FSU at a Crossroads

Austin Fletcher Season 4 Episode 387
SPEAKER_02:

Let me ask you one question.

SPEAKER_00:

The note floor is bono the note floor is bono. The note floor is bono network.

SPEAKER_02:

Hey it is just another football bucket. I got Jimmy Reno back again. So we're gonna react to FSU Miami. Dark Civinals are still ranked in the AP pool. A lot of crazy games. They got some help with that one. Yeah. Couple other teams dropped the ball. Oh, look at you, James Franklin. Oh my goodness. Yeah, that's pathetic. Florida. They look good. Sarkeegian. Yeah, Texas might be on the hot seat. They got Oklahoma next. Uh it sucks to be an Arizona Cardinal fan. I mean, or just a like. Oh my god, that was. I don't think there's ever been a team that lost a game that way. They suck. That's the worst loss of the year. And that's one of the worst losses of all time. You don't all those things happen in the same game. You drop the well, I guess dropping the ball as you cross the goal line happens again. You thought that since it just happened last week, that coaches would be like, hey guys, don't have that. But no, this guy hadn't had a touchdown all year. Well, good coach. And he dropped the damn ball again to ice the game. Then they get a pick, fumble it, but lose it, and the team recovers it with a touchdown. Titans end up winning 22. It happens when you stuck, man. 22-21. That was insane. That was a great throw by Cam Ward. To get him in range, but it was. It was. But goodness great. That that's hard to believe. There's no way that play ever happens again. And then to have it have a guy drop the ball and then have that crazy play in the same game is just Yeah. New ways to lose, man. That's how bad it is. But football Monday. I want to get Jimmy Reno's reaction to 0-2. 3-2 Florida State. 0-2 in conference.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. For the fourth time under Norville. Yikes. In six years. Yikes. He's now 20-22 in conference play. Yikes, God. For a reference point, Florida State didn't lose their 22nd ACC game until they had played their 133rd ACC game. That was in 2008. Yikes. So it took 16, 17 seasons. He did it. He's done it. He's done it in six. Five. Yeah, five and some change. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Wow. Man, that's not good. No, it's not. It's really just.

SPEAKER_01:

You gotta put it into perspective a little bit, like Florida State was really, really good when they got into the ACC. Oh, yeah, you got a dominant program.

SPEAKER_02:

And then COVID year, right? I guess, man. I mean, COVID year, you had it, but then you had an understanding.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean, taking over taking over for Willie Taggart was probably bigger than COVID.

SPEAKER_02:

It's just, but it's average. And it's below average. Yeah, it's below average. And you started this year, you've made all the changes. Now you're 0-2 in the conference. You wanted you look forward to this this time because the pit game was the game you were circling.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, yeah. I mean, I didn't I didn't expect to beat Miami.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

The uh the end, the fourth quarter, and them continuing to to actually try. That made that made the final score, but much closer than I expected. It that team gives up last year. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So, I mean, it's good to see them fight. But Miami's defense was something, man. And and I don't think they're gonna play a defense like that. No, they won't.

SPEAKER_01:

Um not in terms of pass rush. Like there's nobody like like Bain.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I don't think I haven't seen anybody in the country that is better at their position than he is at rushing the passer. Um, he he he made impacts in the running game. That that yeah, that ended around to Danzi. Shit didn't work because they had to run around him every time.

SPEAKER_02:

I was back the offense the defensive coordinator from Miami just really he just got he was all in great great game plan, they executed it. I mean, they knew what was coming, yeah, they were prepared.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I'm and yeah, it's it's not it's not hard. Like you're gonna make Casellanos have to beat you from the pocket and he's not gonna be able to do it. Because he's like five foot four. Right. Um his timing is not great. You know, some of those throws he was late on, both interceptions he was late and comp just horrible decisions. I can't see it. Right. The fumble, Chromo, he's a freshman, it's a big game. Guy made a play on the ball. You can kind of understand how that happens. It's just that the timing of it and the situation was absolutely brutal.

