Warrior Heart Yarns: Embracing the Shadows: Overcoming Shame and Reclaiming Your Power

Shantelle Thompson Season 3 Episode 16

"Embracing the Shadows: Overcoming Shame and Reclaiming Your Power"
Trigger Warning: Mental illness and suicidal ideation mentioned and discussed

Shame is a dangerous emotion that can hold us back and convince us that we are unworthy of being loved and of belonging. And left unaddressed, shame can drive us into mental illness, abandoning ourselves, those we love and our dreams. It can lead to addiction and so much more.

In this yarn I wanted to share some insights as to my own experiences of 'shame' and the damage it has caused to my journey and what I am doing to move through shame. I share my own journey, a definition of shame and also how 'shame' has been used as a social conditioning tool of colonisation and patriarchal practices to break down and entrap Indigenous peoples and women amongst other groups.

I share some insights how 'shame' has been used to hold women and Indigenous mob back, and why I'm choosing to stand up and share my own experiences of shame and what I'm doing to move through it, heal from it and learn from it.

Some key themes from this episode.
