Growing up in the 90s
Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Four Two Dad Stage podcast. I am Daniel Aguilar, and here with me is Jonathan Aguilar. John, what is up?
Jon:Not much. Not a whole lot. Um, let's see, as far as my day today, it was pretty solid. Maintenance sales. Um, kids are, two of them are sick. So dealing, dealing with that, uh, I feel like
Daniel:your family's always
sick. That's how I feel. And I think that's common when you have three little ones that are that different layer of ages. Cuz I mean, kids, just young kids. Just period, they get sick. So in one get sick, it transfers to the other. This goes through the house. Round. Round it goes. Yeah. Yep. How about you, Dan? How, how's everything going on?
Daniel:Pretty good. Uh, let's see, this weekend, when did we do this weekend? Saturday we came to the house and. Got to see the kitchen and bathroom, which was pretty awesome. We're very excited. But now they have to start on the outside, which is the, actually stay on top of the house. So they're gonna start on the roof and then worked their way to the patio. Then, let's see. Came to the house on Saturday. Danny had a church event, and so I stood back with Alex. I may have gotten to watch a little bit of college football. And then, in the evening, Sherry and I had a, um, fundraiser to go to. our good friends, their daughters are cheerleaders for high school, and so it was this thing called Case of Losal. Yeah, it's pretty cool. You buy a ticket. And all the restaurants from most a mitos have little boots. And so you go around and you just sample different foods. So it was, pretty cool. It was, We had a good time. I actually, they had a auction on and. Out of all the things we talked, they, they had to bid. We were talking sports equipment, sports memorably, barbecue stuff, alcohol, tons and tons of stuff. The one thing that I bid on in one was a beer set. Nice. Yeah. So I have a six pack of. Something called in my refrigerator. And I also have another, six pack of not Your Father's Roofer, which is, something I love, but that's your, Yeah, it's a pretty cool, but it came with a pretty cool, bar opener. It looks really nice., this guy makes all kinds of boars and furniture and so he did this for the,, for the event. And so it looks really cool. I can't wait to, to hang it up and, start using it. And then
also, is this something that goes up on the wall?
Daniel:Yeah, there's two of'em. There's one that you hang up on the wall. There's like a, one that's on its own, so we keep in the drawer, so nice. Then on Sunday, watch my bills, dominate the Steelers. Was it even close? So
yeah, that was actually pretty sad. Go, go bills.
Daniel:But I'm actually looking forward to this,, Sunday. Bills against Sheeps. So that's gonna be a, a fun game.
That should be a really
Daniel:good game. That should be a really good,
Yeah, fy My Cowboys handled, uh,
Daniel:the rounds, the Rams
in their home, which is pretty nice. Did,
Daniel:did they give you breaking rights, with your father-in-law? Uh, I
mean, he's just, Too nice of a guy to even try to do any break. Right. Leave a table would've won. So yeah, he was just kinda like, man, they got our number. So it,
Daniel:it was nice. That is true. He is a nice guy and can argue with that. Yeah. He's always made myself and my family feel welcome at his house, so I appreciate that.
Um, honestly, I just wanted to add in there one of the best, uh, bottle opens I ever received as a gift. Mm-hmm. was. a puck, an ice, a hockey puck. And on the flat side it has a bottle over, it has a magnet in there, which is awesome. So when you pop it off, it sticks to it. When you're talking about yours, it made me think of mine and you know, gotta bring that thing out. You still have it? Of course I do. I used it last week. Don't throw to
Daniel:like that out Well, I hope everyone feels better at your, uh, At your
house? Yeah, me too. I was so, like I said, the two youngest are sick right now. Um, the oldest crossing my fingers hasn't gotten sick, so we're trying to make sure he doesn't get sick and we can end with it, you know, with the other two.
Daniel:Well, it's coming probably, so get ready.
Yeah, we'll
Daniel:see. Do you guys have any plans coming up this weekend?
Uh, this weekend? This weekend? Uh, not that I know of, but to be honest with you, I'm not normally the one with the calendar plans. I normally catch up and just go, so I would've to, yeah, check with my wife to see what the plans are this weekend, but also plays a factor of the kids and how they're feeling and stuff. Right.
Daniel:What about you guys? Uh, let's see. I think we have to go to church on Sunday for, now that Danny has, in catechism, she, well actually not she, but we have a, a couple events we have to attend as a family. So, Sunday morning we'll be at church and as far as Saturday. I don't know, we'll probably, to be honest, we'll probably come back to the house and start to like, organize and move some stuff back in and, hopefully we ourselves can move back pretty soon. So. Nice. That'd be, that'd be fun. So just time for, Halloween and Thanksgiving. So do you guys have costumes, plan or the work? No. So I should know. The Princess name. Have you ever seen the Princess in the Frog?
