Speaker 1:

In the world where everybody just does their job, we understand that the north florida sports network and we got a big show for you, as we're gonna talk some college baseball it's winding down here and nba playoffs, nba draft lottery.

Speaker 2:

who knows, man, summer vacation, I might get into some movie talk. Top five movie candies might come back, who knows? Oh, my God, I got a lot of things on tip, but if you haven't done so, download, subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. The podcast is available everywhere where you can download them. Let's get up outside. All right, it's heating up outside, good God, oh yeah, let's talk weather. Sweaty, yeah, sweaty.

Speaker 3:

Sweaty.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, we got good smells on Things are sweaty out there. Different skill sets Good for everybody to get off to. Yeah, we'll get there later. Um what we got jimmy reno here, our fsu baseball guy and uh, I guess yeah two or three in cow right.

Speaker 3:

He got shut out in the middle game but I guess that's baseball yeah, I mean I think it's the first time they face the righty with a nasty changeup all season. Florida state doesn't have one on the roster, so they definitely didn't practice against yeah, well, they're looking good.

Speaker 2:

Number two and a lot of in some polls. Uh, one series left.

Speaker 3:

It's a big yeah it's a big shit, doesn't matter coaches poll.

Speaker 2:

It's a big series, um against uh. Top the other top opponent in the acc it's a three, three dog race to get the number one seed between florida state, north carolina and nc state uh based on yeah different scenarios that play out um if this use handles their business, though they get the one seed. Well, maybe If they sweep, they get it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, if they sweep, they sweep. Georgia Tech's still alive there too, possibly. But yeah, I think they've done enough to earn that national seed, which will get them hosting Super Regional all the way, regional through Super Regional. So I mean whatever Big series, like you said, it's baseball.

Speaker 2:

What are you starting to think about this team? You know, as far as strengths, what's it's going to be a demise. Do you think it has a shot?

Speaker 3:

I mean, dude, I think anybody has a shot this year. It's kind of wide open. Huh yeah, you get one of those throwbacks where you know, remember Fresno State barely made the tournament and won the whole thing. I can see that happening this year. But ultimately I think the lack of bullpen will doom Florida State. They'll run into somebody that can handle the offense. They strike out a lot, so somebody will be able to keep them relatively low score. And then the bullpen. I don't think they got the horses in there.

Speaker 2:

So you're going to need long outings out of your starters, hopefully. Yeah, all right, softball, they're hosting a regional. How about that? Yeah, I mean, they're good job. It's gonna be a top five showdown with unc coming into town yeah, they're good man, they're.

Speaker 3:

You know, they're just winning. One would be and be something, just don't get swept yeah, just don't get swept um.

Speaker 2:

We're gonna have some more baseball talk coming up here in the next few weeks yeah, there's still two months left of it, the whole north florida scene. What? What to expect if you have a son or or I guess daughter, bill let's wants to play? What's the youth baseball going up to high school? What's it like compared to back in the day we're going to talk about that? We got a special guest lined up for it, um, but I got my basketball guy here. Yeah, let's talk hoops man um.

Speaker 2:

It's NBA playoffs, it's NBA draft lottery, it's conspiracy theory times.

Speaker 1:

It's rigged.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes, there it is.

Speaker 1:

It is rigged.

Speaker 2:

There it is as the Dallas Mavericks come up with the number one pick. Having the least amount of odds or balls to win the lottery, they come out with the number one pick and it's just odd, in the next draft lottery, after trading away Luka, they're going to pretty much get Cooper flagged.

Speaker 3:

Brilliant replacement for Luka.

Speaker 1:

Well, it happened when New Orleans traded Anthony Davis to LA. They got the first pick in the draft and got dry on it's funny how that happened I mean that's weird how that happened I mean cleveland's just gonna stay.

Speaker 2:

You know, get lebron. I mean it's going back and it's not every year. If they don't have, if there's not like a bona fide stud, they'll probably actually do it fairly when anthony you know, it really burns me.

Speaker 1:

What burns me about that more than anything is if we didn't win, if the heat didn't win, that stupid play-in tournament, then we were going to be in dallas's spot. So those ping pong balls would have just had a heat symbol on them instead of a navav symbol, and the Heat would be drafting Cooper Flagg right now.

Speaker 2:

I mean Dallas fans were up in arms ownership season ticket holders saying they're not going to renew their tickets and all of a sudden they get the number one pick. It's just.

Speaker 3:

Right, so I got it.

