Happy New Year

Daniel Aguilar

All right. Hello everybody and welcome to another episode, uh, four G Dad Stakes podcast. Yes, we are back. Getting ready to kick off 2023. John, happy New Year. How's it going, man? Happy New Year. Hello, 2023. uh, new Year's is pretty good. Um, pretty quiet. I think everybody in my house besides myself was asleep by 10 45, give or take. So, um, I counted down. Actually, I didn't even get to countdown, so, uh, everybody was asleep about 11, 10 or so. My youngest woke. I had to go get him, try to get him, go back to sleep. He didn't wanna go back to sleep. He got his, he's actually getting his molars growing, coming in his back teeth. And so I didn't get him, put him down till about one 10. So I held him as the New Year came in. Yeah, that's How was yours? Doesn't sound like fun. Uh, we went to, he visit our friends in, uh, Bakersfield. Stood there for the weekend. Uh, shout out to Anthony and Christian Ro. Uh, and yeah, it can be, kids loved it cuz they have, you know, their kids are our kids' age and so we stood up and, uh, counted down the near and lept in. And so if I, myself, I guess we get older. I don't know if you experienced this, it's like no matter what time, like the day the sleep began, are long gone. I mean, even if I'm home by, if I'm home by myself, I'm waking up at six o'clock. There's just like, there's no way around it. It's just once you're on dad time, you're on dad time. There's no, you can't, you can't go around it. You just can't. I don't, it's only a coworker that, the other day I was like, you know, I, I don't even remember what it's like to sleep in. Yeah. Yeah. It's been a long time. Been a long time for me. Uh, again, I don't know. I don't know when than the last time I slept. Eight o'clock, seven o'clock I think. Yeah. Cause you know, there's like those times where you, once in a while will sleep in oversleep, but yeah, eight o'clock, I don't, can't remember the last time. It has to be like years. I don't know if this has just been because like getting up with, with the youngest throughout the years, but, um, I have a hard time just staying asleep throughout the night. There times I just wake up just to kind of readjust and just fall back asleep. even just sleeping throughout the whole night. I, I don't even, it's been a long time since I just slept through the night like that. Yeah. Well, before we get started, I just want to say, uh, doc and prayers are with, uh, Buffalo Bills safety Debar, Hamlin, um, I'm sure everyone knows by now what happened on Monday night. Um, he went up fishing him the best tackle and got up, but then went right back. uh, I don't want to speculate on what happened cause you know, you're hearing multiple reports, but I think the positive thing is he's doing signs are, are pointing in the right direction. So hope he makes a sweetie recovery. I Did you, uh, did you see the game? Did you, did you watch what happened? So I didn't, I wasn't watching the game. I was actually, um, upstairs getting our two oldest. And then, uh, my wife, she's the one that told me, she's like, Hey, she, did you hear about the Buffalo before Bills player? I was like, no. What? She's like, yeah, he, they had to do CPR on him on the, on the field. I was like, what? And um, that's when I went to my phone and it's all the play and, um, yeah, it's a scary scene. Just think someone just, you know, drop like that. Um, but thankfully they were able to, you know, get to. administrators, c p R, and, you know, get into the hospital. The, the, I saw it alive, obviously. Um, I've never seen players look the way they, like, the look they had on the, on their faces. You can tell like something was wrong. I mean, we've. you and I have been watching sports for a very long time and mm-hmm. we've seen like, probably broken bones and you could tell like the other players care for the person who's injured and usually it's like they roll'em away and the guy gives a thumbs up and kind of take like five, 10 minutes and then it's like, okay, back at it. I mean the look on Josh Allen's face, like he looked freaked out. Like, I mean right. He players just crying, sobbing and it was a very surreal moment. And, and it's like I said, it's something I'm never gonna, um, forget. And it's funny too, cuz it's like you're kind of like, Danny walked in and she was like, what? What's going on? And we're, and it's like, what do you tell your kid? Like, um, especially right now, she's seven and she's starting to figure out what death is, and it's starting to freak her out a little bit. So we basically just told her that he had an accident and that their doctors are working on him and. which is true, I mean, right. Didn't lie. But, uh, it's like, you know, you don't wanna lie. You're in, you don't wanna lie to your kid in that situation at the same time, you know, you kind of want to tread lightly on, on how you, how you handle it. Right. Well, I mean, at that point in time, there wasn't anything saying that he had passed or anything like that. So they were, it was, oh, it was on Twitter that, uh, his heart did stop, and they had to use a defibrillator. I think that's when the players freaked out. They right, they, they used defibrillator right away. So for that to happen, his heart had to have stopped. Um, and I think it was his cousin that didn't