#142 - How Zeolite Binds Heavy Metals For Detox Support
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You can’t “detox” your way out of modern life, but you can stop letting toxic load run the show. We dig into zeolite, a natural mineral often called a “boiling stone,” and why it has become one of the most talked-about detox supplements for binding heavy metals and environmental toxins.
Evan Patrick sits down with Centurion Health founder and CEO Troy Duell to unpack what detoxification actually means in the body. We talk about why the liver, kidneys, lungs, and gut are already working around the clock, and what happens when exposure from processed food, unfiltered water, air pollution, and chemicals like glyphosate stacks too high. Troy explains why symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, hormonal imbalance, and getting sick often can sometimes be linked to overload and why support should be about helping your body do what it already does.
From there, we get practical about how zeolite works: a negatively charged, cage-like structure that can bind positively charged toxins in the gut, including heavy metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic. We also cover what to look for when shopping, including particle size, purification, and testing, plus important safety considerations such as avoiding inhaled forms, watching for medication interactions, and understanding potential Herx reactions.
Finally, we share why we built a broader detox support blend at Centurion Health, combining zeolite with ingredients like chlorella, spirulina, alpha lipoic acid, NAC, L-glutathione, milk thistle, and shilajit to support both binding and liver detox pathways. Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s curious about heavy metals and detox, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

Who Zeolite Helps Most
SPEAKER_00Today on the Frontline Health Podcast, who can benefit the most from Zeolite?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think we've touched on it a little bit earlier. Anybody who's concerned about their toxin exposure, so if you know that you're in an environment that has lots of toxins, if you're having a highly processed diet or taking in a lot of processed foods, or you're eating a lot of foods that are not organic, because we know if it's a not non-organic food, the likelihood of it being sprayed with glyphosate or some other toxins are pretty high. And you need to make sure that you're washing them for sure. If you've got gut health issues, that's a good option for you as well, because there's been some great um studies and information on people taking zeolite in particular for those. And really just for anybody who's looking for kind of that foundational detox support that they'd want to have over a year period or a couple months, just to reset their body and make sure that it's uh working at the level it needs to be working at.
What Zeolite Is And Why Now
SPEAKER_00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Frontline Health Podcast by Centurion Health, where we share health news, tips, and insights to help you take ownership of your health. My name is Evan Patrick, uh with me, founder and CEO of Centurion Health, Troy Dual. Uh, we talk a lot about toxins and detoxification on this podcast. And today we're discussing a natural compound that binds toxins in the body and helps flush them out. It's called Zeolite. Uh, we've actually recently launched our own Zeolite product here at Centurion Health and have included some other ingredients to work synergistically with it that we'll be sharing as well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and uh we start out a lot of these episodes when you're talking about an ingredient like this with a little bit of background info. And Zeolite is one of those that we're going to do that with. So we know that it's been around for centuries, or we've known about it for centuries, and it really uh has come into play from the health side of things and fairly recently in the last 20 to 30 years. But it was first identified in 1756 by a Swedish mineral mineralogist that I'm sure we're all familiar with, Axel Kronstedt. Oh, yes. Yeah, I mean, pretty pretty clear. Uh, who noticed that when the mineral was heated, it appeared to boil as it released trapped water, hence the name zeolite, which for I suppose Swedish people means boiling stone. Uh, and then it was really used mostly for industrial and chemical properties and not for human health. Um, and it helped with water purification. They used it in nuclear waste cleanup, uh, notably after the Chernobyl disaster. And then they use it for agricultural and soil conditioning. But within the health realm and supplementation realm, this is something that's been done in the last 20 to 30 years, like we mentioned, and it's really growing because they saw that it does a really, really good job of binding heavy metals and toxins in particular. And um, for those people who are exposed to heavy metals and toxins, it does a great job of binding that within the gut.
Zeolite History And Industrial Uses
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So, can to set the stage for this, can you talk about that word detoxification for a moment? Because I think a lot of people uh out there really might
What Detoxification Really Means
SPEAKER_00roll their eyes when they hear someone talk about detox. They're they're brushing this off as just a trendy health fed. Um, they don't realize that so many organs in our bodies contribute to doing this already. It's not something that we just like impose on our bodies. They're constantly trying to get rid of toxins so that our body can have less of those foreign agents to worry about and can do, you know, what they're what they're meant to do and what our body's meant to do. Um but why is detoxification so important for your body and why is it especially important today?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think that's a great point because our bodies really are detoxifying agents. I mean, if you think about it, we bring in oxygen, we create carbon dioxide, and we expel it. So we're trying to get rid of the toxin of carbon dioxide. We do the same thing with things that we breathe in, whether that's uh carbon monoxide when you're driving around outside or um uh other foods that you're taking in or water. We've talked about on several podcasts how water seems to be contaminated with different things, whether that's glyphosate or other uh minerals that our body doesn't need, with arsenic, um, with um so many aluminum things like that, and then just regular air air pollution that's there. So our body is trying to fight against that, and it starts to accumulate if our body can't keep up with it. And there are real symptoms that come with that. If your body can't keep up, then you're gonna start to feel more fatigued, you'll have more brain fog, you'll typically have more hormonal imbalances, and your immune system can't act to the level that it's supposed to act and fight off bacteria and infections that you may come across or viral infections that you may come across just in everyday life. So just our body already detoxes everything. So when we're talking about a detoxifying support or a detox in this case, all we're talking about is something coming alongside your body to help keep it from becoming overloaded and really either support an organ or to bind to some of those toxins so that you can then excrete it from your body. And that's ultimately what we're talking about.
