Matchweek 19: Colney Talk | Brentford - Arsenal
Arsenal kicked off 2025 with a bang. The Gunners outclassed Brentford 3-1 in a match that could have been a nightmare for Arsenal, especially in the first half.
The first half was somewhat evenly match, with Arsenal dominating possession and Brentford setup defensively. However, Brentford managed to sneak in a cheeky goal, probably leaving Gunners fans wishing they could rewind time. But for Gabriel Jesus equalized faster than you can say "oh dear".
The second half was when it took off. Arsenal turned up the heat, creating chances faster than Brentford could blink. Merino and Martinelli put on a show that was more entertaining, scoring two quick-fire goals that left Brentford's defense looking like they were trying to reinsert themselves into the game - which was too late.
Brentford had a few moments where they threatened to make it interesting, but Arsenal swatted them away. The icing on the cake? Ethan Nwaneri gave us something to be excited about on the right wing, Brentford's players were up for it but not able to handle the style of blitz we brought to the match.
Thankfully, we did enough to forget the absence of Saka and Havertz. The players deserve a lot of credit and showed their attacking sharpness despite key absences.
As we look ahead to upcoming challenges, let's savor this victory in true football fashion. Take a listen for more about this incredible performance. This is the Arsenal way! On to the next. C'mon you Gunners!
