Hello, friends! …and welcome …once again …to legal biz cafe. I am your host, attorney Shaune B Arnold, and I'm just excited, as I am every single week to be here with you on legal biz cafe.
Tonight, we are going to give worry one right on the chin. But before we go scrappin’, I want to do just a little bit of housekeeping and talk about what we're doing here on legal biz cafe.
You see, I am your business consultant. I have been in the business strategy arena for, oh, about 40 years, and I've been a business attorney for 30 of those 40 years. Trust me, I have seen every train wreck in business and I know exactly how to keep you from being the next one. We're going to start with the things you may be doing to unwittingly sabotage the success of your business.
Now, that said, I often find when working with clients, that they get stuck when they are trying to build the business of their dreams. They get stuck on stuff that worries them and makes them feel out of step. It makes them feel out of place, maybe a little fearful, and sometimes a bit incompetent and worried. It makes them feel VERY worried about the future, about what's going on around them, about their ability to keep up, and about their ability to innovate, change and grow with the market.
There's a lot of worry out there, and so that's what we're going to talk about tonight on legal biz Cafe. We are dealing with your mindset, and we're going to set your feet underneath you solidly, so that you can then turn your attention to actually building a business that you're absolutely going to love. So on with it tonight. We are warriors, not worriers!
…Are you a worry wart? …Do you take yourself to the brink of sanity by running scenarios through your mind, or repeating conversations that run counter to what you want? These repetitions can occur, …either just above the surface, or …worse, …just below the surface.
Are these things happening to you? Let me give you some tips to help you worry less so you can be even stronger and build a strong business.
Worry is about stuff that's just not real, right? Worry is not based in truth. We have an idea in our mind, and it's negative, and we can take that to its logical conclusion, and that will lead us to something else negative, and we can take THAT to its logical conclusion, and we can find something ELSE …and take IT to its logical conclusion.
Before we know it, we can't get out of bed. We can't go to that networking event. We can't even approach that prospect because we're convinced that they're already working with somebody who is better than we are at what we do. And you and I both know there's nobody better than YOU ARE at what you do …because there is nobody else that has your particular skill set and your individual perspective.
There is nobody else on the planet that can deliver it quite like you can. But you worry yourself sick over something that's not even true. You know, I think that the key for us is rumination. We all think negative thoughts but not all of us get stuck there. Not all of us latch onto that negative, unsupportive thought and either run it again and again and again like some sick tape in our mind, or, as I said earlier, taking it to new and more dastardly conclusions than ever before.
Worry can actually wear a groove in your mind where your thoughts start to follow a familiar pattern. You are minding your own business, contemplating the business of your dreams, and the next thing you know, you're there again, consumed by fear about things that haven’t happened or so paralyzed that you can’t think your way out of the situation.
Have you ever experienced uneasiness with no real idea of where it's coming from? That happened to me the other day. I was actually thinking of a particular individual and something I wanted that individual to do.
Now, there was no real negative thought that entered my mind, but as I thought of that person and what I wanted them to do, a tightness entered my chest. It just clenched tightly, and the feeling was like rejection, angst and sadness. Suddenly, I sort of realized that the feeling was there, even though I'm sitting in a room by myself. This feeling is just there, seemingly by itself. And I said to myself, ...What is that? Where did that feeling even come from?
See, I don't even know what the negative thought was in relation to that person. Was it the thing I wanted them to do, or the outcome that I wanted that made me feel uncomfortable? I just I had to clamp down on it as soon as I recognized it...
I think that is the very first key for us. We have to recognize when we start down that road of negativity. Notice the slide and stop it cold. When this happens, say to yourself, "Where is that coming from?" Grab a hold of it.
Sometimes, to get over worrying about aspects of a project or situation, we need to step away. If possible, we may go someplace else entirely. This time away can help us see the various possibilities and choose the perfect solution to our challenge.
The world presents to us an infinite array of possibilities for every single situation that enters our lives. So, when we get stuck on a negative thought, we are deleting every other possibility. However, we live in energy fields. We can redirect this energy so the things we want and focus on will be brought to fruition.
This energy shift is not hard to pull off. When an idea presents itself and you don't want it, choose another. Sit quietly and think about the possibilities. Give all of them consideration in relation to that particular situation. This will keep you from going down a rabbit hole of ruminating on one bad thought or a set of bad thoughts. It keeps your energy positive.
You need your vibration to be high like this so you can access the solution in your meditation. ...You won’t have to chase it. The solution will match your vibration and it’ll just occur to you. Sometimes, the solution will even come to you in a dream. Be open to all of the possibilities for your success.
Take the time to consider all of the good things that just might come to pass in this situation, all of the good things from the very best outcome, through a scenario that leaves you feeling you could take it or leave it, and then back again to the very best possibilities.
Do your best to avoid the negative end of the pendulum because that's a natural place for us to go. We live in such a negative world. We get so much negative input on a daily basis. It's no wonder we find ourselves in this mindset where we're thinking things are not going to work, where we're thinking that that person is not going to want us to get what we want.
You can actually calmly analyze all the possibilities and then choose the one you resonate with. You do not have to connect with the negative thought. You can literally detach from it and visualize it flying away like a bird because you're not your thought. You've heard me say that before. You are not your thoughts. You are that space between the thoughts.
You reside somewhere other than in that thought. That gives you enormous power to disconnect from disempowering thoughts. A wise person once said ...worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength. You are a warrior. You are strong. You take on life's challenges as they come. You tweak them on the nose.
You don’t want to be a worrier; someone who ruminates over all the ways that it's not going to work out. Think about it. How much stronger will you be when you release the worry? ...How much peace will you have? Can you gain enough clarity to tackle your challenges in business?
How much could you accomplish if you could actually rid yourself of evenings curled in a fetal position hating your life or drinking away the worry? Worry debilitates you. It robs you of your joy. Worry blinds you to the possibilities. When you are in the throes of some negative thought, nothing positive can penetrate the fog. You have to actually grab yourself and affirmatively change your perspective.
There is nothing noble in worrying yourself sick. There is nothing noble in creating dis ease in your body, in your relationships, or in your business.
…You are not showing loyalty or assisting anyone by fretting. Rather, you're actually showing a lack of trust in that person, in God, and in yourself. if you latch on to that negative perspective, and focus on nothing else, you will bring that negative perspective into fruition.
You can just make another choice. ...You can become a warrior for yourself, ...for your family, ...for your business. You'll be a warrior that takes on challenges, not a worrier that shrinks from them. C'mon, give worry one on the chin. ...Doing so will make a huge difference in your business ...and your personal life.
