Colette Brown: I'm going to start today's podcast with a question. How do you define wellness? What does it mean to you to be well? If you would have asked me a few years ago, my answer would have been a lot different. I would have said no IBS pain, no cystic acne, no arthritis pain today. It's a whole different story.
My definition of wellness has expanded a lot to say the least. I'm actually traveling right now. I am on the road. I was just at the global wellness summit in St. Andrew's Scotland at the old course hotel. And by the way, if you ever want to go to Scotland and you want to stay at a nice resort with a golf course and a spa, it's absolutely amazing.
And also connects you to just the wild country and you're right on the North Sea. I digress. Back to wellness. How do you define wellness? So at the summit, we saw people there that were specialists. Wim Hof was there, who is the father of cold plunging. There's doctors, practitioners, products brain scans, supplements, things that were just amazing that you could really prove incrementally how they're affecting your health.
We shared for four days and Because wellness is so important in my life because I was sick for so long and I don't want to go back to that. I want to stay feeling healthy. So I'm always looking at ways that I can nourish my body and heal it. And one of the speakers that was at the conference, Was amazing.
He was a 17 year old. His name was Louis Swire. And by the way, I'm going to have him on my podcast, but a lot of people will give me an excuse of Colette. I just don't have the time to do all these things or to do my non negotiables. And I would like to challenge you because Louis pointed something out in the conference that was really astonishing to me.
He said that the average 17 year old spends about six hours a day. On social media, that's 24 hours a week, 91 days a year. And if this continues, we can expect to lose two decades of our life to endless scrolling. I was floored by this statistic. Over the next few months, I'm going to have on different guests.
That were attending the global wellness summit, and I'm going to showcase the work that they're doing, that they're providing making a difference in the world. So I can't wait to share that, but just to extra special shout out to Lewis Swire for speaking to us at the conference and sharing some really meaningful information.
What will you do about your health? What are you going to do to take it to the next level? Maybe it's committing to working out with weights three times a week or eating more greens, picking up a craft, a musical instrument that really lights up your soul that you haven't done in so long, but you've just left it out.
Maybe it's cold plunging, whatever it is. I'd like you to start with a small doable task. This is your non negotiable, something that you can protect that you love, and there's no better advocate for yourself than you. Before New Year's, Before you turn over a new leaf, what can you do today?
Just think about it. Meditate on it. Talk to your partner, your friend, Just talk to somebody and just say, I'm thinking about doing these new things. you might need a buddy system. You might need to write it in a journal and make a commitment. because you are your own best personal advocate.
If there are any topics that you would like me to expand on or bring specialists on and talk about more, please let me know. I'm always looking to find people that can give a different perspective on wellness. Soplease let me know.
And I want to thank you so much for listening so that we can all be healthy together.
