Time After Time For Parents
Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Four Two Dad Stage podcast. I am Daniel Aguilar, and here with me is my brother Jonathan Aguilar. John, how's it going?
Jon:It's been too long. It's been far too long. I know we missed last week, so, uh, I kind of threw me off, off a loop for this past week. I, I was missing this.
Daniel:How's that? Yeah, yeah. I was ready to go and. Oh, for me, I might know. Oh, excuse me. One second. Thought I had a sneak. Sorry. Um, probably will, probably, probably will. I hate when I hate it when that happens. It's just, uh, yeah, throws
Jon:me up. Well, that, that really ever happens to me, so I'm, I'm pretty like on that aspect.
Daniel:Um, uh, so how was your day, John?
Jon:Uh, today was pretty good. Um, we went to work. Okay, so let me ask you this question. Cause this happened to me, uh, this morning. Uh, get up getting the kids ready for, for school and everything. And, uh, I mean, so when you get the kids ready for school or, uh, Sherry, um, do you guys do it together or is it just one?
Daniel:Um, I like to think of it more as a team effort, but. with hands down, it's, uh, mostly Sherry and it's just because, uh, well she's doing the, uh, it's more like, she's more like center stage and I'm like behind the scenes working behind the scenes, if that makes any sense. So like, Danny wants Sherry to help her shower, Right. So like she's doing. I'm getting the clothes ready, um, helping, getting dressed. She's brushing Danny's hair. I'm making sure all like the loose ends are, are good to go. So when Danny's ready, we can just leave because she now, because we have to drive like 20 minutes to take her to school. Um, hopefully the house is almost ready and that 20 minute drive becomes. Two minute walk. So can't wait for that to happen to get that time back, but Right. But yeah, Sherry's like the, the main star and I'm more, I'm more like behind the stage. Exactly.
Jon:And so Cool. So, uh, here my wife, she, um, she has to head into work really early. So there's some days where I just have the kids by herself. The other day she gets to work from home, so she helps out. We obviously both do, you know, help the kids get ready and. Um, today was one of the days where I got the kids ready and everything was going pretty smoothly, but we ended up getting out late. And then, uh, on the way to school there was a, uh, trash truck that was slowing everything down. And so I got my son to school a little late. And I don't know for you, but for me, I feel like when that happens, I get so irritated because I feel like I didn't like achieve the goal. But I mean, I, today I literally just kind of had a. Take a deep breaths, like, who cares? It's one day. It's not like he's late all the time, so I had to just kinda like let that go. How did, has that ever happened to you when you're taking, like, you know, Danny and she's, she's late to school. I You only live two minutes down
Daniel:the No, so like, because again, we live like down the block. Um, and so far we've done a really good job. Seven 30. It's the, we try to be out of the house by seven 30 to get her to school. Um, yeah, it's just, we ha it's funny, so like she's getting to school early now that we have to do the drive, but last year, That two minute walk. She was getting to school like right on time. Uh, so they usually ring the bell, like at, I believe, I wanna say like 8 16, 8 17. And once that bell rings, they closed the doors. And a couple times last year more than a couple, she, uh, they're about to close and they see her like running in and running. They, they looking at, they. They would just leave the door open. Uh, or they wouldn't leave it, but they hold the door open. And, uh, so she was technically not late, but yeah, Chinese go. It could, it could, uh, it could be a battle sometimes, but that's what our topic gets today, everyone. It's time management. And so, um, hope, hope you like. Hope you like that. Thanks for asking me about my day, John. Appreciate that. Well, I wasn't even, I wasn't even done talking about Oh, you're not. Okay. All right.
Jon:Well, so, so that's how the day started. Uh, the rest of the day was pretty good. How about yours?
Daniel:Well, today was parent teacher conference. And so what I did was, um, I took today off, I just took, yeah, I took today off. And the thing, good thing about this job, it has. It's so easy to accumulate, um, pto. So I was able to use, um, some pto I, I racked up and it was pretty crazy. Did you see that high speed chase on the 91
Jon:today? I did so on my way to school, I heard on the radio, and then when I got to my in-laws, uh, they had it on tv and they, uh, yeah, they drove actually one of the spots he drove, it drives through. Um, I take the five just on and off Carita to Valley View. But, uh, that was pretty crazy. So you saw
Daniel:the highlights of it, or did you see
Jon:I like part of it, like as
Daniel:it was going, Did you see where the tire blew up? That I did not see. That's when I, so like around like little after Knoxberry farm heading towards the seven 10, his uh, passenger front tire popped and he is, was driving on the rim. Sorry, not a car guy. Everybody. So bear with me. And so, so sparks just coming and. that's happened to me once and I remember losing control of the car and, and was able to pull off to the side safely. But this guy was able to control the car all the way past like the seven 10, and he was going like at a high rate too, so, which was pretty impressive. Um, luckily nobody was hurt. Well, actually he did slam into a big grid, but I don't think the big R, there's no way the driver felt, it felt that impact and, um, Yeah, they were sure running on the freeway was crazy, but like, again, luckily no one was hurt and they got the guys, so, but um, yeah. Yeah, today was, it was a good day. It was like nice relaxing day. So, so it was always nice to have those Tuesdays. And considering Tuesdays my, my longest day of the, the week, so it was nice to kind of skip that. pick the right day. All right. So before, uh, I'm sorry. Before we get into it, um, John, do you wanna. H announce Arch Express Show announcement. Yes.
