Be Kind To Other
Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Four Two Dad Takes podcast. I am Daniel. And here with me as always is John. John, how's it going? Hello? Hello everyone. Uh, it's going pretty good. Um, got a little rain today, so that was not bad cuz soon it's just for like an hour or two. We got, uh, yeah. Of a day like at. End of the day rather than the beginning. Right? No. Yeah. It definitely would've been, uh, much worse if it was in, when you're first taking your kids to school and stuff like that. So yeah, I enjoyed it. How's the, actually was running a lot this weekend. It was kind of crazy. Yeah, like nonstop rain. It was just like, I don't even think it, it stopped on Saturday. It didn't seem like it. No. Nah. What'd you guys deal? Indoor activities us on Saturday. Well, how's your weekend? Start there So, uh, yeah, so the weekend was pretty good. Um, stood in a lot since we had a lot of rain going on. Um, a lot of just, uh, I mean, we have a little trampoline in our back room, so the kids playing with that. Um, Did puzzles with the kids, did some coloring, drawing. Um, had a, had a movie of popcorn and stuff. Uh, so our youngest, who will be in two days, uh, today's, uh, 19. So yeah, about two days or 2, 2 3 days. It is gonna be 11 months. And he's taking his first couple steps already, which is awesome. That's exciting. Yeah, so we've been working with him with that. he's, uh, he's ready to run. He just wants to go. He, he doesn't even wait to get his balance. But yeah, so that was pretty much, you know, our weekend. Um, right before the weekend though, I think it was on Thursday, Thursday night, we went to the LA Zoo Lights. We, um, wanted to get in there before the rain came and stuff. And, uh, that was awesome. That was awesome. You went this year. Yeah, I was a little disappointed. Uh, we first went like, I think in 2019, maybe 18, and uh, it was really center around Christmas and it was pretty cool, but I feel like every year they kind of went away from it. And this year I didn't see any Christmas theme, but you know, they did sell hot chocolate. Did you get one? Yes, we got a hot chocolate. We tried their donuts. Did you get. No, I did not. I didn't know the, you can get with Bailey's. Yeah, you can get it with Bailey's or, uh, peppermint shops. Oh. Along, along with the chro. So, but yeah, we got a churro and the dogs, but the kids had an amazing time. They, they loved it. I mean, that's what it comes down to, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It was awesome. Definitely. Next to though, we're gonna go to the uh, um, Dale Speedway. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I been wanting to go there and, you know, looking off the freeway, it looks amazing. So, uh, Sharon and I were gonna get tickets for next year. What exactly is there? I'm Danny's excited. What is it? Is it just like a drive-through of lights or? No, that's what I thought. So it always looked good at me, but I'm. uh, you know, it's like, it's a drive through and, you know, it's probably gonna be, we're probably gonna be done like in 10 minutes. Right. But, um, no, it's, you, you actually park and you walk around the, the track. Okay. And I think they have some, like other stuff like leading up to the track too. So there's different like places like to take pictures and check out some stuff. So it seems pretty cool. So we're gonna go next year. Awesome. Awesome. Well, yeah, Christmas is officially over, so it's, that was another thing we did this past weekend. We took down all the inside Christmas decorations, trees down, put away. So the house is looking pretty plain. Shout out to, uh, my, my beautiful wife. She, uh, I came up from work one day and, uh, everything was taken down. the tree, the decorations, and yeah. So I was Wow. Real thankful for that. So, nice, nice. I'll kick my coverage on that one. what about you? How was your guys' weekend? Well, Saturday back to work at the Chosen Center. Then, uh, did some errands actually after work and then came home, spent time with the kids. uh, we, well, their favorite game is to play hide and seek outside. Obviously that could not happen this weekend because of the rain. Right. So we actually did it inside the house. There you go. And I was trying to get them to, my daughter has a fear of, uh, of the dark right now. So I was trying to get over trying to conquer her fear, and I was like, let's turn off these lights and. my goal was to get the whole house dark, like hide and seek in the dark inside the house. But, but yeah, uh, that was a no go. But it was fun. You know, we had a, we had a fun time, uh, playing that Saturday night. So were you guys each gonna have like a flashlight or just it was in the dark, you had to find each other? No, each have to, you know, uh, someone Hoover was, it went to the front door and that was the safe spot. And you catch a hundred and every. you pick your best hiding spot and do what happens, you know, what might, what might help out with that, if you were to try that again? Uh, order some of those, uh, glow stick, like necklaces and bracelets. Mm-hmm. And that way it's not completely dark or it seems like more fun. I think we have. That's, there you go. But I think we have some of those. So, I mean, next time we're definitely, I know we have some in the rv, so, but on Sunday, It was a little awkward because as you know, my, my Buffalo Bills played against, uh, Miami Dolphins and the Wild card playoffs, and Mom is a big Dolphin fan, so we decided to, but