From Charlip Law Group L.C. -  Once a judge rules in favor of a mortgage lender in a foreclosure case, the lender typically proceeds to arrange a foreclosure sale. However, if a homeowner suspects that the foreclosure judgment was made in error, they may have an opportunity to contest it and halt the sale of their property, as long as the sale hasn't occurred and ownership hasn't been transferred to a new owner. Once a sale has been completed, the homeowner can only receive financial compensation if a court determines later on that the foreclosure was indeed a mistake.