Speaker 2:

There has to be some collusion there, right, because it's beneficial for the NBA to have two superstars well it used to be uh, you would get, it would go to the worst record and now the three worst records get the same odds. They both have 14 chance. So look at it like that. I guess I mean Jeff.

Speaker 1:

No, I like the idea. I like the idea of taking, like, the last two weeks of the season or whatever, and you take all the teams that have been eliminated and make them play end-of-season tournament and the winner of the crappy teams gets the number one pick.

Speaker 2:

How about? No, I like it. How about, once you're mathematically eliminated, whoever has the best winning percentage after that gets the number one pick? Yeah, like there's got to be something like that. I have the same idea. That's a good idea.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it actually there's got to be something to make you not want to tank right and then and like have a direct line to where the pick is. So we can't go on about the frozen envelope in 85 that sent Patrick Ewing to the.

Speaker 2:

Knicks. Honestly, you have almost another baby season, with other storylines developing as you round up the regular season with teams that are not I would have loved the Heat to have been instead of that play-in tournament.

Speaker 1:

Instead of that play-in tournament, dude, the Heat could have won the number one pick tournament.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

I would have been way more into that than I was. Those two play-in games, which were fun. I don't like it.

Speaker 2:

I don't like the lottery. It seems to be something that Stern developed to control the narrative.

Speaker 3:

Wait, you mean something from the NBA that's self-serving? Yeah, what? Yes?

Speaker 2:

yes, something from the nba that's self-serving, yeah, what? Yes, yes, uh, I don't like the tanking aspect of it, just because they play 82 games. So I definitely am all in on this, this idea, because you have fans out there, play a lot of money, go to these games. There's so many of them and it just seems ridiculous that so many teams are tanking as early as January. So it's, it's ridiculous. Like, I mean, you're following the team, you don't. You stop following it, you don't care. But if you have something like this, but that okay, well, we're eliminated from the playoffs, but have you seen next year's class? Or we need to get in, and it doesn't have to be, or the number one pick, maybe we can get up, move up a spot. It makes every game competitive as you end up this season. I think you get. I think it's a great idea. They need to do something. It's similar to something like the pitch clock baseball never did it. They finally did it. You never thought they would.

Speaker 1:

Yeah there's got to be something, because I mean, you're you're talking about like a third of the league that is not playing for shit more than half the season.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, yeah it's.

Speaker 2:

It's not like the other playing tournament on one side. There has to be something on the other side, because there's nothing to play for half your season and there's nothing to be excited about. And this is hope. This is hope sprinkled in in a different way, but what's the argument of this?

Speaker 1:

situation, though, like could you say, you're the teams that wouldn't that will purposely not lose in the first round of the playoff, better they can get the first you need to start getting better. Yeah, right, like you just don't take, just try to get better, you just try to get better.

Speaker 2:

I think that's that would change everybody's goal Get rid of tanking.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

It would just get rid of it. It would make competitive basketball, the forefront in winning games, back to what it should be.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it would be way better than the actual in-season tournament, which is pointless and stupid.

Speaker 2:

Yeah Well, Tatum Torres Achilles is out probably next year too. Damn, 55 million too. So the.

Speaker 1:

The celtics are in trouble, man. Um, I saw that dude. They're favored by like five I could actually see them. I could actually see them getting the win tonight, because I mean, the celtics are freaking loaded, they're loaded.

Speaker 2:

They've been in every game um. They lost 20 point leads in the first two losses. They had um, so they won game three by 30. So it's not it's not over yet no, the series is over.

Speaker 1:

but I could see the self-picks getting this win and getting this win, and then it goes back to Madison Square Garden for game six. No, jason Tatum. No way the Celtics win that game.

Speaker 2:

There's just something that I just can't, something about New York, maybe.

Speaker 3:

You like that Brunson guy man, you like his game, I do Brunson's awesome, I do.

Speaker 2:

I think he's a perfect match for that city and he's got everything there. There's a sports and bridges.

Speaker 1:

Man bridges is a throwback type of player that's fun to watch for the next fair.

Speaker 2:

They're too tough a team to lose three in a row, I mean og og avanobi, or however you say his name.

Speaker 1:

That guy's a badass dude. I mean like the. The knicks are a good team dude and the. I just don't I?

Speaker 2:

I think you're probably right, but I mean I, if you told me this, like if you said boston wins tonight, they're motivated to hit threes. They say, hey guys, we're more than just tatum. You know, you know, and they, they win game five. New york comes home, lays an egg at home, you know, doesn't win, and then next thing you know you got a game seven in boston. All the pressure in the world back on new york. I'm that's improbable, I'm just saying it's. I don't, I don't find it over yet because I mean this is yeah, it's over.