Jon:Yes. So as you guys remember, uh, a couple weeks back, we had a contest of giving away a free shirt. Um, we do have someone that meant the criteria. We raffled the name and, um, the big winner is, uh, Felix Esqu, Esquire. Yeah. So Felix Congrat. You are gonna be the proud owner and, uh, the first person to own, uh, for two dad's sake T-shirt,
Daniel:which is, I don't even have one yet.
Jon:That is accurate. Um, but uh, for everyone else we probably, I mean, Dan and I, we've been kind of discussing it. We're thinking about getting some made up. Um, so we'll keep you guys updated on that. If you guys are interested in, you know,
Daniel:rocking the podcast. All right, so we'll, uh, congratulations Felix. And we'll go into what's trending. So we're gonna change it up a little bit. Um, I know you're used to hearing what's hot, what's not, but we're just gonna basically go through, it's trending and. Give our thoughts and opinions about it. So we'll see. See how it goes. Um, alright, so Johnny, you wanna go first?
Jon:Sure, sure. So over in Massachusetts they have, um, I guess they have this, uh, giant pumpkin way off at a, at a state fair, which is pretty cool. And, um, let me ask you, Daniel, for a giant pumpkin, what do you think the record is as far as the weight of the.
Daniel:Let's see. I don't know, like 50 pounds. 50
Jon:pounds? That's amateur. Okay. You're, you got, this is the pro level. You gotta think big. So last year the winner setting the record was 2,294 pounds.
Daniel:Wow. That is a very, very big pumpkin
Jon:So this year, Everyone knew they had to step their game up. And, uh, we had one, you know, winner setting a new record, 2,480 pounds, almost 2,500 pounds. Um, he took home, I think like 8,500 for winning the contest. Um, Nice. Which I think, yeah, that was pretty cool. That was pretty interesting. I didn't even know pumpkins could get that big. And I just, I had so many questions on like, what do you do to get a pumpkin to grow that big, you know, well,
Daniel:Aside from, uh, not being a a car guy, um, I'm also not a pumpkin guy. Or not a pumpkin guy. I'm also not a garden kind of guy. So, um, farmer, I think that where you're looking for farmer, I think it's garden, isn't it? Gardener. A gardener, what's the biggest pumpkin you ever saw? Uh,
Jon:in person? I mean, probably one that. That's like the size of like my chest. So like I could barely put my arms around it. And that's nowhere near too though. I mean, I saw the picture of the almost 2,500 pound pumpkin and it, the, A guy, a grown man was kneeling next to it and it was taller than him and it was just, it was huge.
Daniel:Um, I think the biggest one I've seen was, uh, Disneyland Main Street. Okay. I think that's the one. You know what's crazy about that? No, um, But you know, what's interesting about that is I, I forgot what year it was, but I did have to work at Disneyland on Halloween night, and that's, if you don't know, it's October 31st, so, Yeah, so went to work at night, but then I had to come in around the afternoon for the, the day shift on November 1st, and by the time I left, the pumpkin was there. When in when I got back the next day, the pumpkin was gone. but their Christian street was up Disney Magic. Yeah. I, yeah, I was shocked. I was just like, Oh my God. And there was like a lot of like, decorations already like set up and I'm like, What, what happened here last night? This is, this is really crazy.
Jon:The crazy part about that is I wonder how many workers were working to make that happen. Right. Um, for anyone that's never been to Disneyland, they have some of the best decorations and you know, scenery out there and they have tremendous teams that just make it happen. Uh, when I worked there, I remember not nothing that dramatic as Daniel experience, but just seeing how they would put like the Christmas decorations upward, it's just, it's a phenomenal job. It's crazy.
Daniel:Let's see. Um, my first, one of my first topic for West Trending, um, De pmo de PMOs, Uh, coming out with the new album and going on tour, I, I'm, I like a lot of eighties music. So this was, uh, I was excited to hear this. And so what's your favorite, uh, Depressional song?
Jon:To be completely honest with. I know I like their music. Mm-hmm. but I couldn't name a name of a song from them.
Daniel:I'm sure on the radio I,
Jon:I'll, I'll probably recognize person along with it. But as far as the name of their songs I'm not too familiar with,
Daniel:I'll share it with, I'll share one with you, um, later, but, Enjoy the silence. I think that's like my favorite. It's probably the most popular hit to be honest, but, Okay. Um, so yeah. So that's, that's what's, uh, trending. Gar, I think that's what I thought was exciting to talk about.
Jon:I did see something in the headlines with them. I didn't read the article, but you just, I'm sure that's what it was. What, uh,
Daniel:best concierge meant to you?
