34. Live Today Like It's Your Last
Imagine waking up one morning and realizing that today could be your last—how would that change the way you live your life? On today's episode of the Freedom First Podcast, I dive into the often-overlooked importance of living in the moment. In our digitally saturated world, it's far too easy to get lost in the stories of others, neglecting our own. I talk about the delicate balance of life and how contemplating its fragility can drive us to seize every opportunity, complete our goals, and cherish the moments that truly matter.
As someone who has embraced the entrepreneurial lifestyle, I share how this journey has granted me the flexibility to be truly present with my family, despite the long hours and challenges. I recount my personal experiences and the life lessons I've learned, particularly now as my wife and I prepare for the arrival of our third child. This episode is a heartfelt reminder to live life on your terms, fully and without regrets. Tune in to find practical tips that could help you shift your mindset and savor every precious moment, no matter what tomorrow brings.

Welcome back to the Freedom First Podcast. I'm your host, justin Errington. Thank you guys once again for tuning in to today's show. This is episode number 34, and I'm your host, justin Errington. Thank you guys once again for tuning in to today's show. This is episode number 34, and I'm excited to be able to share a little bit of my knowledge with you guys and hopefully you can start applying it into your life immediately so that you can ultimately live life on your own terms. That is my whole purpose of the show.
Speaker 1:If you guys have not tuned into the show before, we've been releasing an episode every single day for a little over a month now, and if you guys want to get more nuggets on what I've uh, what some of the content that I've released in the last month or so, head on back to wherever you guys are listening and you'll be able to see more episodes there. Um, guys, if this is the first time you've listened, all I ask is that you do subscribe to the show and then also share it with someone who you feel like would benefit from it. That's it, like there's really no nothing else that I asked for. Um, you know, I just try to provide provide as much value as I can. I try to keep these episodes semi-short, between seven and 10 minutes, that way you guys don't feel like you're wasting a whole bunch of time every single day listening to you know an hour long podcast. I like to just get straight to the point, and so, with that said, let's go ahead and dive into the topic of today, and that is about living Guys, living in the moment.
Speaker 1:Today is something that I feel like is really hard for a lot of people, especially since we live in such a digital age. It's easy to get caught up in lives of other people and it's sometimes hard to really just focus on yourself and what you got going on in your life. And one thing to really kind of help you with being more present is just think about, like, what if today was it? What if today was your last day on earth, you know, because in reality you may not have, you may not have tomorrow, you know. So how many moments are you going to let pass by you? Or you know, how many moments are you going to waste away today knowing that today could be it?
Speaker 1:You know, I've talked on the show a couple times in the past, like I've just mentioned. Like what if you know? You're on your way home today, you get hit by a semi truck and it's it. You know. Life's over. What, what's what's next? You know what? What?
Speaker 1:If that was you today, would you feel confident to say, like you know what I did, live life to the fullest, I did everything that I wanted to. Or would you be on the other side of the spectrum where, oh man, that went by way too quick, like I wasn't ready, like I didn't accomplish things that I wanted to? You never know. Today could be it. Tomorrow could be it. You guys could live for another hundred years. I don't know, nobody knows. You know, and you can plan for the future as much as you want, but we're all living inside an hourglass and once that last grain of sand hits the bottom, it's over. There's no going back. So that's why I encourage you guys to just stay as present in the moment as possible.
Speaker 1:I think this is one of the main reasons that I really started to explore entrepreneurship, and I'm not saying that the life of an entrepreneur is easy, because it is anything but easy, even though social media might portray this image that, oh, he's an entrepreneur, he controls his schedule and he has all this time and he makes all this money Like it's not the case. I, uh, I, I work more now than I would at a typical nine to five job, so I'll be the first one to tell you entrepreneurship ain't ain't for everybody, um, but one of the reasons that I did pursue this was so that I wouldn't have to miss out on moments with my kids, moments with my family, my wife, and it's really helped me be able to be present in a lot of things. Like one thing that I really do take pride in is my wife I mean my wife's pregnant with our third baby right now. We should be having that any day, but heck, by the time this releases I hope he's already here because we're really down to the days. But one thing that I really take pride in is I have not missed a doctor's appointment for any of my three kids, and I don't think a lot of people could say that, because it's hard to get away from the office when you have a boss or you have to report to somebody and you know you're out of town for this conference. Like, I plan my days around my family If my boys have soccer at five, I'm off at four. You know, nobody can dictate my schedule, it's all on me.
Speaker 1:And the reason that's so important to me is because today might be it for me, it might be it for you. There's no guarantee that God's going to wake you up tomorrow, but he did wake you up today and so if you are listening to this show right now, take a moment and be grateful for it, no matter how crappy of a day you're having. Be grateful for today because God woke you up and the fact that you woke up, you got out of bed. God has a purpose for you today. Now the other question is like are you wasting it? You know, I don't know how many days I've had in my life where I have wasted days. I've wasted days. Everybody does Not. Every day can be 100% grind. Do everything that you can and it's not going to happen. You're going to have those off days, but whenever those off days hit you, I really want you to think about you know what? Why am I here? Why am I in this moment? Why am I at this job? Why am I on this date? You're there to be present and you're there to make the most of that moment, and that's why it's so incredibly beautiful to live moment by moment and actually be present.
Speaker 1:And I know it's hard with having having the internet at our, at our fingertips, 24, seven. It's easy to get wrapped up on your phone Like I am. I'm, I'm really bad at this and I'm, I'm trying, I'm. I feel like I'm trying to kick an addiction. Like when I'm trying, I feel like I'm trying to kick an addiction. Like when I'm home, I feel like I am on my phone way too much and like just even recording this podcast right now, it's like, oh my gosh, justin, what are you doing? Like you have two little boys right in front of you that you know. Go out and play ball with them, go ride bikes with them, whatever.
Speaker 1:And there's plenty of moments in my life where I feel like I don't capitalize on it. But I am recognizing that more and more as my kids get older and I want to be a more present father, I want to be a more present husband. And it's, it's hard, you know, but it's one of those things. Like you know what, let's just build some discipline and get into a routine where, like this is this is what we do, we're at home. You know, god needs me to be a father. He needs me to be a husband right now, and then when I'm at work, I'm in work mode, you know. So it's really just dialing everything in to be present in the moment today, because the more present you are, I guarantee you, the more happy you'll be, and that's God's whole purpose for us. Every single day is to be happy, be happy and progress.
Speaker 1:Guys, if you're not living, you're dying, and I'll be the first one to tell you like dying is the inevitable. It's going to happen to everybody. So what are you doing to make today count? Because today could be it, and if today's not, it for you? Remember when you put both feet on the ground tomorrow. Give thanks to God that he woke you up today and then ask him what is my purpose? What do I need to accomplish today? Who do I need to meet? Who are you going to put in my path that I can serve? And he'll provide those answers. He'll provide those opportunities for you. I promise that. I can testify to that. I've seen it in my own life. So make today count. Stop wasting day by day by day. Take action now, make it happen, start living your dream life. Start living it on your own terms. That's why I love the intro and outro to this podcast, because it talks about living life on your own terms. Build a free life, build it for you, build it for your family, build it for your kids and be grateful for today. So, guys, that's all I have for you.
Speaker 1:Episode number 34 is wrapped up, and do you guys want a little sneak peek of the episode tomorrow? Let me flip the page. Okay, tomorrow we're going to be talking a little bit about communicating with others. So, guys, be present today and hopefully you'll be present and listen to me again tomorrow.
