Super Bowl Smiles and Glory Holes, NBA Trade Shocks, and College Basketball Farewells
There's a very low percentage of this, that is, smiles and glory holes.
Speaker 2:Welcome back. It is the North Florida Sports Network Time to do the Super Bowl edition. The North Florida Sports Network Took a week off, but I'm back, back in North Florida again. I got Justin with me, I got Jimmy Reno with me. We're going to make our Super Bowl picks, but first, how are you guys doing?
Speaker 3:Great man.
Speaker 2:Doing awesome, Justin, you doing all right man.
Speaker 4:I thought this podcast episode was going to be about the Jimmy Butler trade Dude. I'm really confused. It can be about anything.
Speaker 2:There's a lot of trades, a lot to get to A lot of shit going on. The Luka Doncic, anthony davis trade. And then you had um, now, now jimmy butler to the warriors. So we getting to that leonard hamilton officially announcing he's retiring finally had enough um him and larry niega are gonna be sipping margaritas on the beach together, can we?
Speaker 3:just go ahead and start printing the Matthew Cleveland Kills Programs t-shirts.
Speaker 4:Yeah, Well, we got to see what you do. Let him transfer to Duke after this season and kill Duke man, for God's sakes.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and I think Josh Allen has won the MVP, oh.
Speaker 4:Get the tables Yep, get the table, get the table.
Speaker 2:Get the table, but we do have a game. It's down to a point. I know who I'm taking. Let's get it. Let's just go ahead and do it. I'm taking the Chiefs. I had the Chiefs all year. I thought they were going to win this. I had Chiefs Rams Super Bowl.
Speaker 1:They didn't make it.
Speaker 2:I feel that the Chiefs will win this game. It's going to be an epic game. It's going to be just like I think it's going to be. At the end, the Chiefs will have the ball down by three or four no, I'm going to say four Going in and they'll have to get a touchdown. And they'll do it and they're going to win this game. Let's go 31-28. All right, Chiefs 31-28.
Speaker 3:Now.
Speaker 2:Justin, who you got in this, this old Super?
Speaker 4:Bowl. I think I'm like one of the few people because I keep hearing all around on Sports Talk Radio and ESPN and whatnot everybody's all pissed off about this matchup. They must not be true football fans that are mad at this matchup. This is a phenomenal matchup. It really is. I mean, you got like the strength of the Chiefs against the strength of the Eagles. Can the Chiefs' D-line stop the tush-push in critical situations? Can the Chiefs' D-line contain Saquon Barkley? Can they put pressure on Jalen Hurts? Can the Eagles' D-line contain Saquon Barkley? Can they put pressure on Jalen Hurts? Can the Eagles D-line wreak havoc like they have basically for the past three seasons? I kind of think yes to all of those.
Speaker 4:You know I don't see Saquon going off because Spags is going to have something drawn up for that defense. Saquon's still definitely going to be effective, but he ain't going for two bills. I think this game really is going to come down to what Jalen Hurts can do through the air. Okay, he's got the weapons and Philly, like we were saying I think it was last week on the pod when we were talking a little bit about the game um, the eagles are built to beat the chiefs, like their roster is built to beat the chiefs. They're super talented roster. I really do think it's going to come down to coaching and it's it's spags versus spangio, which I gotta say that's a toss-up, that's a wash but then andy reed, andy reed against whatever the dude sirian, I can't even think of his name yeah, sirianni yeah, andy reed versus sirianni.
Speaker 4:Give me and Andy Reid, give me Pat Mahomes, because he's a superman, and give me the push. 31 to 30. Chiefs.
Speaker 2:I love it, oh man Jimmy.
Speaker 3:I want to pick the Eagles man, but no Chiefs.
Speaker 1:Until somebody beats them, all right.
Speaker 3:You know what's going to happen. Give me the script. Give me the script. Give me the script. I'll give you the script. I think it's going to be a defensive game. I don't think it's going to get as high as you guys. So you're taking Chiefs in the under.
Speaker 2:I'm taking the Chiefs in a parlay, yeah.
Speaker 3:But I got them winning 2016. I got just both defensive lines, creating a shit show.
Speaker 2:It's playoff, jimmy too.
