SIX THE MUSICAL'S Terica Marie joins us!

Speaker 1:

Welcome to Eden and Amadeus the podcast. This is a bonus episode. We had an opportunity to chat with one of the cast members of Six, the musical, which is here in town this week in Jacksonville, Florida, but might be touring in a city where you live, so we wanted you to know that it is amazing.

Speaker 2:

It's great to live in a city like Jacksonville where these touring Broadway shows come through, because you wouldn't maybe expect someone like me to love Broadway shows, but I love music and I do love musicals like movies. So Broadway shows I mean. When I was a kid, in high school I did acting, so I get the whole stage thing. I love them.

Speaker 1:

I love them so much I did acting, so I get the whole stage thing. I love them. I love them so much. Well, I know that there's still a chance for you to go, but I was able to go with my daughter last night and we were holding off on this podcast until I could tell you that I went to see it. And let me tell you, this is a musical that is so fast paced it's over before you even know it started. You're like, oh, that's it.

Speaker 1:

You know that's not the case for all musicals. I love musicals. I wish they would last forever and ever, but I've been to some where you can see people kind of moving around in their seat. This one has no intermission and it's 80 minutes long. We were home by 9.30, and it started at 7.30. It was fantastic.

Speaker 2:

I can appreciate that, like I appreciate a good 90-minute movie.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I appreciate that, like I appreciate a good 90-minute movie Tell the story in three acts get in, get out. But this was one long act. It's so great. It's these six wives of Henry VIII and they're having kind of a battle to decide who had it the worst, because that's who's going to get to be the lead singer of their band. It's a lot of fun, and we are now going to be joined by Terica Marie.

Speaker 2:

We're going to talk all about Six, but real quick, I want to ask you about a song you did L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole on your Instagram page. Who's playing bass on that? Because she is epic.

Speaker 3:

Isn't she? She's literally one of my biggest inspirations. That's our bass player. Bessie on the bass is what her character name is in the show, but her name is Sterling Turmine and she's phenomenal Literally the coldest bass player I've ever met in my entire life.

Speaker 2:

When someone can play the bass like it's a guitar, like Keith Urban does that and it always blows me away and when I watched that video I was like what the hell?

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, oh yeah. She's epic at what she does and I think, the most inspiring thing about Sterling since we've been on tour, she's always made it a mission of hers to explore the music scene in every city that we've gone to, and I kid you, not every time we go out or go to a different music place she asks the people who are playing the venues that we're at like, hey, can I hop in? And she hops in, like she's been a part of their band from beginning. That's amazing.

Speaker 2:

She's amazing when you guys did the NPR Tiny Desk video too. Just watching her on keyboards, I'm like this girl can do anything.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, we call her a prodigy. She's literally multi-talented in so many different areas. She went to school for composition and she's literally just like amazing. She taught me how to build my own home studio, because I'm a recording artist as well, and I was like I want to figure out how to do this on my own. And here comes Sterling with all the knowledge.

Speaker 2:

Well, I'm in love with her.

Speaker 3:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

It's an all-female cast, so the whole band is female, correct?

Speaker 3:

Yes, well, it's female, non-binary. Yeah, okay, gotcha Both in the binary um the cast and the band as well.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so cool. So for those who don't know about six and I'm not claiming like I know everything about it, I just know that since it was on broadway and not touring, I was like when is this going to be touring? Because I had so many friends that had been to see it and then, um, I didn't. I like I said it feels like it's fast that it came here, but I mean I I literally knew a year ago and could not wait. So the year went by fast, I guess is what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

My point is let's tell everybody or you tell everybody what goes on, because it's a little bit different than just your average musical.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, I'd say it's completely different than the average musical. This musical, essentially, is about the six wives of Henry VIII, and the wives are telling a story about the marriages that they've had with Henry VIII from their point of view. But the twist on it is the wives are essentially competing to see who had the worst marriage with Henry VIII, and so we each take turns showcasing why we think our marriage was the worst. And then we do a little flip on its head towards the end and you'll see that once you come and see the production. But essentially it's a pop musical and we're wearing these awesome costumes and it's literally our band. It literally looks like we're a pop group going on tour and it's a fun time. And the biggest thing that we love to tell people is audience interaction is always encouraged. We think of our audience as the seventh queen, and so when they're living their best life, so are we on stage.

Speaker 2:

We were just watching some footage. Eden was showing me and I was saying this is so audience participation. This is a show that I would love.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, oh yeah. It's not a show without the audience. If there's no audience participation, we just end up calling it a rehearsal at that point.

Speaker 1:

So we need them for sure to have a good time. This is a show for, I mean, female empowerment is obviously a big message right now, but it's more about, like everybody, empowerment, don't you think?

Speaker 3:

A hundred percent. I think the biggest message that I personally take away from this production is that it's very beautiful and very and we encourage. This musical encourages people to be themselves unapologetically. There's something beautiful about everybody's story and you should not apologize for it and you should feel proud about it, and I think this musical does a really good job at showing that. Like, although all these queens were married to the same man, they all experience different stories with this person and it's all a powerful message that each one of these queens are bringing forth, and we all in this world have our own positive and powerful message that we can share as well.

Speaker 1:

I cannot wait. I just cannot wait. So you're actually concluding your run with the show. What's next for you?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so, like I said previously, I'm a recording artist, so I am moving to Atlanta and doing my music there and, you know, taking my career to the next level. In regards to that, I have music now out available on all streaming platforms. My latest single that I just released is called Gift of Today, so if you have time, go ahead and give it a listen. But yeah, that's what I'll be doing, so you can catch me in a city near you performing my own original music.

Speaker 2:

I love Gift of the Day. I was listening to that before I came into the studio. Oh, thank you. I don't like comparing artists to artists, but I was getting some Anita Baker vibes from that. Like just that old school.

Speaker 3:

Listen, you can compare me to Anita Baker any day. That is a huge compliment. I really appreciate that.

Speaker 2:

I mean, it was just that old school really really good R&B. I was loving it. I can't wait to hear the entire album.

Speaker 3:

Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.

Speaker 1:

We are a firm believer that when we talk to somebody we don't know when we're going to hear about or see them next. And you know we'll hold on to this, so that when everybody's talking about you we're like, oh yeah, well, we knew Terrica back when you know she was Not, that it's any small potatoes to be torn with it.

Speaker 3:

Y'all got my number. Yeah, you have my number so you can call me and talk to me again when the time is right.

Speaker 1:

Well, we know that there are a lot of people that are going to rush out right now to get their tickets to see you in Sixth the Musical, and you're Anna of Cleves right.

Speaker 3:

Yes, I am wife number four, Anna of Cleves. You will see me in red All right Awesome.

Speaker 1:

Terica safe travels to you and break a leg and we can't wait.

Speaker 2:

And tell Sterling I'm going to be keeping my eye on her.

Speaker 3:

I sure will. I sure will. Well, thank you guys so much for taking up the time to speak with me today. You guys have a wonderful rest of your day, you too. Thank you, bye-bye.

Speaker 1:

Bye-bye. So if Six the Musical comes to a city near you, it is a great watch, a great cast. Everybody rocks. Terica Marie, as a matter of fact, is a showstopper.

Speaker 2:

Oh nice.

Speaker 1:

She's incredible. Thanks everyone for joining us.