she is get together. She was house sitting and babysitting for our sister and brother-in-law. So I went to their house and. it was a lot closer than I was anticipating with the Bills one. It was, they'll play the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday, which is gonna be a really thriller, I think it's gonna be a closed game back and forth, and pretty cool that they're gonna be playing each other after a couple weeks. They, um, what just happened, right? Uh, with Ham, so, To be at the game. So that's gonna motivate the crowds gonna motivate the players. So hopefully, uh, that'll be, yeah, hopefully they can win. Is it infancy? No, it's at Buffalo. It's in Buffalo. Okay. Yeah. And I believe if the Chiefs were to wind, that means next week's game will be at a neutral site, which I think they said it was gonna be Atlanta. Oh, okay. So, Yeah, it should be fun. So, uh, but yeah, and actually it was a funny story. You know, I'm easily considered the fun uncle of all the nieces and nephews, and so that's not accurate. They, they were, uh, all the, all the cousins, uh, my kids were trying to get me to go upstairs and they got me upstairs and they wanted to do like a pillow. but they locked me in the, this room, they barricaded the door and I couldn't get out. So what I did was I saw my goddaughter, uh, which is Don's niece. I saw her iPod on the bed. So I took the iPod and I'm like, if you want this back, you're gonna have to open the door and you try to get us. I put in my pocket, okay. And. I don't know what I was thinking. Put it in my pocket. Continue putting the pillow, throwing, doing the pillow. Fight with dev, the kids. And then I actually, a few minutes later, escaped went downstairs and I'm thinking, okay, I'm home free. I'm not going back upstairs and thought my plan was work. I outsmarted a bunch of kids. uh, talking with my sister and my brother-in-law who at the time just got back from Vegas and was asking about their trip and having a conversation. Now I'm kind of like playing with the kids in the living room and so about like an hour goes by and, okay, we're gonna wrap it up cuz you know, technically Sunday's a school night, right? Right. And so go home, we unload the car. and because the kids have been in the house all weekend, the house is a little bit of a mess. So my wife and I power through and, and we start cleaning and then I get a phone call. It's my brother-in-law and I, hello. And actually it's not my brother-in-law, it's Layla. And she's like, uh, excuse me sir, you might wanna check your pocket. And I'm like, why? And she's like, just do it. And at the point I actually did not even hit me. What just happened? And I checked my pocket in there. It is her ipo, her iPod in my pocket You stole. And so I had to drive back actually. So I think the way the kids were hyper and the cleaning going around, my wife was like, no, no, no. You're gonna stay and clean and watch your kids. I'm. take the drive back and give her her iPod. So that's what happened. So um, I was clean in the kitchen trying to, the kids occupied. Jerry went de poured herself some coffee, took a nice piece of drive back and, uh, returned the iPod. So, funny story, but if you don't know, like we live like a good, like, I don't know, what do you say, John? Five minutes away from each other. That's with no traffic. I would say maybe 35 minutes, give or take. If there's any traffic, you're looking at 45 to higher. But um, yeah, I imagine around that time of the night, probably not too much traffic. Yeah. So, but yeah, that's the a one way. That's one way. Not even round trip that's one way. Yeah, well she was actually, I would say she was probably home. I'll put it this way. She left right at halftime of the Bengals Ravens game, and she was back maybe with like three, four minutes left before the game. I'll be so pissed off if I, if I was her No, it's actually, well, you think about it, it was kind of like a break, right? That's the way we, we, we, that's the way we both saw it because that's why I thought I was. I'm like, I just actually hit the lottery. Not at the lottery, but I just, I'm actually home free. I don't, uh, the kids are hyper. There's chores that have to be done in the house. I'm gonna take a nice peaceful drive back to Chino Hills, maybe have a drink or two and then I had to get gas Baby Exactly. Um, I would've hit a drive-through, but we actually got dinner. on our way back home. So, but yeah, it was, yeah. So no, but Sherry, I think Sherry was like, she cut on pretty quick. She was like, no, I'm going. You can stay. And she came home to a clean kitchen. So that's a fact. So, yeah. And, and you're the fun uncle. Is, is that what we're supposed to take away from this story? Bingo, He's still from your, from your God. And you tried to bri to get outta plane with them? It's funny. Just play with them. Start swinging because when she said, check your pocket, I'm like, okay. What? Like, I honestly had no idea. There wasn't like Oh man. Like I just, and it wasn't until like I literally had to like feel what was in my pocket and I'm like, oh yeah, that's not my phone. So, But um, yeah, I mean it was a fun, fun little weekend. Uh, capped it off. I mean, I just think it was pretty cool. Cause on Friday night your kids got to spend time with them, right? Cuz they spent the night at your house. Yeah. So Friday night. Yeah. Uh, we asked mom to come, uh, watch the kids and that's when she told me she was house. Sit in babysitting, uh, Sergio Mel's kids and so, She asked