Speaker 2:

The celtics are done just like uh just like denver's done yeah, now, I agree with that. There was and I'm with you there. I think we said before game fours New York, boston and Oklahoma City. Denver was game five, whoever wins. It was actually game four and Oklahoma City won that game and then they ended up winning game five, just like you saw.

Speaker 2:

Too much young talent man, talent man, yeah, and not enough depth for denver yeah and then maybe you know they're letting them play and I think, uh, right now, because I was just who, if you had to pick one team to win it all, I'm picking okc yeah, I think I would have to pick them too they have to be the favorite. They uh do the regular season best team left after cleveland got the mvp they got the mvp they play good defense been challenged.

Speaker 2:

They played good teams and then you lose. Stephen curry's injured lakers are out. The challenges are seeming to fall off at Minnesota's left. So the ratings galore. Series of the Western Conference Finals OKC Minnesota. I'm actually really excited for it.

Speaker 1:

It's going to be a good matchup.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean I'm looking to see you got Sashay Gildress Alexander against Ant-Man. Those are like two of the best players in the league. I mean Canada versus USA.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, those guys.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 2:

In respect. I'm looking forward to that matchup. Like it doesn't look good on, you know cities matching up but I think it would be good for let's get some new faces.

Speaker 3:

it's been the same crap that's why I want indiana, new york indiana they're on the way to the eastern finals yeah, looking like a new york knicks indiana pacer physical ass anthony mason rick smith, well, indiana plays a different style.

Speaker 2:

You know they played style that you have to play if you're in Indiana, which is play kind of like an NBA Hamilton type of style.

Speaker 1:

You know, what they actually kind of remind me of is the Heat teams that made their finals run.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they really do.

Speaker 1:

The culture. You play good defense and you got guys that can get a bucket when they need it. Jimmy Butler can always get that bucket and Halliburton can always get that bucket.

Speaker 2:

At this point, Yep, and they're playing physical. They're not gonna, they're, they're, they're going to adjust. Indiana's looking like a really good chance to even make it to the finals.

Speaker 1:

If you can coach JJ Barea to a ring, you can get thej barea to a ring.

Speaker 2:

You can get the indiana pacers to the nba finals rick carlisle yeah, so if you had to pick now, do you think indiana okc is your final?

Speaker 1:

I would. I think indiana in a matchup with the knicks. I think indiana takes them. I think it's a good throwback series like y'all were saying yeah, yeah, I mean one, just name wise, you know, pacers nicks, we remember that from the 90s, but actual, stylistically right yeah um, it's more similar to a 90s style game where you'd be in the 90s, low 100s.

Speaker 2:

I mean just that the coaches are no nonsense. Tough guys that are, you know wouldn't? This is going to be a fun series. Yeah, you know, boston still has a chance going to be a fun series.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, boston still has a chance.

Speaker 2:

I know I told you that no, they're done and then uh.

Speaker 1:

Minnesota, one game away from clinching it Um yeah, I mean, I think our conference finals are already set. So there's still, it's still Denver, and uh, golden state still alive but I think If playoff Jimmy can get one game and Steph Curry can come back one-legged, then maybe that's just an injury that he's never had.

Speaker 2:

I saw one of his interviews. You could tell in his face he knew the extent of it and even if he were to come back, he's not going to be able to run around and that's the strength that's him, that's the strength of his game off the ball. You know the way he changed your whole strategy defensively and if he's not able to do that, you're you're toast.

Speaker 2:

And it changes your whole strategy offensively If you got to run an offense through Jimmy Butler if it wasn't for that you know the culture in golden state this series should be already over, or it should be more dominantly scored.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we're going to have a bunch of gentlemen sweeps. It looks like I don't know what's going to. All five-game series.

Speaker 2:

Honestly, both finals the Western and the Eastern Conference finals you wouldn't have picked it going into the playoffs, because usually you see these teams that haven't been there before it takes time. Indiana has been here before. They were here just last year. Now they're healthy. Watch out for them. New York has been to this moment. They haven't really been to the next step. Let's see if they can get by that. It's one more big win away from getting to the farthest they've been since in what 90s or 2000?

Speaker 1:

yeah, that was 99.

Speaker 3:

Probably you do that, alan houston charlie ward was still playing for him, so he might have been coming off the bench on that team for new york.

Speaker 2:

Uh, they got it tonight. Uh think, okay, c's your favorite, my rooting interest I'm actually rooting for the T-Wolves some about. I mean I'm trying to. There's no FSU players on any of the teams.

