Advocating for Change: Strategies and Successes in Interior Design Legislation
A panel of experts in advocacy for interior design share valuable insights into the profession's legislative landscape and the importance of collaboration and individual advocacy. They discussed the role of interior design associations, including the Consortium for Interior Design, and explained concepts such as "reasonable regulation," title acts, and permitting privileges. The panelists highlighted significant developments in recent years that have influenced legislation nationwide, as well as positive steps taken since the Consortium's inception. They emphasized the evolution of the NCIDQ exam, the importance of inter-organization collaboration and industry partnerships, and the symbiotic relationship between education and advocacy. The discussion also touched on the legislative cycle, with insights into California's position, and extended to advocacy beyond legislation, offering actionable tips for designers to be better advocates for the profession.