Jon:Mm. So that would be, I would have to say, uh oh, that's a hard one. Um, I would have to say, uh, it was bass at bash at the beach in 2018. I think
Daniel:that was like thought you come back arresting event I w CW W
Jon:that was a maybe. I'm pretty sure it's called Fashion Beach, but it could be something else, but, um, Beach Fest maybe. But, um, I got to see the bouncing souls, uh, which was awesome band. Uh, I got to see, uh, the head, one of the headliners was plaquing to, um, which that was awesome to see. And just to see it on the beach was a, was a really cool experience. That I would probably have to say was probably one of the, one of the best ones I went to, but I definitely asked some other good ones. What about you?
Daniel:Well, I've only been to two concerts. Uh, one was Osma, remember that? Remember them? Yeah. Yeah. I was at a little club in, uh, Orange County, went with uh, Moses, and then. Um, the next one I'm not too proud of, but I did go and enjoy it. It was, uh, the cast of Glee. Um, let's see. Yeah. Yeah, so that was back when Glee first started out, or I think it was like, wow, I want to say 2009, 2010. So it was a long, long time ago, but I definitely, there are so many bands I really want to go see. Um, what, what are some of the bands that you wanna see? Okay, so one I've always liked is, um, Imagine Dragons. Okay? And it so happens this week, Danny. That's all she wants to hear. Imagine Dragons. Seriously. So that would be kind of cool if it was at the right venue, right? To take her to go, go with her and experience that with her. Um, lets see, what else? Nothing I can think of at the top of my head. You know, we've, Sherry and I have gone to a couple, like, um, like concerts in the parks or mm-hmm. we did score tickets to like a, it was like a queen trip band, and that was, that was fun. So, but uh, I never really bring to like a big concert with like at a, like the crypto center and see if someone, Big perform. So, you know, and you have to be honest too, like some of these tickets are just really, really overpriced and ridiculous. Yeah.
Jon:I, uh, for secondly, I said Crystal Center, I think about, oh, where's that at? But obviously here in Staple Center,
Daniel:you know, really. So
Jon:one of the concerts that I had a good time at, um, actually won tickets off A Star. The radio show or the radio station. You guys remember that? Um, to go see Weezer at the forum and oh, surprise guess was, uh, Angels and Airwaves, which, um, I didn't know they were gonna through performing, but they put on a good set. Uh, but Weezer was awesome. Weezer had a good shot, a good show. Uh, what's that? Is that Americans Stadium or Amer American Stadium. That's by usc, The soccer field. Oh,
Daniel:uh, yeah, I don't know. There
Jon:I went and saw, um, Rise Against the Distillers and, um, the original Band of the Misfits, which was a crazy awesome show. Um, yeah, I would've put that one prior at the top of list, but, uh, my wife and I, when I saw that she was pregnant, so I was really drinking too much, so it was kind of A dry concert for us. But it was a, that was an awesome show that, that was crazy. And then, um, at the rou door, I saw take him back Sunday and they played their album. Tell All Your Friends, which was
Daniel:awesome. That, that, Yeah. So I wanted to go see Elton John a couple years ago. This is like the year, uh, that movie came out about his, his. Okay. And, and before the movie came out, I saw he was playing at, uh, is this still the pond Overhead Pond? Overhead pond? No. Yeah. Is this still the Honda Center? Thank you. And. Tickets weren't that expensive. And I was trying to, Sharon, I'm like, Let's, I, let me, can I please buy these tickets? Like, I really like to go see him. And she's like, and she's like, No, it's a waste of money. And we saw the movie and. We literally was walking back to our car after the movie and she's like, You know what, that would be fun to go see him. And I went up, I went on to see how much tickets were and they skyrocketed. And ever since then it's, yeah, it's way too much. So, uh, but it would be kind of cool to see Al to John, even though like, he's not as young as he used to be. But, you know, he still, I love all his, his, his songs and so,
Jon:It was funny that you mentioned that cuz uh, my wife, she's a huge Alton John fan and I think I was looking up concert for him and I wanna say he's playing at Dr. Stadium coming up.
Daniel:Yeah. Again, this is that. And I know This's the thing with the, the older act, they say it's her last concert and tickets are kind the rough. Um, do you have anybody else, are any other topics,
Jon:um, As far as other topics, uh, so I'm not sure if it's still going on, but, um, on the coastline of California by like Laguna Beach and um, out that way, there are bioluminescent, uh, in the water. So, um, there's like these microorganisms that I guess with the chemical reaction when the wave are crashing, right, it's causing the water to look like there's blue lights. So, uh, that's really cool. That's when I wish, or that I want to check out. It doesn't happen year round. It's just, uh, spora throughout the year it occurs. But, um, yeah, I thought that was, that was pretty cool. Uh, Whole topic to imagine just being at the beach at night, just seeing some blue lights as a way
Daniel:fresh. Love the beach at night. Love it. So relaxing. Um, especially if you get like a little fire going and you know, something more, Nothing more peaceful than just being at the beach at night with a group of friends just chilling out. Oh yeah,
Jon:Beach. The beach is definitely one of my favorite.
Daniel:And then, let's see, my next one is the Hollywood sign is getting a makeover. Um, is it really, Let me ask you a question. We turn the, turn the tables on, you send it. How many gallons of, uh, primer and paint you think it takes to redo the Hollywood sign?
Jon:I'm gonna go with 120.