SPEAKER_02:

And they made you pay with with uh just a dynamic weapon in Tony.

SPEAKER_01:

This kid, God, yeah, and that's 17. Right. When I say recruiting, and like, you know, you when you say like we're texting back in Florida, you can't out coach recruiting. Like, I'm not talking about stars on websites. I'm talking about like this is a kid that had actually decommitted from Miami at one point. You know, he was open, exploring his options, getting other, you know, Florida was hard after him, Florida State, Ohio, like other teams coming after him. Miami did what they had to do to get him back and keep him there. And on the on the website, he's a three-star, you know? Really? Yeah, he wasn't highly rated. He's at the middle of the pack, three-star. He's the best player because he's 5'10 and he didn't go to camps. Right. If you would have watched him in high school and watched him in the state championship game where he had to play quarterback, you could see this kid moves differently than everybody else on the field. Like this shit is easy for him to where he can go and line up at quarterback and make plays there. Man. Three star. Right. Right. And that's like that's what Miami's done. Yeah, they've gotten highly rated talent, but they've also managed to keep kids that are really good at home. Yeah. For one reason whatever reason it is. You know, Reuben Bain was a kid, but you know, he's got family connections to Miami. He's got guys he's related to that are on staff. Like shit like that. That's what they've done. That's what FSU has not done. Um there's no really indication that they're gonna get any better than what we've done in the past five years under Norvell, which is you know, somewhere in the teens, you'll get a few good players, but a lot of the high school kids that you get are gonna end up being pushed out and transfers will come in and take their spot. And you're gonna have to just live and die by that. Um that's not gonna, you know. Again, I didn't expect to be Miami's really good. They're really, really good. They're gonna be in the playoffs, they're gonna win the ACC.

SPEAKER_02:

You got an AC, but then they have both both guys on that on the team, with the other guy that's beaten you as a senior, right? Right Daniels. Yeah, and he's a transfer. He's a transfer. Right, he's a transfer.

SPEAKER_01:

So um that like you gonna have to, but you need to go out and get that that kind of guy too. You do, but you also have to look at it on the other side of the ball. It's like, well, you know, nobody in the secondary did anything. The guy that was has been your your best corner and and Jerry Wilson was clearly outmatched. Earl Little is you know 100% susceptible for the play fake, which you saw time and time again. And it comes down to like, okay, well, those are two transfers. Like, what about the guys that you've recruited out of high school? You know, there's there's kids that were highly coveted that have been here two, three years that still aren't doing anything. Like, wouldn't that have been the time to kind of see it's the across the board not being able to identify talent? Right. Or if you do, not being able to develop it. Yeah, it's it goes hand in hand, and some of your some of your guys end up really good. You know, look, Randy Pittman's probably our best consistent offensive weapon right now. And that's a kid that was a three-star out of Panama City. You know, and you you had him committed, and then you kind of just let him dip and go to UCF, but you got him back.

SPEAKER_02:

Um the recruiting stars are you have to get guys that you gotta get football players. Yeah, you gotta get guys that are good football players. Right. Exactly. Number 10 was the best player on the field. He looked incredible. He looked like Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean, he looked I was I was encouraged by you know, some of the younger players on the defensive line actually standing up to that O-line. Yeah. They they could just throw the ball, but Yeah, the they did just slow down the run. Right. And when Miami got up 28-3, uh, you could tell that Mario was gonna try and take the air out of the ball and just grind clock, not and the defensive line kind of stood up to that to some degree, which was promising because they're young guys. The Desert Twins.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, yeah, those Daniel Lyons, you know. You got so you got Miami, though, who's they have a transfer at center, but but those guys are recruited from high school. Right. Those those those road graders, dude. And then the guys on the defensive line. Yeah. Guys at high school.

SPEAKER_01:

Those are Messador was a transfer, but he's been in Miami for three seasons.