interview today that, that it actually stopped twice. Um, yeah. So it was just, uh, they, and that's the reason why you see, saw the look on. on those players' faces, cuz you could tell they've never experienced that before. I mean, being like seeing that firsthand Right. Digg to like a Yeah. Uh, so it's just, uh, yeah, I hope he gets better. Um, and yeah, it's just, like I said, it's a very, it's a very crappy situation. You hope for the best. Oh yeah. To kind of touch on the, the topic of what you meant right now. you know, um, your daughters kind of started coming around like to, I guess getting the idea of death and whatnot. Um, just outta curiosity, how do you guys talk about, you know, her, her grandparents or her grand, her grand pause? Um, you mean like dad? Yeah, I'm sorry. uh, well, she knows that, you know, their, uh, grandpa Danny and, and Papa Gonzi are, are in heaven. And that, you know, they watch over her every day to make sure, you know, she's okay. And, uh, you know, she understands the situation. Um, right. You know, and so, like, you know, she knows she won't have that physical relationship. Doesn't mean she can't have that, like that emotional relationship. And so, um, so yeah, so she knows what she, she, she knows what the situation is. And at this point, you know, we just told her, we just tell her, you know, we always share good stories, basically. You know, we just, you, I'm not saying dwell on it, but Yeah. Cause, but yeah. Okay. Because I mean, we've, we've experie. Um, well, our dog passed away and so our, my oldest, he was around four, I believe at the time. Yeah. And we had to say, you know, she was sick and, you know, she, she passed away and whatnot. And, um, and we, same thing about dad. Uh, we said, you know, he, he passed away, you know, a while ago and he's, he's with us in spirit and stuff. Yeah. And. one of the first things he said is like, oh, so he's with grandpa. I was like, yeah, yeah, she's with grandpa now. And, um, so yeah. So I'm just curious as far as like how you guys, I guess, kind of approach the topic if, if it's something that Yeah, I mean, you're trying to be truthful, but, you know, we don't want to traumatize her, obviously. Um, you know, like, I think it's coming to the realization, like, I think, I think she's processed the idea of not having. Her great grandmama's around that much longer. Mm, okay. You know, and stuff. So, um, yeah. So, you know, it's a sensitive, uh, subject obviously, and maybe we can get to it like another podcast, but we, you know, like, again, we, we don't wanna, we don't want to lie, but at the same time, we don't want to traumatize and try to, we try to be positive about it, right? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you could, you could talk about that topic and not. so grim about it. Exactly. All right, so, um, before we get into tonight's topic, guys, for those you don't know, tonight's topic will be New Year's and New Year's resolutions. So, but before we get to that, I figure we can have a quick recap on, um, just basically how our Christmas season was, uh, and Christmas Day. So, this year. It was nice. The family was back together. Mm-hmm. and I think this was, uh, our first Christmas together, if I'm not mistaken, since 2019. I believe you're right. Yeah. Yeah. Right. So it's been a cool year since the cousins were together on Christmas, and that was fun to see you having them run around. Uh, brought back a lot of memories, watching them sit down. rip Open, rip opened their presence and Oh, yeah. Um, having like all the, the wrapping paper all over the floor, that was pretty cool. Um, how was your, uh, Christmas morning with, with the family? It was good. It was good. Um, let's see. I believe the first one awake was probably, uh, my second son, Zander. He, he woke up and he. He, every morning he says, let's go downstairs. So it wasn't anything new. And then, uh, my youngest woke up and then my oldest was actually the last one to wake up and head downstairs. They were super excited. He saw that, you know, Santa Claus ate some of the cookies, drank the milk. He just, and um, we just, you know, got them ready to open presents. And then, uh, it was funny cuz after we opened presents, my wife, she has a tradition where she makes pancake. but she dyes the batter green and she makes, uh, like little smaller stacks. It looks like a, you know, Christmas tree in a sense. And the kids were just, sorry, They were impatient. Uh, don't want to eat and so do breakfast as fast as possible. But, um, overall the kids, they had a blast. They were excited. Um, they wanted to open every toy they got, so they were, it was. Yeah, we, uh, told Danny there was a, not that we had a problem, but I think last year we did wake up really early, like at six 30. So we told her, uh, going forward that the rule is can't open gifts unless the sun comes up So, um, she was anxious. She wanted to go to bed early the night before she wanted to know, um, Yeah, so it was awesome. It was pretty cool. We, um, woke up again. Same thing as, you know, open presence, uh, first in Sherry's family, like going back when she was a little girl. breakfast was a big deal. So like mm-hmm. So I believe Sherry and Danny made eggs and, uh, some hash browns and some like other stuff and sat down and had a good