No, actually I didn't think I seen it once, but
Daniel:I don't really remember it. It's a really good movie. But the Princess, that's who's Danny's gonna be, and then the frog is what's Al is gonna be so. I do remember to have good music
though. Yeah.
Daniel:How did you expert? I think they're gonna turn, if I'm not mistaken, I think they're gonna turn Splash Mountain into, Princess and the Fox thing. Oh really? Oh yeah. Oh, that's cool. Yeah, that was a big controversial topic. I would say the summer of 2020 and, but I don't know when it's gonna happen, but it's, it's probably gonna happen the next year or. Got.
And so, alright, so let's move on to,
Daniel:Oh, before we move into like what's trending., just want to say thank you to everybody. I noticed. Today that we have over a hundred followers on our Instagram page. So thank you guys. So thank you. We really appreciate, Again, our door is always open, so if there's anything that you would like us to cover or you think we can approve on, please just drop, drop off some message and we'll respond back to you, as soon as possible.
So might be careful what you wish for
Daniel:So,
But yeah, we'd love to hear feedback from you guys, so don't be shy. Let us know. I, I know we've gotten some feedback on comments, so people enjoying it, so we, and that means the world to us. So again, thank you to
Daniel:everyone. Yes, absolutely. 100%. John, do you know our Instagram handle?
Instagram for two dad's?
Daniel:Yeah, you can follow us there. Oh, and you can also follow us on Twitter at four twos podcasts. So, what's trending? So I'll pick the first lead on this, John. Go for it. Uh, so let's watching some football this weekend and. roughing the passer. What is up with that this week? I don't know if you saw the hit on Tom Brady, Guy tackled Brady. His momentum carried him forward. They called roughing the passer and which allowed the buck in years to win the football game. And then last night. Uh, CER Jones s David car, and while they're going down, he gets, he strips them of the ball the night of the, uh, ska. He forces the fumble and recovers it all in one play and he gets called for rough in the passer. It's just, um, it's an interesting league nowadays is.
The D uh, they have a car. I didn't see that one, that one I just heard about. But the Tom Brady one I did see and I got to see the highlights of it. The only thing I could think of is maybe the reference, cuz you know how you're not supposed to like throw the quarterback to the ground if like you have them wrapped up or whatnot. It kind of looked like he kind of did that. But like you said, it was more momentum of just going through it. So, I mean, the rest on that one, I wanna say they're. They saw what looked like he threw him. So maybe that's what the flight was for. But, uh, no. But as they showed on the replay over and over, I was like, Yeah, that's not a, that's not a flag.
Daniel:Um, as a Josh Allen fan, I hope he gets the same treatment as, uh, Brady and Carr. Um, Yeah. Looking forward to, I said, uh, this week's game and then, uh, the week after, no, two weeks after Bills and Packers and I will be calling our sister to talk crap, um, leading up to the game. That would, that would be fun. But, uh, yeah, it's just, you know, it's so, and they make it so hard for these, uh, defensive players to play defense. You can't touch the receiver while. The ball's up in the air. You can't hit nobody in the middle, over the middle. It's just, it is what it is, I guess.
Yeah. And I heard, I heard, I forgot where I heard it from on what A station, but they were saying that nowadays when a receiver gets hit going for the pass, if they stay down, they look like they're hurt. There's most likely play gonna be thrown, whether it was a clean hit or not. And it's just your rights, just like how are, how are you supposed to tackle, How are you supposed to, like, players are just gonna get. Running and, you know, trying to catch a ball while someone's trying to tackle him. It's just, it's about happen sooner or later.
Daniel:Yeah. All right. What's your topic?
All right, so, uh, for my topic, this is actually something that is near and dear to my heart. Um, Liquid eight two is reunited and Tom along has, you know, joined back with Mark and Travis. They're gonna do a world tour. They're also dropping a new album. and, uh, a new song's actually supposed to be coming out soon and it's totally a blink putting two song. Uh, if you haven't seen the promo for it, definitely check it out. It's pretty funny. But, um, yeah, I think in California, I think in, uh, here it's there, It's like June and sometime in June in 2023 or next year. So, um, I definitely would love to see this, this show. So I'm gonna try to keep an eye out for the tickets. I know they're gonna be crazy, Crazy. Hardy get, So that's something I'm looking forward to and now excited about. Uh, this is a pretty, Well, they won't be
Daniel:kinda grown out. They won't be Hardy Gap, but you will have to pay products and serious money.
Oh no, you're definitely not to pay serious money, But I'm sure once they go on sale that they're gonna go pretty quick. I don't think they're gonna be lingering around.
Daniel:Yeah, if you go back to. The late nineties. I just, I don't know if you had a bigger, I don't know if you call it punk rock band than Blink 22. They were like, they were like the biggest band, you know, I want to say like 90, 98, you know, they every, they had so many top songs and like I said, everyone I remember in high school, I don't care if you were Jock, nerd, whatever. You were a Blink 180 2 fan. Like they, you had their cd bottom line. Yeah. Yeah. Um, alright. Favorite Blink 180 Tucson? Uh,
no. That's just, you can't do that. It just depends. The mood. It just, there's no favorite. It's too many to choose from. You pick one. If I had to pick. I'll tell you what, if I had to pick an album, I would
Daniel:pick no one song. Yeah,
there is
Daniel:no one song. You'd pick one song.
