I did not fully"},{"startTime":107.69,"endTime":111.05,"body":"understand muzzles. I didn't"},{"startTime":107.69,"endTime":111.05,"body":"even understand reactivity,"},{"startTime":111.05,"endTime":116.06,"body":"really. So in my mind at 21"},{"startTime":111.05,"endTime":116.06,"body":"years old, a dog who wears a"},{"startTime":116.06,"endTime":122.09,"body":"muzzle is aggressive. You should"},{"startTime":116.06,"endTime":122.09,"body":"be afraid of those dogs. Why"},{"startTime":122.09,"endTime":124.43,"body":"would I think any differently if"},{"startTime":122.09,"endTime":124.43,"body":"I was never told any"},{"startTime":124.43,"endTime":128.45,"body":"differently? Which is why I"},{"startTime":124.43,"endTime":128.45,"body":"don't immediately blame somebody"},{"startTime":128.45,"endTime":132.14,"body":"who looks at my dog in a muzzle"},{"startTime":128.45,"endTime":132.14,"body":"and thinks the worst of them."},{"startTime":132.86,"endTime":137.78,"body":"But I think that just says a lot"},{"startTime":132.86,"endTime":137.78,"body":"about how much we need to talk"},{"startTime":137.84,"endTime":142.76,"body":"about muzzles and advocate for"},{"startTime":137.84,"endTime":142.76,"body":"our dogs, and those that have to"},{"startTime":142.76,"endTime":146.27,"body":"wear them maybe on a daily basis"},{"startTime":142.76,"endTime":146.27,"body":"or every time that they leave"},{"startTime":146.27,"endTime":149.78,"body":"the house. But back when I got"},{"startTime":146.27,"endTime":149.78,"body":"Reese and coming into the"},{"startTime":149.78,"endTime":154.16,"body":"situation with my prior"},{"startTime":149.78,"endTime":154.16,"body":"knowledge about muzzles, I did"},{"startTime":154.16,"endTime":159.44,"body":"not want to put one on my dog."},{"startTime":154.16,"endTime":159.44,"body":"Because I knew how I had"},{"startTime":159.44,"endTime":163.4,"body":"previously looked at muzzles."},{"startTime":159.44,"endTime":163.4,"body":"I'm now adopting this bully"},{"startTime":163.4,"endTime":167.0,"body":"breed who has been abused and is"},{"startTime":163.4,"endTime":167.0,"body":"terrified of people. He's"},{"startTime":167.0,"endTime":171.62,"body":"terrified or just uncertain"},{"startTime":167.0,"endTime":171.62,"body":"about dogs, and he's reactive"},{"startTime":171.62,"endTime":175.34,"body":"towards them. People are already"},{"startTime":171.62,"endTime":175.34,"body":"judging him because of how he"},{"startTime":175.34,"endTime":179.63,"body":"looks. They're judging me"},{"startTime":175.34,"endTime":179.63,"body":"because of how he's acting. So"},{"startTime":179.63,"endTime":184.19,"body":"if I throw a muzzle on him, what"},{"startTime":179.63,"endTime":184.19,"body":"are they left to think, but that"},{"startTime":184.19,"endTime":187.7,"body":"he's aggressive, and they should"},{"startTime":184.19,"endTime":187.7,"body":"be afraid of him and maybe so"},{"startTime":187.7,"endTime":191.03,"body":"far as to think that he should"},{"startTime":187.7,"endTime":191.03,"body":"be put down. So especially when"},{"startTime":191.03,"endTime":194.39,"body":"we're working on all of this,"},{"startTime":191.03,"endTime":194.39,"body":"and we're making huge strides in"},{"startTime":194.39,"endTime":198.41,"body":"his reactivity, and he's really"},{"startTime":194.39,"endTime":198.41,"body":"learning to trust me, and he's"},{"startTime":198.41,"endTime":203.33,"body":"not having such bad reactions."},{"startTime":198.41,"endTime":203.33,"body":"The type of dog that Reese was,"},{"startTime":203.42,"endTime":207.89,"body":"if an off leash dog were to come"},{"startTime":203.42,"endTime":207.89,"body":"into his face, unexpectedly, or"},{"startTime":207.89,"endTime":211.4,"body":"maybe, I didn't know, if a"},{"startTime":207.89,"endTime":211.4,"body":"person were to come out of"},{"startTime":211.4,"endTime":216.02,"body":"nowhere, is how he might react."