breakfast. Uh, I think we had a mistake though. I think we scheduled Mo Melissa was going to Melissa's house a little too early because Bob o'clock came up fast. Uh, yeah, it did. We were opening, there's no, no big downtime. Yeah. And the next thing you know, it's like 10 30 and I'm like, oh crap, we gotta be out here about an hour. And I don't, no one's showered. So we're trying to get everything. The house is a mess. So it was, uh, I think the house was a mess for like two days. I mean, we tried to do everything we could to like get organized, but the kids had so much stuff. Um, yeah. So, yeah. So it was, uh, but I mean, that's just the stuff you're gonna remember. Uh, so just outta curiosity, like what did you guys do when you got back from Melissa's? Uh, let's see. When we got back, that was, I'm trying to think. Cuz we normally try to time it cuz it's a pretty good drive. We normally try to time it where the kids fall asleep. Mm-hmm. um, I believe the kids were asleep. Uh, I got in the box of gifts and leftovers and all that stuff, and. I think that was just, it was nice. I wanna say it was just a time where, you know, my wife and I, we just kind of got to relax and just had some US time and just got to unwind. Um, yeah. Had like a drink or, or two And Yeah. Um, go crazy. Just, yeah, just had like one, one or two drinks and just unwind. It was nice. The weird thing is the kids were awake, which was shocking to me. Cause I thought from having a big day, no naps, and we got back running around they were kind of like still a little bit on that high. Um, so we, uh, I put a Christmas movie and so like, if you guys know me, I always watch a Christmas movie, uh, on Christmas Day. And so we, I, which I did this morning, uh, that morning. I put it on cause I got to see it. But then, uh, we came back, uh, I saw a Christmas movie, Christmas story too. It, oh, was it a new it? It's a new one that just came out, um, like beginning of December, I believe. And uh, so basically it takes place when he's older, obviously with his whole, with his own family. But I think it takes place like in the, the eighties, maybe late seventies. and uh, and, uh, his dad just passed away and so he goes back home to take care of the arrangements with his mom and try to introduce his, uh, show his kids what Christmas was him life, what was like for him growing up. And I liked it. I kind of say, I kind of the movie, and so I think it's gonna go on the, the Christmas list every year. Was it. was there some of the, um, original characters now older in it? In it, yeah. Yeah. And they flashback. So you can see, so like I think one of his friends, uh, you know, he runs into at a bar and they start talking and then it, once he says his name, it flashback to the original movie and it shows the kid putting his tongue on the, the pole. So you know who he's talking to. So there, well dog there. Yeah, you don't, you don't play with double dolls there. I was a triple dog dick, actually. Triple. Oh, that's right. Triple. Triple doll. Yeah. So the kids' reactions. So I wanna talk about my birthday real quick. So real quick, before we get to that, I did have one question for you. Mm-hmm. On Christmas Eve, were you guys done wrapping presents or did you have to, do you do some wrapping that night? Oh no, we were, you were done? Yeah, we're done. All right. Impressive. Impressive. I have a little tradition where I, I get some last ones done that night. Um, okay, so this year I turned 40 and we arranged for a family get together. It was kind of like a weekend thing. So like Sherry and I had a. A date night on Friday and then on Saturday expected with the kids and did a bunch of stuff. And then on Sunday we got together with you mom, Melissa, Sergio, and it was a nice weekend. And the Wednesday after Christmas, I thought we were getting together to celebrate your wife and the fact that she just finished her, uh, her, her job. Mm-hmm. He thought it was, his birthday was done. It's Jonathan. And actually, um, and I'll let you tell the story and how it came about, but I didn't find out, um, until after that. This was your wife's idea? Yes. You know what, I'll, I'll, I'll give her the credit. This is her idea. I planted the seed and she, she applied the water and it blossomed and she, she's the one that presented it. We'll, we'll say that. Go ahead. Let them know what, what happened. No. So we, her and I, we've been wanting to go to, you know, to uh, some text games, some hockey games, and, uh, we were looking at a couple ticket prices and we were like, eh, like Daniel just turned 40. Wow. Big four. Oh, like we should do something, something like fun for him that he'll remember. And um, and she's the one that kind of put the, cause it was around the time we were looking at the tickets, she was like, oh, let's, let's take him to a game. And I was like, that is a great idea. He's been wanting to go, he is been asking. And so we were looking at tickets and we were like, we can't get a, you know, up there in the nosebleed section, there's gotta be good tickets for em. So no, no can have that. So we. we, we called, uh, we text Mal and surge and said, Hey, here's what we're thinking you guys in. They said, yeah, let's do it. And so then, uh, that was actually planned quite a bit before your birthday. And then we were trying to think