Speaker 3:I want to take the Eagles. So bad because it doesn't really matter. I think this is it, man. I think Andy Reid and Pat Mahomes get this three-peat and there it is, submit themselves.
Speaker 2:Then the goat conversation is actually a real one already for them.
Speaker 4:Wouldn't the irony of the Eagles stopping Andy andy reed from a three pb? It really would be that.
Speaker 2:That's another story there that I think people are, you know, putting off. I'm not, I didn't have a dog in any of the fights, so I I think it's a great matchup. If you look at the game they had just two years ago, it was a great game. It was just overshadowed by that penalty, or not? A penalty on um? No, they did throw the flag on the eagles and but the defender admitted to it. So I've been like it sucked. That always sucks, to have it come down, but it's still a great game. It came down to the wire. It could be anybody's game. It will be defined by the, by the margins.
Speaker 3:Soap is not defined by the officials.
Speaker 2:We're all going Chiefs here. Yeah, it's just.
Speaker 3:How do you pick against them?
Speaker 2:It's hard, you don't. You got to hold. There was a team, though, that could hold on to a lead and get first downs. It was built to do that. I've you know they. That's the Eagles. So there's so many matchups like Justin was talking about.
Speaker 3:Right, and within matchups that kind of plays into me thinking it's going to be a lower scoring game Right.
Speaker 2:Because they don't want to. They don't want to go down the field. You know they will. And that's I got is Saquon stat on all his touchdowns this season. Justin, wait till you hear this. 32 yards is the average.
Speaker 4:That's what I was going to say.
Speaker 1:It's insane man.
Speaker 4:With the low. Why I think it's going to be a little bit more scoring involved in this game is because Saquon is going to pop one.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's home run ability, oh yeah, oh yeah. And because they have the weapons on the outside and so you have to respect AJ Brown and Devonta Smith. So it's been a matchup. It's been a perfect, just a, just a perfect, like free agent pickup for the Eagles. Like you couldn't place a better, a better player into that situation that could complement the players they already had, more than Saquon. So we'll, that's the matchup within the matchup.
Speaker 2:I, I, what will they do? Will they take that out so that that plays? If they do that, it's going to be a lot of first downs and like what Jimmy was saying. And it's going to be a lot of first downs and like what Jimmy was saying, and there's going to be a lot of time in possession and it's going to be low scoring. Third down conversion rate will be huge and then average per third down. I would look at those two At the end. Whoever wins wins. Those probably be your champion, um, and then you obviously the turnover battle. But man, well, I'm looking forward to it, I'm excited about it. Uh, what mvp? Who's your mvp, justin?
Speaker 4:huh in this game yeah it's gotta to, oh God, with the Chiefs winning. How can you not? I got to think it's got to go to Mahomes, man. I mean, the Chiefs are going to win.
Speaker 2:That's the pick. I mean, that's the obvious pick, that's the best pick.
Speaker 4:Unless Hollywood Brown returns a punt for a touchdown and then catches a couple touchdowns or something like that.
Speaker 2:Something, chris jones, you get a crazy forced fumble sack or something and a timely. You know, if the, if it's a defensive game, like jimmy says, it could be someone on defense somebody in the chiefs. Second I mean, and I and I think you know that's been when I think about this potential three Pete I think it's been defense dominated. I think it the Pat Mahomes is obviously, the Andy Reed are great, but as a unit that defense has been the leader and they play off of that.
Speaker 4:As soon as Reek left and came down to Miami, the defense started leading the charge.
Speaker 2:Yep, and then I think that's the way Andy wants it and he, he, he calls, plays to compliment it, and uh well, it's got to take the pressure off right play call. Yeah, I mean so yeah, uh, I'm looking forward to a little bit um, I I'm gonna give you this that they'll hate a lot.
Speaker 3:I'm gonna go kelsey mvp yeah, yeah, big, big write-off I think he's gonna know.
Speaker 2:I think he's gonna retire after the game. Propose or something to taylor swift piss up everyone that you think he's going to retire after the game Propose or something to Taylor Swift.
Speaker 4:Piss everyone. He's going to do the storybook.
Speaker 2:Internet will break, but I think they'll try to get in the ball.
Speaker 4:Here's a great prop bet Kelsey MVP Proposed to Taylor Swift Taylor shoots him down. That would bet Kelsey MVP Proposed to Taylor Swift Taylor shoots him down. Oh, that would be awesome. Oh, wow, wow.
Speaker 3:I mean that's entertainment, right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, what's the percentage of that happened? You know, I mean what is it when you think of that? Let's get the bets going, man.
Speaker 4:I got that and then another hilarious thing that could happen Smiles and glory hopes.
Speaker 1:I got that, and then another hilarious thing that could happen Smiles and glory holes.
Speaker 4:Travis Kelsey would go into the first glory hole after Taylor Swift shoots him down. Yeah, there you go, man. But another funny thing I thought of the other day. Funny thing I thought of the other day If the Eagles win, I want to see the picture of Jason Kelsey chugging beers with Lane Johnson celebrating that the Eagles just beat his brother's ass. What do?
Speaker 2:you think the percentage of that happening, Jerry Jones.
Speaker 1:There's a very low percentage of this, uh, that is, uh smiles and glory holes we'll see.
Speaker 2:We'll see, you know, I don't know I'd be smiling. Yeah uh, jimmy, who you got mvp that's a good question, man.
Speaker 3:That's a really really good good question you got Pat.
Speaker 2:Pat's been taken.
Speaker 3:No, I don't got Pat.
Speaker 2:Kelsey, you're going to go, chris Jones.
Speaker 3:No, I'm going to go Running back, Just a random guy in the secondary man. I'm not familiar with every player back there All right.
Speaker 2:Be secondary A true.
Speaker 3:Larry Brown type of moment, all right, where just somebody steps up make a play because like, uh, you know it's gonna I agree it's gonna come down to jalen hurst throwing the ball for the eagles. I just one turnover man, can you know? So I, I think that's gonna happen. Somebody nobody's expecting so much so that I don't even know the name yeah, oh man it's over after sunday.
Speaker 4:I know it sucks hey, what's the uh d lineman?
Speaker 3:uh from fsu not yeah, I mean, I mean, if he he causes a fumble or something.
Speaker 2:I mean, yeah, it could be their defense, you know, but if you're going to pick anybody on defense, I mean someone in the secondary Chris Jones would be a solid pick because of.
Speaker 4:Yeah, but for a Florida State fan the fun of picking Nottie.
Speaker 2:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah I mean let naughty stop.
Speaker 4:a couple crucial tush pushes man Just one.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Just seeing him do it once would be like damn. I think it's going to be more about just keeping him from getting down there. I think once they get down there, you can't stop it yeah. So, Until somebody does how they do. That will be the key um anymore anything else you got on this game what you're looking forward to, the halftime show or anything? I'm not.
Speaker 4:No, yeah no, they need to.
Speaker 2:I still think it's the saturday oh, absolutely, I'm with them, you know, or give monday off or make it or something you know. But like I liked Saturday, I think it'd be great. They've already had a bye week and you know, that way you get everyone has the day the next day to kind of recover.
Speaker 4:Yeah, not putting out on a Saturday is just as dumb as the college football national championship being on Monday night. It's fucking retarded.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean I, the college football national championship being on monday night. Yeah, it's fucking retarded. Well, I mean, I bet it. Just they're not gonna change what's like the all. It just keeps setting records on records. They're not gonna take it's super bowl son they're not gonna lose.
Speaker 4:They don't want losing any viewers.
Speaker 2:Man, they don't want that to change. Yeah, yeah, well, uh, let's talk some NBA. Real quick, big trades. Your Miami Heat got rid of Jimmy Buckets. What do you think of this whole fiasco?
Speaker 4:Well, I mean we talked about it a couple weeks ago when it first got going. I got no ill will towards Jimmy because he led a mediocre team to the conference finals multiple times, the NBA finals multiple times. I think he's going to be. It'll be interesting to see how he fits into that golden state offense Cause one. One critique about Jimmy Butler is he he's a ball stopper. When you're swinging it around the perimeter it gets to Jimmy Butler. Yeah, he ain't giving that ball up. He's a very old school type player with that, he's not a catch and shoot type guy. So I'm not really sure how he's going to fit in Golden State. And I was actually listening to Levitar the other day talking about the trade and a good point that they brought up. This might actually make the heat a better team. With the system of uh basketball they're trying to play right they do get andrew wiggins, who is a good.
Speaker 2:You know has been serviceable when he's not relied upon on you know what I mean like when he can just fit in.
Speaker 4:He's a good catch and shoot guy.
Speaker 4:He's a lockdown wing defender yeah um, you pair him with tyler hero uh, old jami haquez jr, who I love. Um, the kid that I was telling you about last year that came on in the playoffs. Jovich, another uh, good, tall, lanky perimeter defender. And uh, and then the new young center we got, uh kelow aware, who's been balling out. You put him with all those guys, with Bam Adebayo, and you start running a perimeter-based offense. Don't be surprised if the Heat can make a little run here towards the end of the season. Get hot and do what the Heat do in the playoffs, man.
Speaker 1:There's a very low percentage of this, that is, smiles and glory holes.
Speaker 4:I think Jerry thought that when we were in eighth seed and had to win two play-in games and ran to the finals. Suck on that, Jerry Jones.
Speaker 2:All right, so the big trade happened. Uh, all right, so no, the big trade uh happened. Why I saw I was on skiing, but I was when getting a drink, taking a break. And I see luca donchik has been traded to the los angeles lakers for anthony davis. That's, that's pretty big. That's the first time two first team, all nba players have been traded for each other ever really the next season.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so it's a big trade, um, because you don't see that when guys like that, they don't get traded like. So, especially for each other. What's your thought on that? Basketball insider justin dude.
Speaker 4:Everybody talks about the the NFL being rigged. How's the NBA not rigged?
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 4:The Lakers always do this. Yeah, every 10 years the Lakers get the next Up and coming star and ride him for 10 years.
Speaker 3:It is some bullshit.
Speaker 4:Dude, it really is man Dude. Go back to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They get Jabbar, you know. Then they Stumble their way ass backwards Into drafting James Worthy the year after, I mean dude. Then you get Shaq, the trade for Kobe on draft day, the Paul Gasol trade. I mean it's freaking Nauseating at this point with the goddamn Lakers. But Now that my bitch session's over, now I think it's actually going to play out. I think the Mavericks might actually kind of like the Heat. I think AD fits them a little bit better. Okay, because they got no defense. Ad is one of the best defenders in the NBA. Right, luka missed something like. I mean, he's missed like 30 games already.
Speaker 2:I mean, he was just in the finals, it's just. But now you hear rumblings of just a bad work ethic. He's all just talent.
Speaker 3:You don't even got to hear rumblings, man, it's physically evident. He's fat, he's like the white.
Speaker 1:James Harden.
Speaker 2:That's a good comparison.
Speaker 3:Right, you can be fat and not play defense if you're amazingly skilled.
Speaker 2:The Lakers getting right. When LeBron's, they gave him his Bronny moment, so he's riding off, and so well. They gave him his brawny moment, so now he's riding off, and so, oh well, they're going to have Luka.
Speaker 4:I don't know how he's going to fit with LeBron and that Lakers team. I mean, that's not going to do anything.
Speaker 2:This is for the next 10 years. I think that's why yeah.
Speaker 4:I'm with you Because I don't see I mean like, and how that went down and who orchestrated it.
Speaker 2:That would be the whole rigged thing you wanted to look into. There's David Stern back from the dead to rig another trade for the Lakers. Well, let's go to college hoops. All-time Florida State winningest coach, Leonard Hamilton, will officially step down at the end of the season joining Jim laranega. Um, hey, laranega, two guys uh, two guys really class acts um, I like both legends yeah, um I think they're both retiring for the same reasons too right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I just think they're just the game's changed. Um, you can't like have a. The turnover in college basketball is like 80 of your roster. Now I mean it's one year and done, your every team is. Now. You're like they're building a roster. Developing players is over, but uh, nobody did it better at florida state than leonard hamilton and by, I would say, at the end of the 2010s um, right up to the COVID year. That was the peak for him and it's just shame that. What, what, what could have been that? That tournament? That was his best team. Yeah, um, but uh, just the kite, and he was at Miami before Um and he did a great job there.
Speaker 4:We shouldn't have ran him off initially.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, he got hired by Michael Jordan.
Speaker 4:I was a big fan of him.
Speaker 2:When he was at Miami, he got hired by Michael Jordan to coach the Wizards. That's how good he was doing, though he was picked hand-selected by MJ.
Speaker 4:Well, we know MJ is good at picking guys for, for the nba. I mean look at koami brown well, it wasn't for him.
Speaker 2:I mean, this is the kind of guy he's a college coach and florida state, lucked out by that by mj went going down because otherwise he might have built that at miami. The same, like if he would have kept it going there the way he was. He was already sweet 16s down there in miami and he yeah, I think we have back to if he would have kept it going there the way he was. He was already sweet 16s down there in miami and he yeah, I think we have back to back.
Speaker 4:He would have.
Speaker 2:I have no doubt in my mind he would have done this. He would have just he would have all the same amount of wins, if not more maybe. But uh, just a class act. Um, what type of player you know, seeing it up close for years If you go through that program, just what type of man you become, is just a credit to him as an individual. And he will be missed and uh, and hopefully the Noles can play hard for him and end the season with a respectable maybe. You know, not just tail out so we can go off.
Speaker 3:I didn't think they were going to win another game after BC, so they look better against Notre Dame. Maybe that's why he wanted to do it.
Speaker 2:He was like come on, guys, I can't. I want to go out with the least respectable record Larry Naga was like fuck it, there's no way.
Speaker 4:I'm not riding this freaking train well, he's calling back to george mason. He's like, yeah, y'all want to sign me to a 10-day contract right, yeah, that good point, all right. Well man, it's football is over, man ah, the usfl is coming back, or whatever. That other league is the xfl, what, whatever?
Speaker 2:yeah, so, uh, they're probably a big ufc fight coming up there.
Speaker 4:Actually is this weekend, yeah yep, yep and it's gonna be a banger man strickland versus duplassus. Dude, it's gonna be a great fight, dude the fight. Uh, this is a rematch yeah, I was watching the replay of it.
Speaker 1:Great fight, dude the fight. Uh, this is a rematch.
Speaker 4:Yeah, I was watching the replay of it it was an absolute banger, dude. There was blood everywhere. It was awesome. There was a blood tested uh free a ufc fight last weekend, dude where it was like I mean, like I felt like they were getting transfusions in between rounds. There was so much damn blood oh man, that's awesome.
Speaker 2:I have to watch that one. Well, all right, so we got to get on out of here. But to have a super bowl, a lot of prop bets. If you were to place a prop bet, what's your favorite prop bet, justin?
Speaker 4:I. I don't know if this is necessarily a prop bet, but I would parlay Eagles win Saquon MVP. Okay, it's more of a real football bet, because if the Eagles win. If they win, saquon's going to be the MVP. Yeah Well yeah, that's a more real analysis. I'd bet the over. There was a prop that I heard that heard that Saquon's longest run is set at over-unders at like 25 or something. Take the over on that prop bet, because you threw out that stat earlier. 32 yards per touchdown run.
Speaker 2:How do you not? If you knew who was singing the national anthem? There's people that know whoever's singing it. I'm sure they're like can you just let me know how long this is going to be?
Speaker 4:No, the way you do it is, you have a friend that works on the stage crew, and when they do the practice run-through the day before, then you get how long it's going to be. Yep, that's insider trading my friend.
Speaker 3:Yes, sir, or you just give whoever's singing it a piece of the action.
Speaker 2:I mean, if you were singing it and you didn't, you could literally be like hey and tell a bunch of people what it was going to be and give me half of your winnings.
Speaker 4:Well, next year, when I'm singing the national anthem, I will give you guys the inside track. You got it, man.
Speaker 2:Well, we got hoops coming up, which is hooray College baseball.
Speaker 3:Slow ass college baseball coming. Alright, it might be good this year.
Speaker 2:We'll look into that Link, jarrett. Get back to Omaha.
Speaker 3:That's the only thing we got going for men's sports Baseball.
Speaker 4:Ah, dude, we got WrestleMania coming up at the end of March Another transfer portal.
Speaker 2:Some college football, no spring game, but we'll talk about another portal window in recruiting for Miami as well and Florida. We'll have off-season wins and losses and a lot to come, because we'll have to get that football fixed soon Because it's gone. So we'll watch it, we'll react to it and we'll talk to you next time right here on the north florida sports network go to the next hole.
