[00:00:00] Dr. Nate Salah
Hello my friend, and welcome to this episode of A Call to Leadership. I'm Dr. Nate Salah, your host, so glad you are here. I love showcasing someone who is doing good in the world, talking about the emphasis and the impact of massive love, caring about those in need in the areas of our spheres today, tomorrow, this week, whatever it might. I look like how am I being called forward for a greater purpose to serve? I've invited Rihannon Beauchamp, who is a fireball of faith, has so much life, joy and energy that permeates this world that she touches. So I can't wait for you to listen. And I've invited Mr. Travis Revelle to join me in co-hosting. This episode, episode as we speak with Rihannon on her journeys of helping those in need, including the special needs right here in our backyard and around the world. If you have a pulse, you will be inspired. Can't wait for you to listen in. This is A Call to Leadership. Rihannon, how are you? I'm great, welcome.
[00:01:23]
How are you guys? Doing well. Hey, Travis. Hey, how are you? Welcome back. I feel like I just saw you yesterday. Hey, you did. Or two days ago. Thanks for being here. Really appreciate you for having me. Appreciate. Oh my goodness. It's a treat for us to have what we call our ministry moments and share the cool things. That are happening through people who absolutely love to serve, love to share, love to find ways. To our second G, we've got a 3G program, if you will. We grow, give, go. Good. And that second G, that giving of the time, talent, treasures. That we're entrusted with. Mm-hmm. By the way, Amen.Right. Uh, they're all alone. Yeah. Right. And the super cool. So we're, we're, we're, we're thrilled that you're here.
[00:02:06] Rihannon Beauchamp
Oh, well, thank you so much for having me. Yes, I am definitely everything you're saying, I keep that in mind every day I even start off my day to day of like, Lord, just use me. You know, use me in any way you can. Like, I don't wanna miss something every day. There's something that God wants us to do, someone to talk to, someone, thing to be used by. Nothing's too small and, you know, nothing's too big. So. I'm excited, but yeah, I mean, I have such a passion for reaching people, ministry, loving on people, and so I'm excited. Where does it come from? It really comes from just, I think growing up and experiencing Jesus at a young age and experiencing and understanding really what he's called me to using every bit, like I've even said too, like using even down to how he's made you look to reach people. You know, like you're just like every single bit, and I want my life to be about that. Truly, like I just, you.
[00:02:53] Travis Revelle
It's inspiring. No, that's great.
[00:02:55] Rihannon Beauchamp
No, I, well I was thinking about that today and um, I was also reading this morning, um, in First John, um, you know, you think of these things we build our life on and these like things that Jesus tells us to do. And um, you know, he says that don't just love with merely words and speech, but love with action and in truth. And that's been something for me that I've really tried to embody in this area of ministry. Reaching people for Christ and just not just talking about it, doing something about it and stepping out in action.
[00:03:23] Dr. Nate Salah
Isn't that Jesus' model?
[00:03:25] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yes.
[00:03:26] Dr. Nate Salah
I mean, think about like wherever he went, right? I mean, people were doing a lot of talking back then.
[00:03:29] Rihannon Beauchamp
I know, right? He was a man of action. Yeah. Yeah. Right. And I wanna be a woman of action. Yeah. I wanna model that for people Yeah. And lead the way. Mm-hmm.
[00:03:38] Dr. Nate Salah
And even sometimes the action is counter-cultural. Right. Because oftentimes he was challenged Yeah. On his actions that he was doing. Like, oh yeah. Oh absolutely. Oh, it's, it's the Sabbath. Sorry. We shouldn't help people. Right. On a day of rest. Yeah, totally. Totally. You're willing to help, help your animals, but not people.
[00:03:57] Travis Revelle
I think it's all these preconceived notions. Right? And I think, you know, religion has caused that, right? Instead of just following just Jesus, right. We follow these religious rules and that's, that's really hampered people's ability to do what they're called to do. Yeah. Which is to help people Right. To love. Right. First of all, radical love. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and I don't think that there is a time or place to not have radical love. Right. Whether it's six o'clock in the morning or you're at Starbucks. Amen. Or you're, you know, you're driving down the road, whatever it is, right? Mm-hmm. Like radical love is radical love. Yeah. And if you're going to embody what Jesus taught us to do, you do that at all times. Yeah,
[00:04:33] Rihannon Beauchamp
Absolutely. And Jesus showed us, I was thinking about that. I think about this every day of like what real love really is, and it's giving your life, you know, he gave his life for us, so we're supposed to give our lives for our brothers and sisters all over. And that's not limited to how somebody looks. That's not limited to what somebody's background is. It's all people at all times, you know? And I think that God puts us in places every day in our everyday lives, or even if you're a business or with your family and you know, you're listening to the power of the Holy Spirit and speaking through you, you have that power and that confidence to be able to like say and reach out, you know? And I love too. I love organizing things and putting things together like as in ministry for people to come and use their gifts and talents. And people to experience that. So like for me, it's been an amazing thing to lead in that way because I know I am making way for, um, I did a summer camp for teens for many years.
[00:05:29]
That was one of my dreams because I, my life was changed through experiencing, um, Jesus in these summer camps, you know, having so much fun and I'm also really competitive. So there was always that, that, and so I got to have a chance, um, years back. To do for five years, put together this experience for teens. And not only was it the teens receiving Jesus, having their life changed, but it was the leaders and the volunteers. You know, my life has been changed through serving, you know, yes. Using gifts and talents and seeing God work through me. So that's been, I guess, a real passion mine, if you can't tell. Yeah.Getting excited about it.
[00:06:06] Travis Revelle
And that's, and it's re, and that's rewarding. Mm-hmm. You know what I mean? And I think that that's also a gift from God to have that. Feeling of accomplishment and feeling that, you know, you've helped somebody. Right? Yeah. Not you've helped somebody become a better person. Amen. And I think that if everybody truly lived that way, right? Like how beautiful would the world be? And I know that's the pathway.