If I had to choose one, I would probably go with Carousel. Okay.
Daniel:Yeah. I'm gonna go with all the small things I know it's. I know it's like commercial quote unquote, but it's just, Yeah, it's like got you. Song. If I'm gonna go with one song, one song gonna go with Yeah, but I'm trying to look, Or I'm sorry, not amo things. What's my age again? Sorry. Uh, it's
tomato. It's motto. Okay. So I'll give you another one. Another one.
Daniel:I'll give you another one. Funniest Blink 180 2 video. I mean,
it probably has to be, what's my age again? Where they're running around the cell naked. Yeah, that was
Daniel:one. But I'm gonna go with first date.
First
Daniel:date. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was pretty funny. That was a pretty boomer. That was a good one. That's good. Right. I think our sisters solved them in Vegas. A couple years ago.
I think you're right. I wanna say you're right. I saw them a couple years ago at, by
Daniel:the way, Toms along in there. By the way, Melissa and Sergio, thank you for the invitation. Appreciate that. All right. But yeah, no, that's fun. Yeah, I saw the new, I saw the headline today and I was like, Wow. I wish,, that'd be all pretty awesome to go see, but we'll wait and see. Hopefully, tickets aren't too crazy. Okay, so my next topic is have, do you ever watch an FEX show inventing, Anna? No,
but I think my wife has.
Daniel:Okay. Watch it. It's pretty good. It's pretty good for those. So it was this, person named Anna Kin. Okay. And basically she was a Instagram. I don't know. Not a motto, but basically influencer, I think they call it influencer. Yeah. Yeah. So like she posted pictures of the best hotels and cars and hung out with the 1% of people who are wealthy. And, and what I think was, even though she was telling everyone she was, rich and she came from. The truth is she didn't, and you know, so she ran up, a lot of hotel bills she stole from one woman ran up her, uh, personal spending account at a couple stores. And so it's just a really interesting, story. She was basically on help syringe. She's, Felony Society, convicted swindler. Anna Corkin, who scheme and inspired a Netflix series has been released from US immigration custody to house arrests. Immigration officials are with her, and I think right now they're just trying to see if she's gonna go back. I believe she's from Germany, so if she's either gonna stay here in the States or go back into Germany, But, Okay. It's a very, it's, if you're looking for a, if you're looking for a good series on Netflix, I recommend it. It's a real fascinating story that kind
of writes you a, an episode that I, or it was an episode of, um, I think it's on Disney Plus called One Shot or something. It's about a. That, um, try to buy a franchise. I think it's an Islanders when I'm mistaken.
Daniel:Yes. Yeah,
I saw, yeah. Did you watch
Daniel:that one? Yes, I did. It was very, uh, it was very interesting. But basically this guy almost got away with buying a hockey team without without any money, which is crazy. It was crazy. So like he told D nhl. This is who I am, this is how much money I have. And they said, Okay, yeah, you can buy the, he can buy the, this franchise. But then when it came time to, to put the first down payment, he wasn't sending it. And after, after a couple times where he said he was gonna send the money, that's when they did their homework and they're. Oh, wait a minute. This guy really doesn't have any money. So nonetheless, a buyer NHL franchise. So,, yeah, that was, that was a great documentary. That's, that's what, yeah, but the only difference is, I mean, this was like, you know, she wanted to be famous. I think she just wanted to be famous. That's all. And. So it's just interesting how, like, how easy we can lose, what's in front of us. Just to, you know, just to get what we want in life. You know what I mean? Like right. Just of. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. You know, instead of looking at like, Hey, look, this is, this is all the things that are right in my life, let's focus on that. All right. Do you have another one? I
do have one more. Yeah. So, um, Anyone that was a kid while growing up, you know, around our era, they're gonna be pretty excited for this. Um, McDonald's is bringing back the Halloween buckets. Yeah, which is pretty awesome. Um, if you guys don't remember'em, there's a witch that's a green bucket, a pumpkin that's an orange bucket, A white ghost, uh, bucket. And um, October 18th is the day I believe they're coming out. They were for the Happy Meals. Um, do you remember getting them as a kid?
Daniel:I don't remember getting them as a kid, but I remember them being advertised as a kid. Yeah. Yeah.
I remember we got them a couple times and at the time I thought there was cool cause it was just something different. But, um, just to see them bring it back. I think they said it was the first time they were bringing it back in like six years. Okay. So McDonald's Happy Meals are gonna be going through the, through the. In about a week or so,
Daniel:pretty much, yeah. I think the parents are more excited than the kids. Oh,
definitely. Definitely. I mean, I'm pretty sure some parents are gonna buy'em, not even to use them. Just to collect them. Yeah, collect them,
Daniel:Yeah. And then probably try to sell'em on online
and Yeah, you're right.