like, what if we come over and spend the night? I was like, yeah, that could work. Mm-hmm. And so they came over. She watched the kids, uh, Brits, coworkers. They had, uh, they wanted to go catch a Ducks game, so we went to a Ducks game. They lost in New Jersey. They got owned by New Jersey. They, it wasn't a, a loss. It wasn't, that was. It wasn't their night. I saw they actually had some good shots on the powerplay, so I was watching a little bit of the game that night and uh, they were getting good shots. They just weren't going through on some of their powerplays. They're just passing way too much. I know they're looking for the right opportunity, but at a certain point you just gotta make the goalie work. You gotta throw some pucks on them. Um, but I was talking to a. one of my wife's coworkers, husbands who, he's, he's a Ducks fan too. And I mean, we were, we were both just kind of, this is what we expected. They're a young team. Some of the passes, some of the defensive, you know, mistakes they're making. It's just being young and learning. They're, they're, they're just a young team learning, so I expect them about a year or two. They'll definitely be, you know, a young competitive team. Yeah. But, uh, I mean, I'm loving how many ducks game I've been going to, and I definitely want to go to a couple more. I wanna take, uh, my oldest son to the Ducks game. I think he's gonna love it. Have a blast. Yeah, I was thinking like, I think Danny would like it, Alex, I think, I don't think he's at the age, but like comprehend like what exactly is going on, but I think Danny would, would definitely like, um, have a good time. So we should definitely set that up. Yeah. I know they got some pretty cool games coming up. Like they're, I know Colorado's coming, um, Colorado. It's hard, hard, I would like to see because, uh, several of the games are during the week and we won't get home until like 10, 10 10, like after 10 o'clock and it's a school night. So that's why, uh, I've been trying to look at games that are like on Fridays or potentially Saturday or something like that. I would like to see, uh, let's. the New York Islanders. Uh, I don't think, I think they already played Boston, right? Or is Boston coming? I think Boston already came. I think they played Boston, right? Well, yeah, they might play Boston in Boston. Cause I know they just did a West coast tour, right? Uh, this, uh, past week or so. But they may have played Boston in Boston, which I think they already, uh, played one game home over here. Okay. So, all right. So anything else you wanna add about the weekend? Uh, the weekend, not so much, but, uh, this week I dust off my Oculus, which I haven't used in probably about a year, pretty much, uh, since my newborn has been born. Um, and I started working out with it again. Uh, happy. It's kind of sad how much outta shape I am, but that's the first step as far as getting back into shape. So, uh, this week I've actually been, you know, doing some exercise and yeah, I, I felt some burn, felt, some soreness. Uh, and plus luck is just an awesome thing. It's so, so much fun. Very cool. He has a good workout too. Good. Good luck with that. Um, I think I tried it once. That didn't work out, but it was, I think I played ping pong or something and that was pretty fun. So yeah, we were outside and the, it's needs a certain, like, dates of light ratio if you're, it's meant to be inside, it's not meant to be outside, but, um, next time you come over you could try it out and it's, it's a lot of fun. Yeah, that's gonna be probably Saturday where. First game night of 2023, so it should be fun. Yep. I'm gonna need your help though, like I think one of the game nights and hear me out. Let's just, what do you think poker night for fun? Or do you guys, you may be surprised to hear this, but Brit was actually essentially like maybe one of the nice VD poker night. She's like, you're how to play? And I was like, yeah. I was like, half of the games, just knowing what the hands are, what hand beats what hand. But yeah, I, I, I know Daniel's in for it. I don't know about Sherry Mel, but, um, yeah, no, I'm definitely down to, to have a poker night. Yeah. Do it. Maybe, uh, maybe we can like pitch in and buy like a nice bottle of wine or something. That could be like the, the Ram prize or something. I don't know. But yeah, it should be fun. Yeah. Okay. Tonight's topic since last week. We talked about like trying to, coming up with goals for 2023 on how to be a better versions of ourselves. I've, uh, thought we can stay on that track and actually came across an article, um, a couple days ago and, these are, these are acts that families can do together. Um, you know, just basically doing good Ds, you know, being a good role model setting, um, you know, teaching our kids that it's not impossible to be a good person to go out there and, um, no. Spread the wealth, you know, uh, you know, pay it forward as, as they, as they, as they say. sometimes. So what do you think, John? Like, have you guys talked to your kids or like done like a good deed for like strangers in the past? Um, I mean, yes, we've talked about it. Um, we've mentioned about, you know, just sharing in general, but also if you know, you do something nice for someone else. Don't always expect something in return. Sometimes just it's good to do something else for someone else. Um, one of the things that we did, I think it was last year or two years ago, um, it was through Britt's work. We went to, uh, It was somewhere in Orange County, I