OK so to recap – DEAD SEASON 2012, we had Elvis and TWEETER meeting up during the zombie apocalypse and arriving on the small Caribbean island of DE SANTOS or something along those lines, getting a boat from florida. Now the write ups said there was a murderous cult, WRONG! And the pair had to fight for their lives daily. WRONG! It was 16 people, 13 guys led by Call of Duty silver fox Curt, 2 prostitutes and Curts daughter rachel. The guys were all generic thug types who don’t deserve to have names in the credits, just thug 1 through 13. Despite being on the island for 10 months they haven’t cleared it at all. And they eventually get overrun when the zombies the zombies are now runners and not just walkers. But the good guys get away on a boat, a la dawn 2004, however, there is no end credits nonsense to ruin the whole movie for me. So, Elvis, Tweeter and Rachel all made it…

Fast forward 11 years to 2023 and what comes out… DECADE of the DEAD… the sequel…

Ten years into the apocalypse, a group arrives on an island ruled by a deranges cult leader and must fight for their lives…

Hold on a minute… surely that is the exact description of the first movie…

Moving on…

It stars Shaun Patrick Thomas from save the last dance, cruel intentions and the barbershop movies as Ben… as we appreciate a Ben in a zombie movie. Corsica Wilson and Marissa Merrill are back as rachel and tweeter respectively but we gain Jenna leigh green as stacy, dean geyer as remy, Renegades Branscome Richmond as wyatt and most importantly Shane Johnson from ghost, the power movies and others as a genuine cult leader and loony tune Grinner… so they made a sequel so they could reuse the description of the first movie… same running time I think too, under the hour and a half…

The cinematophraphy is so much better but this movie fell into the trap that the zombies are no longer the problem, people are the problem. Zombies are a tool the people use, or a catalyst to make the people change their plans. However, the zombies are almost always forgettable. If this was a vampire we would be focused on the vampire not killing us. A werewolf the same. Aliens the same. A flood even. A shark movie. A tornado movie. A fire. You don’t want X getting you. Here through an over convoluted plot its one group of people trying to use one person from another group of people to exert pressure on another group of people. And that doesn’t feel like a zombie movie at all.

In many ways, despite the much bigger budget, the far better fight and chase scene choreography this movie is inferior to the low budget original.

4/10
