February is National Heart Health Month. Our latest podcast episode discusses heart health with special guest Dr. Creighton B. Wright Sr,  acclaimed cardiac and thoracic surgeon. In this episode, Dr. Wright discusses heart disease and prevention, including the evolution of the treatment of the disease. Dr. Wright has earned an extensive list of prestigious awards and medals for military service throughout his career. These include being honored by The American Heart Association with several awards: The Kaplan Visionary Physician Award, The Award of Excellence, the Distinguished Achievement Award, and most recently with the inaugural Creighton B. Wright Leadership Impact Award. Dr. Wright’s career includes time serving as a Colonel in the US Army. He was on active duty during the Vietnam Conflict, as a member of the Departments of Surgery at The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and Vascular Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  Colonel Wright continued service in the US Army Reserve as Commander of the 73rd Combat Support Hospital and later the 256th General Hospital. He was Chief of Professional Services for the 803rd Medical Group at King Khalid Military City, S. A. during The Gulf War- “Desert Storm”. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Kuwait, and Saudi Liberation Medals, and the Units under his professional guidance were awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation.   He is also a Professor of Health Sciences and founding Medical Director of the Mount St. Joseph Physician Assistant Training Program. He also served as the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services for The Health Alliance of Cincinnati from 2000-2003. He was a Founder and Medical Director of the Cincinnati State Medical Ultrasound Diagnostic Vascular Program.  Dr. Wright later served as a Founding member of the Board of UC Health, a multi-facility health system in Greater Cincinnati.  Dr. Wright has been recognized as a scientist and educator with over 200 publications, including four books. He has received awards for excellence in teaching at The University of Virginia, Georgetown University, and Jewish Hospital.