Daniel:250 gallons, ah, Um, but yeah, so we'd be able to see a little bit more visibly. Um, you know, when you're driving past it, do you ever recognize it?
Jon:Um, No. Yeah, I, I always like to look for when I'm out that way, just so I don't know why it's something kind of actually done when I think about it. But for some reason, while I'm over there and I know it's visible, I try to see if I can find it.
Daniel:Have you ever, um, hyped to
Jon:this line? No. I was gonna ask you the same question. I have not have
Daniel:you? Yeah. So we parked at the observatory, I think it was about, It was a long time ago. Um, I want say like three, uh, no, I forgot how long it took us, but it was fun. It was fun. Little, little trip with myself, Sherry, and then Anthony and Christian, so, so
Jon:yeah. Honestly I didn't want to go to though observatory to take the kids there. Um, I haven't been there in years, but I remember last time I went there, it was awesome. It was pretty
Daniel:fun. That'd be fine. Um, alright. Do you have another,
Jon:I'm
Daniel:all top count. That's all I got. All right. Congratulations, Aaron Judge for hitting a 62nd home run. Uh, by hitting tonight's home run. He breaks Roger Mes American League Home Run, Home Run record. Um, do you remember at 98 when McGuire and Soha were going at it? Oh yeah. That was a fun time to watch baseball. Uh, you know, I never thought I'd be that dad who. We'd be like, Oh, well back in my day. But I gotta say 98, that was probably the most exciting year for me as a baseball fan. And that was, that was, that was one of the highlights. Yeah. Um, and I'm not a baseball guy, but.
Jon:not too big, but to be honest, even when that was happening, I could even appreciate like the race between them. Like I, I don't follow baseball closely at all, but I remember I would hear the updates and it, it, it was, that was interesting.
Daniel:And then I have another one. As you know, the World Cup's about to start in Qatar. Um, this is, this has been a very controversial topic for a while. Qatar, I don't know if you know this, they were using. a lot of immigrants to build up facilities and new, new stadiums. Um, paying very, very low wages if, if not at all. Uh, couple, There's been reports of a couple of workers dying due to this and, um, there's a little bit of a boycott and I just found out. that Paris won't be, they're not gonna be broadcasting any World Cup games on big TVs. So if you wanted to go to like a bar to watch your favorite team, um, play in the World Cup, that's not gonna be possible if you live in Paris. Um, so they're gonna have to watch from home. They're gonna have to watch from home or stream it on their, their device. Yeah, but from what I, I actually dug a little more deeper, and that's part of the reason. Another part is, uh, there's a soccer channel called the, uh, wanna say the, I'm gonna screw it up, so I apologize. The. Being network, B e i n n G. But it's not pronounced being like the way we say it. Uh, they're asking for a lot of money for bars and hotels to, uh, broadcast the events. And I also found out if you booked a, a trip to Qatar to see your favorite team or your country play. you're not gonna be able to watch it at any of their bars or big screen TV because they're being charged a lot of money to broadcast. So you're gonna have to probably find a way to stream it on your, on your iPad or your phone. So yeah, it's kind of crazy, but Wow. Um, I'm actually kind of surprised they're having the World Cup, uh, this late. He usually is. It's a summer event. But this is gonna be, I think, I wanna say like November, they're gonna be playing. So, um, I don't know how that's gonna, you're dealing with playoffs, baseball and football, so I don't know how it's gonna, They're all, I'm very curious to see how the ratings are here in, uh, the United States because, I mean, most people will be watching NFLs on Sundays, and especially if you're playing on the baseball playoff.
Jon:Yeah. In October, November. Yeah, that's, I mean, soccer has always kind of gone to their, their own beats drum though. I mean, they've never really cared about other, other things going on. They just, they do them.
Daniel:Yeah. They've always had a lot of Right. Definitely a lot of controversy. So, so, yeah. All right. So you ready to move on to this date in history? Ooh, here we go. So I got a couple, um, back in 1969, Ma Python debut on the bbc. Have you ever, did you ever see that like show or movie? I
Jon:saw it one time and I don't really
Daniel:remember it. It's not that bad now. I've not, No, I'm not saying it's, I'm not, No, no. I've not. Like I've never been. Into it where I've seen all of them, but I have seen a couple and it was pretty funny. So, um, and then Sherry she would look at me funny because this is right before we actually had to move out of the house. Um, I was starting to watch, uh, Mr. Bean, which I. Was hilarious, which is kind of like a little similar humor. It's, you know, British humor and American humor are a little bit different and so, Right. Yeah. So I enjoyed it. So yeah, debuted 1969. Nice. Um, one year later in the United States, 1970, PBS began broadcasting on American television. Uh, they're known for, uh, Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and. Have you ever seen grading Rainbow? Oh, yeah. Oh yeah. So I think PBS is very underrated. Uh, there's, there's so many, so many good documentaries and like shows have come off of PBS that never got really talked about. So, um,
Jon:I'm a PBS fan. They do? Yeah. Yeah. And we, we, we, uh, subscribe to the, to the app for the pbs mm-hmm. And there's tons of shows that on there that the kids watch. I even checked out. But, um, even growing up, I remember, uh, Mr. Rogers was a huge one that I learned.