SPEAKER_02:

Christoph knew you knew he was gonna do when he got there. He's gonna just recruit both lines of scrimmage.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, you have to. Any way you can do it, you have to add talent to your roster.

SPEAKER_02:

The one time Norvell had a good team. Well, he had two good teams. And on both those teams, he had Jared Verse. He had some goddamn cords.

SPEAKER_01:

Get, then you gotta keep looking. Well, you gotta swing for those every year. You look at how he got it. Okay, Jared Verse was a kid that nobody knew about, and all of a sudden just turned into a monster in one offseason, and it was it's as much luck as anything. Like, hey, we're breaking down Syracuse film. Who's this kid for Albany running down Syracuse running back? And then they got on him.

SPEAKER_02:

And it it and you saw how much of a freak he is. Right, right. And not only a freak, it's just the I think it's the football player in him, like his drive. Yeah, it's you have to find guys like that.

SPEAKER_01:

Right, and it rubs off on the rest of your team all of a sudden, like a guy like Fisk wants to come and play with that.

SPEAKER_02:

So you can't fall like you got it if you see the guy you want, and they I mean they did it with Chroma, I guess, at the running back. I like the Desur guys. You hope that they can keep it. Yeah, there's young talent on the team. They got they got a nice recruiting class so far. Um what's okay, yeah. So if there's any hope this year or or for Mike Norvell, what do you need to see?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I guess you gotta define what what the hope is. Like not firing him. Not firing him?

SPEAKER_02:

Um not firing him and and being being okay about you being like, I guess we can have a shot. I mean, not firing him isn't gonna like that. I mean, they went undefeated. Right, right. Right? He didn't the injury was kind of fluky. The committee screwed him up. Right, but that so he can do it.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. I don't I don't know if he can get that kind of talent on one team again. When you look at everything that lined up, I I mean you you'd have to find a kid that is you know going under the radar at pass rush, and it which isn't gonna happen anymore. You know, the the portal blew up. All these G5 schools, all these FCS schools are being rated now by every big program.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep. If you can play, you know.

SPEAKER_01:

Jared Verse had maybe like Nebraska and Tennessee was the competition for him coming out of the portal. You know, if you if it had been two years into the future, you know, if he's coming out and say 2024, dude, he's got every single top program coming after him. He's got the Ohio States, the Oregon, he's got everybody coming after him. You know, if you can find a quarterback like Jordan Travis that just discovers that he can be an elite talent back there, then yeah, that's great. But again, it's kind of, you know, he's not even the reason Travis was at FSU. All right, it's Kendall Bryles. All right, well, um So I mean, in order to not fire him, like not he's not getting fired. They don't have the money for that. Right. You know, you're looking at like 2028, 2029 before the buyout even becomes reasonable. So you gotta kind of adjust your expectations. Like lower them. You hope for a season that doesn't go 0-2 to start the ACC. Today I mean I think if they keep some of the young talent they got, then next year it could be maybe better in that regard. Such a brilliant I think the sample size is big enough now to where he is what he is, man. He's gonna be a guy that's a 500 coach in the SEC or the ACC.

SPEAKER_03:

Help!

SPEAKER_01:

So six and six, eight and four. He's gonna do about as well as your producer's doing. Yeah, I can't find it. We are back. I don't know, man. We'll we'll see. I mean, every week is gonna be who who really knows what's gonna happen. You got Pitt coming in.

SPEAKER_02:

It's a must-win. Yeah, I mean, you you you'd really, really you don't want to see three straight losses, but again, this is what you could see. Yeah. Well, anyway. Pit's definitely good enough to beat you. They are, and it's a noon game coming off a huge game that you had.

SPEAKER_01:

Number one running defense in the country, statistically.

