The movie chronicles the life and career of legendary Canadian comedian and actor, John Candy, using interviews with Candy’s family and friends and never-before-seen archival home footage and audio commentary. John Candy: I Like Me is both a celebration and authentic portrayal of Candy and his work, exploring the impact he made on the film and comedy landscape and how his troubled personal life shaped and intertwined with his work. In the interview, Strickland discusses how he first got involved with the film, what the process of creating the music with director Colin Hanks was like, why the French horn was an integral instrument for developing the documentary’s theme, and the importance of honoring Candy’s legacy.
