Timmy Lee speaks with Japanese director Takahide Hori to discuss his latest stop-motion animated film, Junk World (2025), which had its international premiere at TIFF 50. The interview is conducted in both Japanese and English, with Hori’s assistant translating all of Timmy’s English questions into Japanese and Hori’s Japanese responses into English. The trio discusses Hori’s inspirations when creating the world of Junk World, his reasoning behind adding certain plot points and character models in the film, and how working with a bigger budget and crew affected his approach to writing and filmmaking. Timmy’s review of Junk World further details his thoughts about the film, its unique premise, and how it improves over its predecessor, Junk Head (2017).
