Episode 271: Neighbours versus Zombies and ZombieCon Vol 1
EPISODE 271… still waiting for Michael. And I have been waiting a long time for him. But, much like London buses, am sure after waiting for ages 3 Michaels will then come along.
In this episode, I want to start by talking about the Neighbours Halloween special, Neighbours versus Zombies, 5 episodes of 6 minutes or so, equating to a normal half an hour episode of the popular Australian soap opera. And this was Michael’s recommendation.
It was entertaining, they didn’t ham it up, it was played the same way as the soap opera, same set, same cast, same everything just with zombies. Well done those involved. With the nostalgia of the characters chosen, and the ingenuity of bringing back cast members who actually died, I have to say I enjoyed all half hour of it. and am going to give it a solid 5/10 and tell anyone who is a Neighbours fan to give it a watch.
And now onto the main show… Zombiecon vol 1.
Now, I heard about this movie a long time ago. When it was first completed, not even released. I discovered the US release date but saw there was no UK or international release planned and so I binned the idea of watching it. Shame as it was, conceptually fun. Zombie apocalypse at a cosplay convention. Seems harmless fun.
But then the Zombiecon guys, Erin really who plays Claire, contacted us when they did others to ask if we would watch it, and have them on. So why not. Let’s watch it first then have them on depending on what we think. We do give all movies a fair shake of the stick, fuck I just watched Neighbours v Zombies so we have to give it a go.
Ignore the 10/10 scores on IMDB causing a fabricated high score, and absolutely ignore the grumpy elitist naysayers in the community who didn't even want to review it when given a free link. Fuck them in the ear. This movie is fun. It is four cosplaying friends in LA causing and surviving the zombie apocalypse. Claire, Javier, Punkie and Rocket. The zombies are done well. Nit picking I would say there were plenty of scenes that were too long, the sound when all four are shouting and squealing over the top of each other was too much to take, and the camera dipped out of focus from time to time. That being said, it is around the same standard as Dead Before Dawn, with elements that reminded me of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Dance of the Dead and Burying the Ex. It is fun. A 5.5/10 for us so recommendable and rewatcheable.
You you have to remember we see hundreds of zombie movies, the good, the bad and the ugly. And, if I was sticking this in one of those three pots, it would be good.