believe. But, um, we went to plant trees at a park. We took the kids Nice. And, um, that was something that was pretty, pretty labor factor and, but, uh, it was a, it was awesome. Uh, it was cool to be outside with, with the kids digging in a little, planting the tree and moving on the next one. So it was, it was awesome. And Danny, who was. Upset with us. Cause I think it was like one Saturday on in November. And um, she wanted to just start going around the neighborhood where we live and asking for can go, you know, give to people like the homeless people basically. That's awesome. And, uh, and we're like, well, we, we could do that or we could make like a, a package. But you know this, she wanted to stick to her original idea and so, she was a little bit heartbroken, but yeah, we just, you know, we try to, to teach, just teach her basically just to be a good person, you know, treat, do well to others and lead by example. So, uh, so here are some tips, um, or some suggestions that you can do, you know, with their kids and, you know, they might have a good time. They might like it, and I think it sets a good example. Okay. So number one is you can thank your local firefighters and police officers by surprising them with, you know, homemade cards or homemade treats. Um, oh, fun. Back rewind real quick. Going back to, um, driving back out to my sister's house, uh, it did, uh, Sherry was able to, she went back to pick up. She and she also brought back two, um, gifts that were, uh, given to my sister for my kids. So she came back with presents. So, and one of'em was a cookbook for kids, and my daughter loves it. And she actually, her first recipe she did, uh, the other night, and it made a homemade cake, um, with homemade frosting. Delicious. Nice. So, Yeah. So she's like in a big, uh, she's real big on cooking right now. She wants to make her own breakfast, she wants to make dinner for the family. So this was like a perfect gift. And so, so yeah. So it's something we might be able to do. My, we bake some treats and then, uh, you know, we have the ch date should h a p. Um, around the corner we have public safety office. other side the corner. So this is, that's very, yeah, the fire department just right there on telegraph. Yeah. There you go. Um, this one I've always wanted to do, but I'm a little, I always chickened out because I don't want to get hook for a ridiculous bill. But it says in, um, in line, at the drive-through, you could pay the person's bill right behind. and just tell the, the, you know, worker that, you know, you'll pick up the tab. So i's something I've heard about, um, I've never experienced it, or I've never, no one's ever picked up my, my bill. But I think now that I see this, I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna, one time this month, if I'm at Starbucks, I'm going to pull the trigger. This, so let me, let me. give you what I've heard on this one, Okay. Um, someone I used to work at for Starbucks for years, they posted, um, people paying it forward for buying the drinks or the, you know, paying the bill for the people behind them. it is more chaotic than, you know, helpful. I guess. It somehow can help mess up the orders and it can just kind of throw a wrench in their rotation and stuff. So they said that, he said that, um, the people there online getting Starbucks, they anticipated to, you know, buy it. They have the money for it though instead of paying it forward or whatever, you're gonna pay for the people behind you. use it as a tip for the baristas for the people working there that are, you know, that rely on the tips to, you know, pay bills and stuff like that. So I thought that was a pretty interesting, it's just interesting point on, well, on that pay forward. Well, he, he kind of went off script. They took number five. So hope, hope you're proud of yourself. Um, number five, about tips or what? Yeah, so this one is, number three, tape coupons to a different product around the grocery store. Um, you know, parents, you know, everyone in family's on a budget, so if you're come across a coupon and, you know, you can't use it, but maybe someone else can, uh, you know, maybe you might tape that, keep coupon onto that product and hopefully, um, you know, someone in need could, could use it, could benefit from. Alright. And that was a creative one. Would you use it if you came across that at the store? Um, I mean, if it was on the one that I was gonna grab, I mean, why not? I mean, if it's taped, then yeah, like, oh, just keep on here for it here. But, um, the thing I would worry about on that is if the workers are gonna just take it off way to be positive. I'm way to be positive. I'm just saying being realistic. Oh. Um, number four. Um, and there's one we can relate to cuz John and I, we didn't grow up with the watcher dryer, I think. Um, so we were always at the laundromat, like maybe like every Sunday. Yeah. And uh, it was every week, once a week. So obviously, you know, one time maybe you can just go and, well, this might be tricky cuz they don't use quarters anymore. This one says handout quarters at the laundromat. Um, I don't know, but I do know the, some laundromats now use cards. So maybe like load of card and then you see a family that can benefit from, you know, like five bucks, you know, that goes towards the laundry. And that might go a long way. Yeah. Yeah. So I think that's, that's a good one. I like that one. Uh, okay, number five. This is something John was just saying a minute ago. Uh, thank you notes to people