SPEAKER_00Well, thank you so much for painting that picture because I think a lot of people don't realize that they're dealing with toxic overload when they are, when they're like you mentioned, fatigue, that brain fog, uh, you know, stress, getting sick constantly, like those kinds of things um can be tied to detoxification. Not saying that's what it is for everyone, but if you're wondering if if this is something that you might be dealing with, there are definite things that we can look at. Um that might be signs that your body is needing some help.
How Zeolite Binds Toxins
SPEAKER_00Um, so talking about zeolite, what makes it different and unique from other detox nutrients?
SPEAKER_01Kind of the neat thing about zeolite is it really acts like a cage and it goes inside the body, specifically in the gut, and it has this negative charge to it that then attracts those positively, positively charged toxins like heavy metals. So that's ultimately what it's trying to do is attract those to itself, it accumulates them, and then you flush it out of your body.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that that is really interesting. That is uh that's a little bit different. Um like you said, it it attracts some of these heavy metals and things. How does it work in the body?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so basically it's working in the gut and it's targeting specific heavy metals that we know that we're getting through our food, water, and air. So lead, mercury, cadmium, uh, arsenic, which is particularly big based on the information we just heard from the state of Florida. They released earlier this year about the level of arsenic that's in our candy, so our kids get a lot of it, and then those environmental toxins and ammonia. So what it tends to do, or what they feel like it does, is it just binds those substances instead of cleansing the whole body directly. So it's just working in one area, brings those toxins in and allows you to get rid of them through urine or feces.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's really interesting. So, in in terms of actual benefits for someone, um, what benefit, what specific benefits could someone experience from taking zeolite?
Benefits And Ideal Candidates
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think the biggest thing is you're gonna get some gut health support. You're gonna allow your body to get those heavy metals out. So if you've been exposed to heavy metals or know that you're taking in food or water supply that has a lot of heavy metals in it, it's gonna allow you to get that out of your system. And then it's gonna help because those aren't there, your body can then really go to fighting viral infections, bacterial infections, or any other things that it may be coming across and it's not having to deal with those heavy metals anymore. So that's how it can have a total body impact by just pulling those heavy metal toxins out.
SPEAKER_00Can you can you talk about that for a second? You know, who are some candidates like people who would maybe have uh been exposed to heavy metals and have more of that in their body and potentially need something like this?
SPEAKER_01Uh unfortunately, I think it's all of us, especially anybody who's having a lot of processed foods, if you're not drinking filtered water, um, and if you're not doing a great job of eating organic, because we know that glyphosate is one of those issues, we know that arsenic is one of those issues, and we're finding that in our water supply, we're finding it in our food supply. So ultimately, everybody is truly a candidate when you're talking about zeolite from kids up to uh old age because we need to get that out of our body to allow it to function the best way it possibly can. And I I think that is once we get to that level of understanding, and it may not be an everyday thing, but it may be, you know, I feel that brain fog, I'm feeling really tired. Let me take something to help my body just get all the bad out of it and get to a certain level where you're uh back to normal, and then you can drop off the zeolite after a little while and you just use it for short periods of time and you change your diet, you change the things that you're putting in your body, um, and make sure that you're avoiding all those uh places by filtering water and eating organic foods, and then you can probably back off on some of those uh detox scenarios that we've been talking about.
SPEAKER_00So it could be something you're saying that it could be something that you could take uh just for a period of time to kind of detox, or it could also be something that you could supplement with daily.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. I think if you're exposed to a lot of things or you're um in an environmental uh scenario where you're taking in more heavy metal toxins, or um your job may uh cause you to be around that, then anytime you can support your system, whether that's supporting your liver or your gut and getting those toxins out, I think it's a good thing. And we can um minimize the impact those toxins will have on our body.
