Speaker 1:

Welcome to Eden and Amadeus. The podcast.

Speaker 2:

Coming up today on the podcast. Of course we're going to let you hear Battle of the Sexes replays. If you're a trivia fan, you're going to want to stick around for that and play along. We only have four for you this week because one of us decided to take a day off in the middle of the week.

Speaker 1:

Well, next week, when I take two days off.

Speaker 2:

That's right. That's right. Okay, also coming up, we're going to be talking to Connor Halverson. He is a professional bull rider.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Bull riding is coming to Jacksonville this coming weekend, so that's. I'm always fascinated by those guys they have. Can we say balls on the podcast. Yeah, they have balls the size of bowling balls.

Speaker 2:

You know what we also. I kind of wanted to know how his mommy was handling the fact that he's out there riding a bull. And then I guess you're not supposed to put the jinx on people by asking them about injuries for bull riding, but I just couldn't help myself. I had to know. Anyway, I guess I'm just a bad interviewer, but you'll get to hear that coming up with Connor, and it has been more than a week now since we said goodbye to an icon, a country music icon, in Toby Keith.

Speaker 1:

There is some I don't know if you'd even say happy news, but heartwarming news yeah, I would say heartwarming news and this is something that now, with streaming, we can see instantly. When things happen, like when when Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman did that performance on the Grammy's, like the next day she had the number one download. And so Toby Keith now is the number one album in America across all genres, not just country. His 35 biggest hits from 2008 was number one on the Billboard 200. And I think it'll probably stay there for a couple of weeks because you forget about how many amazing, amazing song that he wrote or co-wrote and then recorded. Just, I mean, I'm just so happy for his fans that they can see this. You know love that he's getting receiving after his passing. What a sad, sad. I listened to his music the day after he passed, at my desk while I was working and was just crying all day Like the girl that shares it, and I was like what's wrong with you? I'm like I'm losing the Natobi.

Speaker 2:

It's sad Also not to brush past that. But, man, I think we could spend the entire podcast just talking about all the impact he made. Since we have last had a podcast, the chiefs have won the Super.

Speaker 3:

Bowl.

Speaker 2:

It's a focus, of course, on Taylor Swift, and I loved the video that we played for you of the girl putting it on the other side, saying she went to a Taylor Swift concert and they kept showing Travis Kelsey and he's ruining live music. It was a really funny take on the whole thing.

Speaker 1:

It really was and it made me wonder like are those people that are complaining about her being shown? Are they getting it? Like are you?

Speaker 2:

Do you see how silly it is? It's so silly. But now how are they going to like it if she ever does the Super Bowl halftime show, which, as long as I guess Apple is the sponsor, can't happen right, Probably won't.

Speaker 1:

The rumor is that. So Jay-Z, I guess, is the one that makes the ultimate decision and he doesn't really like her. That's the rumor. But the NFL and the owners really want her to be there for money-wise, and so there's going to be a thing if all these rumors are true.

Speaker 2:

But what is his stake in it? Like who. The sponsor's the halftime show is it? It was Apple.

Speaker 1:

It was or Apple Music or whatever.

Speaker 2:

Oh okay, so he must have some.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I don't quite understand that, but I've also heard that rumor.

Speaker 1:

I don't understand all the politics either. I just saw the story yeah, I think it was on Tuesday morning and I was like, okay, this is weird, because now there's a rumor that Taylor might be doing a song with Beyonce.

Speaker 2:

That would be amazing.

Speaker 1:

Now, if that happens and Jay-Z's in charge of the Super Bowl, like, who do you think is going to be in the Super Bowl?

Speaker 2:

At the halftime show.

Speaker 1:

Beyonce, I hope so I mean could you imagine a dual headlining show with both of them doing first of all their duet, or maybe one opens, then they do the duet and then one closes? I mean that could be a thing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely. That could be a huge thing, and they're both geniuses at dropping new music at opportune times.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely Look at the day after the Grammys with Beyonce and yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 2:

So there's a lot that can be happening there.

Speaker 1:

So you know one thing that we didn't talk about that I want to touch on real briefly. After the Super Bowl and the trophy ceremony did you notice I saw a lot of people talking about this? Taylor waited on the field. She wasn't up on the platform with Brittany, patrick Mahomes' wife. She was waiting with Travis' mom and then when Travis came off the big riser, she stood back. She let the mom hug him first, then the dad and then she like it's kind of like she knew her place. She wasn't trying to be all like, oh, I need to be on the riser, I'm the superstar. She let him have that shining moment and a lot of people were just praising her for just kind of like I don't want to use the word, knowing your role but she let him have his moment, which I thought was really cool. It would have been easy for her to just be like I want to be on the riser.