[00:06:26] Dr. Nate Salah
That's it. Yeah. Like, that's the pathway. So we have, uh, our, our leadership experience is called Great Summit. And our, our model is G three. I just mentioned some of those elements. We talk about aiming for greatness, and we know that the traditional model for greatness, power, prestige position, right? Hmm. And it's not just new. Hmm? It's old. Even in scriptures, when Jesus is confronted by James and John or James and John's mom, the sons of Thunder. Pretty ambitious guys, right? To be called. Sons of Thunder, like, bro, seriously. I mean, like, you're like, oh, that's a cool title. That is a cool title. Right? I mean, come on. Like for, for the, I would be mad if somebody called Thunder for Messiah to call you. Like you guys are the Sons of Thunder.
[00:07:07] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yeah. Daughter of Thunder, right? Yeah.
[00:07:09] Dr. Nate Salah
I don't even wanna know what I'd be calling like Raincloud, right? So they come to Jesus. Because they want to have power, prestige position. Mm-hmm. They wanna sit it in his right and left hand when he comes into his kingdom. Right. And so what does Jesus do? He redirects him and he doesn't say, by the way, it's interesting about this, this passage in Mark, uh, 10 43 and Matthew, I wanna say 2020 sixish. Mm-hmm. So he's, he just redirects, he says, in other words, he's not saying, Hey, don't aim for greatness. He's like, let me show you the, the pathway. Lemme show you the pathway to real greatness, right? Amen. Because the world will say, this is the way he says What not. So with you, famously not so with you, the greatest among you. Mm-hmm. The greatest among you is your servant. If anyone wants to be great, learn to serve. And that's what you're talking about.
[00:08:02] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yeah, totally. And it's so backward, like you're saying, from what the world says. And when we just like, like it says, when we lose our lives, right? We lose our lives is when we find true life. And that's exactly what we're talking about. We're losing our life. Yeah. But we're gaining everything. And that's how, just having like an eternal mindset and just thinking too of, you know, we all know the great commission and, and it's. Telling people about Jesus, like playing our part and its purpose. So, you know, we were talking about purpose too, of people be lost or empty or feeling like, what's my purpose? You fulfill it with everything the world says of fill it with, and then you feel empty. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And come on, preach. And you know, I've preach, I've done it too. You know, I've done it too. And you know, I've done it in areas or. You know, had to have times where I had to come to God and be like, what am I doing in this moment? You know, this is not it. This isn't it. This is why I feel empty. This is why I feel depleted. And the more and more just daily. That's why too, like renewing my mind daily and just focusing, and two, just having a humble heart in this and understanding like what yours too. Even the power, the prestigious, things like that come up and even the church world where people get lost and that it's about them.
[00:09:21] Dr. Nate Salah
Right? And this is not about us and I wanna keep my humility and my gorgeous just an exclamation point, right?
[00:09:23] Rihannon Beauchamp
Please keep my heart pure. Like that is like. Truly, truly a prayer in my heart because I don't wanna get into that and wrapped up in that, you know?
[00:09:32] Travis Revelle
Well, I think you said something that's really powerful, right? Like, because I do the same thing every day, I pray and I just ask God. To use me however he can use me. Mm-hmm. Right. Whatever it looks like. Right. I mean, I have my own aspirations, right. My own vision of what I want my life to be. Mm-hmm. But at the end of the day, right, like we all have skill sets. Mm-hmm. We all have life experiences that has molded us and is, and it has, you know, refined us in certain ways. I truly believe, right? Like those skill sets are God's gift to you. So just be open. Mm-hmm. And ask,
[00:10:04] Rihannon Beauchamp
Right? Yeah. Absolutely.
[00:10:06] Travis Revelle
Tell him, you have my heart. You have my body. You have my soul. Yeah. Use me in whatever way you see fit. Absolutely. 'cause at the end of the day. That's as Christians what we should aspire to, right. Being a tool of God to help change the world in any way we can.
[00:10:19] Rihannon Beauchamp
Absolutely. And I, um, you know, I was talking to you guys about Israel and you know, I got to go to Israel and it was, it was just so amazing. I recommend everybody has to go there and I. I was, it was about what you're saying. I had a moment in Gar, the Garden of Gethsemane, and I was just thinking how Jesus had prayed that prayer even in that like, not my will, the I will be done. And then I thought of too, everything that Jesus had gone through. Coming up to that point, and this is like his time of, of the emotional pain and anguish. And I know that two Gs went through physical pain for us, but also the emotional 'cause. He was betrayed, rejected everything that could have possibly to. You know, knock him off the dis assignment really that God had for his life and not to fulfill it because, you know, being fully God fully man, he could have literally decided not to do that for us.
[00:11:13]
And, and when I was thinking on that just too, I just want, you know, we always have times in our lives. It's not just a one time I wanna surrender, it's a daily thing. Like you were talking about one of the Gs to grow, we should be growing daily. And so it was just a cool moment for me 'cause I'd. Thought about two of the things I had been through that the enemy had done in my life. Like I've been through in ministry, I've been through a divorce, and I had a, a ex-husband who had left me, who was also a pastor. And I had to really decide in that moment was I going to, um, let what the enemy had done in this moment. You know, take me away from my assignment. And I was like the, and I was so grateful for just be the Lord and really being able to working my life through that, you know, so I could grow through that and not let it deter me from what I was assigned to do.
[00:12:07] Dr. Nate Salah
You guys are talking about something that is like so central to like the human condition, because humans by nature, we're preservationists We wanna preserve. And where Jesus's model comes in, it's the opposite, right? And it's like, it, it, it, it turns our ideas on what life like should look like. Mm-hmm. Upside down. Absolutely. Yeah. At the same time. They're exactly the pathway to true fulfillment. Mm-hmm. To true sense of significance to to, to massive levels of abundance. And it's the whatever it takes attitude. In fact, I was just looking at our great summit key chain, and it on the back of it says whatever it takes. And that was Jesus's model. It's yours. Oh my gosh. Cool. So he was, he had a whatever it takes attitude. Right.