of like, okay, how, how are we all gonna meet over there without you knowing? Cuz we wanted to keep a secret. We wanted it to be a surprise for you. And, uh, you know, my wife, she just happened to be finishing. Her last day, that day. So she's like, oh, let's say, you know, I wanna meet up for drinks. I'm coming from Irvine, like Anaheim's kind of in the middle. Like, that'd be a good, good, you know, cover. So I was like, yeah, actually no, that, that is, that's awesome. That actually plays out perfectly. And I, I swear on Christmas when you kept like looking at tickets and stuff, I thought you kind of had like a hint something was going on and that was you trying to say like, alright guys, like I know we're. And I even told him, I was like, I think he has an idea. So about that. So like, again, I was outside in the backyard and I was doing what everyone in America was doing was checking their Instagram. And it was one of those promotions, like those, uh, commercials that that came up. And then it was an ad for like a mini ticket plan. And if you buy this ticket, you get a U Christmas ugly Ducks Christmas sweater. So like, oh, that's cool. And that's why I opened it, because I think that's the coolest sweater I've ever seen. And it is And so I sort of started looking again. I'm like, oh wow. It's like the Islanders, the, the Boston Bruins. These are teams I would like, like to see. Um, so I was like, Hey, I thought I just threw it out there. Uh, did not have any idea of what was going on, even. we got to the bar and I saw like everyone in their duck scare and how close we worked to the, to the, um, Honda Center. It still didn't register with me and when you and Brit got off. So obviously Melissa and Sergio got there before you guys did and we're talking right, and the bar, the brewery, it's just so small, but it's packed with duck fans. to me, I'm just like, well, this makes sense because we're in Anaheim and now I know if I ever wanted to go see a duck skiing this probably the one, this was probably the, uh, somewhere I would, would come to. And then you and Brit showed up a few minutes later and I saw you guys get off the car and. you guys had your duck jersey. It still didn't register what was going on, And uh, actually the first note in my head was like, oh, that jerk, he knew we were coming here. He could have told me. I could have brought my hat, could have brought my shirt. I go, And then, uh, then you told me and I didn't believe you. And then like Sergio said something and I looked back at my wife. He's like nodding. Guess like, it's true. You're an indicator I was just like, and I think it kind of like you guys played it perfect, to be honest, because if you guys would've told me, let's say like all my birthday or all at Christmas, like what was going on, right? I would've been anxious all day. I probably would've want to get there like at uh, an hour before the game, you know, to walk around, get a feel for. Environment. I wanted to look the, we were probably warm, Lucy, so we were sitting probably where, uh, who did they play that night? I forgot. You forgot who they played. Yeah, I forgot who they played. I just remember a win. I just remember a win. Um, you forgot too. I was hoping my memory. Oh, Vegas, Las Vegas. Vegas Las Vegas nights. That's right. That's right. The nights, yeah. I wanted to look beer in their eyes when they took the ice And in a way you guys robbed me of that, but I would not change, forgive you, I would not change anything about that night. That was awesome. I was surprised. I had fun. Um, I, that's the closest I ever been to a puck coming inside the stands and it was like right there for the taken. Uh, unfortunately we didn't get it, but. Yeah. But again, too, like I said, I, looking back, I would not change anything. It was perfect. Uh, it was funny. Thank you. Cause uh, I told, um, I told Brit and I was like, uh, I was like, what time do you think we should meet up? Cuz I mean, obviously I got off work kind of late, but I got off work early to get there. Mm-hmm. bit earlier. And, um, she was like, yeah, we could go there, we can have a beer or two, and then we could, you know, head over to the, to the Honda Center. and in my head I was like, we could meet there, but if I know Daniel, like you'll just want to go to the game right away. Like he wants to get there before and yeah, be in that environment. Um, I think that's the fastest I ever drank a beer before in my life. It was, uh, it was awesome. I think, I think it was perfect cuz we, we got to just kind of hang out there for like, you know, a couple minutes, enjoy a beer and then we just walked over and we were still there before the puck drops. So it, it was nice and it makes sense. It makes sense that Brittany would, would plan this, you know, like you would say, because, you know, we've, we were softball teammates and you know, we took the fill together and that's a, that's a bond. You can't break. I mean, just no matter, you know, we went forget to war. We went to battle and. and we brushed it. And so that's a bond. Like I said, you cannot break. And if it makes sense that she would do a plan, something like that. It is a, it is a fun fact for an early fun fact. That's actually how I met my wife, Daniel's on the same softball team with her and I, I was down the time. I