The People Around Us
(Formerly The 'Some Elbow Room' Podcast)
There are so many ways to live a life and this podcast is testament to that!
Our conversations are honest, fun, reflective and interesting and we hope to inspire our listeners who may be a bit stuck in their work to stop and think about what they really want in life - to create “some elbow room”.
Specifically, to put some time aside to really think about:
(1) How their current job suits their personality
(2) The impact it is having on their own wellbeing & happiness and
(3) The influence it is having on the relationships most important in their life.
Our guest’s stories unfold key moments of change. Often influenced by their work, we talk about how those changes have impacted their lives. Whether our guest recognised an opportunity or had a plan, said yes instead of no or just fell on their feet - their lives often turned for the better! We also discuss how being part of a group or community is important to feeling that sense of belonging and how much belonging influences one’s happiness and wellbeing. This podcast may even inspire you to seek it out if you don’t have it in your life. Our guests show there are many ways to live a life and finding a balance between ambition, hard work and fun is the place to be!
This is what we explore from all directions and more on the “The People Around Us” Podcast. Enjoy!
The People Around Us
It's Never Too Late To Find Your Dream Job - Peta Waterman - Part A
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Peta Waterman has lived a pretty remarkable life and at 47 yrs old landed her dream job as a Qantas Flight Attendant that she wanted for over 20 years. Proof that you're NEVER too old to keep trying to find your dream job and seek out happiness if things aren't quite as you wish. Peta definitely has a crack at life saying "yes" more than "no" to keep changing things up as the case may be in search for her own happiness.
She excelled at elite Netball playing 18 years for Perth Orioles (now known as West Coast Fever) in the State league and is the only player in history to win 3 x Jill McIntosh medals for the Fairest & Best player in the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League.
Prior to Qantas, her working life was varied running a few businesses in Security, Cleaning, Personal Training, Real Estate and Player Management. There were lot's of up's and downs as always along the way that she had to work through herself and with those close to her. You get the feeling she's pretty much seen it all !
Throughout all of this high achievement, Peta has surrounded herself with community and is very much a family person with her 3 sons and husband also elite sportspeople . Yep, a family of super high achievers. Make no mistake though, it hasn't always been like that as is often the case for all of us throughout our journey so her story is pretty inspiring.
Peta knows how to party, have a laugh and is so fun, vibrant, honest and cheeky throughout the podcast. She really has worked on having that mix of hard work, ambition and fun perfectly balanced for her own happiness.
Enjoy listening to her story and make sure you listen to Part B too!