Daniel:my next topic is, Disney raises their prices again, so I heard about that. Yeah, so if you're planning on going to Disney at any time soon, depending on what day you you're going and what plan you pick, but it's probably gonna be anywhere from$104 to a$79 per ticket. So, That's
for one part, it's
Daniel:two. I believe that's just for one part. I don't know, maybe two. But um, yeah, I mean, it sounds, I mean, at this point, this is like the third time since it's reopened and the pandemic, they raised their prices and you figure they don't need to, but it just sounds to me like they're trying to play catch up, you know, for being closed, for being shut down for a year. They're just, you know, everyone knows they were closed. Yeah. So it's,
so now you get it when, uh, you worked there, I remember if you had a late shift when you were closing, um, Mel and I would ride with mom and we would go meet you where the ticket booths were. And I remember looking at the prices and thinking, oh, uh, one of the, um, season passe. was$365. I was drawing thinking like if I save a dollar a day, I could get a season pass to Disneyland. It was probably just like the SoCal one, one of the cheapest
Daniel:ones. I think that was the most expensive pass you're talking about. Was it? Yeah, and I actually think, I don't think it was that much. I think it was like 2 99.
No, I, I remember it being specifically three super. Cause I was like, if I save a dollar a day, I can get a pass. Never did it. Of course, yeah. Money. I bought candy or something stupid. But yeah. No. Yeah, I remember thinking of that and like now to look at how much those, you know, season passes are now. It's so crazy.
Daniel:We looked into it. Do you know how much it's for like a private tour of Disneyland?
Is that including like a group of four or
Daniel:just, Well, I think you can do up to like nine, 10 people and I think cuz you have to do it for so many hours, but I think it comes out to like, like 4,000, 4,000. Yeah, but if you divide it, that includes okay. But if you, if, but if you divide that between, let's say 10 people, not that much, and then you don't cut to the front line, but you kind of get like a, a, you have fast passes throughout the whole. And if it's like, and if it's like one of like the, the big rides, like the one in Star Wars, then I do, I think you do go to like the front of the line. Um, and it's pretty cool cuz then like, let's say you buy something, you don't have to hold it with you. Those story. and, uh, up in front. And so like when you leave, you carry it out. You don't have to worry about having with you all the time throughout the day or just say like, you want like a treat or like, uh, get some lunch. The, your tour guy will. say that line for you.
I'm gonna say, depending on how, what that all entails, uh, it probably would be worth it. So if you, if it goes up to nine people and it's about 4,000, it comes out to about$444 a person. Mm-hmm.
Daniel:Yeah. So I guess it all depends on like your budget, how bad, but it would be pretty cool cause I think I saw. a couple YouTube videos like a year ago where I think one group did like 14 rides, and that was from Disneyland, California Venture, and another group did like 17, 18 rides. So yeah, so
it sounds like it's, it's probably worth it.
Daniel:And so like I said, it's all depends on like your beliefs and your Yeah. And. But, And then plus too, you have a tour guy who's giving you like all these cool little facts throughout the park, so Yeah. Yeah. And that's like one of the hardest jobs to, to get at Disney is one of those tour guys. That makes sense. Yeah. All right. So you have no more, That's all I had. I will say though, too real quick. Disneyland at Christmas. magical. Yeah, it really is. Yeah. You can't, you can't beat it. You can't beat it. Alright, so my fourth one, I'm a little surprised you. I thought I had, I have this on the maybe list cause I thought you were going to say it, but, you did it. Welcome nhl. You're back. Today's was opening night of, uh, NHL season.
That it is, that is, um, excuse me. Uh, definitely exciting. I mean, I gotta see some of the pre-season games, uh, so of all, at least of the ducks. Um, so I am excited for that. But I do know that the, um, excuse me, the duck's home opener, I believe is tomorrow. So that's, um, that's what I'm pretty excited.
Daniel:Are we, when an Avalanche Ducks game this
year? I don't know. Who's your team? It keeps rotating between avalanche kings, whoever's in the playoffs, whoever's in the semi cub. I can't keep track of the team. You're old. That's true this
Daniel:year. That's true. I'm gonna go with the Alanche. Alanche. I know I missed the, I missed the parade. So, but uh, shocker.
Shocker again. One 15. That's, I just recently won. Or just on the
Daniel:upright, but I missed it. So like I might have to wait a long time.
Right. I think they're still gonna be a solid team though, cause they seems pretty young, so they
Daniel:should still be pretty solid. Yeah, I have been following them. but I ha, like I said, I haven't been invested in them, so like there's a couple players here and there. I could, recall throughout the years. but yeah, once the strike happened in, was it oh 4, 0 5 and then oh five, yeah, then I got, I was still an ABS fan, but it was just so hard to follow the team and so, you know, it is what it is. Yeah. But, uh, yeah, a's game, um, AVEs and Ducks, let's go.