},{"startTime":211.4,"endTime":216.02,"body":"But even with that, I did not"},{"startTime":216.02,"endTime":219.8,"body":"want to throw a muzzle on him."},{"startTime":216.02,"endTime":219.8,"body":"Because okay, we're making"},{"startTime":219.8,"endTime":223.85,"body":"progress. If you don't know him"},{"startTime":219.8,"endTime":223.85,"body":"any better if you're not seeing"},{"startTime":223.85,"endTime":228.47,"body":"their reactions, he looks like a"},{"startTime":223.85,"endTime":228.47,"body":"well behaved Good boy. So if I"},{"startTime":228.47,"endTime":232.25,"body":"put a muzzle on him, they're"},{"startTime":228.47,"endTime":232.25,"body":"just going to see - to the"},{"startTime":232.25,"endTime":235.28,"body":"public eye - a pitbull with a"},{"startTime":232.25,"endTime":235.28,"body":"muzzle, and they're going to"},{"startTime":235.28,"endTime":239.63,"body":"think the absolute worst. And I"},{"startTime":235.28,"endTime":239.63,"body":"was so focused on his appearance"},{"startTime":239.63,"endTime":243.62,"body":"and making sure that bully"},{"startTime":239.63,"endTime":243.62,"body":"breeds had a good name, to"},{"startTime":243.62,"endTime":248.51,"body":"support the rescues. And to put"},{"startTime":243.62,"endTime":248.51,"body":"a muzzle on him... I was just"},{"startTime":248.51,"endTime":253.61,"body":"terrified of what other people"},{"startTime":248.51,"endTime":253.61,"body":"thought. I'll even admit that at"},{"startTime":253.61,"endTime":258.68,"body":"the start of the activity"},{"startTime":253.61,"endTime":258.68,"body":"journey with Rey back in 2020, I"},{"startTime":258.68,"endTime":262.01,"body":"still I didn't even consider a"},{"startTime":258.68,"endTime":262.01,"body":"muzzle because she was a"},{"startTime":262.01,"endTime":265.91,"body":"friendly girl. She was just"},{"startTime":262.01,"endTime":265.91,"body":"frustrated. She was reactive"},{"startTime":265.91,"endTime":269.42,"body":"towards dogs, but we would go"},{"startTime":265.91,"endTime":269.42,"body":"off leash with friends and she"},{"startTime":269.42,"endTime":272.36,"body":"would be fine. You know, she was"},{"startTime":269.42,"endTime":272.36,"body":"really good with her brothers."},{"startTime":272.36,"endTime":276.08,"body":"She was even okay if she did"},{"startTime":272.36,"endTime":276.08,"body":"meet on leash, but her reactions"},{"startTime":276.29,"endTime":280.25,"body":"were just so explosive. But"},{"startTime":276.29,"endTime":280.25,"body":"that's not to say that I wasn't"},{"startTime":280.25,"endTime":284.18,"body":"also afraid of off leash dogs"},{"startTime":280.25,"endTime":284.18,"body":"coming out of nowhere if we were"},{"startTime":284.18,"endTime":286.97,"body":"on our adventures in the woods."},{"startTime":284.18,"endTime":286.97,"body":"I'm constantly looking over my"},{"startTime":286.97,"endTime":291.41,"body":"shoulder to make sure that there"},{"startTime":286.97,"endTime":291.41,"body":"are no dogs coming at us or if"},{"startTime":291.41,"endTime":294.53,"body":"we're on an on leash trail,"},{"startTime":291.41,"endTime":294.53,"body":"constantly looking around for"},{"startTime":294.53,"endTime":298.04,"body":"that off leash dog that might"},{"startTime":294.53,"endTime":298.04,"body":"come barreling towards Rey"},{"startTime":298.28,"endTime":301.7,"body":"especially when I had Riley, my"},{"startTime":298.28,"endTime":301.7,"body":"golden boy, with us because she"},{"startTime":301.7,"endTime":305.9,"body":"was now very protective of him."