The Undead Symphony
Episode 224: Burying the Ex
A change of plan. We had that list of zombie movies on TUBI. Michael was given the reigns and I asked him which one to watch next. He said Transit 17, a French/Belgian/dutch effort. I agreed then saw the trailer and reviews and now he has had his choosing privileges revoked again.
That being said TUBI has redeemed itself by offering up this, a rom zom com, and there aren’t many of this… Burying the Ex
2014
Directed by Joe Danto who gave Gremlins and Small Soldiers, both good films, and it stars the late and great Alton Yelchin, Green Room, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, a lot of good things. A true loss to Hollywood that one.
It stars Anton as MAX
Ashley Green from the Twiglight movies as Evelyn, the zombie ex
Alexandra Deddario from a really good list of movies, San Andreas, Texas chainsaw 3D, we summon the darkness, percy Jackson…as new gf olivia
And Oliver Cooper who we loved in As We Know it as Travis, not that he is being typecast as he nerdy best friend in zombie comedies at all
The plot
Max, a young man, starts dating Evelyn, but she soon dies in an accident. Things take a dark turn when she comes back as a zombie and find out that Max has moved on with Olivia.
Is it Warm Bodies? No. But it still one of those sought after entry level zombie movies that you could watch with the new significant other, the wife/gf/partner/kids/homeless man you met at the bus station called Malcolm
It feels a little more As We Know It, with movie references and movies watched including I Walked with a Zombie dotted throughout.
Speaking of which Oliver Cooper is funny as ever. And despite Evelyn being so obnoxious you wanted her dead before she actually is killed, the cast and the plot is ok.
5/10 which is good for us