Daniel:Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Uh, Sesame Street for me that was, Yeah, yeah. Watch Sesame Street. It's, uh, it's, you know, it's funny right now cuz we're again at Sherry's mom's house where, um, they don't have, we don't have internet available so, Our kids were used to streaming everything, so they got to watch what they wanted to watch, when they wanted to watch it. And now when they wanna watch tv and we say, when we say it's okay, now they gotta sell to like, Oh, well this is on, This is my only option and, and I don't get any pushback. If I go Disney, I get pushback. They're like, Oh, I don't wanna watch this show. But then, Change it at PBS Junior and they're always like, Hmm, let's give this a minute. I wanna see where this goes. And they enjoy it. So, um, so yeah. So they watch, uh, Walras. I have no idea what that is. It's a show on pbs. Pbs.
Jon:Okay. It's these two brothers. Yeah, it's like mostly animated, but uh, they also show it's about animals and stuff. Learning about, Yeah. Different animals. But, um, at the end of the show, it shows the two actual real life brothers and showing the animal that, you know, the episode is about, right? Yeah. Actually look into that one. That, that was actually really the boys love that one. Um,
Daniel:okay, so in 1975, uh, Famous actress was born Kate Winslet. You know why I
Jon:bring her up? Why is that?
Daniel:You know where she's from? She's in like a lot of lot of movies, but there's one where, or the movie I was a little upset with, I might have been a little obsessed with back in like my high school days.
Jon:Uh, the grand. Um, Titanic.
Daniel:Yeah. Okay. She played Rose on Titanic and so, yeah, so she's a really good actor. She's been like a, uh, the, what was it? Internal Sunshine of the Spotlight Spine. Do you remember that movie with Jim Carey? A great movie. I recommend it. Do your, uh, check it out. It's one of those movies though, where you have to pay attention. If you go on your phone, you're gonna miss something and you're gonna be like, Wait a minute, what just happened? And you're gonna be lost. So, Okay. Yeah. So you have to pay attention and try to connect the dots. So, yeah. So happy birthday, Kate.
Jon:Also, anyone in the Southern California, they're gonna be, they're doing. The Titanic experience coming up. Have you done that?
Daniel:No, but I did see this on, uh, Instagram. I've been, uh, I think that's
Jon:where I saw too, but, uh, we did that a couple years back, uh, when it was in Buena Park and um, it's actually really cool. It's, uh, they, they gave you a card before you go in as a passenger on there. It tells you a little bit about them. It has the hallways done, like how the ship was. It has some, uh, really cool, really cool exhibits in there. Yeah,
Daniel:that'd be very cool to see. So hopefully get a chance to make it down there. And then, let's see, back in 1998, uh, This is when the house of reps recommended to impeach one Mr. Bill Clinton. Did you ever, uh, you're probably little young for this, right? The Monica Lisky. Bill Clinton. Monica, I remember that. You remember that? Okay. So I was staying dress? Yes. How old were you when that happened? 10 98? Yeah. No, this was, Oh, yeah, 98. Well, everything happened around 98, 87. So you were, you had to be like nine, 10. Okay. 10. All right. Uh, and then in 2001, Barry Bronze Breaks Mark McGuire's single season home run record. And so yeah, this was interesting because. Barry VA was never, uh, I mean, he's always been linked to steroids, but never tested positive, never been caught. There's, they never found any trace to get him on. And so, but if you look at his rookie year to his, the last year you played, it was, it was obvious Um, but you know, he, you know,
Jon:imagine
Daniel:like, Just because you can't, it just because, you know, if you take steroids doesn't mean you can, uh, hit a curve ball. You know what I mean? That's true. Slide. So like, you know, the fact that he did it, not saying I condone steroid use, but I mean, you gotta get the man, his, his, his credit. Don't you like Mark McGuire was linked. There was evidence. So him, Sam Soso, they soso. Yeah. They were caught. They were caught and they admitted to using steroid. But he's, he's never been, never been tested positive and so never been caught. Never been caught. And then, so, yeah, And back in 2011, the World loss one, Mr. Steve Jobs died at the age of 56, and so he was that young. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, and so, well, those are all the things that happened on this date. Some
Jon:big, some big events.
Daniel:All right. So are you ready to get into, uh, our next topic
Jon:that I am? Okay, let's
Daniel:dive in. All right, so tonight we're talking about time management. And this can be, could be a very tricky topic because. It's hard. I mean, there's only so many hours in the day. Right. And yeah, you know, we have, there's so much to do, right? We have to just by ourselves, we have to get dressed, eat breakfast, go to work, come home. I mean, it's just like a long list of things to do. And then when you add kid into the mix, it's just like you were talking about earlier. Um, It throws, just throws it out. The, And I can only imagine it's going to get a little more tougher when Alex starts going to school. Um, you know what I mean? So, um, how, how, how do you think you manage your time on a day to day basis? Monday through Friday? Cause I know it's a little different on the weekends, say Monday through Friday, Right?