Speaker 1:

I used to like KG back when he was on the.

Speaker 2:

T-Wolves and man liked Hamilton yeah, I mean he was?

Speaker 3:

he looked like he was going to come here for a minute, yeah, and he's like, nah, I ain't really going.

Speaker 1:

But Nah, I think I'll go for it, yeah.

Speaker 2:

It'll be a fun matchup. We'll see, but I think OKC's got to be your if you were to pick, like if you said hey, you got to go into this, you got to go place a bet right now, today today on who's going to win the nba championship.

Speaker 1:

That's it, one team it would have to be okay. I mean young or not, dude like let's do the way.

Speaker 2:

it's kind of lined up for them. Who's next if I'm taking okc first? First You're up, next you get to pick a team. Who's up? Justin?

Speaker 1:

You go. Honestly I'd take the Pacers Wow.

Speaker 2:

Second Okay, all right, and then that? So Knicks are still alive, boston's still alive, denver's still alive, golden State's still alive, minnesota's still alive, jimmy. Who are you picking? Second Minnesota still alive, jimmy. Who you picking?

Speaker 3:

second. Third I'm going Minnesota just cause I am man.

Speaker 2:

I got Minnesota actually, and as mine too, but we'll go three, and then there's, I guess, new York, would be four, followed by Denver, boston and I think Golden State is the smallest.

Speaker 1:

I'd actually probably put Boston.

Speaker 2:

No, I think Denver, Wow over Denver. Well, Denver still has the Joker.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but they only got like six guys.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but those guys have done it before. They're champions. Jamal Murray can go off for 50 on any number.

Speaker 1:

They do Jalen Brown, Derek White, I know hey, KP Pritchard who's played awesome this year Better without Tatum tonight. I think there's a really good chance they will. Actually, I can definitely see Jalen Brown going off.

Speaker 3:

They just rally around the loss of their leader.

Speaker 2:

They play more to the open guy.

Speaker 1:

Well, and Jalen Brown's wanted to be the alpha there forever anyway, dude. So like, here's your champ buddy.

Speaker 2:

Yep, well, uh we had to go. Oh, we got to get on out of here.

Speaker 3:

Our ride's here, but what do we got Recruiting, yeah. We do Miami recruiting, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, from Miami got some badass linemen yeah.

Speaker 3:

Number one player in the country landed yesterday, jackson Cantwell out of Missouri.

Speaker 1:

All right.

Speaker 3:

Offensive tackle we Beat out Georgia and Oregon. Well, I mean, i'mwell out of Missouri, all right. Offensive tackle we Beat out Georgia and Oregon.

Speaker 2:

Well, I mean I'm not going to say I mean Miami has, it's a good place to go for a line.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean dude, he's always been there. You're going to get competitive NIL, you're going to get to go and get coached by not only Mario but his offensive line coach, mirabel, and then you're not going to have to get coached by Stacy Searles at Georgia. So that's like it was pretty much a no-brainer. They did a lot of subscription selling, getting clicks, trying to draw up some interest. He also drew Rosenhaus as his agent.

Speaker 2:

That's what it is now. Recruiting is more of an agent show now than it ever was.

Speaker 3:

But that guy, man, the kid, took a trip to Miami like a month and a half ago, and that was it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

One trip down there.

Speaker 2:

So no, it just tells you you have to have a strategy. I mean, I know you're upset for Florida State's end their lack of high school recruiting.

Speaker 3:

I don't even care anymore dude, if they're not going to care, then I'm not going to care. That's the way I treat that.

Speaker 1:

Put this freshman kid as your right tackle and you got Malagu or whatever, however you say his name as left tackle.

Speaker 2:

I like that line, oh yeah, it's going to be up to Carson for Miami. We know that. And that defense Same thing FSU, you got it's going to be Castellanos. And that defense Same thing FSU you got just going to be Castellanos. And the defense A lot of new faces, new skill shits, new skill shits. You know a lot of times how does he feel about the offense? Been in a lot of places, coached some different quarterbacks. A lot of places, coached some different quarterbacks, a lot of different skill sets. You know, we're just going to try to wear them down, you know.

Speaker 3:

How do I feel about our quarterbacks? Well, we're going to run the ball a lot.

Speaker 2:

Run the ball a lot.

Speaker 3:

That lets you know how I feel about it.

Speaker 2:

Well, we got a big baseball series this weekend Top ball series this weekend, top five matchup right here in Tallahassee. We'll watch that, we'll react to it. And we still got the NBA playoffs too. We'll finalize that and we'll talk to you next time, right here, on the North Florida Sports Network.