[00:12:50] Dr. Nate Salah
I love that. I mean, think about like in the garden you were mentioning that. I've, I've, I've just That's cool. Relived this, this scene so many times, you know, in hi in his, in his mind as he's, as he's getting ready to go. Yeah. And, and, and, and commit the most radical act of love ever recorded, right? Yeah. And so the scriptures even. Mention that he was sweating blood. Yeah. Interesting phenomenon. This phenomenon is actually a scientific phenomenon that exists in individuals who documented individuals mm-hmm. Who, who are facing a, a, a, an eminent near death mm-hmm. Experience. And they know it. It's the, the capillaries burst. From the stress. From the stress. And of course with sweat, yeah, it looks like you're, and you are actually sweating blood. So the point I'm making is two points. One, there's some validity in the story. Two, he knew what was getting ready to happen 'cause you don't sweat blood unless you know. Mm-hmm. It's gonna be painful. Mm-hmm. Right. And number three, that he was willing to lay down his own desires. For what God's will was in his life, no matter what. Whatever it takes, it's heavy. It's heavy,
[00:14:12] Rihannon Beauchamp
it's inspiring. I'm, I'm on whatever it takes. Right, right. And um, wow. Yeah, and it's something to remember and something too, to realize that we don't have to do it. On our own strength, you know, we get to draw from that strength. And I remind myself that too, because I get in these, God will speak things to me. I'm like, this is way bigger than I can come up with. This is beyond my intellectual ability. This is beyond my for sure resources financially. And, but the power that if you step out in faith that God has, he can really do something. And, um, something that was really on my heart that, I've always had this dream to preach the gospel in Africa and, you know, we, um, something that, and so I didn't really know for sure like how that would look or it was just some, a desire in my heart when I, since I've been young, you know, and to do missions around the world, you know, I just, ugh, all the people around the world, I love to travel and. You know, learn what different people believe and be able to have real conversations with them and hear what their background is, where they come from, why, how do they believe that? And to help show the truth of Jesus. And so, I started a special needs ministry here, which was incredible. And it's been just an amazing thing from seeing a need.
[00:15:31]
And it's here in St. Louis called Born to Shine, and it meets at my church, at Faith Church. And um, so we should get into that, talk about that, but also what led me to do the thing with. Africa it, I didn't know that it would come through the special needs and disabilities. And, um, getting to speak to those families who believe that they're cursed, that is a known thing that they said, I'm cursed, um, and my child is this way. And so I'm cursed by God what they're being told. And when I heard that it. Truly broke my heart. And to think that if I could do something about it, you know, and I, sometimes it's way bigger than what I think. I don't know. You know, you just, I was like, well, what can I do? And so even here with the, um, the families here, I just like, well, let's throw a party. Like, you know what? One thing I'm good at, it's throwing a party and having fun. And, but the whole focus of it is. Jesus. I wanted them to know that God sees them, that Jesus sees them, Jesus cares. And when we think of these dreams, and I'm sure there's so many people listening right now, that you have a dream so much bigger than yourself and that's good.
[00:16:37]
It's good. It's good to have that. It's good to step out in faith and have people that come around you. 'cause I mean, I'm still in a beginning phase and that in a way where I am taking some. Faith moves and just trying to, you know, doing it. But I think that's what's important of how to follow God and that's why she has such an exciting journey. 'cause you know, we're talking a lot about. Making a difference. We're talking a lot about purpose and the truth is that we all have a, like a God shaped hole in our heart of like a, we need Jesus, but we also are made, all made for it to make a difference. So when you start using the gifts and talents, when you start being like whatever it takes, and having that mindset. It's like everything changes and you feel that fulfillment and you really don't know it until you just step out and you just do it.
[00:17:21] Travis Revelle
Hmm. And I think, I think, you know, so I guess it was a couple weeks ago, the church that we go to, Right? Yeah. Pastor, pastor, uh, David talked about faith, right? Yeah. And just moving forward, right? Mm-hmm. And just having that faith. Um, but I think a lot of times with what you're talking about, you don't even realize how far you've come because you're just focused on that next step, next step, next step, next step. Until you take a step back and you look, I. From a 10,000 foot view. Yeah. Where God has brought you. Amen. Right. And so I think a lot of times it's always, you know, the journey of 10,000 miles starts with one step. Right? Right. Like I think a lot of times people get so afraid to take that step and I just challenge them, right? Like mm-hmm. Just do it right. Like. What's the worst case? That worst thing that can happen, you're a step further. You know what I mean? Right. Just keep moving forward. Right? Yeah. You're not in hell, you're going through it, right? Mm-hmm. And just keep moving and like you said, you don't know how it's gonna happen, but it's going to happen. Mm-hmm. You have that vision, you have that dream. Mm-hmm. And you have the faith to back it up. And I know it's gonna happen for you, and that's amazing. Amen. Well, awesome. Mm-hmm. So what, what, what, what took you to Africa?
[00:18:31] Rihannon Beauchamp
Africa? I, um, it, well, really, I just had gone for my 40th birthday, um, in. September and I was, you know, like I said, I always felt this call to do something and I didn't know what it was. And I was saying, you know, I think I'm just gonna start reaching out to. Trying to find a home of children with disabilities I knew was I could partner with and yeah. You know, take Born to shine over and start just dreaming on ways I could help. And so I just started praying. But also, you gotta like do something too while you pray. Like you're saying, like consistency, action, putting yourself in. So I'm, you know. You know, we were talking about like being up at night and like, you know, the wheels are turning, looking at stuff like, so I was just looking through social media and I'm like, I gotta find, so how am I not finding anything? Asking friends that I know in ministry, doing all the things. Mm. And I had, um, it's so neat 'cause this, um, home, like it was exactly everything that I had thought of, that I was really on my heart to look at this. These couple that I knew from literally, I hadn't talked to him in 15 years probably because we were just at a church together in Texas. So I was at a church in Texas in like Dallas area and I it, I didn't even know if you ever had on Facebook, you don't even know you're still friends. And then they pop up in your timeline. And it was nothing like we had nothing beef or any No, it is just like, oh wow. And they were literally at this place.