Jon:So Monday through Friday. I mean, to be honest with you, if there, if we didn't have a routine, it would just be chaos, right? So routine is like a must. Um, I normally get up about, you know, six ish, uh, get the kids up, um, get them downstairs, get their breakfast going, uh, and then it, it's a huge, a huge determination of how the day's gonna go is if my youngest, who's seven months. If he wakes up with the other two other ones, if he wakes up with the two other ones, it's gonna be a rough morning because he may not just want to hang out on the floor or with the toys, I may have to, you know, hold him a little more. So it's just, it's trying to balance all that. And then as soon as breakfast is done, you know, wash your hands, brush your teeth, um, change. And then by that time, I hopefully got, you know, the lunches together and we're heading out the door. By, you know, the latest is seven 30, but, um, it's just, it's, yeah, it's, it's, you just have to take it day by day because some days you get where the kids aren't cooperating. All of a sudden what took five minutes is now taking 15 minutes. I mean, does that ever occurred with you guys, like maybe with Danny's shower or something where her showers normally like five minutes, but boom, it's longer.
Daniel:So last year was kindergarten and there was a lot of screaming matches with, with Danny and Right. So girls are different than boys. So, you know, with her it's kind of like the same thing. It's get up, uh, get her shower, get her dressed usually. Last year, that was my job. And while I was doing that, Sherry was getting breakfast and lunch ready and then after she ate, it was hair and girls. There's a reason why Danny Classmates who were girls who are girls, I have short hair because girls with long hair, it can be a battle in the morning because you know, knots get in there and now it's, you know, they don't like to have their. Their hair brush because of the knots. And cuz that could be painful. And, and you know, they're, they wanna move and they want to get going, but you need them to stay still. So that's a battle within, within itself. So, um, right now it's kind of like we're not at home, we're with Sherry's mom. Hopefully, maybe just for another, Two weeks and then we get to come back and that'll be kind of curious to see how, how that goes. Um, but right now it's Sherry. Gets Danny cleaned up. I put together the little things, like I said, and having Sherry's mom's a big help because she's working on food and Danny's hot chocolate. That's Danny's breakfast right now it's hot chocolate. So, um, yeah, so, uh, so yeah, so right now we have a system. It's going very, very well. I think it's funny, it takes three adults for this one kid, but, you know, but the fact is she's never been late. So there you go. We're doing something right. Um, what's one strategy you think you and your family can't live out of when it comes to time management?
Jon:One strategy.
Daniel:Um, you call, call me. Pick one.
Jon:Only pick one. Um, I mean, honestly, it's, I'm gonna go back to what I already said. Just stick to the routine. Just have a routine, routine and just stick to it. I think that's, that's key. Um, yeah, I don't know what else could be
Daniel:more helpful than that. For me, it's the calendar. The calendar is like, so I know exactly when things are gonna happen. Sherry can tell me. She can text it to me. I'll forget. It's just how I'm wired.
Jon:But it's not just you, it's me too.
Daniel:But thanks for, but thankful for technology. Uh, she, Jerry will put something on the calendar and goes directly to my phone. So if I need a book, an appointment, I'll check the calendar, make sure I'm available. And you know, we'll go from there. So, the calendar works for best for me.
Jon:What happened? You, you know, I'm not the very big, uh, iPhone. I have my Samsung, I've always had my Samsung, but that is something that's maybe considered getting an iPhone, so that way Brian and I can set up the calendar. So when Oh, I love it. States and stuff. Yeah, it'll be right there on, on there. I know we can do one where it should be compatible for both of us, but we haven't really spent time looking into it, but I think that definitely wouldn't make a huge difference.
Daniel:No, for sure. Yeah. Like I said, Sherry will post something and then it's, It's a great way to communicate too, by the way. It, so like for instance, I'll get a notification. Sherry just added a shopping list. Um, to your, would you like to add anything? And I can go in and like, Oh yeah, we need more eggs, we need more butter. And add it to the list. She has it on her phone. So it's a really more convenient way to operate and get on the same page rather than, um, just taking a time and having a call or waiting to get home. Okay. And then you might forget, so. So, yeah, like I said, yeah, so, and that's important too, I think you would agree when it comes to time management for parents, communication and being on the same page with your partner. Very big deal. Yeah,
Jon:definitely. Definitely. Like example for, uh, today on the way home, um, my wife called me is like, Oh, hey, I forgot to ask you to get the Walmart order. We do the curbside. Mm-hmm. And um, I was literally just like passing about to pass Walmart. I was like, Oh, I. Swing in right now, get it. If she would've, you know, waited till I got home, then I, we would've to wait until the kids are in bed and then I would've to go get it and then come back home and that's a whole nother trip. So, Oh,
Daniel:I love curbside pickup. We started doing that right when the pandemic happened, and the beautiful thing about that was no one discovered it yet. So we would go to Target, pull up right there, be nobody in that area, but now, You set up a curbside and you go pick it up, you might have to wait a while to pull into one of the curb. Yeah, that's that very time. Yeah. So I missed those days of, not of the pandemic, but just having to go to, You wanna go back so you and so, um, So, yeah, so I mean, that's pretty much, I mean, that's what, that's the best way I can break it down is just mean communicate with your partner and again, stick to the, I mean, again, like I affect the, the calendar, uh, so that I know how to plan my day. Um, I honestly think it's important to, to set a set aside time for. You and your spouse a as well as just time for yourself. Um, cause I think it's important to have that little getaway and just clear your mind and not have to worry about, you know, Doing chores or whatever. Uh, for me that's Saturday, Sunday mornings when I'm playing tennis, that's like two hours blocked off where it's just me and I don't have to really worry about, um, you know, I don't have to worry about taking what the kids are having for breakfast. Cause I know Sherry got. uh, this past Sunday, Sherry needed a break. So she went to our God daughter, um, soccer game and left the kids with me. We watch the bills dominate again, but, but we, uh, yeah, just being the kids, interacting with the kids. I had big red zone on the background and then after the game was over, Sherry came over. We had like a nice little lunch, little family time. You know, she needed, she got the time she needed to recharge her batteries. So I think it's very important to, for her spouses to spend time together, like a little date night, little time to themselves, but at the same time, take time for themselves. You know, just a little treat. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And again, does not be anything big like, You know, Sherry's treat for herself is to like go to Starbucks and sit down and just, you know, not have to worry about anything for an hour and she can just like zone out and then just come back and, you know, she's good to go. And so she do that every day? No, but once a week. Yeah, sure. Why not?