},{"startTime":301.7,"endTime":305.9,"body":"If you remember from Episode"},{"startTime":305.9,"endTime":309.2,"body":"Two, she had witnessed Reese go"},{"startTime":305.9,"endTime":309.2,"body":"after Riley and she tried to"},{"startTime":309.2,"endTime":312.62,"body":"break up that fight. So she was"},{"startTime":309.2,"endTime":312.62,"body":"very nervous when dogs tried to"},{"startTime":312.62,"endTime":315.98,"body":"approach Riley, she kind of put"},{"startTime":312.62,"endTime":315.98,"body":"on this role that she shouldn't"},{"startTime":315.98,"endTime":319.67,"body":"have had to be his protector."},{"startTime":315.98,"endTime":319.67,"body":"But yet, it was never an option"},{"startTime":319.67,"endTime":323.36,"body":"in my mind to take Rey out with"},{"startTime":319.67,"endTime":323.36,"body":"a muzzle, because she's a"},{"startTime":323.36,"endTime":326.33,"body":"friendly dog. She's not"},{"startTime":323.36,"endTime":326.33,"body":"aggressive. She's not out to get"},{"startTime":326.33,"endTime":330.74,"body":"dogs, so why should I punish"},{"startTime":326.33,"endTime":330.74,"body":"her? By putting her in a muzzle."},{"startTime":331.25,"endTime":336.62,"body":"I know that putting a dog in a"},{"startTime":331.25,"endTime":336.62,"body":"muzzle is not punishment. I'm"},{"startTime":336.62,"endTime":339.05,"body":"making this podcast, I think"},{"startTime":336.62,"endTime":339.05,"body":"that's self explanatory, but I"},{"startTime":339.23,"endTime":341.03,"body":"thought I would just throw that"},{"startTime":339.23,"endTime":341.03,"body":"in there anyways."},{"startTime":341.3,"endTime":345.38,"body":"But my prior perspective and"},{"startTime":341.3,"endTime":345.38,"body":"idea about muzzles just comes"},{"startTime":345.38,"endTime":349.1,"body":"from never being told"},{"startTime":345.38,"endTime":349.1,"body":"differently. And there are so"},{"startTime":349.1,"endTime":353.72,"body":"many reasons why a dog might be"},{"startTime":349.1,"endTime":353.72,"body":"wearing a muzzle. It's not just"},{"startTime":353.72,"endTime":356.66,"body":"about the dog is aggressive and"},{"startTime":353.72,"endTime":356.66,"body":"the dog is going to attack you."},{"startTime":356.69,"endTime":361.55,"body":"I think that every dog should be"},{"startTime":356.69,"endTime":361.55,"body":"muzzled trained for emergencies."},{"startTime":361.94,"endTime":365.06,"body":"For safety, for peace of mind,"},{"startTime":361.94,"endTime":365.06,"body":"there might be situations that"},{"startTime":365.06,"endTime":367.55,"body":"arise that you wish you could"},{"startTime":365.06,"endTime":367.55,"body":"easily put your dog into a"},{"startTime":367.55,"endTime":370.49,"body":"muzzle, one of those situations"},{"startTime":367.55,"endTime":370.49,"body":"might be a vet visit. \"Oh, my"},{"startTime":370.49,"endTime":374.69,"body":"dog loves people, they have no"},{"startTime":370.49,"endTime":374.69,"body":"issue at the vet\". What happens"},{"startTime":374.69,"endTime":378.38,"body":"if your dog might break a leg or"},{"startTime":374.69,"endTime":378.38,"body":"get really injured get quilled"},{"startTime":378.38,"endTime":381.26,"body":"by a porcupine, and all of a"},{"startTime":378.38,"endTime":381.26,"body":"sudden it doesn't want anybody"},{"startTime":381.26,"endTime":385.34,"body":"touching it. It's in pain,"},{"startTime":381.26,"endTime":385.34,"body":"something's gone wrong, and it"},{"startTime":385.34,"endTime":390.17,"body":"wants it space, it might resort"},{"startTime":385.34,"endTime":390.17,"body":"to correcting or nipping or"},{"startTime":390.2,"endTime":394.52,"body":"biting to make sure that nobody"},{"startTime":390.2,"endTime":394.52,"body":"gets into its space. And maybe"},{"startTime":394.52,"endTime":397.85,"body":"it's not even that maybe your"},{"startTime":394.52,"endTime":397.85,"body":"dog just is nervous of people."