[00:20:04]
And I also, I kid you, I had this, I was looking around and I kept looking up Aha. And God always does this with me and I always know kind of he's speaking when I'm starting to look at things and I don't know why I'm looking at 'em. And I kept looking at Aha. Kept looking at it, what's in aha. I'd known someone too that I had gone there and I'd saw, I'm like his photos too at one point, but then I was looking, looking, looking. So anyways. That is how kind of that came about. But it, and so then I saw this, I just contacted, Hey, I wanna do this party for you. And from that it's come become now this relationship that I have also was connected to this um, church called Calvary Temple. And I got to meet with their pastor like just the other day. And we had this amazing conversation. And he was like, wow, I feel like this is also something like a divine interaction for him to me. And I was like, really? Wow. Like, you know, but you know when God just starts putting all the things together. Um, so that's why too, in that, and I think understanding too, the whole people thinking that they're cursed, that is not true.
[00:21:08]
You know, you're just like, if there's something I can do about it, I'll just try to do what I can do and, and mobilize others to come alongside. And so. I, I think that is what had led in that way. But it was also, I know I'd mentioned you before, you know, sometimes you have a general direction from God and he hasn't given the specifics. But stepping out in faith you find in the general, and then it led to the specifics of the actual place. So that's been exciting for me. 'cause I thought, wow, like I actually have a specific, now I have faces to the people that, and we're working on like a. Finding things like a water filtration system for them. Like just things of just trying to figure it out day by day.
[00:21:50] Dr. Nate Salah
That's awesome. It's, uh, it reminds me of when Jesus was talking about, uh, you know, who's sinned. I was asked, he was asked, uh, when someone, I was a leopard, possibly. Mm-hmm. And they were like, well, who's sinned? Father? Parents, parents, parents, parents, parents, whatever. You know, that's the natural sort of thought. And Jesus is like, it's not that at all. It's just this is this, this is an opportunity. To make God known. Yes. That's why, that's why we're here. Don't look so much at like, oh, who made the mistake? Right, right. Mm-hmm. Right. Let's look at the power of God right here and now. Mm-hmm.
[00:22:21] Dr. Nate Salah
That's, that's what we need to be focusing on. Yeah. Yeah. Not the why. Yeah.
[00:22:25] Rihannon Beauchamp
How we're gonna make it better. Yeah. Yeah. And I didn didn't, what's the opportunity? Yeah. And I didn't realize too how many, there were a lot of Muslim families in Tanzania and to be somewhere where is. I think the statistic is like 70% now or 75%. Uh, Muslim beliefs. So you're like, wow, this is exactly what I'm being called to a place where they really do need to hear the gospel, you know, the good news, the truth, and in a loving way. And someone said, I asked the pastor, I said, how? How do you take somebody from, you know, really encountering an understanding that the truth. Finding the truth? And he was like, the relationship.
[00:23:07] Rihannon Beauchamp
Mm-hmm. And I love that. And it's so true. Through relationship, through you loving them, believing in them where they're at. And that's to what's so awesome about Jesus. That's what I love too about our church is that, um, we really are arms wide open to people. Yeah. And knowing you, like you don't have to clean up and get your act together, then come to God. Like, that's not the way it is. No, it's not Right. But people do think that they put it off and they think, well, I'll do this when this, I'll do this, when this, and Jesus is saying, no, just right now. Just do it as you are. Be consistent. Try it out. Come to me because I love you.
[00:23:40] Dr. Nate Salah
Yeah. Church. Church isn't, church isn't the, the, the fancy new car lot. When all the fan, the new brand new Porsches are in the behind the glass. Mm-hmm. It's the repair department. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. That's church, church, church. Where you look fan. We got like, I got leaks here. Right. This isn't working right. This is knocking, right? Yeah. Yeah. There's in fact there is no such thing. Yeah. As a shiny new vehicle, I. Jesus. Right? Mm-hmm. The only, the, the shine is Jesus, were clothed in his righteousness. Mm-hmm. That's the shine. That's the shine. Interesting. You said something else I wanna bring up. You talk about ministry and oftentimes y you, your description is really important because you described this process of ministry and a lot of people think, oh, you know what? I have to like be doing this or going there to be in ministry. And in fact, it happened to me when I was, uh, a new believer. I went and told my wife, I said, well, I need to go to seminary now and become a pastor. And so I started seminary and taking classes and whatnot. And she goes, well, you know, and I was new. And she said, you know, maybe you should, um, and you, you know, you said you wanted to get your MBA, why don't you pursue your MBA and let your, let some time pass so that you can hear from God? And in that time passing, I, my spiritual maturity increased and I realized, okay, ministry. I thought I needed to go and do all this to be in ministry. Yeah. And I realized that ministry was not a destination, it was an orientation.
[00:25:06]
Amen. It wasn't a place to go. It was a person to be. We're ministers of reconciliation everywhere. Our feet are planted. Yeah. And that's what you're talking about. Yeah. You're like, Hey, you know what? Right here in my backyard. Yeah. I can love on people. Mm-hmm. I can love on the special needs. Yeah. And then as the Lord leads me, okay. You know what? I'm in discovery, right? Yeah. This is part of the leader. This is part of the leadership model, right? Discover, influence, achieve, and you're like, okay, you know what? I'm starting to see some clarity on some specifics, right? And you're taking action day by day. Don't think if you're listening now, don't think that because I haven't pursued this or I haven't gone there, I haven't accomplished this or gotten that degree that I'm not being called right now. Right now. So good. To do good, to love radically for whoever God is putting in my path.