Speaker 2:

We're unapologetic Swifties here. In fact, one of our coworkers is a huge 49er span and has been his whole life, and he said who are you going for in the Super Bowl? And I said I'm going to tell you, because he's one of the people who is not huge on the whole Taylor Swift thing. I said I got to tell you. It's the chiefs and it is because of Taylor Swift. It is the phenomenon, but it's also because I am now seeing so much of Travis and Jason Kelsey's podcast clips and they're just so adorable and fun.

Speaker 2:

You just want to cheer for them.

Speaker 1:

I think that I'm a Swifty too. I mean, I'll just you know I'm a fan. You're wearing a Taylor Swift shirt, right now I really am, but also seeing Jason like down there in the crowd, not afraid to like take his shirt off and be like the bearded Viking guy Cheering for his brother after he was out. Right. I mean I think he's a man's man, and I think that Travis is too, and I just like those guys.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think they're good boys raised right.

Speaker 1:

I agree with you. Did you see that their mom took him home in her caravan?

Speaker 2:

No, I'm just kidding.

Speaker 1:

The Dodge Caravan. There's a meme of after the game mom driving him home in the Dodge Caravan like their high school kids playing football. Oh okay, I was like what are you talking?

Speaker 2:

about. She did fly regular. I think it was Southwest and they made an announcement and said mom McKelsey is on board.

Speaker 1:

So cool. I just I think that family really is. They got it together and I think they're level headed when they have all the reason in the world not to be, but they're just keeping it together. So there was some really, really exciting movie news that had both of us just like screaming for joy.

Speaker 2:

And it's the casting of Fantastic Four has been announced, finally, finally, finally.

Speaker 1:

And I did not expect to see Pedro Pascal being cast as Mr Fantastic. I gotta be honest with you, I thought it was gonna be Krasinski and his wife, like that made sense. And then they were, of course were in the movie in one of the alternate universes. He was Reed Richards. So that's not gonna happen, I guess.

Speaker 2:

No, evidently not Vanessa Kirby, who is from the Mission Impossible.

Speaker 1:

Mission Impossible the last two movies.

Speaker 2:

Joseph Quinn, who people love, when he was Eddie on Stranger Things, so he's not a name that I instantly knew.

Speaker 1:

Me neither.

Speaker 2:

But when I saw that he was Eddie, I mean talk about a character that just stole everyone's hearts. And then Ebon Moss Backrack, who I gotta say I'm the bear he plays Richie, or they call him cousin, and he's amazing. He is so amazing. He just won the Emmy. He's just fantastic.

Speaker 1:

So I'm excited for him to oh, I see what you did there. He's fantastic.

Speaker 2:

He is fantastic. He's one of four fantastic people that are gonna be in that movie, and he's playing the thing and I really like him.

Speaker 1:

He's been in something else I've seen and I can't place what it is because I recognize his face.

Speaker 2:

Did you see the movie with Jennifer Lawrence where she was? What is it called? The one where she's on it? She's-. You did see it. It's a comedy. It's hilarious. What is it called shoot? It's the younger boy.

Speaker 1:

Oh, what is that? The one where there was a craigslist ad to, basically like to deflower the truck driver and that's what it was. I remember there was something I'd seen him in recently, because I recognized his face.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because we were screaming when we saw him in that we're like.

Speaker 1:

He was really funny in that cousin. But I like that he's playing the thing, because I feel like in the past the thing has always been played by short stocky guys Like that guy from the shield was the thing, yeah, but he's not physically like the thing and I like that he transforms into something different than he is, so I really, really like the casting.

Speaker 2:

I love it.

Speaker 1:

We have to wait with the wait until the summer of 2025, which won't be long. Yeah, don't blink, because it'll be here, we'll be.