},{"startTime":398.06,"endTime":401.3,"body":"It doesn't like being handled,"},{"startTime":398.06,"endTime":401.3,"body":"maybe it's nervous about its"},{"startTime":401.3,"endTime":406.19,"body":"paws being touched, or it's just"},{"startTime":401.3,"endTime":406.19,"body":"genuinely afraid of people, it's"},{"startTime":406.19,"endTime":410.3,"body":"not aggressive. But going to the"},{"startTime":406.19,"endTime":410.3,"body":"vet with that nervousness, it"},{"startTime":410.3,"endTime":412.82,"body":"would put everybody's mind at"},{"startTime":410.3,"endTime":412.82,"body":"ease, if that dog were wearing a"},{"startTime":412.82,"endTime":415.76,"body":"muzzle knowing that it can't"},{"startTime":412.82,"endTime":415.76,"body":"make a poor decision. It just"},{"startTime":415.76,"endTime":419.0,"body":"provides that peace of mind and"},{"startTime":415.76,"endTime":419.0,"body":"ensures everybody's safety,"},{"startTime":419.03,"endTime":421.67,"body":"which is always the top"},{"startTime":419.03,"endTime":421.67,"body":"priority. And another reason"},{"startTime":421.67,"endTime":425.21,"body":"that a dog might be wearing a"},{"startTime":421.67,"endTime":425.21,"body":"muzzle out in public is because"},{"startTime":425.24,"endTime":428.75,"body":"it's a scavenger. There are some"},{"startTime":425.24,"endTime":428.75,"body":"dogs that will just pick up"},{"startTime":428.81,"endTime":432.44,"body":"anything that they can, whether"},{"startTime":428.81,"endTime":432.44,"body":"that's garbage, rocks, dirt,"},{"startTime":432.68,"endTime":435.44,"body":"anything. If they can get it in"},{"startTime":432.68,"endTime":435.44,"body":"their mouth, they will and they"},{"startTime":435.44,"endTime":438.38,"body":"might swallow it. And that is"},{"startTime":435.44,"endTime":438.38,"body":"obviously not safe for the dogs."},{"startTime":438.98,"endTime":441.86,"body":"I know dogs that used to be"},{"startTime":438.98,"endTime":441.86,"body":"obsessed with picking up rocks."},{"startTime":442.07,"endTime":444.23,"body":"And that's obviously not safe"},{"startTime":442.07,"endTime":444.23,"body":"for their teeth. And it was a"},{"startTime":444.23,"endTime":447.17,"body":"battle between the owner and the"},{"startTime":444.23,"endTime":447.17,"body":"dog to get the rock out of their"},{"startTime":447.17,"endTime":451.49,"body":"mouth. And it would result in"},{"startTime":447.17,"endTime":451.49,"body":"hands that are bleeding, the"},{"startTime":451.49,"endTime":455.72,"body":"dog's teeth can get chipped. I"},{"startTime":451.49,"endTime":455.72,"body":"also know dogs that are obsessed"},{"startTime":455.72,"endTime":460.34,"body":"with eating dirt. Love you"},{"startTime":455.72,"endTime":460.34,"body":"Dolly. So obviously, you can't"},{"startTime":460.73,"endTime":464.87,"body":"just let your dog run free when"},{"startTime":460.73,"endTime":464.87,"body":"you're still trying to train the"},{"startTime":464.87,"endTime":468.47,"body":"dogs out of that habit. So those"},{"startTime":464.87,"endTime":468.47,"body":"dogs might be wearing a muzzle"},{"startTime":468.47,"endTime":472.76,"body":"for that reason, which is just"},{"startTime":468.47,"endTime":472.76,"body":"to keep them safe. And I will"},{"startTime":472.76,"endTime":476.15,"body":"also add if you have a dog who"},{"startTime":472.76,"endTime":476.15,"body":"is a scavenger who likes to pick"},{"startTime":476.15,"endTime":480.26,"body":"up things off the ground. And if"},{"startTime":476.15,"endTime":480.26,"body":"it is a safety concern. There"},{"startTime":480.26,"endTime":483.08,"body":"are muzzles that actually have a"},{"startTime":480.26,"endTime":483.08,"body":"solid bottom because