Jon:I remember, uh, a couple years ago, a few years ago, actually now, uh, my wife and I, we did kind of like a little getaway, but not far. So, um, we went to Long Beach for the weekend. Mm-hmm. and that's obviously just like from anyone that's not familiar with the area over here, that's just about like 15, 20 minutes away. Um, but we just wanted to get a weekend just to kind of get away. Just her and I, we. So that hotel, uh, ironically, um, the kids with, uh, my in-laws went to the same beach that we went to on Saturday. So we had to see the kids for a little bit and spend time with them. And then we went back to, you know, our time and, um, we, we had a great time actually. We went, took, uh, the ghost tour of the Queen Mary. Mm-hmm. which was awesome. Um, and we, we had a lot of fun. We got to see some. But, uh, that's something on the big end as far as like going like a weekend. But, um, like Daniel said, just doing a date night, just getting away for a few hours, it's, uh, definitely healthy for you guys and, you know, healthy for the kids and
Daniel:Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. All right. Anything else you wanna add before we move on to Dad draft?
Jon:Um, I would say just, uh, I'd like help, like just kind of how you mentioned, um, if you see your spouse needing that time, you know, don't be afraid to suggest it and just kind of be like, Hey, you know what should go like down, say go get coffee or go, um, visit a friend or something and you know, I got this. Let them have that time that. definitely a
Daniel:positive thing. Absolutely. Absolutely. All right, so that's gonna wrap it off. If you, if we missed anything, please don't hesitate to let us know. You can, um, message us on Instagram, uh, for two Dad six podcast. And I'm always, I'm the one who always responds to everybody. So, uh, you will, you will get a response back. So, and please let me know what's, what works best for you as far as time management. So with that said, let's go to dad draft.
Jon:Here we go.
Daniel:Here we go. Did you know what happened last Dad draft John? No. I was trying to
Jon:look up the results. I can. I, I was wondering if you hit them or what happened? Uh, of
Daniel:course. Yeah. Um, well, I have some news. for the first time and dad, job history.
Jon:Go on, say it.
Daniel:We have a tie. We we have, we have a tie. It was 50, 50%. Um, so yeah, the youngest, everyone So this is what we're gonna do. Okay. So since I picked the topic for tonight, okay, this is what I. Proposing you can get the first pick. I'll get the second pick, but tonight won't be snake draft. We'll just go back and forth. We'll alternate okay with that. All right, so the topic I chose tonight, I don't know if you, everyone saw my Instagram posts. Uh, I posted a picture of a blue pumpkin. And this is something that started out a couple years ago where a group on Facebook were trying to get something started, and basically if you see a kid with a blue. Pumpkin pale for, um, while they're trick or treating on Halloween night, chances are they might be on the spectrum. So just if you see one, just tread lightly, um, or if they knock on your door. and they don't say anything. They just look at you. Doesn't mean they're rude, they just don't know how to communicate and just be patient with them, you know, that's their holiday too. So, Um, so in honor of that post, we thought, or at least I thought it would be fun to do that draft regarding Halloween candy. And so I'm a big Halloween candy fan, and so this should be fun. Uh, so John first
Jon:pick, you're on the clock. All right. Well, I've been candy pretty much my whole life, so I'm pretty confident in this, uh, this topic. Mm-hmm. So to start off with the number one pick, I'm gonna go with one of my favorite Snickers. Okay.
Daniel:That was up there. That was up there.
Jon:Caramel, You get peanuts? Chocolate. It's a Winnie combo.
Daniel:Okay. So with mines, um, with my number one overall, so I'm kind of happy this worked out, although it's a very, you can't go wrong either or, Uh, for me, Reese is peanut butter cups. I mean, nothing's bad. I mean, that's like my all time favorite Halloween candy. So,
Jon:are you fan of the pumpkin ones or do you prefer the original cups?
Daniel:Uh, original, but you know, I'm not gonna just say no to a pumpkin one.
Jon:I know some people prefer the pumpkin one cause they have more peanut butter ratio. Just curious
Daniel:on that. All right.