SPEAKER_02:

They started a a freshman last week, but he looked like he's better than what they had.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

So you're not gonna have a lot of tape on him.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. And I honestly I don't think it matters about the opposing quarterback. What's gonna matter is can Florida State score every time they get the ball? And if the answer is no, then there's a real big chance that you can lose the game. Because this defense is not good.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I best they can I just it was a well, I mean, this this two weeks in a row where Tony White has cited alignment issues as being their biggest problem. Again? We are and that I'm kind of just sitting like, what the fuck are you talking about, man? You can't get lined up correctly two games in a row?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yeah, I don't know, man. What are you gonna do?

SPEAKER_01:

Close?

SPEAKER_02:

Try not to get too mad if they lose.

SPEAKER_01:

That's what you're gonna do.

SPEAKER_03:

Hey! Found it!

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, man, I you know, eight eight and four would be pretty sweet. That's what I said before the year, but I'm telling you right now, if eight and four is a possibility, here's what you gotta do. You gotta win this Saturday. You gotta put this behind you. You gotta stick with what the positives are. Yeah, you can't you can't lose anymore, Holmes. That's the effort. Stick with the effort. Uh need the defense to play inspired. If they play as hard as they did against Miami, against Pitt, we're gonna win. I'll guarantee I'll say that right now. Yeah. If they play as hard as they did against Miami, against Pitt, they'll we will win the game.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, they're but the offense can't turn the ball over. Right. You can't have those turnovers. Um you gotta find a way to get a pass rush going. Now, Pitt doesn't have the offensive line that Miami does. Yeah. So you got to get some pressure.

SPEAKER_02:

They don't have the running backs, and they don't have the defensive ends that Miami does. So you should be able to establish some sort of run game. I know they have the number one defense so coming in, but that's against two.

SPEAKER_01:

So Yeah, well, yeah, Louisville can run the ball. That's one thing they've been able to do. But yeah, they haven't really played a ton. Um I mean, they got beat by West Virginia, so I'm not gonna sit here and and act like Pitt is a world beater, but you you know You don't have the dudes. We're not world beater. Yeah, right. We're rally to win. We're just your middle of the pack ACC team that can pull off a shocking upset and then lose five games the rest of the season. You know, it it's it's kind of what Mike Norvell is as a coach.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm a this one has me scared in terms of I I I like this team. I still think it plays hard. It's fun to watch. I mean, I think the guy I think in score, I think Miami's really, really damn good. Yeah, they're good. It's the what it's the it's the team that is clearly the best team that Miami's had in a while. But you shouldn't be able to get you're not gonna face a defense like that. That's a that's almost like a pro defense, almost. I mean, just this the way the times are the NILs and and everything, and the stuff they were able to add to what they already had.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, like I it's like I said last week when I was saying it was a bad matchup. It was you got a pass rush that's with two weeks to get prepared for it. And a quarterback that does not do well thinking on his feet, thinking on the run.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, you can the offense can still it can still be explosive. Um, it can still it should be able to run the ball and move the ball against Pitt. I'd like to see Castellanos throw with more efficiency, no turnovers. So let's try to call a better game where he doesn't have the opportunity to do that. Hopefully, maybe some quick passes.

SPEAKER_01:

If he if he puts it the film and and sees that he probably should have taken what they were giving him.

SPEAKER_02:

Just simplify the game. You don't have if it's not there, don't take it. You can there's players on this team, get them the ball, let them run. Get them the ball, let see what they can do. I mean, you're you can't try to be the hero. You can't run around and let's if you're gonna run around, run around and get down, or run around and get out of bounds, and don't try to throw because you're not big enough, and your arm's not strong enough. No, that that's yeah. He doesn't have the like he doesn't have a Kyler Murray type arm. No, he doesn't. So like he doesn't have that baseball hose that he, you know, that you see Murray have or Winston. He doesn't have that.

SPEAKER_01:

He can throw some nice passes, but you know, throw it across your body deep into the end zone. You don't have it. That's not gonna, yeah, it's never gonna work.