some dogs"},{"startTime":483.08,"endTime":486.62,"body":"are still pretty crafty and can"},{"startTime":483.08,"endTime":486.62,"body":"somehow manage to either lick up"},{"startTime":486.86,"endTime":491.3,"body":"dirt or the garbage through a"},{"startTime":486.86,"endTime":491.3,"body":"muzzle. So I highly recommend"},{"startTime":491.3,"endTime":494.27,"body":"the ones that have the solid"},{"startTime":491.3,"endTime":494.27,"body":"bottom. But also putting your"},{"startTime":494.27,"endTime":497.93,"body":"dog in a muzzle allows for that"},{"startTime":494.27,"endTime":497.93,"body":"off leash freedom. Of course,"},{"startTime":497.93,"endTime":500.66,"body":"when you're walking your dog on"},{"startTime":497.93,"endTime":500.66,"body":"a leash, you should be doing"},{"startTime":500.66,"endTime":503.12,"body":"what you can to make sure that"},{"startTime":500.66,"endTime":503.12,"body":"they aren't picking up items. Of"},{"startTime":503.12,"endTime":505.88,"body":"course, things happen that are"},{"startTime":503.12,"endTime":505.88,"body":"out of your control. But if you"},{"startTime":505.88,"endTime":508.58,"body":"do want to go off leash, you"},{"startTime":505.88,"endTime":508.58,"body":"want to allow your dog that"},{"startTime":508.58,"endTime":512.3,"body":"freedom, what are you going to"},{"startTime":508.58,"endTime":512.3,"body":"do when it's 30 feet away and"},{"startTime":512.3,"endTime":515.06,"body":"it's not responding to that"},{"startTime":512.3,"endTime":515.06,"body":"leave it command? The muzzle"},{"startTime":515.06,"endTime":517.73,"body":"gives you that off leash freedom"},{"startTime":515.06,"endTime":517.73,"body":"so that you can still enjoy"},{"startTime":517.73,"endTime":521.42,"body":"doing these things, and you know"},{"startTime":517.73,"endTime":521.42,"body":"that your dog is safe. I think"},{"startTime":521.42,"endTime":524.39,"body":"it's also super valuable to use"},{"startTime":521.42,"endTime":524.39,"body":"a muzzle in situations that are"},{"startTime":524.39,"endTime":528.14,"body":"uncertain you just don't know"},{"startTime":524.39,"endTime":528.14,"body":"how your dog is going to respond"},{"startTime":528.14,"endTime":531.02,"body":"maybe how the other party is"},{"startTime":528.14,"endTime":531.02,"body":"going to respond whether that's"},{"startTime":531.02,"endTime":535.61,"body":"another dog or a person. I for"},{"startTime":531.02,"endTime":535.61,"body":"example, I used a muzzle on"},{"startTime":535.61,"endTime":539.09,"body":"Reese when I introduced him to"},{"startTime":535.61,"endTime":539.09,"body":"Rey as a puppy. I had absolutely"},{"startTime":539.09,"endTime":542.3,"body":"no idea how he was going to"},{"startTime":539.09,"endTime":542.3,"body":"react to me bringing a puppy"},{"startTime":542.3,"endTime":545.36,"body":"into his space. So there was no"},{"startTime":542.3,"endTime":545.36,"body":"way that I was going to do that"},{"startTime":545.36,"endTime":549.56,"body":"interaction without having him"},{"startTime":545.36,"endTime":549.56,"body":"in a muzzle and for Rey, I'll"},{"startTime":549.56,"endTime":553.67,"body":"often put her in a muzzle as"},{"startTime":549.56,"endTime":553.67,"body":"well for the first interaction"},{"startTime":553.67,"endTime":557.42,"body":"with a new dog that she might be"},{"startTime":553.67,"endTime":557.42,"body":"meeting off leash, just to give"},{"startTime":557.42,"endTime":561.29,"body":"that peace of mind that she"},{"startTime":557.42,"endTime":561.29,"body":"can't overcorrect or respond"},{"startTime":561.32,"endTime":565.79,"body":"poorly to their behavior. She"},{"startTime":561.32,"endTime":565.79,"body":"doesn't do well with overexcited"},{"startTime":565.79,"endTime":571.13,"body":"dogs.
