan or Eric.

SPEAKER_00

That's who you think it is, or that's who you want?

SPEAKER_01

I that's who I think they're gonna pick, Alan or Eric.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I like Alan and Eric, so I would be totally fine with either of them. Um, but yeah, I I think both of them would be ready. I like AJ too. I think any three of the guys could step in and be a pro. And it would be, yeah, they would be f just fine.

SPEAKER_00

What about the ladies?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I think two of them could step in a pro and be just fine.

SPEAKER_00

As in, Nina, and Adele. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Like there's nothing, Selena is a beautiful dancer, but it's such about to be such a big part about being a pro is teaching the technique, teaching the steps, teaching the figures, teaching how to rise and fall. Do you step on the ball or do you step on the heel? Are you stepping in CMD, like uh line of dance? Are you stepping um what like what angle are you facing as you step? How do you lead? She's teaching someone how to lead. She's like that's a whole other issue is teaching someone how to lead because if you look like you're dragging them across the floor, you gonna get in trouble. So, like, that's it's a lot. And I know Nina has experience teaching because that's what she does for a living. She coaches people on how to dance. So we know as we can see, she gets a little comes on a little strong. Um, Adele dances and does this and teaches on the side, so it's like I like I said, I want Selena to go compete in ballroom for a season and then come back and kill the show.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, one can only tell. I mean, um, she shoot, she might win this, just given how much the judges love her, honestly.

SPEAKER_01

But she'd do great on Troop.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's true.

SPEAKER_01

She will just spend a season on Troop and learned it and did it, I think she'd be great.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I just looked it up, and it looks like there will be eight episodes of Dancing with the Stars and X Pro. So we literally are at the halfway point. I also did look up that after Daniela, we are getting your favorite dancer and it's about coaching.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, thank goodness.

SPEAKER_00

So that will be a great, great thing.

SPEAKER_01

Are they all gonna take turns coaching Robert?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I don't know. They might coach super fans, who knows?

SPEAKER_01

But flying out to Australia? That's why they're filming this.

SPEAKER_00

I have no idea.

SPEAKER_01

But why is coaching the last thing we do?

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's not the very last thing, but it's reaching towards the end. But because next week is five, the following week will be six. So we have three episodes left to maybe hopefully focus a little bit more on coaching and teaching, but I just hope they don't spend just one episode on coaching.

SPEAKER_01

So episode five is wow moments. So episode six is coaching. I'm wondering if like one of the weeks is gonna be everything together, and then the last week they have to create a freestyle.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Oh, freestyle. I didn't think about that. Yeah, that's important because the freestyle is.

SPEAKER_01

I wonder if Derek Hoff is gonna wrap it up as well. He started it and then he's gonna do the final episode as well. Because if Whitney is six, who's gonna be seven and eight? So unless they do Whitney for two weeks, which I thought that she was on two weeks of it. Um, I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_00

But it would make sense since she's Robert's partner. Robert did say he might get back out on the floor, so we'll see.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, he'll do it with her.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely see. That'd be funny if she if he was her opening number. I would love that. All right, everybody. Well, we're gonna go ahead and wrap it up there for today. Thanks so much for tuning in and listening to us rant once again. We hope you guys do enjoy it. We hope you guys also learn a few things. And if there's things that you disagree with or you want to discuss with us about, feel free to reach out to us. We want to have conversations and we want to chat with you guys. We want to hear all your thoughts about what you think of the show. But until then, tune in next week where we will discuss the wow moments with Daniela as the guest judge. But until then, everybody, we will see you on the dance floor.