SPEAKER_02:

That's for the few who have the the rifle cannons, and he doesn't have one.

SPEAKER_01:

But yeah, this is a big game, man. You you you want to win this before you take that road trip out to Stanford.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, and then you have some games that you should, should take care of business, and you want to see this team go on a little streak.

SPEAKER_01:

I'm saying you can't you can't lose the rest of your home game. Any any of them. You got a rally here. You got Pitt, you got Wake, you got Virginia Taylor. No more home games. That's three left. Yeah, three left, and I you can't.

SPEAKER_02:

And you gotta win the Stanford game on the road. So there's your four ACC wins. Yeah. There's your 500 ACC season right there. Right. That's that's a minimum. And that'll that'll that's losing to NC State. Yeah. And that's losing to Clemson. Clemson.

SPEAKER_01:

And that puts you there at 24 and 24 on your career in six years. And four and four. That's what your average is. Yeah, 500.

SPEAKER_02:

That's a big average. And that's that's you gotta go on a streak to get there. Yeah. You gotta win. Yeah. You just gotta win those games that you're supposed to win. And and you know what? You might be able you should be able to beat NC State, hopefully. You can learn from that, and maybe you can sneak one in. Florida's not looking like an easy game. I don't know if it's a lot of things. It's looking hard. Yeah, the the I it just so that's another loss. So seven and eight and four would have to be you lose, you have to beat NC State or Clemson or Florida. One of those games.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I mean, and he could really use it. You you really need to beat either Clemson or Florida. I I would say they're they're bigger games than NC State.

SPEAKER_02:

You're in the mode now where a rivalry game win. Because if you lose to Florida and Miami again and Clemson in the same year.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, Clemson and Florida both being down is down, yeah, you know, wanting their coaches fired and and gone. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But uh, you know. What else? What else, man? Well, at least it's not James Franklin, though. Whoo, goodness, man. You talk about a buyout. Oh my god. They went and were the first win of the season for UCLA.

SPEAKER_01:

That's the first time an 0-4 team has beat a top 10 team in the last 40 years. It's insane how bad that was.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Man. Tim Skipper and old baby Newheisel put together a game plan. And they like they lit up the defense. That's the thing. Like, Penn State's defense has been carrying them all season. Right. That was that was shocking. Texas losing in Gainesville. You know, Sarkeesian's not any better than James Franklin when it comes to playing against. You know, and Florida's not really even any good, but that's an embarrassing loss. Oh, God, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, it's really bad. Florida, though, uh, getting a big win against Texas. I mean, Billy Napier, you saw a look in two's eye.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, yeah, sure.

SPEAKER_02:

Sure did. Well, they finally got Dallas back. The receiver. Yeah, that helps. You get a weapon back. Some more reps.

SPEAKER_01:

He didn't look as bad, but it it helps a lot when the opposing quarterback is worse.

SPEAKER_02:

Right. The two most overrated players. Looks like Arch made one good throw, but Texas man. Yikes. You're gonna play uh Oklahoma next week. Right.

SPEAKER_01:

So that could be you won't have to go up against Mathir, but I mean you're gonna have to go up against that Burnt Vegetables defense, and that's good luck with that.

SPEAKER_02:

All right. Um so then you have the NFL and Vikings won the early game. That Buck Seahawks game was Buck Seahawks game was incredible. Yeah, really great game. Both quarterbacks were on fire. Both quarterbacks were on the Carolina Panthers just a few years ago.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, both wide receivers were on Ohio State. Yeah. In Jigba and Egg Buka.

SPEAKER_02:

Those guys are insane.