Speaker 2:

We'll be sitting in the theaters eating our popcorn, watching the fantastic four, and then there's just one more little thing that we we talked about. I mean, we talked about a lot of things this week on the radio show, but one thing that we enjoyed was the ziploc campaign to get you to start reusing their bags, and the reason I love this. You and I are loving it for different reasons you because you've grown up that way and you do it For me. I just love the fact that they're like people are gonna do this. So why don't we lean in and explain that we're the best option for you to use if you are gonna reuse it, instead of Buying another brand or buying those ones that are specific to be reused? We're the strongest, we last the longest. I think it's just so smart. But you put yours in the freezer which I never heard.

Speaker 1:

My mom did that my whole life. You know, after she uses a ziploc bag, she washes it out, lets it dry, puts it in the freezer, I guess, to keep bacteria from growing in it. Oh and so that's the way I grew up, and so, you know, when I moved out on my own, that's what I do.

Speaker 2:

I keep my ziplocs in the freezer and you know what I'm taking from that. I have a really hard time. Oh you, just, I'm gonna share this online and I'm gonna be the most popular runner in the world. Okay, I have a really hard time with my running water bottles because you empty them out and it take its heart for little bottles To clear out enough to not get mold and I'm constantly having to get that little kind of brush.

Speaker 2:

I have little dots of mold out. I'm gonna start, after I use them, rinsing them and keeping them in the freezer great idea.

Speaker 1:

It's a great idea. Never thought about that because you know, I guess, that that frozen atmosphere keeps the bacteria out. Yeah, do it.

Speaker 2:

I'm all about it, so smart.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, my mom was smart way before. Smart was a thing, but my mom's like, so country like and a lot of people, a lot of those country folks. They're not super educated like in a college, but it's just all common sense stuff.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, lots of that. And mom adidas has loads of common Probably enough common sense to not ask a bull rider how many injuries he sustained and to tell us about them. So so, with no further ado, professional bull riding is coming to town. I'm sure it's coming to a town near you if you aren't in Jacksonville, and we spoke with like the shining star the upcoming star in bull riding, and that is Connor Halverson. How you feeling?

Speaker 4:

I'm doing good. How are you?

Speaker 2:

We're real good. Is it feeling pretty early in the morning for you right now? Where are you?

Speaker 4:

I'm in brass.

Speaker 1:

Oh wow, what time is it there? I have no one.

Speaker 2:

Well, thank you for getting up so early to talk to us.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we do appreciate that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, do you wake up a key?

Speaker 4:

I mean yeah, sort of, I mean B. I usually, you know, try to make it to the gym, you know, a couple of times during the week when I'm home, just to just to keep my body and and in shape and and limber as possible. So so it can, you know, withstand the wear and tear.

Speaker 1:

What is this place? You speak of the gym. I.

Speaker 2:

I'm familiar, curious, what you know, because we never really talk about that. There are a lot of athletes out there that you don't think about that have to really work out, even race car drivers. Exactly because of the the effort that it takes. So you know that's, that's huge. What are some of the workouts you do? Is it just like heavy lifting, or do you have to do a lot of cardio?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I usually just mainly do a cardio and really lightweight, you know, just to Just to keep in shape really, and you know, stay, stay tone. You know I don't really do a lot of heavy lifting, if any at all.

Speaker 1:

Connor, I was reading how you built your own a drop barrel when you were like eight years old, so you knew at a very early age you were gonna do this. How did you go about building your own drop barrel? What was that whole process?

Speaker 2:

and also what to drop barrel.

Speaker 4:

Um Well, it's a barrel that consists of it's kind of like on a platform with springs and all that. It just goes up and down, and you know I still use one to this day, so it's a tool that most more writers use to you know practice their form and you know the moves that we need to make without actually getting on a real bull.

Speaker 1:

That's amazing that you knew, though, at eight years old and then had the insight to go on YouTube and learn how to build it, and build it yourself. That's pretty impressive.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, no, I had. You know, my family helped me build it and stuff, and it's just something that I knew I wanted to do at a really young age.

Speaker 2:

Well speaking of your family. Is anybody else in your family a professional bull rider?

Speaker 4:

Nope so what?

Speaker 2:

and what did they think about this? Because you know you've got, you've got a very nice face, but we've seen it with some cuts and some some bruises on it.

Speaker 3:

And.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure that's not the only injury you've suffered. So what do they feel about this?

Speaker 4:

No, they're really supportive and you know they they enjoy when they get to come and watch me and you know they've supported me this whole way.

Speaker 1:

What do you do like on your downtime? What are you like? You have favorite music or movies. What's like. What's your personal life like?

