Karen Maturo

Karen has been a part of the Hawthorn District 73 community since 1989. She was a middle school ELA, math, and social studies teacher. She also served as an Instructional Coach and a middle school principal at Hawthorn. Karen then moved to the district office in 2009 as the Director of Professional Development and the Induction Coordinator, supporting the learning needs of our veteran and our newest teachers. She is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Innovative Learning.

What drives her professionally is to see how an effective, caring, and innovative teacher impacts a child’s life. It truly can be life-changing for that child

What drives her personally is her four children, her love of her two English Springer Spaniels, and most importantly, her four grandchildren. All the work that she has done and will do in the education field is to create classrooms that are effective and joyful places for every single student.