Let me see how I can look that up. See LY
Daniel:here. Uh, so our brother-in-law recommended this app, not a sponsor, not yet a time app. And the thing I like about this app is, the price that you see that they advertise is already, uh, is the price that will cost you to purchase a ticket. So, you know, like you go like on Stub Hub or something and you, it says 40 bucks for this ticket, but then you click on it and it's like they have all these fees. Mm-hmm. Well, the game time app already has, it has all that already into the price, so you know how much the total is already. And so, all right, so let's go see, roll back real quick. Uh, back on this date, what happened back on this date? Um, I imagine something. 1975, uh, a show started up, A show started up and it was a TV sketch comedy that debuted on Saturday night on nbc. Johnny went to take a guess of what that show was.
Saturday Night
Daniel:Live? Yes, sir. Boom. Okay. Any quiz throughout me? Um, real quick, who's your favorite? S nl? Um, cast member.
Mm, Not
Daniel:host.
I'm have to go. Chris Farley.
Daniel:Chris Farley. Yeah. He was a good one. Yeah.
Uh, I mean, there was movies that he was in that wasn't that great, but just he made it fun. So funny and so entertained to watch. What about you?
Daniel:Uh, I'm gonna go with the dope, going with Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy. Oh.
Was he
Daniel:on Saturday night Life? Yeah. He actually saved it. It was actually really, the ratings were really low and they were on, they were literally on threads and, um, he, uh, they hired him and him and, uh, Joe Pial. They were like the two big stars. They were like in every sketch. Cool. Um, so, and I've actually gone back to watch his stuff on s and Down. It was, um, All right. Favorite under, not, I don't wanna say underrated, but like, who was another favorite but wasn't a big movie star? Um,
I wasn't, well my second favorite would part would be Adam Sandler, but he's obviously a big movie star. Yeah, I don't know. That's a good question. Okay,
Daniel:I'll about this. How about this I about this favorite female cast number. There's a lot issues from,
Right. It's probably a bad timing, so I, I've never really. Into watching SNL on a regular. I've seen skids here and there, which were funny, but on the regular, not really.
Daniel:Um, I'm trying to
think of a female, and nothing's going to my mind right
Daniel:now. All right. So I'll give you my top three. I'll give you my top three. Alright, Go for it. Uh, I'm gonna go with, um, Tina Fa. Okay. Amy Puller.
Ooh, that's
Daniel:a good one right there. And Kate McKen. Kate McKennon.
Yeah. Which was she, what, what was she in that she just,
Daniel:she just left, She just left the show. But, um, there's so much. Um, she just, she was like, the last couple years she was actually the main person, like the main star of the show. And then, um, back in 1971, uh, A British musician by the name of John Lennon, uh, his album Imagine was released as a, Oh, I'm sorry. His single Imagine was released, which is, uh, they play on every, uh, nears, I believe at Time Square. It's a good song.
Very good song.
Daniel:Yeah. And then, Happy Birthday. Two one. Miss Eleanor Roosevelt. She was also born on October 11th, 1884. Happy birthday. Yeah. And so, all right,
um, this fyi, it looks like March 27th, it's a Monday. Let's do it. Has as and ducks
Daniel:and
let's do. Boom.
Daniel:All right. So you able to go onto the topic? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Just, uh, let you guys know. We're just going, John and I made like a top 10 list of things that we grew up with that kids don't have today, and so, Or it is
just not as,
Daniel:Yeah. And so, um, and then after that we're just gonna go ahead and uh, end it. We did not do dad draft this week, um, because we kind of made our own little list here of uh, fun little facts. So, um, alright, so the first one for me, And it's funny, when I think back of growing up, this actually comes, this is the first thing that come to mind. Um, I had a big collection with them and I think you did too. Um, it seemed like every weekend we would go to the store and see what the latest I, this item, um, was released and it was fun. Um, PS.
Yeah, remember
Daniel:those slammers, or you and I were playing, um, pods all the time and the kids in our neighborhood had their collection and we would always play every day. And uh, yeah, that was great. And I even remember too, mom, uh, took us to knots one year, one summer and they had like a big promotion about pos and we came home with a bunch of pos and, um, it was, so, yeah, I never got my slam. I've always wanted that. The one thing I always wanted was, uh, yellow gold, big slammer, but never got it.
Um, I remember the, one of the songs I had I thought was so cool cause I had two finger indentions. Yeah, put your finger, smack it down.
Daniel:Ah, that was, that was fine. Those are good. Now, did you like doing two stack, or did you like doing like a big stack and then throwing the slammer down
the big stack because you got more, you got more bang for that one.