[00:25:58] Rihannon Beauchamp
That is so good because you don't, God will qual he doesn't. We, I've heard this saying so much. He doesn't call the qualified, he qual qualifies the called and so you Yeah, you, you real. And too, I will say this, sometimes I see a lot of people compare. Like that would be great if I did that. Like you know, even with Africa, oh, I gotta go to Africa to do, and that is not why I went to Africa. You know, we think of the journey of it or something that looks away or is grand. I. That's not what God's looking for. He's really looking for where you're at, what, what he wants you to do. And nothing is small. Everything's so significant of just, and that's why too, we have to sometimes not be intimidated and think that it has to look away like we're what we do. Like even the person that I think, we have this guy that dances at our parking lot at church, at Earth City campus. And so, yeah, I don't think image, I'm the campus pastor at Earth City at Faith Church, and. He is amazing you guys because he has this joy, he's got the dancing things and he's doing it, you know, and we have people come in and they're like, I saw Ronnie in the parking lot dancing. And I mean, that's his ministry. You know, people probably too, a lot of times are maybe even fighting with their spouse in the car on the way.
[00:27:17]
Then they see Ronnie dancing, they're like, I gotta get my thing together. He's got the joy of the Lord and, or I've done it too where I'm just in, not in a good mindset on my way to church and I'm like, Lord, what? Am I doing? You know, but anyways, um, so we just think on, even just understand you're making such a huge difference in there with people. And I think of people that come and serve at Born to Shine and come and serve at our church. And I'm just seeing, like I texted my friend before this and he's gotten really involved and I, this touched my heart because he's a business guy, got really involved with the special needs ministry. He found a, um. A person to pour into. 'cause a lot of times people are like, well, what do I do when I'm here? Like, I need something to do. I need to, you know, fill the food plate or I need to, I said, you know what people need is to be seen by you. Some people are like by me, like, what am, what difference am I gonna do? But I'm telling you, it is something about it when you can, like, just have fun with them, make a relationship with him. And it was really neat because I had gone to the hospital recently to visit. Um, this boy that was having surgery that's in Born to Shine and my friend was, that has been serving, he was there when I went visiting. So he'd formed this connection through the serving and through him just following the steps and realizing I'm making a difference because I'm there for people and I'm being the hands and feet of Jesus.
[00:28:38] Dr. Nate Salah
And he's authentic. Yes. He's being authentically him. Like it doesn't take a ton of extra effort when you're just walking in the genius that God's already given you. Yes. Right.
[00:28:48] Travis Revelle
Well, again, I think, I think people, they like what you said and what you said. Like they put all these preconceived notions, right? Yeah. It's gotta be a grand trip. It's gotta be over here. It's gotta be, I I'm not good enough. Right? Like we have all this self-doubt and you can do it today, right now, right? Like, just try to make somebody's life a little bit better. It could be a kind word, right? Yeah. There's so many, yeah. A text message. Exactly. Like a smile, you know, like just be the person you. Need to have back to you. Mm-hmm. You know what I'm saying? Like, just, just be that person. It's so easy.
[00:29:21] Dr. Nate Salah
Yeah. It's so easy. It's so easy. It's shouldn't, it's not, uh, it's, it's the, the yoke is light. Yeah. Right? Mm-hmm. The burden is easy. Yeah. Already did all that heavy, heavy lifting, you know what I mean?
[00:29:28] Rihannon Beauchamp
It, it's, it's, it's just, yeah, absolutely. I think a lot of people get really just, and I have too myself. You get distracted sometimes and we do. The devil is. His little tricks, you know, is to distract, distract, get us focused on ourselves or other things, or even. Things that are just not in the will of God and or even insecure. Or maybe too, let's be real. PE people are going through things, people are going through grief, divorce, they're, I mean, the list goes on and on. Believing God for healing and I. It can be distracting getting into our emotions of those things. And they're real things, you know, we know God is near to the brokenhearted. We know that he is right there with us being saying, be strong, be courageous. Don't be afraid. You know, we know these scriptures that we're having to remind ourselves of it, you know, when we get in those. So as we're going through that, I know that helped me when I was going through divorce and going through just a betrayal and I was in, in front of like, keep in mind in front of like all these people I'm in front of.
[00:30:32]
Thousands of people at one place, thousands of people at the place we were at before. And I know, I knew I only could receive healing from Jesus. And it was hard for me too. 'cause it wasn't really anything I had done and for no reason. It was just being left. And you know, you go through abandonment and having to deal with those things, but I was trying to really focus on Jesus. And what I'm saying is if you're going through something, if you fix your eyes on Jesus and not getting too like. The unforgiveness trap. Don't get into the bitterness trap because let's be real, those emotions come up. But it does just if you can be aware, like you know, if you're going through this. Okay, so the Lord told me, and during that I was like, guard your heart from bitterness. And I'm just like, okay, well I'm not bitter. You know, you're like, I'm not bitter. And then all of a sudden the holy Spirit's like, look up the definition of bitter. And then I look it up and I'll never forget it, you guys, and it said it was the anger and disappointment of being treated unfairly. Check. And you're like, oh my gosh. If you could have liked, then you start weeping, Lord, if like, you could put it in a sentence. And, but then I was like, you know what? I don't wanna do that. I wanna forgive, I wanna, and it's not an easy path, it's an ongoing thing like you were talking about, like keeping understanding all of that is being said.
