Holly:

Hi, I am here with, I'm Holly Mabry. Okay. And then what do you do here at exp? I am the, senior Vice President for brokerage operations, which basically means I'm the head broker. I oversee all the brokers in every state, for exp and both realty and commercial.

Milly:

Wow. Cool. Okay. And then for our first question, can you share your career journey and what led you to join exp Realty?

Holly:

Oh my gosh. So fun fact. I actually went to college for broadcasting and I graduated and I went to work for a radio station. I wanted to be a radio dj, radio personality.

Cool.

Holly:

But my family was in real estate. My dad's a real estate attorney. My uncle and my grandfather had a real estate company and radio's really hard. I had a couple of jobs to support being in radio. So I had the opportunity to get my real estate license. I joined my uncle in 1998, so I've been in the business almost 30 years. Really haven't looked back. I've been a single agent. I've worked on a team, I've been a national educator. I also volunteered for the realtor organization and I've been a state president and I had a really good friend that I trusted and she said, would you come work with me at EXP and be our state broker for Arizona? I said, you know, I'm having a really good year selling, but maybe I should take this risk. I don't know anything about this company. It looks pretty cool. Why wouldn't I try? And I got to join EX exp in, 2018, and I haven't looked back.

Milly:

Milly:

as a woman in real estate, what has been your biggest challenge and how have you overcome it?

Holly:

Wow. so as a woman in real estate. We're not always invited into every room. There are more women in real estate than there are men, but in leadership positions, there's more men than there are women. So that's been the hardest part a lot of times. And especially, I got into the business basically at 22, and a lot of people didn't take me seriously because I was so young.

Mm-hmm.

Holly:

And I was the youngest person in the room, so I had to outwork everybody. I had to make sure that I knew more than they did. I had to come at it in a way that was helpful and supportive because you can't just walk into a room and pretend like you know everything'cause it's not possible. my journey led me to anytime somebody invited me, I said yes, and it made a huge difference. any kind of career that a lady gets into. the hustle that you have, the passion that you have, you can never undercut it. Do something you're passionate about because it will require every ounce of you.

Milly:

What is one mindset or habit you believe every woman should develop to be successful in this field?

Holly:

Believe in yourself. Like anybody. Getting into sales and real estate, it's the confidence that you carry as you walk into the room. People want to believe in you. They need your help. And so if we walk in knowing that we're gonna help them in one of the most complicated transactions of their lives, that's very personal because it's where they live and they're gonna celebrate anniversaries and birthdays and bring their new baby home. people want somebody who's confident. And also that empathy, because empathy listens. If you can do that when you are connecting with people and building relationships, you will absolutely be successful in real estate.

Milly:

That's great. and then how has mentorship either given or receive and impacted your success?

Holly:

I wouldn't be here without my mentors, and I always looked for the people who were. Absolutely excellent in what they did, and it could be very small. But those people, I wanted to really listen and learn from, and you never stop. I think that's the thing about life, like you've always gotta be a student and keep learning, but when you learn something, you share it. and so sometimes the student becomes the teacher, but you really wanna make sure that the people that you're trying to teach are willing.

Milly:

what advice would you give to young women considering a career in real estate or business in general?

Holly:

I think that relationships are gonna be the biggest key you will ever have. And what I love that I heard yesterday from Ariana Peja, our CEO's wife, she is. An absolute force in business. And she said, look, you need to know when it's time to pivot. You may have the best idea in the room, but sometimes that best idea needs a slight massage or to look at things differently. And it's so critical to look at your business and have that holistic view. When do I need to pivot? What does that need to look like? Because if you think you can do things the way you've always done them. You will not change or grow. And this business requires constant growth, constant education, constant learning. So if you're looking at getting into business, if you're looking at getting into real estate, it's relationships first, constant growth and education of yourself. And then also how do you continue to nurture relationships long term.

Milly:

Wow. Thank you. That's great. Wow. That was really good. Thank you so much.