Daniel:Yeah, it was just so heartening when you play for keeps and like you lose, you're like, Oh, I love that P and uh, play me again for that one when you want. Yeah. That's how the gambling addiction started. You good? So yeah. But um, yeah, looking back on and I actually, during the pandemic, I was looking at Amazon and I was like, There was like a, they have pod setss for sale. Oh yeah. I thought, I thought about buying, thought about buying one, but um, I was just like, ah, I'm never gonna play. So, Yeah. But I guess
it boys get a little bit older.
Daniel:That's what I was thinking. You know, Danny turned seven next, next week and I was like, Think she's ready. Cause we were about like, what? Yeah. You see we were about like 11. 10 and 11. So she's not that far behind you. Were probably from her age seven or eight. Yeah, I was gonna say
around seven or eight. Yeah.
Daniel:So, Okay. But yeah, I, that was awesome. I love right up with, uh, with pos, so that was, was great. Um, Nice. Good times.
Did
Daniel:you have a favorite pod that you remember?
There was one, uh, I remember the inside had like a red spider. With, uh, the background was like a metallic, dark green. Mm-hmm. it was really cool about this was it looked like a, like a blade saw. So it had like the ridges, you know, uh, that was not pointy, but they were kind of like a point. And I remember that was, to me, that was one of my favorite ones. Did you have one that you still dream about? No, I don't.
Daniel:No. Yeah, there's so many either. Yeah. Um, All right, so that was number one. Or our list. And we're not going, and we didn't rank these in any other order. We just, uh, made a list.
So as it came to memory.
Daniel:Yeah. Um, alright. Uh, number two, um, I think if you, when you look back at the nineties, uh, especially the sitcom, it was a golden era of family friendly shows such as Full House. French Prince Boy, Meet World, Family matters, Home improvement, step by step. Sister. Sister. So, uh, yeah, so family TV shows big part of, uh, of growing up. I was gonna say t i f every, uh, every Friday from uh, eight to 10. That's what he knew. That's when it was. All right. The weekends here, like weekend has started because now Yeah. You knew you were gonna go to bed and you didn't have to get up in the morning, go to school.
Yeah. I remember one thing that I loved about the i f was whenever it was the seasonal ones, so if it was a Halloween, you know, episode? Mm-hmm. all of them were Halloween episodes and they just got Get you in the season, whatever it was. Yeah. Christmas or whatnot.
Daniel:Yeah. Um, you have a favorite family show?
Uh, I think I kind of have to go. If you would ask me when I was younger, I think I would've went with Family Matters. Mm-hmm. But now I think I, I would go with Boy Merold, I, boy
Daniel:me Twi, I'm gonna go with French Prince. I about French. This is all one Uncle, Uncle Fail. Can't go wrong with, with Uncle Fail. And I would, I watched the reunion and then he was last year. on hbo. It was fun too. That was pretty interesting. Yeah, it was fun to see everybody, but at the same time it was sad cuz you know, the actor that play Uncle Phil is no longer with us. So that's the way. Yeah. Yeah. But uh, yeah, every Friday, you know, you watch it and then even too like, um, like in the late nineties, like all those shows that were popular in the mid nineties, were now like on channel five or 13, like at six, seven o'clock and so, Right. Yeah. So you're like, Oh, well I'm watching that. And so like, I think that's when I got into like home improvement. I never saw like home, home improvement online. But when they made that switch to like the reruns, that's when I started watching home.
And if anybody's a big fan of Boy Meet's World, um, they actually have a podcast with Sean, Eric and Uhgo, and it's called, uh, Podcast Meets World. And I just, I started listening to it. I'm like several episodes in and. It's actually really cool cause they talk a lot about behind scenes
Daniel:and it's awesome. Don't worry, we're gonna edit that out. So, I'm gonna do you a favor. Why is that? Well, uh, edit that out and, uh, you can thank me later. All right, number three. So I remember. Um, Some most nights on Saturday nights, um, we'd always be bugging our, our parents and, Oh, can we go to Blockbuster? Can we go Hollywood video? Can we go rent a video? And, um, nine out of 10 times, I think you would agree, like for a wrestling. V vhs
correct. For you
Daniel:and I? Yes, yes. Yeah. And for rain, Sure. Not so much. Yeah, not so much. So, um, but yeah, it was always disappointing when you're like, I'm gonna watch this one, and it was gone. But yeah,
I was just gonna say, there's nothing like seeing the one you want and then going behind it to see there's none, none left.
Daniel:Or if you go to Blockbuster and you're like, Wait a minute, I rec, I don't recognize the picture, because they don't have. Is this the right movie? Yeah. Uh, I remember one time, um, I forgot why did something happened and Bomb was like, What? What show, uh, what movie? What movie can I rent you from? The video star? And I said, Austin Powers love to watch Austin Powers. She's like, You got it. She pulls in the driveway. I'm like, Yes, run downstairs. And I go, Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme. Got the bank. I look at the VHS and it said, Absolute powers. It was a different movie. It was so crush. It was so crush. The hell is this So,
did you watch it?