Jon:All right. All right. So it's my turn, um, up. Um, one that I liked as a kid and I think I like even more so. Which I'm not even sure why, but Kit Kats always been a big Kit CATT person. Like Kit Cats can't go over with a kit cat just snap it off and or you just go eat it whole.
Daniel:Okay. All right. That was actually number two on my list, so. Oh, he's panic. Uh, no I'm not. Cause Yeah. Number two on, on number two that I'm gonna pick is Twix.
Jon:Twix.
Daniel:Yeah. Best thing about Twix too, like you don't, you get the little one, the Halloween, but if you ever go to the store, you basically get two candies for the price at one. So that's the way I look at it. So you're getting more big for your box. So yeah, and it could be, and then it can be a cookie as well. Cause so, Yeah. Yeah, yeah. All right.
Jon:Nice, Nice. Um, let's see. So the next one, I'm trying to think if I should say in the chocolate realm or branch out, but you know, I wanna say true to what I like. Um, for the people out there that really like caramel, like I do a hundred grand. That you get the, kinda like the Nesty crunch along with the crap load Carmel, which is, uh, something that I always enjoy.
Daniel:Yeah. Um, yeah, that's, it could be too sticky sometimes, like too much Carmel.
Jon:I, No, I completely get it. It's not for everyone, but I, I love it. And if you like Carmel, then that's Definit. Did you say caramel? Caramel, Caramel,
Daniel:caramel?
Jon:Yeah.
Daniel:I go back and forth. All right, so I'm going outside the chocolate. I'm gonna try to get the best, uh, sweet sour candy. And it's a personal favor for mine. It's uh, Starbust
Jon:star. Oh, that's a good one. Unless you get the yellow one. That's just.
Daniel:Star. Okay. Uh, two more.
Jon:Two more. All right. Let's go with, um, outside the, outside of the chocolate Airheads. Okay. So we get an airhead. That's always a one that you're pretty happy with getting that
chi
Daniel:going. Um hmm. Sorry.
Jon:You know, you get mad cause you're panicking.
Daniel:I'm gonna go with, with peanut m and ms. Ooh, that's a good one. That's a, The dagger right there. Yeah, that's a good one.
Jon:That's part of my favorite m and ms.
Daniel:didn't see that coming. Didn't see that coming.
Jon:Okay. He, he came to play. Yeah. All right. Going off of that, uh, another one that I'm pretty happy with when I get on with Skittles. Skittles takes the rainbow.
Daniel:Okay. Uh, um, let's see. Hmm. No. Trying. I go with chocolate. I'm gonna give it a very basic, very simple, and I'm gonna go with Nestle Crunch.
Jon:All right? I mean, not a bad, not a bad candy. I'm not disappointed when I eat it, but not sure if I would say that's one of the faves.
Daniel:So, All right. I think that was good things.
Jon:What, what's one candy when you did get, You were always like, like that was one of the ones you saved lastly, because you didn't want to eat it.
Daniel:Mm, I don't know. Cause I usually ate all my candy within the first like 24, 4, 8 hours. Um, which one were you doing? I would say like in any type of like lollipop. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And so I was just, It took too long to eat. Just took a little too long for, for, for me, myself. It
Jon:delayed the rest of the candy. It was just, yeah, it's too, too much time to sue me. I too happy with like a whoppers,
Daniel:uh, has a good crunch to it. Yeah, it's not, not
Jon:too bad. I don't know, just, ah, it was always kind of whatever for me.
Daniel:So. Alright, so that concludes our episode. Is there anything you need you wanted to add, John?
Jon:I do like to add, I know I gotta get my fun fact in.
Daniel:Okay, so, um, alright, so yeah, we'll get to the front fact right now. Again, follow us on Instagram for four, two dad's sakes and, um, from myself and John. Thanks for listening.
Jon:All right. Now fun fact is the day is only 23 hours and 56 minutes. How's that possible? Because the rotation from the earth around the sun is not a perfect circle. Ah, on Sundays, when the sun's further away from the earth, the rotation's slower, and then the earth's closer to the sun. The rotation's faster. So majority of the time, that's how long the day is. The average is 24 hours. That's how we get 24 hour days.
Daniel:Nice. Did not know that. Learned something every day. All right guys, that the battle from John and I, Thanks for listening and don't go changing, right? All right. And before, uh, we move on, I just wanna say, happy birthday to Sergio Hidalgo, bro, our brother-in-law, um, a great standup guy, could not have asked for, uh, a better guy to marry, um, our sister. Um,
Jon:that should have been one of your, on this day, 39 years ago.
Daniel:Could have been. Could have been, Yeah. But, uh, but I decided to, uh, This does I, This, this was so special. It needed its own special, uh, special show. Part of the show. The show. Yeah. So there it is, Sergio, you, we love you and we hope you had a great day. Did you call him?
Jon:Uh, I sent him a heartfelt text with a gift.
Daniel:Okay. So FaceTime to. I mean, Texas just does the same. Yeah, So it gets the message across Sirio. I apologize for John. All right. Hope you had a good day, Phil.
Jon:Love you, bro. Love you.