[00:31:50]
Not distracting tho those things, the hurts and pains we face in this world, like, you know, Jesus says, you know, take heart. I've overcome the world. In this world you will have trouble. You know, but tho and you, we talked about the garden of Jesus in the garden, like he'd even experienced a lot of these things in his time here as man. And he overcame all that for us. So we can try to keep our eyes and our focus fixed on Jesus. I know that has saved me from, and I'm not in here acting like I'm little Miss Perfect. Have all the answers, but you know, I try to talk to God and have these things that navigated me through hard times, you know, and it just keeping your fo like, I was like, oh man, I don't wanna like affect my assignment. I wanna do what I can do. I think some things are out of our control, but then some things we can, what can I control in this? You know, that like, yes, this may be outta my control, but what can I control right now? Meaning, giving to God, leaning on him and trying to do it his way.
[00:32:48] Dr. Nate Salah
There's so much we can't control and there's a very, very few things we can. Yeah, and really, one of the things I always say, you can, you can, a lot of things you can't control. You can control your attitude. That's one, but, but the one we're talking about right now is where your eyes are pointed. You know, because where your eyes are pointed is the direction you're going, and if your eyes are pointed back at the trouble, right, all you're gonna do is trip over what's in front of you. Yep. And if your eyes are pointed on Christ mm-hmm. Look, it's gotta be your true north. We're just locked in. It's gotta be's true north.
[00:33:18] Travis Revelle
It's your true north. Right. That's good. That's your compass. That's where the compass is, is is telling you to go. Yeah. That's it. Eyes forward. Yeah. You know, and a lot of times, like, especially in the situation that you're talking about, right? Mm-hmm. Like, you know, when people have hurt us, right? We take it personally, but a lot of times it has nothing to do with us. Mm-hmm. Absolutely. It has everything to do with that other person and the choices that they've made, and we can't control that, right? Mm-hmm. We cannot control how other people feel about us, how other people treat us. That is outside of our control. What we can control is how we view ourselves. Mm-hmm. The self-worth that we have with our within ourselves. Yes. And what we do with our lives. That's our responsibility. Mm-hmm. If somebody doesn't like me or somebody doesn't like the things that I say, I. It really has very little to do with me.
[00:34:04]
It has to do with something that they have. Mm-hmm. It's, it is their issue. Mm-hmm. Right. And so I've had to learn, like over the years, right? I used to really take everybody's perception of me was my reality of myself. Ooh. Mm-hmm. And that is, that is a miserable way to live because you are never, you're never gonna be enough, right? You're never gonna be, no matter what you do, you're never gonna be enough. So finally, right, like it's taken, I mean, it's, I'm 45, so it's taken me a long time to learn this. Um, but at this point in my life, like I've realized that like if somebody doesn't like me for some reason, now, if I've done something wrong, okay, I'll apologize. Right. Like, I'll own my mistakes. Mm-hmm. But like. Most of the time, like it's something that, that's their problem that they're going through. Mm-hmm. And they're projecting it onto me and I just, I can't get caught up in that.
[00:34:51] Dr. Nate Salah
It's your problem. That's what, that's the thing, you know, it's, it's, it's true. It's, it's, it takes some time mm-hmm. To develop that. It just, all this talk, it's just, we got like, but seven, eight good sermons. Even in this, in this time. We got so far, oh, look at this. It reminds me of Peter when he was, when he stepped outta the boat. Yeah. Right. Because that's life. Life is rocky waters. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Life is all kinds of challenges. And what does, you know, what does Jesus say? Come to me. Right. He's got his eyes locked on Jesus. Mm-hmm. And then what happens? What happens to Peter? He's like, yeah, he looks around, he is like, oh, shucks, I'm walking on water. And it's crazy and it's, and it's, and, and stuff is going on here. Yeah. What does he start doing? He starts sinking. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Right. Took his eyes on the true north. This is this, this? Yeah. This is the analogy. Mm-hmm. This is the word picture. Of where we're our focus is. Yeah. Because if our focus is on all of the trouble and trial and everything that's going on. Yeah.Don't get me wrong, you have to address it, but keep your eyes locked on
[00:35:46] Travis Revelle
Jesus. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And have faith. Mm-hmm.
[00:35:48] Dr. Nate Salah
Yeah. 'cause then you'll be able to walk on water. Correct. Yeah. Oh, wow. It sounds so crazy. Right? You know what?
[00:35:52] Travis Revelle
Yeah, it is. Yeah. It's crazy. It's crazy.
[00:35:55] Dr. Nate Salah
It's supernatural. And that's the whole thing. He is like, well, I'm not into that supernatural stuff. Well, okay, that's, you know, you do you, but I'm gonna tell you right now that mm-hmm. There's a pathway. That leads you to that. You had mentioned it earlier to that God joy and it reminded me of the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes is you, the Sermon on the Mount where it's really Jesus' opening of his ministry and he goes, he very, I always wonder, you know, I'm, you know, I always think about these things, right? Like, like why would he start here? Right? Why would he start there? Yeah. And it's like he starts his ministry with a word blessed. Yeah. The word he uses, and we've talked about this, the word he uses the Greek is precarious. And the Greek word mear doesn't mean I got the best parking space. I got the best relationships, I got the coolest clothes. My sunglasses are great, my car's fancy. Uh, my, I, I make great money. Mm-hmm. Like, that's not the, now that's the traditional view of blessed in that time and even today. Right. Oh, I'm blessed. Right. The word he uses vicarious is completely opposite of what our idea of blessed is. It means you have a life joy that is not dependent on any, any external circumstances. Let that sink for just a second. Wow. Yeah.