Daniel:No. No. All right, so number four. This was, um, I didn't have a big collection, but I did have one or two books of the series and uh, I believe my. My best friend Moses, he had a big collection, so he would let me borrow the books. And then I also saw the TV show late on Saturday nights, which was like, and he came all like around 1130 at nights. Um, the Goosebump books, Goosebump
series. Yeah.
Daniel:Yeah, those are some pretty crazy stories. Uh, your imagination goes wild. And yeah, that was, that was another one I had on the list. Um, just like book fillers, book fairs in, in general. Um, you know, everything's like now digital these days, so I'm not sure like how excited kids. For bookstores, but I just remember like whenever they came to our school and they were there for like three days, it was just game on and you're like, Oh wow, this is like Christmas. And you want, you're like your, you go look for like a cool little book. So, um, but maybe that should be on the list. Just books, splits in general.
Yeah, I remember not being, I remember being so happy just to like get like a new bookmark and looking back, I'm like, Yeah,
Daniel:Okay. Number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, uh, TV schedule. Now you can go with TV guide, which I don't think we really had growing up. Or if you had the cable, um, And I think you go to like channel three or four and, and you would, um, yeah, you just watch the list of TV shows, scroll down and it didn't matter where it was, you were gonna wait until your channel came up and you wanted to know what was coming. That channel.
Yeah. Don't look away for two seconds. Yeah. You missed the channel you wanted to see
Daniel:And now guess what? Now you have to restart And so yeah, those were the days, um, that tough patience. It's funny cuz it's like we we're, we're staying with my mother-in-law right now and she doesn't have wifi and Danny has had that luxury all her life and she's like, Wait a minute, I wanna watch. I wanna watch this cartoon, I wanna watch this movie. And it's like, Sorry, you can't, You have to, you have to watch what's on tv. You're in our world, man. Yeah, exactly. And she's like, Wow, this is kind of sucks. Oh, this is what, this is what we, what we had to do growing up. And. I think it was, uh, I forgot what time of day or what day it was, but she did say one time I'm like, Did you wanna go watch, um, do you want TV time right now? And she's like, No, this show's probably on, I don't wanna watch it. And she's like, But I think this show comes on later, so I'll, I'll wait until that show. So the timer. So, yeah. And so that's something he had to do back then,
right? Yeah,
Daniel:yeah. Yeah. It was. Um, Alright. Next is, um, playing outside.
Yeah. Yeah. You and I did that a lot.
Daniel:Just playing outside you going and I just like looking back on it. Like, I can't believe, you know, at least I did what I did. Um, sometimes I just got on my bike and start running around the city. and then come back home like after like an hour. Um, I can't even think about Danny doing something like that. I would just
Well, I doubt you did it at her age right
Daniel:now, right? Yeah. Uh, but it's pretty close. It's pretty close. I mean, maybe like another three, four years. But still, I mean, at age 10 would Juli Church sons. Right around the city? Probably not. No, exactly.
No, you're right. Cause I remember with me and my friends in the neighborhood, we would, I mean, and was just me and one of my friends, Steven. We would just get on our bikes and go ride all over the place. And I remember one time he took a spill and we didn't have cell phones or we cell really. We had help get'em up and we walked back home.
Daniel:Yeah. So it's crazy. But then I, You miss him. I mean, it's like also like, you know, like going to around the corner to Moses's house playing pick up basketball or getting, uh, getting, uh, football game going, getting football game in the middle of the street. Um, so yeah, I mean, you don't see that in nowadays and maybe times have changed. Baby kids are just. Learn new normals to stay inside. I don't know, but that's something uh, we did and I'm glad we did cuz it was, it was awesome. A lot of, whenever I think back of the childhood, I think of those moments of uh, you know, playing with everybody.
I think we were that last like ending of the generation of the parents having to come outside saying, Okay, it's dinner time, you guys come inside, you know, and we would've to wrap up whatever game. Okay. Next point wins. Whatever it was. And that's when we would go in, clean up and, you know, have dinner. But, um, no. Yeah, and cuz and we even had like a console so we can't say like, Oh we didn't have, you know, PlayStation or something. Like, we had video games that we played here and there, but we still just wanted to go outside and play.
Daniel:But yeah. But I think like, maybe cuz the. The games have improved a little bit. Maybe they're a little bit more addicting than it was back there. Yeah.
So, And they have more options nowadays. I mean, you have your VR world, right? You can feel like you leave the house without leaving the house.