just wanted go watch my support, my bro. The, yeah, I, next thing I know I was on the team. Yeah, there you go. The rest is history. Never looked back. Never looked back. All right. All right. So, uh, again, thank you to you, Brad. John. Sorry, Melissa. Sergio. It's okay. Wife saved me twice. My wife kept a secret. She did not blow it at all. She, he played it well, and uh, I know cause sometimes, you know, she does have a little bit of anxiety. And so like, I could imagine what she was going through inside. And like I said, it was an amazing night and I'm never gonna forget it. Thank you guys. You know how you got the, the ducks hat on Christmas? Yeah. So at, uh, the Jamel, um, I, we told her, I was like, Hey, make sure. put the hat like, and wrap it up in, you know, your jacket or something, and make sure you take it with you so he can wear it to the game. Like, oh yeah, shit, I, I'm replanting that. I was like, okay. So hat had no idea you guys were talking about that, like, did not even think about like, you guys were trying to keep something from me. Did not notice anything. So like I said, you guys played it well. All right, so you, uh, we ready to move on? I think. All right, so before we get into the New Year's topic, I just, uh, I've been reading a lot of dad jokes lately, and Danny's been having a kick, so I'm gonna read one. Let me know what you think. Let's see it fired away. All right, so first dad joke of 2023 on the board. Where does a spider seek health advice? Where does a spider seek health advice? Web M, web md, boom. There you go. You can't hear that. All right, so if you guys thank you, if you guys have any recommendation or no, any good dad jokes, please message us on Instagram at 42 6 podcasts and. Any, any really good ones, we'll definitely read on the air. So, and we'll give you credit. Send it away. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. I won't take credit At least not all the credit. All right, so John 2023, uh, man time's going by fast. So my first question, like, what does New Years mean to you? Um, that's a, that's a great question. to be honest with you, I would say it kind of just means, um, how do I word it? Uh, it just means, uh, not necessarily a, a new beginning, but just, um, reassessing, I guess. Okay. Would be a better, better way to say it. Um, just kind of taking a step back, looking at, you know, how the last year went and just kind of trying to set, see how it could improve for, you know, the next year to go and whatnot. I'm definitely not one of those people that try to go hardcore with like a New Year's resolution or anything. Like, I just look at them more as a kind of like a guideline of something I wanna kind steer towards. But um, yeah, I would say just, uh, just kind of taking a step back and reassessing. Yeah. Yeah. Kind like, I'm kind of like the same way like. first thing when I hear New Year's, you know, obviously the first thing that comes to mind is like new beginnings, like new goals, right? Um, something to like, uh, challenge yourself, um, for the upcoming year. Like how, how are you, how am I gonna be a better person of myself? And then, uh, but you know, leading up to New Year's Eve, I always, I always. Do a little self-reflection of like, of the year and like how it, how it went and, you know, at first, and it's, it's interesting cuz it's like going back a couple years ago, um, it was 2019 and New Year's Eve and it's just like something didn't sit right with me and I was just like, I had a bad feeling like something's gonna happen now. I didn't know a pandemic was coming. Right. It's, but you saying you called your shot and said No, but I'm just like, I have a bad feeling. This is gonna be like a, a weird year. So, um, yeah. So like, I'm, yeah, I'm looking forward to like 2023. Uh, the feeling I got are positive vibes. I was gonna say, and now after hearing that, I have to ask you how, what's your. So yeah. So, um, do you have any new resolutions? I know you say you're not big on'em, but, well, I Are Any like challenges? Yeah. I would say that that's a probably better term that I would use challenges. Okay. Um, I got five, but I mean tomato to model resolutions, challenges, whatever, however you wanna word it, but, so I got a couple. Um, one is what's one I definitely wanna. pay more attention to my health, both physically and mentally. Um, I mean, Daniel, you know that in the past like month or so, uh, my lower back went out, which I know I'm older, but I feel like that shouldn't really be affecting me as much. And I know it's due to the fact that I don't exercise. I mean, I, I have kids which kind of keeps me active at a certain point. Um, I definitely need to start, you know, working out and getting into better shape for my health wise and just to even keep up with my kids as they get older. They're gonna wanna run around more and play, you know, different games and stuff. And so I want to keep up with them where I can still play with them. Okay. Um, so, and then my mental health, uh, one of the things that I, did you wanna do one back and forth or just, do you want me to find out? Yeah. Well I figured we'd go one way back and forth. So is this like one together? So, uh, I mean health in general, so my physical health and then my mental health as well. Yeah, I mean that's important. I