[00:37:07]
Right. He starts his ministry with that word because it is so critical that we get that right early. Let's get that piece right, because if we can get ahold of that unstoppable, unstoppable. That's having your eyes spoke, nothing. Mm-hmm. Nothing. And even that doesn't mean that stuff won't stress you out. You know what? Mm-hmm. For him to sweat blood, he was stressed. Yeah. There's human emotion. That's okay. Yeah. We have to have our grace for that. Right? We have to receive the grace for that. At the same time, at the same time, recognize. Mm-hmm. What is sufficient? What is sufficient force? Even Paul, when he was complaining about that thorn in his side, don't know if it was, if it was physical, if it was mental, emotional, spiritual, whatever it was three times he cried out to God to take away that. Thorn in his side. Mm-hmm. And his response, he said this, he said Jesus spoke to him. Not just that, it was like some kind of like, Hey, I read this in scripture. Jesus spoke to me. He said, my grace is sufficient. My power is made perfect. Mm-hmm. And weakness. If my grace isn't sufficient enough for you, you're gonna be pretty disappointed. But if my grace is a vision and it is, think about that just like, mm-hmm. Like, think about the grace of God that covers everything. Everything you've ever said done thought is sufficient. Everything else is gravy. Like the fact that we woke up, the fact that you can breathe. Mm-hmm. The fact that you can see the fact that we can have this conversation. Right. All that's just gravy. Like literally, like that's gratitude. Magnified in that life joy. Yeah.
[00:38:39] Dr. Nate Salah
That has no bearing on whatever's happening around us.
[00:38:41] Rihannon Beauchamp
Wow. That's powerful. That is a word for many people. That's a word for me. That life joy. And you mentioned the beatitudes. I was thinking too, of how if he started that on it, he also said. Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God. Yeah, and I was thinking about that too and you said it 'cause that's one of my favorite ones about, you know, we're saying eyes fixed on Jesus. And also the importance of keeping our heart pure. You know, there are just, that is a daily deal. You know, in order to, if, you know, we're saying that out of everything, you know, the life, the, everything flows outta the heart. You know, the Bible says, and so it's so important. 'cause if it starts with that and we're, he's saying that, it's like, man, we gotta keep that in check. And realize what that is. And Wow, there's just, that was just so powerful of just that life joy. And I'm gonna write that down too because that is like such a word. And I think too, we were talking about also Peter and what I think about just even stepping out in faith, or we're walking in faith, so it's like. He did take the step in faith to get out of the boat, right?
[00:39:48] Dr. Nate Salah
Yeah. Let's get with So go, Peter. Let's get with that. Yeah. Yeah. Because you're right though, because a lot of people wouldn't even go that far. Right?
[00:39:53] Rihannon Beauchamp
I know. And that's what I was thinking about one of the other, right?
[00:39:56] Dr. Nate Salah
11, no one else got out. 11 like, you do your thing bro. Glad Peter.
[00:40:00] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yeah. I first Peter and I wonder what sometimes do I think of the disciples and you know, if you really look at some of 'em, you're like, man, they were always just questioning. They're just kind of funny and you could really relate to 'em. Um, but you know, I don't know if it's just. Because like Jesus called him, but he got out. So I'm like, well, Peter got out. But it also shows us, when I read that, I'm like, well, once you get out and do your step out, whatever it may be, you still have to fix the eyes like you're saying, because if you don't, I mean you're out, but you're never just. That's not, it's not just like a one-time, Hey, here I am, I'm out.
[00:40:32] Travis Revelle
That's right. No, and in fact, I think it gets even scarier the more you walk, right? Yes. Further out it even more, right? Yeah. But I think that that's why we have to take that step. We have to have that faith. And I don't think Liz, I mean, I, I think the disciples were obviously the disciples, right? And amazing, but. We have the same power that they did. Right? Like, we're the same people. Like we're the, we're, we're the exact same. And when, when you, you know, when everybody tells these stories about Jesus and all the emo, he went through every human emotion you can go through, right. To show that no matter what the world is doing to you, right. No matter what you're going through, you are good enough, you are strong enough, you have everything you need to do, everything you need to do. Mm-hmm. As long as you believe and you have faith that you can do it.
[00:41:17] Dr. Nate Salah
Yeah. Not Jesus plus anything. It's just Jesus. Just Jesus.
[00:41:21] Rihannon Beauchamp
Amen. Just Jesus.
[00:41:22] Dr. Nate Salah
Jesus. Just Jesus. We got like bumper stickers. We got, we know we got all kind of T-shirts.
[00:41:28] Travis Revelle
We got all kinds, the whole merch line coming for that.
[00:41:28] Dr. Nate Salah
Right? Like joy and also
[00:41:30] Rihannon Beauchamp
Like, I'm excited. I'm like, let's do this. Let's go.
[00:41:35] Dr. Nate Salah
As you should be. This is exciting stuff and I'm sure someone listening is like, I'm fired up right now.
[00:41:40] Travis Revelle
Absolutely. And I just wanna know, is there anything that our community can do to help you in, in your calling, in your mission?
[00:41:48] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yeah, absolutely. First to pray. You know, there's so much power in prayer, so much power in prayer, and I. I think too, you know, if anybody has a heart for people with special needs and disabilities, I think maybe even cre, thinking creatively of what you can do in your sphere of influence. Thinking what you can do in your circle of even just being bold. I. Sharing the love of Christ. I think those are things to do. 'cause I'm so like very, very passionate about those things. And also too, you know, I'm definitely gonna be at a point where I'm trying to figure out what the next step is with this specifically. So just, you know, if people have hearts to. You know, donate as we're doing, like we were talking about, even they were gonna measure, this company's gonna measure some of the children and see who needs a device or so, and then this is also going to families that are Muslim.
[00:42:40]
When I think on something like this, and this could really show them who has provided for me. I didn't provide, it wasn't me, it was Jesus. Right? And that's where, that's my, what I want to do through the, the acts. And so I would say just too is. Putting stuff together. If you have a heart to, you know, sow in that way, that's something to be a part of. Um, and yeah, like I would say too, just even this like really pumps me up of like, I just love what's happening here and this is absolute gold in so many different ways. So I. I think too, um, you know, maybe even you're someone that's wants to help and be like, I wanna be a part of that. Like, whoa, you know, even you wanna go or you, when I know I was telling you, I'm like, you need to come to Tanzania. Right, right. That's what me too, I'm always like telling people are, Hey,
[00:43:26] Dr. Nate Salah
Don't be, be careful. I know.