Daniel:That's right. But yeah, a lot of good memories there. Um, all right, next one, going to somebody's house and studying their VHS CD collection. Um, Yeah, everyone had like their vh. Actually the, when I think of VH VHS collections, the first thing I think of are the Disney movies. The big box sets. Yeah, exactly. The big Booky sets. And you're like, Ooh. Yeah, okay. Saw that. Oh man, that guy has goofy movie. That guy's winner right there. Yeah. Um, but. Yeah, I, that's what I had on my list. Uh, VHS Music collection,
vhs and your Yeah, the CD collection. Um, go through someone's CD collection. Can tell you a lot about them. How so? Find a good. Also just kind of, you know, like genres they were in and then you get to bond with them like, Oh hey, like, you like this man, or you like this song. And it's funny cuz I remember sometimes people had a whole, had the cd, but they're like, Oh yeah, I just like that one song. Right. They'll, okay. So it was always fun to go over it.
Daniel:Okay. Next. Nonetheless. Um, this was one of my favorite TV shows. Growing up as a kid, I think it came on like a. I wanna say four o'clock every uh, weekday afternoon. And the Power Rangers. Yeah, Power Rangers. From time.
I'll never forget the day that, um, I think I went with mom somewhere and I came home and you're like, John, like you gotta watch this show that did that just came on and you were so excited about it. And I remember. This is weird. Like, you know, like we were at an age where you didn't tell me like you didn't suggest things like that to me. And I just remember being super excited, like, okay. And then when I watched, I fell in love with it. I think that year or the next year I was like the, the Red Power Ranger for, for Halloween. But yeah, it's marketing time. That's right.
Daniel:Um, and then, uh, so real quick, Red Power Ranger. Jason. Oh yeah, yeah.
Jason.
Daniel:Billy was the blue little one. Par Zach was the black, right? Uh, Tommy was green. Par
among
Daniel:other colors, but yeah, gr, green, white, whatever. Um, Kimberly was pink, correct? And then, I can't remember the yellow, Was it? Training. Yes. I wanted to say trans, but I didn't think that was it. So training. Yeah, so, um, but yeah, it was such a great series. Big part of my childhood,
whatever. Remember who they were, the teleport too, to go talk to Zordon. Yeah. And then do you remember the little robot that helped him out? Name? No. Alpha five. Alpha five. Yeah. Alpha five. Yeah, I think you're right.
Daniel:Make it right. Uh, good
times. Do you remember the villains name? No.
Daniel:Rita Raposa. Rita. I remember John
I on certain things.
Daniel:uh, and um, The next one on our list, this was a little over, I never even been talking about was nineties, but then, you know, I am a little older than John, so, um, but if you go to like, I think like 99, where it started when you started to download, um, music was, uh, Na and Lime Wire. Yeah. Um, I remember when someone told me about it and, uh, they told me how to download the, the link and the site and next thing I know I had like a bunch of music. Like whole library. Yeah. And then, uh, just one day it was gone. Yeah.
Yeah, I remember. Um, even if you just wanted to hear like this song right then and there, just go download it real quick. And then blue and they never even listen to it again. Yeah.
Daniel:And it's true. And that really destroyed the, the music store companies. Yeah. Unfortunately. Yeah. I actually just saw, um, Empire Records like a month ago. Missed, I missed that movie. Mid that movie. Great soundtrack, great cast. Um,
his name is a Warren
Daniel:but, and then, um, this last one, why don't you say it cuz he used your
idea. Last one was my idea. Um, that was the, uh, calling the, uh,
Daniel:Toy in cereal box.
Oh, okay. Yes. Yeah, that was my idea. You right? Yeah. Um, so yeah, so Toys in Cereal Box. As a kid, you don't even care about the cereal. When you see there's a toy in there, you just wanna get the toy and get it out. You get excited when you go once you get to it. But nowadays they don't really have that. So that's a. Yeah.
Daniel:Yeah. But that's our list of, uh, of what we had growing up, but kids don't have today. And so, um, if we left anything off the list, please let us know If, um, there's something that was a big part of your child that we didn't say, um, drop us a message on. I. We'd love to, maybe we'll share some of the responses next episode. Um, to the list. Yeah, add it to the list. And so think that's it. Think I'm good. John, is there anything else you wanna say?
Yeah, so, you know, I gotta get my fun fact in for, for the episode. All right. So, uh, everyone knows where Detroit City is, right? More or less. Well, fun fact, Canada is actually south. So if you're in Detroit City to go to Canada, you could just drive south and you'll end up in Canada. So
Daniel:if you're that, if you're in Michigan, you have to drive south to get to Canada. You don't have to, but you can't. Yes.
Look it up on, look it up. When I
Daniel:process one, could I just go north and say, might be faster. Um,
so I think to go north, but now second, you're gonna have. Either, uh, go through the one of the lakes or you have to drive around the lake. But if you just drive south from Detroit City, you'll hit Canada. There you
Daniel:go. Learn something every day.
Check it out. Cause I out. I thought it was incorrect, but nope. It's a fact.
Daniel:That is pretty cool. Good job, John. All right. Uh, from John and I, thanks for listening and don't go changing.
