Sep 01, 2022 Season 1 Episode 3
Veronica Green

Today's episode is with two of my former instructors and they have SO much experience and expertise to share with us!

Amy Stolpestad and Michelle Benegas are both teacher leaders and advocates. They are also "teacher teachers" - they continually support and guide all levels of EL and content teachers and administrators through their work in Teacher Leadership for School-Wide English Learning (SWEL).

Join the conversation as we define types of leadership, ways to collaborate, and own our expertise as leaders in advocacy for our students and families.

Amy O'Connor Stolpestad, Ed.D, served as the director of The ELM Project at Hamline University, is a co-author of Teacher Leadership for School-Wide English Learning (TESOL Press, 2020), and consults with local, regional, state, and higher education institutions. Stolpestad is a Minnesota licensed K-12 ESL teacher and experienced teacher educator. Her research interests include teacher leadership, instructional coaching, teacher identity, and organizational change management.

Michelle Benegas, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in TESOL at Hamline University. In her work with teachers and schools, she promotes a model in which ESL teachers serve as site-based experts and coaches to their colleagues. Her research interests include ESL teacher leadership, teacher leader identity, and systemic approaches to improving EL services. Michelle also served as the 2015 president of Minnesota TESOL.