[00:43:29] Rihannon Beauchamp
Well, people always send me, I, it's funny, I've had three different, there's this meme that says like, friends who don't have your friends who don't have kids are like. Let's go to Africa this Friday and I've had three people send me that and I'm like, stamp that passport. And I know I don't, yeah, I know I don't have children right now and but, so I'm in a different season, but you know, when we get into different seasons we have more available. But anyways, I'm getting off the wagon here on you, what you asked. That's great.
[00:43:55] Travis Revelle
We'll, we'll make sure that there's a way for people to contact you. Aw, thank, thank you. That would so much. So we can try to help you in our community. I mean, part of it is, is give, right? Mm-hmm. So, and that would mean a lot. We, we would love to be able to help sow and, and help provide and, and add to. This very noble mission that you're going on.
[00:44:13] Rihannon Beauchamp
Aw, thank you.
[00:44:14] Dr. Nate Salah
Absolutely. There's, there's such a, there's such a, a place in our hearts for, um, for those who are, are, are called to a specific, uh, need. And we don't ever, um, feel. As though there won't be an abundance, we simply must step out, call for the abundance, receive the abundance, live in the abundance, right? Because that's exactly what Jesus said in Matthew, in, in a John 10:10, right? Of course, John 10, nine, gen 10, John 10, and the, the enemy comes to what? Steal, kill, and destroy. Mm-hmm. But I've come, right? Mm-hmm. You should have what? Life abundantly. Mm-hmm. To the full. And so we're calling on that, right? We're calling on that. And, we wanna partner, we wanna partner with those who are, who are. Spreading that third G and that's why he'd mentioned it a couple times. The go is, is just three words, go. Mm-hmm. Love radically. Jesus' love is radical love it flips, love on, its on its head. Mm-hmm. Right. He, I, he even said, you know, if you love those who love you, what good is it? Right. Right. Love those who have never heard of you and, and probably wouldn't have anything to do with you.
[00:45:21]
Right. That's love. Right. And, and the most beautiful act of radical love. That ever could have been demonstrated was when he was pinned in agony to that cross and with the few breaths that he even had in agony prayed. For the ones who not only accused him but were spitting on him. Mm-hmm. And condemning him even in that moment, said, father, forgive them. Not what they do. If he can display that level of radical love, can we do the small things? I would hope so, right? I, I hope so.
[00:46:04] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yes. The answer is yes. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
[00:46:07] Dr. Nate Salah
So we wanna part you partner with you in that. And, uh, so, so you have a trip planned to Africa? Yes, I do. I do. I do. Coming up, I, well, we actually coming up April 1st through the ninth. Mm-hmm. And so I'll be going there and I get to preach at a church and preach in some schools and then do some orphanage visits. And then of course, finding more of the needs, like you were saying, like a discovery phase when you're in a discovery phase of something of. Lord, what would it be? So I just said, well, I'm just gonna go and see more and then we'll put on the parties and mm-hmm. You know, just putting the pieces together. So that'll be really fun. So, yeah, first you like, this is like 25 days, you guys. Woo. It's coming up.
[00:46:48] Travis Revelle
Well I feel like this is like to be continued episode then. We'll, because we definitely need to have you back so you can tell me how it went. Tell us how everything that happened, how our community can help further Absolutely. All the things that you've discovered while you're there.
[00:47:01] Rihannon Beauchamp
Yeah, I'd love that. And I also, we, so for The Born to Shine here that I was talking about, the special needs and disabilities, um, parties here. Um, at Faith Church we meet actually monthly. So if you're in the St. Louis area and you know of a family, please let them know. This is completely free for them to come to. And it's just to bless them, make them feel. They can just be accepted and you know that they're made in the image of God and that, so that we actually have a, we just did one called Under the Sea. It was super cute. Oh, and then, um, we have, and they get dressed up. Everybody does. Just loved it. It's such a great environment of joy and. So we have that coming up and then just updated. So if people that's every month here, you know, in St. Louis. So yeah, definitely anybody can be apart.
[00:47:45] Travis Revelle
Yeah. That's great.
[00:47:46] Dr. Nate Salah
Well, we'll keep you covered in, in our prayers. Yes. And and of course, most importantly, we pray that you are blessed.
[00:47:54] Rihannon Beauchamp
Thank you.
[00:47:56] Dr. Nate Salah
Just as Jesus intended. Thanks for being here.
[00:47:59] Rihannon Beauchamp
Thank you. And you know, I wanted just say too, if you also are listening and you haven't yet found like a church home and you're in St. Louis, we'd love to have you at Faith Church and, would be blessed to just receive you literally with arms wide open big hug. And Ronnie probably dancing in the parking lot, lot. So there's a lot.
[00:48:16] Dr. Nate Salah
We'll make sure that, we'll in the show note how to find you. Thanks again.
[00:48:20] Rihannon Beauchamp
Thank you.
[00:48:22] Dr. Nate Salah
Well, my friend, we did it. I'm so honored you were able to join me on this episode of A Call to Leadership. Now, this might not be for everyone because you really have to be in a certain place in order to take the kind of steps to level up your leadership, and I want you to be taking steps, and for those of you who feel like you're ready for something like this, there's a place you can go. You can go to our website, great summit.com. I'll make sure that's in the show notes. Here's the cool thing that we have. We've got a masterclass. We have all different kinds of events. We even have our leadership club where you can meet other people just like you to go deeper in your leadership journey. You and I'll get to spend some time together and really focus on aiming for greatness. I can't wait to see you there. I'm Dr. Nate Salah, and this is A Call to Leadership.