mean, obviously like you said, you know, you want to keep up with your kids and. kids have a lot of energy and like they don't get tired, so No, they do not. Yeah, So I kind of have, so like I was thinking about it cause I was like, well I could go, yeah, no, this is the year, this is the year where we're gonna, you know, lose a lot of weight, right? We're gonna lose, we're gonna do this, we're gonna do that. But I decided to keep these goals. Were 2023 simple. Um, I just wanna model like a healthy lifestyle for my kids to like, obviously like come dinnertime, eat, put a little more vegetables on my plate. Um, go after I don't drink soda. Um, but I just want to see them. I want them to see, yeah, I'm drinking his water. Right. Um, it's funny, it's like dad, he had some health issues. He, but he wasn't overweight. He, you know, he took Okay health to have of himself. Like, like he always like drank, like I always saw him drinking water. Right. Yeah. I always stood hydrated. So, um, I know there was probably you and I, no, there was probably a reason for that, but, Um, but basically, yeah, I just wanna, you know, like have a healthy lifestyle. I don't want them to see me on the couch on my phone or just on my couch watching tv. Uh, you know, I want them to see me like up and about moving. And again, I'm gonna try to dig by example. So it's kind of like we're in that same boat, uh, because you know, they are, you know, they're gonna mimic, kids are gonna mimic you. Oh yeah. Which just how they're, how they're wired. So like, you know, if dad's eating french fries, guess what they're gonna want to eat. Yep. They're gonna eat french fries if dad is on his iPad, well, I want to be on my iPad, you know, that looks like fun. Sign me up for that. So, um, so basically, you know, like I said, just uh, get up, get moving and you know, like I said, be by example with the good. you know, healthy diet and that's where I'm gonna start and then we'll go from there. I was just gonna say, I think that's like the best way to approach it cuz a lot of people that just say, oh yeah, I want to, whether it's drop a lot of weight or I want to go like, you know, get on this diet and start, you know, dropping the lbs. It's easy to say that, but I mean, when you go cold Turkey or if you just go deep. it's much easier to end up quitting on it because there's just such a big change. But when you do a simple change, like you said, like throw putting more vegetables on, on, on your dinner plate or stuff like that, then you, it's easier to accomplish and you can snowball with it, you know, build off of it. Right. So, yeah. So that's awesome. Okay, so what's another one you have on your list? Another one that I have is, um, this kind of goes. I guess a little more with the mental health, but, um, I am going to work on communication, uh, specifically with my wife. As far as Did she tell you to say that? I'm saying it? No, I'm joking. Uh, no. I mean, so the type of person I am is if I get to shorten, end the stick and, you know, I bite the bullet. I just do it if you know it. losing sleep if it means, you know, not eating as much. Cause like I gotta go take care of the kids, or something like that. Like that's, that I just kind of just say whatever and I just, you know, roll with it. And the bad part about that is it accumulates and then it, you know, explodes or it just has outbursts of sarcasm, anger, or anything like that. So I am definitely gonna try to communicate more when I need. That's something that I kind of do struggle with. I do like to just say, I'll do it, it's fine, and just move forward. But this year I'm gonna try to be a bit more vocal and just try to, you know, um, yeah, just communicate a little better. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, yeah. Communication's important in a relationship and. I don't wanna say guys, but just for like a lot of people I'll say, it's just, it's hard for them to open up a little bit and should be vulnerable or, you know, tell their spouses how they really feel about dumb things. So I think the, once you learn to do that, it becomes, yeah. So I, that's good. One that happens is, uh oh. Well it's just gonna start an argument. I'll just. You start Yeah. Doing something to avoid an argument. You don't wanna fight. Yeah. You avoid the fight, but sometimes bigger fight. It's important to get your op. Yeah. Um, so my next one is, I wanna take more pictures. You know, you, there you go. That's a good one. Talk. We talk about like how fast time is flying by and like, I, I was joking around, but it's like there's some truth. I was telling Layla at Christmas, um, I go, you don't realize like in about like nine, 10 years you could be living by yourself. Like you could be off to college in like another state and not be living with your mommy and daddy. And like, and really, like, that statement really got to her. It was like, like she had like a look of shock on her face. And I'm like, I'm not saying it's gonna happen. I'm like, you're just like, I'm saying you're gonna college but it's like you're, you're growing up so fast. That was my point. And you know, you think you're gonna remember every little detail. Like, you know, you take your kids to the park and you're like, wow, I've never for forget the look on their face on this, on, they're on their