SPEAKER_01:

They're both from both from Washington. For the Bucs, man, he is incredible.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that's your rookie of the year right there offensively. Yeah, right now. Um, and then the Bucs were short-handed. You gotta you gotta tip your hat to the Bucks offense. Baker Mayfield is playing lights out. And I'm telling you what, Sam Darnold was playing really good. He threw, they scored like five straight touchdowns. Yeah, and they looked in sync. He looked like on in rhythm, making great throws, great decisions. And then there was an interception, and it and it was kind of a it hit off the helmet, and he was trying to throw it down, so it was kind of the bright play. Right. It was that's what happens. He seen as he throws, he's trying to throw it, and he's that's what happens and he stays up because that was the difference. Otherwise, they probably go down and kick a field goal.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I don't think it is. That was like on a first down. I mean, the Bucks hadn't stopped them all.

SPEAKER_02:

No, so both quarterbacks really played well. I mean, the both retreads. Yeah, I think you can find guys that are in the league that can still play that aren't playing right now, right? That you should give shots to.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, the Bengals owner isn't doing it, man. No, he's not he's not giving any money to anybody. Yeah, the guy sucks. Yeah, he does, and you don't want to go play for the Bengals. Right. That's why I think Burrow is just like, you know what? I'm gonna just hurt my toe here in week one. This team's gonna suck. I want Alfred.

SPEAKER_02:

Mac Jones, man, he looks good. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean he did look good. He was like with playing with nobody. I'm gonna tell you right now, if I'm Matt Stafford, I'm trying to Rams are good. I'm trying to fight Sean McVay after that game.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that was a terrible call.

SPEAKER_01:

I just threw one of the best throws of my 40-year career across my body from the opposite hash to get down in the room. Yeah, and you're running into the line.

SPEAKER_02:

Right. Uh, and but Sean McVeigh owns it, and that's why he even when he sucks, he's like, man, I suck. And I I'm gonna like so like it's hard to get mad at him. Yeah, that's why he's a good coach.

SPEAKER_01:

You're sitting at first place in the division with yeah, that that was such a team impressive win.

SPEAKER_02:

Mac Jones was on fire. I mean, he was getting rid of the ball, just leading his team. They're better with Mac Jones. Yeah, that's right. I said it.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. This season, yeah, without question.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, you play paid Brock Purdy, and now you got the guy that you should have drafted all along when you drafted Trey Lance.

SPEAKER_01:

It's exactly how John Lynch's entire career as a GM has gone. It just somehow works out. None of the guys he drafts any sense, right?

SPEAKER_02:

But they still win.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. Because the people that do the work, the scouts that get the you know, the rounds three through seven picks, they know what they're doing. Right. No Pearsall, no Pearson, no Jennings. No Jennings, no, no kiddle, no kiddle. No run game to speak of. Dude, the offensive line is horrible. And he's just getting it getting the ball out.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. On time, very impressed by that game. That started it out.

SPEAKER_01:

We'll say Kendrick Bourne, the wide receiver, just stepped up and had the best game he's ever gonna have in his life.

SPEAKER_02:

Right.

SPEAKER_01:

And that's that was that was another huge part of it.

SPEAKER_02:

Clutch. And then Drake May, man. Drake Drake May, yep. I told I said that. Uh the Bills look like they were Bills and the Eagles look like they they were just waiting to lose. They they both look like they should have lost. Well, the Bills' defense sucks. Well, they got Mike Brabell now. Yeah. And Mike Brabels, you know he's gonna get guys that are tough. Yeah. And you gotta play hard. And you knew that right going in, it's just like, oh, the Patriots are gonna be a tougher out. Yeah, they're just gonna be tougher because he's a tough guy. And it really makes you think that man, Bill Belichick. Dude, did you just like when how bad was he? How much did he ever do? He's a cheater. Biggest fraud in the history of this. He's a fraud. I mean, he was on the back. He wanted to get rid of Brady. Right.

SPEAKER_01:

Kraft openly admits now, and I I hate Kraft. He's a piece of shit, but he openly admits that he backed the wrong guy, which is obvious. It's like, dude, I should have just sided with Tom.

SPEAKER_02:

Heck yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

I said, Bill, you gotta get out of here.

