The Undead Symphony
Episode 278: Newtopia (parts 1 to 4)
We do love Korean zombies. Train to Busan should be in everyone's top 10, All of Us Are Dead is probably per minute the most intense zombie TV show ever made. Then we get Peninsula, Kingdom, Zombieverse and Happiness and this, Newtopia. 2025, on Amazon, telling the story of a young couple Young-Joo and Jae-Yoon, an office girl and a soldier as the zombie apocalypse takes hold of Seoul.
It is very entertaining, 8 parts, just under an hour per episode, however, In Ho is far far too slapstick and comedy shouty, and Young-Joo and her boss are far far whiny.
At times you beg the question "can Korean whisper?" Or "can Koreans even speak in a quiet tone?" Or "can Koreans actually STFU?" as no one seems to be able to be quiet, even with hordes of zombies around them.
Still, half way through and I would put this up there on par with Happiness, however, I would say that if this was a drama and not a comedy, it would be even higher in my ratings.
Def a 6.5/10 at half way with a chance for improvement.