swing. But in reality, you know, you kind of do in a little bit, which kind of sucks. So, um, So, I mean, I might be, I'm gonna go in al mode, which is our sister, and try to take much pictures as possible and, uh, try to capture more things. Because that's one of the things too, I like looking back on, especially like on a, like a holiday, like I really bothers me. Like I didn't take any, like, I think I took like one or two pictures at c. So like life to like take more, looking back on it, you know? Cause again, too, you think about, oh, I'm never gonna forget this. It's Christmas. How can I forget this? But then like, do you know what you did 10 years ago on Christmas? Like Yeah. You know what I mean? So like, yeah. No, that's a good one. That's honestly one of my favorite things every morning is, uh, when my phone gives me the, the flashbacks and I program. or it has face recognition on, you know, my oldest son y Yeah. I'll say spotlight on so-and-so and it shows pictures from when they were babies all the way to like the, yeah. And it, I just, I love that. It's, I, I forget, like you said, there's memories in there that I remember what I see them, but I never think of it. Oh yeah, that's right. We did go there. Exactly. So yeah, that's a. Um, for me, another one is I do want to read more this year. I already have one book, book that I purchased. Um, so that's my first one that I want to try to conquer. And, you know, obviously me read more than just that one. But, um, I, I read, but I don't ever read like a book. I just read things, like things here and there that I find interesting. Um, I think reading a book is gonna kind of help get some structure to me and some like, and also just kind of set a goal for myself and go accomplish that goal. So what kind of book did you buy? Uh, it's uh, called, um, it's Psychology of Money. Okay. So, um, yeah, it's just kind of how people portray money and the different meaning it has and stuff like that. So most likely it's gonna be quite a few psychology books. Um, but yeah, yeah, I'm gonna do the same. I'm gonna try to read one book. I always buy books and I never finish'em. So this is the year where I'm gonna buy a book and I will finish it. Uh, not sure what I'm gonna buy yet. Uh, Danny has got her first Harry Potter book. This is the first. um, of the, of the series. And so I was thinking I could read hers, but I would like to buy a book for myself at some point and read it. So. Nice. Nice. Um, all right, so what else? I believe that was mine. Oh, okay. Read more books. So, yeah. So, um, I might take a class now. Okay. What kind. this might be like a pickleball class. Uh, there are some, uh, advanced classes for tennis. So thinking maybe like something like that. Um, not necessarily to learn a new skill, but just, uh, take a class. You know, like I said, it kind of goes into like being more active and so, right. One of the things, um, I did when Danny was, uh, I'd say about three. but I kind of got back into competitive tennis and she loved watching me play. So, um, yeah, I think I'm gonna do something, not competitive tennis, but like do something so where she can, her and Alex are like, witness me doing it. And that might motivate them to, you know, pick up something they want to do. So. Nice, nice. Okay. And do you have another one or are you. Um, so there's one that I haven't fully committed to. I'm probably going to venture into it. I'm not sure how long I'll stay with it, but mm-hmm. uh, it's kind of going along the lines of physical health, but, um, I was thinking about like, looking into yoga. Okay. Uh, I, I, not regular yoga or like, uh, pot yoga. What's, I'm sorry, what was that second one? Pot yoga. What's that? You don't know what hot yoga is? I do not. Oh my God. Actually I, this could, maybe, we can do this together. So like we can, uh, we can just create my class. You wanna do hot yoga together? So basically what it is, it's like a, it's, it's like a sauna yoga and like an sauna basically. Okay. So like, it's like a big room and obviously it's, I don't know how hot it is, but it's. right? And you are doing yoga and you're just sweating it out. Um, ah, so you work okay. Yeah. So, uh, sh Sherry and a couple of her friends did it, um, a few years ago. She liked it a lot actually. And then I have a buddy who I played tennis with and he's swerved by it. He's loving it. And uh, it was a thing in the seventies career. It was back then it was called Vikram Yoga. And this guy Vic, uh, came from India and basically it was a phenomenon throughout the United States. Now, the, the problem was, it's a documentary, I think it was on Netflix. But anyways, the problem was he stole this program and he was pawing it off as, as his own. And so it's a fascinating story, but so like a. places used to call this Vikram yoga, but then like once he was exposed, they kind of stopped calling him Vikram Yoga and it's now called Hot Yoga. Okay. You know what, I, I'm into that cuz uh, I'm not sure if he saw, but, um, you actually might wanna take a look at it. It's pretty interesting. Uh, you know the actor Chris Hems, Hemsworth Thor, the actor replaced Thor. Mm-hmm. He, uh, I guess recently he got diagnosed. his, uh, his genes. He has a higher risk of developing, uh, Alzheimer's. Mm-hmm. So he was looking to see what he could do to