SPEAKER_02:

Should take a walk, buddy.

SPEAKER_01:

Vrabel coaching with Brady?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. I mean, they three more Super Bowls. I was just I was just thinking that. I was like, how is it it's not Belichick because you could have put Vrabel in his spot and they would have been just fine. Yeah. In fact, he would probably skipped a beat. He would have left Brady alone. Yeah. Maybe just in fact helped him.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean, he's dude, you yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that's it. And then see what he's doing now in North Carolina.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, it's just it's already, it's already to the point where they they they want him out. Really? The administration, every like school wide, they cannot stand him or Lombardi. And it just the little little tidbit on that, they had banned the the UNC football program from tweeting out anything Patriots related. There was a uh you know, a program-wide mandate. So there was nothing coming out of the UNC football program about Drake May's win last night. Any of it's not right, right. And so when Pablo Torre, like when he reports on that early this morning, there's a meeting called. And so it's now coming from from the president, from from the president of the university, they've now started tweeting out about Drake May. This is the kind of shit that that is you know that's going on that kind of disconnect. Right. And it it it just goes to show you, like, and you know, I I sent you that that anonymous quote from the G5 coach that couldn't believe they're getting beat out by North Carolina for kids. Like, why why are they, you know? He doesn't understand where he is in terms of the landscape of college football. Like thinking that you can go and just find kids. Well, he was never good at recruiting.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean he's good at finding he was only the only thing I can maybe give he's good at finding deals in the NFL based on maybe like good pros that had bad personal situations that you could get on a budget. Right. Like Randy Moss.

SPEAKER_01:

Schematically obvious shit. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. And he's good at knowing the rule book and how to skirt the rules and what to do to gain in a competitive advantage. That shit doesn't work in college, man. You're not dealing with professionals that have been the best of the best, and this is their career and their livelihood. You're dealing with kids that man, I yeah, I play ball, but I kind of ooh, Clemson needed that game. Yeah. Yeah, that was a get right game for Dabbo. I still don't think they're any good, but whatever.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, so the Patriots, they're they're they're for real. I mean, who isn't? Seems like everybody's for real. The Saints Well the Ravens suck. Ravens are are god-awful. Yeah. Who would have thought my Super Bowl pick, which is terrible, in the AFC, which was a lot of a lot of people's Super Bowl pick.

SPEAKER_01:

There's some shit in the locker room and and between the coaches and players and things like that that is that's going on. And I think it'll start to come out more and more as it becomes obvious that the season is already.

SPEAKER_02:

John Harbaugh, all of a sudden, a guy you wouldn't ever put on the hot seat. Uh you gotta put him on the hot seat.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, you're the head coach. Right. That was that was terrible.

SPEAKER_01:

You're the head coach, you hired the defensive coordinator, you're standing behind that hire in the defensive coordinator. Ooh, that was bad. They may have the worst defense in in the NFL.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, they do. There's no maybe. And it's they're like you're getting 45 if you're playing the Ravens. Yeah. That's not no, that's an average. That's insane. Yeah, it it's now they had a lot of guys hurt, but man, they could have had Lamar at full strength, they would have lost by 20. Right. I mean, they they they started the season off giving up 47 points. Yikes. Yikes. And then the Bengals suck. They they got nothing without Burrow.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, nothing without I I don't know how good they would have been even with them.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, because their defense sucks. Yeah. So Steelers, it's their division. Yeah. Yeah, I mean. The Browns are going with a rookie now. Right, and they looked better than but still, he's a stopgap. He's not dude, it's the Steelers division to lose. Yeah. With Aaron Rodgers, one one last shot. Um the Chargers, what the hell? They're they're back to being just got their ass kicked.

SPEAKER_01:

You saw the knock on Justin Herbert. Yeah. He's got everything that a good, great quarterback needs to have.

