UEFA UCL Matchday 8: Girona vs Arsenal
Arsenal secured a crucial 2-1 victory against Girona at the Municipal de Montilivi in their final Champions League group stage match, clinching a spot in the round of 16. The Gunners coming from behind to win and finish third in the group with 19 points; albeit some luck to go with it.
Girona surprisingly took the lead through Arnaut Danjuma, capitalizing on a poor run by Arsenal's goalkeeper Neto. However, Arsenal's response was swift. Jorginho equalized from the penalty spot composure under pressure.
The highlight of the half came just before the break when 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri announced himself on the European stage. His curling effort from the edge of the box was simply breathtaking, putting Arsenal ahead.
The second half, Arsenal continue to press for a third goal, with Gabriel and Timber coming close from corners. However, Girona proved resilient, nearly equalizing through Cristhian Stuani, only for it to be ruled offside. The match remained tense until the final whistle, with Raheem Sterling missing a late penalty that could have sealed the game more comfortably.