Forms Particle Size And Safety
SPEAKER_00That is great to know. Um, we know that a lot of uh a lot of emphasis should really be put with a with a lot of ingredients that we talk about on uh the specific form of something that you're taking. I don't know if that's important for zeolite or not, but are there different forms of zeolite out there? And does it matter which form you take?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think a lot of it depends on the particle size. So if it's smaller, a smaller particle, it's gonna have more surface area, which means it's gonna attract more of those toxins to it. There should also be a purification process in place, so it's gonna help remove some of the contaminants that are typically with the zeolite itself, and it needs to be more bioavailable. And some of the more common form or the most common form out there is one called clenoclinopylolite. I can't really pronounce it real well. Uh, that's the most common one out there, but um, you want to look and see, you know, what's the form? Is it liquid? Is it powder? Is it capsule? Uh, there's some that are you inhale it, those they typically suggest to steer clear of and just go with the oral form. And um, that seems to be the most effect, effective, and safe uh way to take it as well.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so you just started to touch on this. Uh is zeolite safe?
SPEAKER_01It it really is. If it's been purified and it's been tested, then it seems to be a very, very safe uh product for somebody to take. The big issue I already touched on, which is if you inhale it, that tends to not be a great way to take in your zeolite and make sure that you're getting it from a trusted source. By trusted source, I mean is it somebody who tests their products on a regular basis, that you've taken some of their products before and you know that it's high quality products. Um, some of the other concerns that seem to be surrounding zeolite is it tends to not just take some of those uh toxins out of our body, but there's some studies that have shown it can remove some of the good minerals and even certain medications. So uh check to make sure that whatever medication it is doesn't interact with that zeolite because you don't want to flush that medication out of your body if you're taking it for a serious reason. And then, of course, some of the detox side effects that can happen is the Herx type reactions, which is really just a worsening of your symptoms because you're getting all the toxins out, and then your body uh still responds to that. And that hopefully it'll be for a short period of time, but it can be very, very painful to go through that if you're having a Herx reaction in your body at that time.
SPEAKER_00Well, always a good idea to uh to check with your healthcare provider if you're concerned and want to make sure that you're not gonna have any interactions with uh with anything else before you start. Um, but who can benefit the most from Zeolite?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think we've touched on it a little bit earlier. Anybody who's concerned about their toxin exposure. So if you know that you're in an environment that has lots of toxins, if you're having a highly processed diet or taking in a lot of processed foods, or you're eating a lot of foods that are not organic, because we know if it's a not non-organic food, the likelihood of it being sprayed with glyphosate or some other toxins are pretty high.
Why We Built A Full Blend
SPEAKER_00We mentioned earlier that we recently launched a zeolite product, but it's not just zeolite. Uh, it also has ingredients like NAC, chlorella, and shiligit, among others. Can you speak a little bit to our formulation and why we made it the way we did?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, the the ultimate idea behind it was to create a whole body detox support supplement. So it contains ingredients that are really gonna help with two specific things. One, it's gonna help bind those heavy metals and other toxins in the gut that we get through our foods, through our water, and um through the candy, like we talked about with the Florida uh study from earlier. And that's gonna include zeolite, chlorella, spirulina, alpha lopoic acid. And then the second one is really supporting the liver in that detoxifying process because the liver is the detox agent, the main detoxifying agent in our body. Of course, you've got your kidneys and your lungs as well. Um, but that's where a great deal of this detoxification happens, and we want to support it, and we support it with NAC, with L-glutathione, with milk thistle, and chilajet. So that's really what we were trying to do is how can we help somebody get the greatest support with the nutrients there possible in order to get their body uh cleaned and uh working as effectively as possible? Because uh ultimately all we're trying to do is take in ingredients to help support what your body's already doing.
SPEAKER_00Well, I personally can't wait to try it.
SPEAKER_01Good. Looking forward to it. Looking forward to the feedback on that.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
Final Thoughts And Listener Actions
SPEAKER_00Uh we will give it to you. Um, anything else that you want to add on to this before we wrap up this episode?
SPEAKER_01No, I think it's uh it's like everything in life. When we're talking about detoxifying, it's not meant to uh scare or concern anybody, but it's really meant to say, hey, there are things that we come in contact with that we've come in contact with since the beginning of time that our body needs help getting rid of. And whatever we eat, whatever we drink, if we can help our body get rid of that and uh function the way that it was intended to function, then we're gonna be much better off in the long haul. And that's ultimately what a product like this is about, and hopefully just bringing information so people will know a little bit more about some of these ingredients and how to use them to help uh take better ownership of their health.
SPEAKER_00Thank you for sharing all that, Troy. And uh yeah, really appreciate all the information. Uh super interesting ingredient with a lot of promise. Um, and so thank you for that and thank you for uh for creating this product. Um and thank you to our listeners for listening to this episode of the Frontline Health Podcast by Centurion Health.