like your, uh, favorite barista who will always get your order right, or, you know, you who you know, or any like, uh, person that you know, that you come across to, and, you know, they're working very hard. um, you know, thank you. Note goes a long way. I thank you. Note Um, one comes to mind though, I was, I remember working at Disneyland and it was just one of like, it wasn't anything special. It was like middle of the week and was working the late shift trying to, just trying to work hard so I can, like, the time will go by faster and, um, this family. I just kept going back to them and asking what they want and I can do, and they left and they left like this. They wrote a note on the napkin and on their way out they handed it to me and walked away. And it basically said that my services and my positive energy really, um, helped and improved their, uh, their day, they're night at Disneyland. Uh, and they're really thankful. They're sorry that they couldn't leave me a tip, um, cause they couldn't really afford one. But, uh, the fact that I went outta the way to like, make sure they, they were okay, they were set up, really meant a lot to them and they were always gonna remember that. And so that was pretty cool actually. Yeah. So like really, I always still think about that. So, So, yeah, so you know, a little thank you note. I know it's not money, it's not cash. Something they can, you know, valuable that they can use. But you know, those thank you notes really do go a long way. Um, I mean, to be honest with you, several of my past jobs have been in like customer service, uh, area of dealing with people. And even when people just, it's not a note, but they just like tell me, Hey, thank you so much. You know, you really helped me, or blah, blah, blah. You did this. Again, like you said, it's not money, but it feels good. Makes me feel happy that I was able to help someone or have that effect, that positive effect on somebody. So yeah, I would say that that definitely goes, goes a long way. Um, to get back to the point of where you said that kind of talked about, number five, the whole Starbucks thing, what's your take on that? What do you. about either paying it forward for the people behind you or just use that money instead of tip the Persis? Um, I mean, once in a while I'll tip on the app cause that's what I usually do. Um, but I've never done, I've never paid for the person behind me. That's something, like I said, I've always been curious. I've always wanted to try again. I don't wanna be like, oh, I want to pay for the car behind me and oh, 20,$30 order, and I'm like, oh, wasn't expecting that. Um, so yeah, it's something I've always wanted to try, but it's just, I, like I said, I haven't pulled the trigger. Um, but yeah, once in a while I'll, I'll, you know, I'll, I'll tip the, especially around the holidays, um, I'll also, I'll, I'll tip. Gotcha, gotcha. I guess I was asking more just what did you think, I guess the former employee, the former barista, what his stance on it was like, you shouldn't, you shouldn't buy the the cars behind behind'em. No, because they were anticipating of, you know, buy it. You should instead say, like for example, you were gonna say, Hey, here's$20, put it towards the car behind me. And instead of doing that with, it did do to. put that 20 towards the tip jar. Oh. Um, it goes, I mean, it goes both ways. We can't go wrong. Um, it all depends on like what, what I want to do. Um, I have no problem with either or, to be honest. Um, right. I don't really see, I, I, I understand like his point of view as far as like that buying with a person's coffee behind me. Throw off something or it might be an inconvenience, um, as far as like ringing them up or maybe they're affecting their, their, their time stance on drive crew. But, you know, my goal is to do something good, whether it's for the person behind me or the barista. I don't the much of a difference, to be honest. All right. Yeah, that's fair. What's number six? Okay. Okay, hold on. Okay, well number six says, uh, tape up inspiring notes inside their dressing room because when it comes to trying to close with full body mirrors, if with in full rest alliance everyone can use a vote of confidence, um, actually like that one a lot. Do you? Okay. I wasn't really sure. I was actually thinking about Skipp. Um, no, I like that one. Cause I'm not gonna lie. If you were in, okay, just put, put yourself in that situation. You go in to try a shirt or your pants on and you're kind of like, oh, I, I kind of like it. I don't, and then you look and you see a notes that says like, you look great in that it's gonna leave a positive effect into you. Actually it came across something, uh, like a video the other day. I think it was a teacher. I don't know where. Um, it's from. it basically has a wall and it has like a bunch of like, um, positive message and it makes the class lines up and they have to point to how they're feeling or they, how they want to feel that day. And I'm like, oh, that's pretty cool. You know, it gives the kids a little self-confidence, a little positive energy I'm always for, so I can see how this, that's kind of similar, so I kind of, I can see how the two relate. Um, I don't know if me personally would be able to like come ever do this. I'm not sure if it's like realistic, but I could see how definitely like, you know, like, like I said, and it goes back to like the whole note writing and how under, I think it's underestimated because it's not cash, it's not a gift card, doesn't