SPEAKER_02:

I've never seen more love given to somebody who's done less. Right. But he does look good and he is tough.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, he has his great moments. Right. But, you know, like and when adversity hits, he just folds. He turns into a pumpkin. Because they they go her up 10-0, 27-10 was the final. Right. 10-0, and then you make a great pad, and then your receiver fumbles. I say, okay, and then then Washington gets on the board. It's like, all right, well, we got to keep generating it.

SPEAKER_02:

Just thought that they would I was expecting uh them to like battle back. Kind of like they did. Yeah, that they've that's two in a row now for them. Um Jaden Daniel back on the Commanders. The Commanders defense look good.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, they're commanders look like a real good team.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, they'll be in it. Um and the Eagles up 17-3 at home. And they've and but they finally came back to bite them.

SPEAKER_01:

They should have been feeding Barkley the ball. They've been screwing around all year. Yeah. It's like, dude, that's you're up 17-3 at home. Good defense. You gotta ride your horse. Give the ball to Barkley.

SPEAKER_02:

Broncos were able to come in there and get the big win. Um you got the Chiefs. They'll be playing tonight in Jacksonville. That looks like a really fun matchup. I mean, you'll be able to because you're gonna get a good Chiefs effort tonight. Yeah. Jacksonville, they're for real. Win this game. Yeah. Win this game. You're at home. You got$55 million quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. You're going up against a good defense. Win the game. Let's see that uh win the game.

SPEAKER_01:

Let's see that game-changing draft pick. That revolutionary player that you traded your entire draft with.

SPEAKER_02:

This is a game he's supposed to win. This is a game that they need to win. But they won't. They won't. No, they won't. Uh yeah. And then that's it. That's it, man. Oh, is it right here? Yeah. It's here.

SPEAKER_03:

We had to go. Our ride is here. We gotta show you. The Yankees done.

SPEAKER_02:

Now they're down 2-0. 2-0 to the Blue Jays. There we go. Ooh, Blue Jays are just knocking the cover off the ball. They got Vlad Jr., man. Yeah, man. Getting grand slimmies.

SPEAKER_01:

I wonder if he showed up to his uh scouting camp barefoot, like his dad did.

SPEAKER_02:

He looked like he did some work in the office last year. He looks a little in better shape. But yeah, his dad was a freak, bro.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, you heard the story, or he was wearing like two different kinds of shoes, and he showed up, and everybody's like, who the hell is this guy? And he's hitting 500-foot bombs. Bouncing balls.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. The Mariners tied the series. Nice. So that's tied at one. Blue Jays up 2-0. The National League will take. We'll get back underway tonight. They had a day off. So you got the Cubs down 1-0 to the Brewers and then the Phillies down 1-0 to the Dodgers. In Philly, it was a rough 24 hours. You're up 3-0 on the Dodgers. Yes. 17-3 on the on the Broncos. End up losing both those games. I'm not sad at all. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of fans. But gonna lick the wounds. 20 and 22. Oof.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, it's rough. The only thing about college football this year is like there's no need for a 12-team playoff. There's like three good teams. Right. There's gonna be some bad teams in there. Yeah, really bad. It just. That conference is just such a pile of bullshit.

SPEAKER_02:

It really is. It lobbyists. Yeah, it's all it is. It's lobbying. It's all a bunch of lobbying.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, how can we get Oklahoma and look at it? He saw Vanderbilt lost.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Oh man. I mean, Alabama's shit. Fuck ever. Well, Lord State needs to tune it all out.

SPEAKER_01:

George's gotta be good. They beat the shit out of Kentucky.

SPEAKER_02:

Tune it all out and focus in on this new game. Everything's riding on it. That's how they gotta put it. They need to get this ACC win. They need to get the ball rolling on the rest of the year. Yeah. And start it off on a positive note with this win before they go on the road. Right. We'll watch them and we'll react to them. And we'll talk to you next time. Right here on the North Florida Sports Network.

SPEAKER_03:

You understand that? You gotta give us a shot. You know what?