just kind of lead a more healthy life. Cause like, obviously what he mostly did for the movies was like bulk up and whatnot. But, um, they were saying like, if you do Asana, like, I think they were saying at least like three times a week or something. It. it definitely helps out with your, I believe it was the immune system. I could be mistaken. Yeah. But it was that. And then also, here's a helpful tip for all the listeners. Um, doing like a, ideally an ice bath for like 30 seconds every day, or at least like four days out of the week, that helps with your, um, that I wanna say, that one definitely helps with your immune system cuz it gives your nerves a shock and it kind of keeps them on, on its. But if you don't have, you know, a, a place to do an ice bath every day, they were saying when you take a shower, um, the last 30 seconds, just have it on cold water. Only let that hit your body and let that be the shock that it gives you. And you'll, uh, you'll see I, they did a study that like, um, there's like a, I wanna say people that were going to work like sick days, they. 35% less sick, less sick days or something like that. So, um, yeah, I would say it's on Disney plus. Look it up. There's, there's some good, good tips in there on that. But I like my sick days, I like to use them. Makes me feel better about myself. You can use sick days and not be completely sick. You can kind of feel sick. No, but like seriously though, like I would probably be open during like a hot yoga. Well, no. Yeah, that's why the sauna, I, I, I kid you not. Yeah, I literally told my wife I was. Hey, is it Cofi? Buy sauna? I was like, what do you mean? I looked it up on Amazon. They actually have personal saunas that you could buy that's like a portable sauna to set up the house. That's not like a whole room or anything like that. How much was it? They range, but the temperature that I would need it at, they didn't get that hot. Okay. So, um, okay. So yeah, we'll look into that and then, uh, that'll be awesome. We'll kill two birds with one stone. There we go. Knocking off this list already. And my last one is basically I want to start a new family tradition. I don't know what it is. I don't know when, but I want to start something so we can like look forward to like every year. So not to put you on the spot or are you talking about just your immediate family or Like with me and Mel, our families. Oh, I was thinking my immediate family. But now that you think of. You guys wanna surprise me every year to a D game. I'm all for that. No, but that'd be fun. Me and you, Mel, do something. Yeah. Uh, maybe like, it's like breakfast, like every month or something. Once a month? Yeah. Or like a go, like on a hike, right? No, I mean, I, I'm down for whatever. Yeah. So they can do both. Check my schedule, they can get the families together and do a, a new tradition. We do like a park day. There you go. Yeah. Those are fun growing up. Yeah. I mean, even at, uh, at Alex's birthday, just having that with ball bat and just had the kids playing the playground. Uh, well, I mean, others talk about like the family vacation this summer, but you know, right. You did one this year, so maybe that could be a new family tradition. All right, so like if you. if you have any of New Year's resolutions of your own, um, let us know what it is and, you know, we will, um, maybe we can help if, if we can, but was there anything else you want to add on this topic, John? Mm, nope. Um, I, I was just saying, yeah, like what, what we, what we talked about earlier, that you guys have any used resolution, you really wanna stick it stick through. Don't. don't swing for the fences, get on base and work your way that way. And obviously that's the best way to go. Best route. Just just keep it simple. And again, it's all about being the best possible person you can be, though. You can be a better father, right? Yeah. Like if it, even if it's just one little thing that you did better that you didn't do last year. Yeah. You're already. All right. So again, you can follow us at four two doaks at Instagram and lemme see is there anywhere else they can follow us? Uh, follow us. Yeah. Um, that's it, right? That's about it. Yeah, right now. That's about it. Yeah. Let me, you can always email us. Yeah. Two six gmail.com. All right. Uh, John, you want to give us a fun back before we, this one is gonna come in a form of a question. So I got a question for you, Dan. Out of all the United States, uh, or in the United States, all the states, all the names, there's one letter in the alphabet that is not in any of the states of the United States. Can you think of which letter that is? Um, Curious how many people listening's got this like quickly? Is it Z? No. Huh? Although I will say the Z is only used once. What is it used for? Arizona. Ah, yes, Okay. What is it? Okay. Well there's also one other letter that's only used once and that's. New Jersey. New Jersey. Oh, okay. The one letter that's not in any of the state's names is Q. Oh, okay. Fun fact. There you go. There you go. Perfect. Excellent. And on that, we're gonna end this podcast episode. Thank you. We will be back next week and it should be a weekly thing from here on out. So, uh, that's one more new resolution. There you go. from John. And I thank you for listening and don't go change it.