have any value, but you know, like, uh, words can go a long way. They can be real powerful. Well, they are real powerful, but they are, it could be. Negative or it can be really positive. So, uh, just remember that, you know, everything has to be about money or the value of something. Um, take a friend out to lunch or you know, take someone that means you know, lot to you out to lunch. Um, I could see this, you know, you, you like, maybe you're thinking of somebody and you want to enjoy their company and you know, you invite them to a meal or have bought'em to your house and make something. So, um, and I think this is kind of like how we're, we're doing this weekend. You know, we want to get together now and doesn't, there's no one's birthday, there's no holiday. It's just, you know, us wanting to get the family together. So we're doing. a little game night. So it's something, you know, like we're looking forward to and that I'm sure the kids are looking forward to cuz they get to spend time with their cousins and run around the house. And so yeah, it's gonna be fun. And then the last two, this one I actually do like and I think I would want, want to try it, write a diaper change care package and leave it in a public. Because at some point an unprepared mom or dad will be in need of a diaper wipes or something. Um, obviously people clean the bathrooms all the time. So, um, that's what my thought was. Maybe we can, we can like leave a note of what you did and why you did it, but Yeah, I kind of think it's pretty cool. Um, I dunno, what do you think? I like the thought behind it, but, um, yeah, that, that's what my thought went to is the, the custodial, the janitor crew that go in there. At the end of the day, I'm pretty sure they're just gonna look at it as like, okay, I gotta, whatever's on the counter, I gotta take off. I gotta throw in the trash or I gotta dispose of, um, I mean, also you don't know if it becomes like a hygiene thing. Like if one person does something to the diapers, grand. I'm not saying that someone would, but there's people out there. think things are funny then that or not. So, uh, I like the idea maybe twisted something like maybe we go to like, um, maybe I turned it up, like maybe like you and the family can put a care package for like homeless people, you know what I mean? Like a little goody bag with like toothbrush, toothpaste, some snacks, you know, whatever. and go around and, uh, you know, hand them out to, to people. Um, I forgot what party it was, but we, we hosted a party and there was like a ton of food left over and Sherry and I just were like, you know what, let's just make these same individual meals and we'll go around and we'll give'em a set to peop the homeless people. And every one of'em was real thankful. Um, and so, you know, I think that's something, you know, you guys, you know, someone can do instead of doing the dapper package in the public bathroom, maybe pivot and go a different route. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. All right. And last one. Um, and again, too, same thing. This is kind of like similar to what I just said actually. Um, next time there's a sale on canned goods, but you buy some extra and then you can do donate. to a local food bank. I know everyone around, like when they're kids at school. Um, and they have like the, the canned goods parents do get a little overboard and crazy and, which is a good thing. It's not a bad thing, but you know, it's something that's done all year round, not just around the holidays and Thanksgiving. So, um, yeah. So, you know, that's a good idea. Um, look out for those sales and you see a good one, dock up, and then you can maybe pass it out. You know, find out where your local food bank and head on over there and maybe drop off a package. Sounds good. Awesome. These are all great ideas. Yeah, yeah. Again, too, I think it's like, you know, you, best thing you can do as a dad I think, or parent just in general is you lead by. you know if you're gonna, right. Yeah. So like if you, for instance, if you're going to sit around and eat french fries and watch tv, that's what your kids are gonna do. They're going to model you. And you know, if you're going to the way you talk to people, they're gonna pick up on that and they're gonna be like, oh, that's okay, that's okay. How to talk to people, how to treat people. So, um, and the world can always use a po positive energy. So, um, I think that's something we can teach our kids. Definitely. Definitely. Yeah. Anything else you wanna add or are you good? Uh, no, I think that that covered it. That covered it? Yeah. All right. Okay. So before we go back to our favorite segment, dad draft, um, I got a joke for you, John. It's your dad's here. Okay, so think last one. I used the, the cal one, right? I believe so, yeah. Okay. Oh, D, where did I write it? Hold on one second. Okay. All right. You ready? Yes, sir. What did the blanket say to the bed when it fell off? What did the blanket say to the bed when it fell off? Um, no idea. Oh, sheet So there, it's, but um, that's your dad joke. There you go. All right. I like it. I like it. So, so this is it. This is a return after probably like a couple months, um, bringing back Dad draft. If you're, uh, John, have you ever won this before? I have won, uh, yes, I have won. I've tied several times, times I've won, uh, at least once. John has never won. Um, came close. That's. Yeah, it is. Check the records. Check the records. I did, I did. I went back. Right now you just checked