Speaker 4:

You know, I kind of seem to do a little bit of everything, just depending on the time of year. You know, when I'm back home, you know I might, might do a little hunting, you know, or fishing, or you know, just just kind of whatever is going on that time of year, I'm usually out doing something.

Speaker 2:

Do you have any other friends that decided to go the way like I'm talking about, like from high school, that decided to go the way you did and do this? I mean, surely buddies wanted to come over and get on that drop barrel.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, nobody around here really that decided that they wanted to ride ride bulls. You know, I'm the only one really around here that chose that path.

Speaker 2:

How old are you, Connor?

Speaker 4:

22.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so you're really young, so you know, I don't know if there are even bars that still have bull ride. You know the mechanical bull, but I was just wondering if you've ever had that opportunity kind of how like when a professional singer will go in and do karaoke and blow the bar away, if you've ever done that where you've gone to a place with a mechanical bull and, just like, competed against amateurs.

Speaker 4:

No, I've never. Never went into a bar to compete on a mechanical bull.

Speaker 1:

I just actually my mom. My mom just turned 79, but when she was 66, there was a bar here in town a local bar that had one and she got on it and rode and rode pretty well for a 66 year old. So maybe you could take her on some time.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, she should probably beat me. I feel like I fall off those things a lot easier than I do a regular bull.

Speaker 2:

Well, I also bet she was pretty achy the next morning.

Speaker 1:

I don't even want to know, although she was pretty loose that night, so it made it a lot easier for her.

Speaker 2:

How many bones have you broken, if I could ask?

Speaker 4:

I know that's probably bad luck, but yeah, I'm just going to say not very many. Oh good, All right. Well, I don't want to be. Yeah, don't jinx it.

Speaker 2:

Listen, my husband would be so mad at me for asking you that question anyway, because you know it's like icing the kicker. You can't, you can't say that.

Speaker 1:

You can't say he's currently ranked 22nd in the world, so don't be, don't jinxing him.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, don't be jinxing him.

Speaker 1:

So, speaking of ranking, where are you for coming into Jacksonville next weekend for the PBR here?

Speaker 4:

I'm not for sure. I really try not to pay attention to any of that.

Speaker 1:

So you really just do it for the passion. You're not like out trying to be number one necessarily.

Speaker 4:

Well, all right, that's for sure the goal of that, that's. That's, you know where everybody wants to be, but they'll tell you when you're number one, and so you know. I usually just try not to focus on where I am in the standings, just to you know, just to not keep that added pressure on myself, because it usually seems like when I do I put too much pressure on myself and, you know, stuff kind of starts falling apart. So I just, you know, roll with it.

Speaker 1:

I can relate to that, because for the last several years, when the ratings come out, I'm like don't tell me the ratings, just tell me, do I get to come back tomorrow morning? Yeah, that's all I really want to know.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and you got to and I, as a runner, I kind of feel like that, because you got to be in the mile you're in right at that moment. So you're probably like this is the bowl, this is me and this is the moment I care about just right now.

Speaker 4:

Yep, Yep exactly.

Speaker 1:

Well, pbr Unleashed the Beast, comes to Jacksonville, back to Jacksonville February 23rd and 24th and we cannot wait to see you, conner, to do your absolute best and hopefully finish. I know you finished fifth in New York in January, right, so we're looking for a really, really great finish for you here in Jacksonville.

Speaker 2:

Well, sometimes people go to these events and they don't have a dog in the fight. They don't have anybody. They, specifically, are rooting for and cheering for and getting excited to see. So, for those people, this is your man, this is your guide, this is if someone says who you going for, this is it.

Speaker 1:

We are fully endorsing. We're on team Conner, Exactly Okay. Did you jinx him?

Speaker 2:

I hope not, I'm certain not he, by the way, he's got a pretty face, so I'm sure that people don't want to keep seeing it banged up.

Speaker 1:

When we were looking at pictures of him before we interviewed him, I showed you one with like a cut and stitches on his cheekbone.

Speaker 2:

I'm like no, he's so cute. I hate that.

Speaker 1:

I think that what's the kid's name that I said could play him in the movie.

Speaker 2:

It looks like Zac Efron.

Speaker 1:

Zac Efron could totally play him in a movie.

Speaker 2:

Yes. Like totally so yeah he's a good or he could play a young Zac Efron.

Speaker 1:

He's a good-looking boy, that's for sure.

Speaker 2:
