Eagles Dominate Super Bowl and NFL Icon Debates
Welcome back Super Bowl Reaction Show hey Football.
Speaker 1:Hey football Finally doing it on a Monday, as it is the last Monday, last football Monday of this 2024-25 season. And the Eagles with the just ass kicking of the Chiefs. I mean it was not even close. I mean the backups weren't at the end, don't get it twisted. Game was over in the second quarter. Dominant performance. They had the hats off to the organization. I don't think there's a team that would have beaten them today or yesterday. And that's saying something we, you know. This reminded me of old school dominant championship football from you know when I was a child watching it and you know the game was over. But you knew who the champ was when the Niners played the Broncos. Whoa now, yeah, I mean that was the it was that.
Speaker 1:No, no, this was that. This was just as much of a butt-kicking as any. Don't get fooled by the late touchdowns they had already pulled the starters and it might be the earliest Gatorade bath we've ever seen, so you?
Speaker 2:and it might be the earliest Gatorade bath we've ever seen. So that first half in the first I slept through the second half, yeah, yeah yeah, it was over.
Speaker 1:It was over. You're right. Everything was dominated by the Eagles defense offense, North Florida State's own Josh Sweat. I thought for a second might get the MVP Two and a half sacks, about six tackles, but the MVP Jalen Hurts I think well-deserved. He was the leading rusher, threw for over 200, two touchdowns, had a pick but ran for another Just poised. And he's just hard not to like him. You know especially what he went through in college, having gone to alabama and then getting benched pretty much for tua and yeah and but, but staying friends and having handling him in class going oklahoma.
Speaker 1:Right and then you know he got better. He didn't point fingers, um, and then getting drafted second round with the first round quarterback, carson Wentz, already on the roster. We'll buy Carson and he's done nothing but improve. Um, two years ago it wasn't his fault, uh, that they lost the super bowl, something he took personally. Um, he, it wasn't his fault that they lost the Super Bowl, something he took personally.
Speaker 1:He had a hell of a game two years ago. He just couldn't get the ball at the end. This time he probably could have took knees. That's how dominant that defense was. But the Eagles had answers for the Chiefs defense. He was able to slow down Barkley. That's about the only thing they did. The Chiefs defense who was able to slow down Barkley? That's about the only thing they did. But when you have an offense that can't block like that, or a defense that dominates like that, you got to give the Eagles credit, because nobody I mean the Chiefs were showing that all season. You know they showed holes all year, but they always figured out a way to win. But the Eagles like showed all the holes and just pissed on it. There were, and you know there's like the first call that was the bad call or something where they called offense pass interference on the fourth and one and there was. Just remember I told you I was like I don't think it's going to matter about the refs.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it Remember. I told you I was like I don't think it's going to matter about the refs.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's going to be a blowout. Yeah, you could just tell that was yeah, man. And well, I mean the Chiefs have been fighting it. You know when they're going to lose, it's going to be big, they don't? They had close games or the best.
Speaker 2:I mean they were figuring it out you know away all year, but the Eagles were not afraid of anybody they had on the outside.
Speaker 1:And finally, when you finally missed Tyreek Hill Anything, well, yeah, they just didn't have anybody man. They had some late touchdowns through, you know Worthy, but he's a rookie, I mean that was expected. So they took advantage of all the weaknesses. They put pressure on mahomes mahomes when he's, when he can't. You can't block, you can't do anything in this league, right that?
Speaker 1:that that's what that should be textbook right there, and it really just shows you how freaking awesome and great Tom Brady was, just because of, like, the protections and the way he just never got blown out.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean at the same time, though. I mean, I'm not sure I would put.
Speaker 1:Well, it just blocks. I mean in the terms of goat. There there was conversation of Pat being the GOAT and like come on, man, hold, pump the brakes. I'm a Dolphins fan at heart, you know. So I hate and I think the tuck rule sucked. I think it was a. I know it existed, but I think it was a. I don't think it should have been used in that era. I think if because Woodson hit him, so there's no tuck.
Speaker 2:I mean I would stop way short of calling Pat the greatest of all time.
Speaker 1:Well, I'm just saying talking heads were saying that, I mean because they were were one game away from doing something nobody else had done. Right, but it wasn't even close. The Eagles were clearly the better team. They were built, like we told you, to beat the Chiefs and they did. Are they built to beat the shit out of anybody? Well, yes, yeah, yeah, they really are and it looks like they're.
Speaker 2:I mean, it's still a young team right, they got a few free joshuette free agent. Um man, they look like they're gonna be really hard to beat yeah, uh, you got uh all the receivers.
Speaker 1:They got the best offensive skills. The offensive line is massive. I mean you could see it, number 68 in particular. Yes, big guy, and just the biggest on you, dickerson on there. Former Florida.
Speaker 2:State player. Yeah, when somebody like that is like maybe your third biggest offensive lineman, that that's insane because that's a gigantor human. And and then you got somebody like saquon barkley and then jalen hurts, who can? Probably between the two of them? They're squatting at least a fire truck it's's Jordan Mailata.
Speaker 1:That's who you're thinking of.
Speaker 2:Number 68. That's Shrek yeah.
Speaker 1:I mean that is Eagle, I mean that guy, but they compliment the style and I heard that some people were saying the same thing I said weeks ago about that play, in particular play. They didn't like it. Bill Cowher did. He said that it was in fact not football, it's rugby. So I would not be surprised if that's ruled out, which honestly you don't need it with that offensive line and Jalen Hur hurts his ability to get low. Um, you just said you just can't push yeah, that I mean I wouldn't they perfect and credit to him.
Speaker 1:But I, I mean, that's what I was kind of telling well, the first touchdown, the overhead perspective of the first touchdown.
Speaker 1:Like they didn't need to push jay they didn't need anything in that game oh yeah and like if the eagles were going to win that game or you just had a feeling it was going to be a blowout. You kind of. You look back and you're just like how the hell did we all pick the chiefs? Because of everybody did and they did it all year yeah, and they kept doing it over and over again against good teams. Um, I wish the bills, or especially even the ravens, were in the super bowl.
Speaker 1:I think the that would have been the best matchup I do, I mean if I mean if you do money morning quarterbacks like who who would have been a better super bowl. Clearly that was terrible and I think we've been a little spoiled in the past few years yeah because if you look at the I would say the past decade, you have the only two blowouts are by the Bucs against the Chiefs and now the Eagles against the Chiefs, and it's when they can't block and Pat Mahomes can't do it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and man, I don't know when the Bucs did it, I was. I mean, it was somewhat surprising, but I yeah, it was a lot easier to take because it was Brady and it's the Bucs it I, I was I mean it was somewhat same story, but I yeah it was a lot easier to take because it was Brady and it's the Bucs and like, oh yeah, of course, but this last night was, it was even more.
Speaker 1:It was more dominant than that game and the Bucs dominated the Chiefs. Don't get it twisted, but I think this game surpassed that in domination it's like you said, man, I, I, 49ers, broncos, that's, that's a really. I mean, this was bears patriots and the, the. I don't, I didn't, I was too young for that one, but I mean, I used to watch all the the super bowl shows right, but the patriots didn't have a hall of fame quarterback yeah, all right. Well, I'm just talking about the game itself. Let's go to Cowboys-Bills.
Speaker 2:Their third Super Bowl. It was just over.
Speaker 1:It's just over, but right when it starts. You know Chargers-Niners.
Speaker 2:You knew it, they beat the Cowboys when.
Speaker 1:Shanahan's mad that they didn't get eight touchdowns in the game.
Speaker 2:The good Shanahan's mad that he didn't get eight touchdowns in the game.
Speaker 1:The good Shanahan, yeah, the good coordinator Shanahan.
Speaker 2:All right well you're super bold. Yeah, that was an ass-kicking man. It was Happy for Josh Sweat, Yep. Happy for Johnny Wilson, even though he didn't look so hot.
Speaker 1:He had a drop. He's blocking his ass off. It's the only thing they didn't do, and it was good to see him in the game. He did have a drop, but Josh.
Speaker 2:The problem was it was too good a pass If you would have thrown it way above his head. We had the same thing.
Speaker 1:He's on a roster where that's how loaded they are. They have a guy like that where they can just bring along.
Speaker 2:Yeah, first time we play him in the playoffs, they don't need to be in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1:It's like oh, it's okay, no worries, because they have Devonta Smith, you know, they have AJ Brown, who is just a specimen.
Speaker 2:Oh my God, AJ Brown. And then they have the Slim.
Speaker 1:Reaper. They literally have like the Slim Reaper. They literally have the Slim Reaper and then the Reaper, reaper at both ends. So we call it a repeat already. I mean they're going to be the clear favorite Right. The quarterback's in his prime. He's playing better than he has. He's a leader. His deep ball looked incredible. He can run and that's you. He uses that to his benefit. He looked, he looked in control. I was only rooting for joshua to get it. I have no problem with jalen hurts getting the mvp. He deserves it. The eagles deserved it. They're the best team this year. Yeah, well, uh. Halftime show lamar, kendrick lamar. You know credit to him for going with it. You know I I don't. I'm not like, I'm not a big fan. I don't listen to his music. I'm not not going to lie. But you know he did what he did and he dissed oh, did he diss him? Oh, yeah, he didn't do any of his.
Speaker 1:He did the whole A minor thing he did his tracks with, like he's done music with, like you know. Oh, that's awesome, all the like pop stars, so he could have done songs that people recognized, like white people and no, why would you do that though?
Speaker 1:well he, I mean I didn't necessarily like, like the music, but I understood. I mean I'm, I had respect for it. You know to follow through with it like a diss, like that. Nobody lost harder than drake did. Well that that makes me smile. And then nobody won more than james winston did makes me smile even bigger he was the mvp of super bowl week so great.
Speaker 1:He was the fox correspondent and it's. It was just a. It was great to see him just be himself and let a lot of people, a lot of people who haven't had a chance to see that side of him, get to see it. But he's a fun dude.
Speaker 1:Uh, it's real, it's authentic oh yeah, man, I mean, I just go back you go back to the when he was there, those videos he was doing before the season in 2013, when they were doing those dances they were just having fun. He likes he's a guy you want around. You know, yeah, he's a guy you want in the foxhole. And then you get. I mean, imagine being in the locker room with a guy like that. I mean it put a smile on your face, right, as Jameis would say in his famous Clemson speech.
Speaker 2:I'm still mystified as to why New Orleans let him walk away.
Speaker 1:Well, I think it's because of you had Jameis and he's prone to to turnovers and they wanted to get a more efficient quarterback. I get it whatever, um, but his presence in the locker room is still people. He's a leader, he's natural leader yeah and he didn't.
Speaker 1:He didn't do anything wrong, but you just you had a feeling, you know, derrick car, you just want to. I mean all it was a bad decision. I mean didn't do anything wrong, but you just had a feeling, you know, derek Carr, you just want to. I mean it was a bad decision. I mean I told you that was it. He didn't go there.
Speaker 1:What's funny is he didn't go there for the city of New Orleans. He went there for Sean Payton, but he loved the city of New Orleans and if you love the city of New Orleans, it loves you back. And Jameis loved the city of new orleans, it loves you back and jamis loved the city of new orleans, like. So it's just fun to see that kind of relationship and that bond develop. You know, because this is a quarterback. He didn't play, he got benched, he got injured his best season, but he showed up and he was a team guy, you know, and so, uh, it was fun. That was, that was my highlight of the super bowl oh the game was absolute, it was the best part of the crap.
Speaker 1:Kelsey's outfit was a little crazy going into the super bowl. That I don't know about that. Um taylor, swift was booed oh yeah yeah, but there was a real. There was really a lot of eagles fans at the game. I was at the. I was in the at, yeah, but there was really a lot of Eagles fans at the game. I was in the Atlanta airport. It was on Thursday.
Speaker 2:Well, yeah, Eagles fans are going to boo anybody. They're going to boo everybody.
Speaker 1:Well, they're going to definitely boo Taylor Swift when she's clearly a Chiefs fan.
Speaker 2:Right.
Speaker 1:But it was I mean.
Speaker 2:Swifties are a different read, though.
Speaker 1:So going into next year, eagles will be the clear favorite. I mean the moves they've made this offseason. How about the white boy, dejuan?
Speaker 2:Cooper.
Speaker 1:DeJean, cooper DeJean, with the pick six on Mahomes.
Speaker 2:You saw the elite athletic ability on that one.
Speaker 1:He baited him. They had Mahomes running throwing not seeing things, and the pick six where he took it to the house, showed his ability. I think he's the punt returner as well. And then the next throw Mahomes throws a pick, a great diving catch by that. What was it? Who's the linebacker?
Speaker 2:Linebacker yeah, another guy that they picked up yeah, just a one-year guy.
Speaker 1:Now first-team All-Pro Yep so.
Speaker 2:Right system Harry.
Speaker 1:Roseman well-deserved, I think he.
Speaker 2:Big Fangio man. We didn't really talk enough about him before the game and the coach that you guys, you know unlike.
Speaker 1:Sirianni, you got to give him credit. He didn't screw it up. No, he didn't Not at all, and I think a lot of that. When you have, it's because you have great leadership within the locker room. So the one thing that we'll deal with, and he knew that, so he doesn't care what you know and he does his stuff almost just to egg it on.
Speaker 2:So what do we think the impact that kellen moore was on that offense this year?
Speaker 1:listen, it's about players. Yeah, and jaylen hertz showed you what he was made of the two superbowls ago, all right, and what they did to compliment him, what he did to get better. That's what you saw. You saw a hungry led by a guy that was on a mission, and they weren't nobody was beating them, nobody, I mean, I was mentioning the Ravens or the Bills being maybe.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it was more about personnel. I think they were on a mission. You can clearly see nobody was getting in that way. I mean, look at the season they had. Look at Saquon's season. It goes down as the most yards ever by a running back. You had his going. He's trying. I mean, that was his career. He set a game.
Speaker 2:You know, like he's a giant.
Speaker 1:I mean this, is it Like, okay, I want to go somewhere and show what I'm worth? You had Jalen Hurts playing the team that he had lost to in the Super Bowl. You know you had so many guys like playing for everything. It was just an explosion. And the Chiefs were holding on all season and you could see the I mean the fight in the defense against the running game. You saw that against Saquon Barkley, but they weren't able to get anything going offensively and that just led to a complete blowout.
Speaker 2:Yeah, man, I'm still kind of just pretty crazy.
Speaker 1:Yeah, hey, you don't see it Tip of the gap to the. Eagles Tip of the gap to them. I mean how much money you would have made if you would have put money on Jalen Hurts having more yards than Saquon Junior was saying it the whole time, man.
Speaker 2:He was calling the Eagles. I should have listened to him. You should have Yep. I just couldn't see anybody.
Speaker 1:I didn't know that. Why didn't you deliver that information?
Speaker 2:I don't know man, I bricked.
Speaker 1:My bad. He actually watches the NFL every week. I value his opinion.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's a good one.
Speaker 1:We've had him on the show doing picks.
Speaker 2:He's a wizard.
Speaker 1:Well, junior, you were right, Jimmy was on a hot streak. Yeah, he knows, that's only the second loss. It does seem kind of when.
Speaker 1:In the Super Bowl, though, it's like it amplifies, yeah, and I think when you get your butt whooped like that, it kind of amplifies the loss. You know, like when you're talking about performances and who's the best and all that stuff, like look at Tom Brady's losses, right, I mean look at the loss against the Eagles. It came down to the last play and it wasn't his fault. I mean they couldn't stop Nick Foles and company and that was a shootout.
Speaker 2:It was also a shock. That was his best.
Speaker 1:He put up his best numbers in any Super Bowl in that performance. So it's like you look back at that, oh, his best, his law, he lost the one. So, um, he never had any stinkers. I mean he um, this one, it's bad.
Speaker 2:I don't think he ever had an offensive line. They got dominated.
Speaker 1:No, that's true, that's true and that's. But you get a. You got to make the adjustments. Yeah, move the coverage, do something. It's the pros. You had two weeks.
Speaker 2:That's it, though you had two weeks.
Speaker 1:You had two weeks. It'll just look totally outmatched, outcoached, didn't have any answers and I think just everything went off the rails. I mean, and then when you have your leader, when you have your clear leader, Mahomes clearly flustered Because when you can get pressure, they didn't blitz the whole game.
Speaker 2:He gave him 14 points, handed it to him. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 1:You don't recover from that you could see it. He had no answers and he knew it. He was like yeah, I got it, I got it, yeah, I got it.
Speaker 2:One play that stood out to me in the first half just a throwaway play was DeAndre Hopkins being wide open. When he finally broke open, mahomes had time, threw the ball and man, did DeAndre Hopkins look old trying to catch that ball? I mean, there was some drops man. Same thing with Kelsey.
Speaker 1:Yeah, kelsey looked old. The throws were at their feet. Uh, they could have been better throws, they still should have been catches that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's what they look, old man, like they're.
Speaker 1:They're stars games than anyone right and I'm not gonna sit here and bash on. They did they, you know, they still did something that no other team had ever done, by even getting to the super bowl after winning two Super Bowls in a row.
Speaker 2:That shit's hard man.
Speaker 1:You're talking about Hall of Famers that haven't been able to do it and Mahomes will be back. Andy Reid's not going anywhere, he's already said it. So they know what they need to do and they need to get O-line help. They need to get some more wide receivers. The defense still has dudes Bolden the linebacker. I like him. They still have a pretty good secondary. Aj Brown was on a mission.
Speaker 2:Devonta.
Speaker 1:Smith was on a mission and then they had the little physical slot dude was it's just a really well put together team. And then and then, not to mention the best o-line and d-line in the league. If you were to ask any any gm right now, who has the best o-line and D-line, who Looks like the Eagles do? Gotta be the Eagles, yeah.
Speaker 2:Incredible. Right Now we'll see what the Eagles D-line looks like after pre-agency.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the seasons change and people are going to get paid and some people will get paid elsewhere and we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 1:Most of their roster looks to be intact, um, at the key positions I mean saquon just got there yeah I know it's running back, but if you can do that, anything close to that, with that kind of talent and quarterback already in place, good luck. Now you got the, the commanders with the. I mean Jaden Daniels ain't going anywhere and you expect them to see what kind of pieces they can add. But I know who's? I mean I don't see the Giants or the Cowboys doing anything. So I mean, if I were, I I would. I would. I see commanders eagles both making the playoffs and that's it right, it's going to be those two man and uh, get in on that, um, but way too early for it.
Speaker 1:But credit to the chief, to the eagles. They end the run by the chiefs. They end the run by the chiefs. Um, I don't think, looking back, you know there's no. You still have to be in the games for it to be called decided by even a ref, you know, and you see how hard it is to survive and to just to see how much they got their ass whooped Right. It's kind of been like damn, how did they, how did they even get here?
Speaker 1:you know being pros right yeah, and andy reed game planning and steve spagnolia and calling blitzes correct. You know, like throughout the games, I think that's that doesn't get enough credit for the. You know, looking back at what this little run for them, you know, I and more because it's polarizing or you know to be made of little calls here and there, but a lot of them are in fact calls. They just don't like them or they don't want them to be called at that point of the game, which is hogwash. It always has been. It's either a foul or foul, you know.
Speaker 1:But um, yeah, man how can you have something that's a foul and then not be a foul later in the game? Then you're not being fair. So I don't, I don't. I never liked that argument since I was a little kid. But uh, we have a champion and it is your philadelphia eagles Eagles going into the season, though Jerry Jones was asked what he thought the chances were of the Eagles winning the division and having a Super Bowl championship.
Speaker 1:There's a very low percentage of this, uh, that is, uh smiles and glory holes we had to go, our ride was here, we got all right, we got to get on out of here, all right. But it's been another fun season, a good season against the spread for everyone Mike with the regular season, jimmy with the playoff championship.
Speaker 2:Regular season playoff champion.
Speaker 1:Regular season playoff champion Super Bowl loser.
Speaker 2:Jimmy Ramos there you go, yeah, get it right. Need the business card. We have hoops, I guess. There you go, yeah, get it right. Need the business card. Yeah, we have hoops.
Speaker 1:I guess that's the next big event. It'll be March Madness.
Speaker 2:Sadness.
Speaker 1:Yeah, then I'll start looking into the NBA. I still like the NBA playoffs. This will be the last year you get the TNT crew to watch old Chuck.
Speaker 2:They're going to hire James.
Speaker 1:Yeah, well, hey, that's the winner and people are going to watch. Just because he's in it, I know what he's going to have offers to do after he's done playing. That's just great if you're a fan of Jake like I am we got to get him on the show?
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, north Florida.
Speaker 1:Sports Network.
Speaker 2:I mean next team.
Speaker 1:He goes on. We're going to get the jersey right up on the wall.
Speaker 2:All right, hell, I'll bring him two pounds of Connecticut County sausage. That's good stuff, raiders.
Speaker 1:I know you said Chip Kelly wouldn't have it, but why not I?
Speaker 2:mean why not?
Speaker 1:I want a better running game for him man Whatever man.
Speaker 1:I just want him to have a chance to play for a season, like, just as long as he doesn't get hurt. He's the guy Like, give him the year. You know like we're going to a place, you know we're going to fight all year 500, even if we're not. But we're not just going to like bench him, I'm going to stick with him. I like it. I would like to for it to be a with a. I mean a guy with a. You know you can call plays, have the running game, call the plays that he runs best. Don't give him chances to do that. Do what he does. Alright, it's fun to see him the game sucked, I mean if you're an Eagles fan.
Speaker 2:you love it yeah.
Speaker 1:And I got Jalen Hurts. He's a nothing but class act. Well, we got hoops coming up. We'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network. I'm goddamn madder than shit.