the record and you have not won a, you tied a couple. I tied several times. One. One. You've had, you do have big, you had big leads. You've had big leads, okay. But you couldn't close, so John's still looking for his first win. Gotta come eventually. Okay. First win in 2023. You are correct on that. All right. So, um, all right. How do we decide who gets a first drink? Mm. Do you have a coin here? I don't have a coin, but I have my phone on the couch. Hold on. Let me see. Screen up or screen down. All right. Okay, so I have a coin. I'll let you call it. Head your tails. Okay, we'll go tails. It is tails. There you go. Do you want the first pick or do you want the second pick? Uh, you know, I'll go to, I'll go second pick. Okay. Surprising actually. Um, okay, so what, so this, what is this, uh, dad draft on? Oh, sorry. Yeah, you're right. This is the one I've been thinking about. This is when I first started, when I first started dad draft this topic was the first one that come to mind. Um, so I'm a little excited to be honest. It's TV dads. Now this could be any character in a TV series that either was her dad or became a dad as their character. So are you with me? Yep. Okay, so make sure I got the concept. Okay. So top five DP dash. So John, I go first. I'm gonna go ahead and give you the next two picks and then we'll go from there. Okay? Okay. Because before, what we did in the past was like I give you the first pick, I take the second, then you take the third four. So, um, I figured to give you a better shot. I'm, we'll do like a snake draft. We've done snake draft in the past. We've done safe John back, but I changed it out to give you. A, a fighter's chance, but obviously it didn't work. So we'll go back to the original format. All right, so when I first thought about this, uh, topic back when we were thinking about the podcast, I was like, what TV dad would I want to be? Like, who would I want to, like, if I could pick one dad of role model, who would it be? And. it was kind of an easy one because he came to mind pretty quick and no one can could take that away and no one can beat him. So I'm gonna go with do Dumpy, the Modern Family. Oh, that's a good one. That's a great pick. Uh, summon, um, we're setting the core, we're saying the foundation of this team, and so he's gonna be like the quarterback, the anchor of my team, and. I'm very confident that this could be over already. Okay. Okay. So I'm gonna take a different approach. Uh, comedy is key with, uh, with comedy you can still learn lessons. So the first dad that I'm gonna go with this is gonna be Al Bundy. Interesting. Good old Al Bundy. Well, Kai Hall of Fame, four touchdowns in one game. Best show is Salesman I've ever seen. That's right. That's right. Uh, okay. The second dad, um, and this is probably biased because I've rewatched the series, but, uh, Alan Matthews from Boy Meets World, oh, he was a. He was, he was, honestly, yeah. I think he was a underrated, uh, character in that show. He was tough, but fair. He was, and he was funny. Oh man. What was his last name? Good. Matthews Matthews. Alan Matthews. Oh, yeah. Mr. Matthews. The Matthews that was, uh, the principal. Right. All right. Um, So obviously growing up we were big fans of T G I Friday. That was like the mm-hmm. That was the Netflix back in the nineties. Right. So that's what we did every Friday. So I had to go with, I had to go with the TV dad from, from that lineups up. So I'm gonna go with Danny Tanner, Mr. Clean. Okay. Yeah. I mean, it wasn't it pretty interesting that after the series over and we grew out, her, you find out like what kind of like comic he was as far as like telling dirty jokes and stuff. which was kind of like a surprise, but, uh, yeah, he was, he was pretty cool, dad. And I mean, raising three girls, that's pretty tough. So yeah. On your own, Okay. Um, liking where this draft is going. I feel like I'm pretty good. This one. So we just finished this series, um, this past year and. Watching this deck kind of reminded of our dad what kind of person he was. And so have you ever seen the, the show? This Is Us. This Is Us. It sounds familiar. It was on channel four. It's a great series. Um, talk about it really goes through like a bunch of different types of family issues and, um, This is probably one of like the best dads, um, TV dads that I've, I've, I've seen and is, uh, Jack P. Peterson. It's, uh, Pearsons, sorry, Jack Pearsons. And, um, yeah, if you ever haven't watched that show, I would highly recommend it. Um, it's, like I said, it's Sherry and I, it was like Sherry and I don't have a show where we're watching every new episode. and this series, and nine o'clock on, I think Thursdays. We were in front of the TV watching, um, this series. So, uh, I miss it. But yeah, Alta and Dad, backpack Pearsons. There might have been one that, um, my wife watched that I would catch here and there while she was watching it, but it doesn't sound familiar. All right, Johnny, get the next few picks. Next two. All right. Well, I'm gonna go with, um, someone had a little more authority behind them. uh, let's go with, um, Phillip Banks. Oh, okay. Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He, he was always, he was a, a great, you know, father role model when watching that. I think he's best known for Uncle Phil, though. That's, that's where, and run into trouble. Oh, well, he's still a dad. He was only uncle to one person on the show. The big guy, the several other characters. He was the dad. All right. And then this one, uh, I feel like everyone knows him. Everyone loves them. Mr. Homer Simpson. I knew you were gonna pick that. That's why I stood away from it. Man, Nick, the legend. Okay. Uh, yeah, I had a feeling you were gonna go with that one. So I kind of like stood clear and gave them to you. You're welcome. Gave them to me. Okay. Though this one could be a little bit controversial. just for the fact that he, he became a dad like midway through the series and it didn't really tackle him as a dad, but in a way it kind of did because it was really outside his comfort zone, even though he was a great dad. Uh, the show wasn't the center around that, but his storyline as a character was, and. I'm gonna go to Ron Swanson. I mean from Parks and Recs. I know you don't care for that show. It's uh oh. I never said I didn't care. I just said he wasn't as good as the office. Okay. That's Ron Swanson was probably one, if not my favorite character on that show. Uh, Swanson Uh, yeah. So I'd say, yeah, if, uh, really of, uh, a dad's dad. Bobby Knight. Oh, I love that. Hmm. Let me see. This is your last one coming up? Yeah. Okay. I'm trying to think. I like, I don't know. This is, kind of tough, but again, I think I'm gonna go back to my strategy when D G I, Friday thing. Mm-hmm. And I know who this is. I'm gonna go with Carl Winslow. Yep. Yeah. Carl, I was waiting for you to pick up I knew you're gonna go with. Okay, good. In your last paper. Okay. Yeah. I'm kind of stuck between two. Okay. I've obviously got a lot of laughter though. This last one gonna be a classic. Those classic, you know, you know, I'll go, I'll stick with law enforcement. you just had last one. Carlo Wenzel as law enforcement. Mm-hmm. Let's go with Andy Taylor. Andy Griffith Show. Okay. I like that show. Mm-hmm. O timer. O timer. All. So I have some honorable mentions. Okay. Let me see what you think. Okay. I thought I left him off the list because I thought if I pick him. It wouldn't have given you a shot, you would've lost. Okay. I always forgive you how modest you are. Ted Lasso. Oh, yeah. Okay. I didn't even think of him. Um, Mike Brady from the Brady Bunch. That's who my last two were between Mike Brady and, and Andy. And then, um, Tony Sopr. Uh, okay. Okay. Dan Carter. I didn't watch that show. So, Dan Carter. Dan Carter was, that was one that was thing about going with also. And then Walter White. Mm. What do you think can see that one being popular? Popular one. Okay. I mean, so I'm not sure how. I was gonna say, I'm not sure if people would say that's a, a number one dad, but, uh, I think it's definitely a favorite character. So if John and I missed any, let us know. Um, let us know. Uh, you could follow us on Instagram. Leave us, uh, a message, um, for two six podcast. but I think we hit everything. I mean, what do you think? Is there anyone? Yeah, I mean like now that you think, you're like, oh, we left, we left them off. We should have picked him. Uh, I mean, Tim Taylor, that's one that, oh yeah. I didn't think about that. That would've been a real good one. Tim Tool man, Taylor. Yeah. Um, yeah, I mean that for the other ones we were talking about is pretty much who else I had in. there was Alan Thick from the growing pains. But like I, to be honest, I've never really seen the growing pains. Same beard. Yeah. I know he was popular, but sure he was a great dad. Uh, yeah. Um, you know who I liked though? Um, red from the seventies show. Yeah. Yeah. I think it was, I think it was popular enough. Would it been. would it qualified if he would've said Michael Scott since technically he talks about, uh, parents talks about how he has kids when the last, I think at the advance episode, probably not. It technically you said he's at some point in the show, he, they become fathers. It's not sent around it, but Yeah. But at least you would definitely, definitely make, at least with um, at least with Ron Swanson, like Elise's character. You showed that you saw that dip of his life. Michael Scott. It's just, yeah, it's just, um, all right. So I think that was a good one. I think that was a good one. Yeah. Again, uh, let us know if we missed like one of your favorite dads. Let us know and we'll, uh, well, we mentioned it, uh, on the next podcast, so. All right, John. Uh, Act of the, of the week before we head out. All right. Uh, this one's again gonna come to you as a form of a question. Do you know how many constellations there are in that, in our sky? No, I don't. Okay. Let me follow that with another question. Do you know how many keys there are on a piano? No. I. Okay, those two answers are the same. There's 88 keys and 88 consolation in the sky, which I thought was pretty cool. The Little Dipper, big Dipper, Ryan's belt, all those constellations. Uh, there's 88 of them and that's a good fact to, you know, tell your kids next time you're camping, which. John, you always go camping, so. That's right. The kids. And there's also, even if you're not camping, there's um, a pretty cool free app you could download that shows you like where you are and where the constellations are for. Oh, I have that out. Yeah. So, so, so, and 2020, when we went to Big Bear, uh, Layla, myself and Danny were outside looking at the stars and we would hold up the phone and. Oh, that's the, this consolation. Oh, over here is this, and over here. Is that. There you go. So there you go. Love you guys Time at the end of the night. Step outside and take a look up. So from John and I, thanks for listening. Have a good weekend. Go bills, and don't go changing.
