Why Florida State Keeps Losing and What Must Change to Win Again
Let me ask you one question The North Florida sporting North Florida sport north floor the north floor is sporting sport on network The North Florida sporting networks Hey it is just another football Monday Another sad Monday another sad football Monday they're all seemed to be the same these last two years as FSU goes to 0 3 man we still had week one though didn't we? Yeah we did wow just keep replaying it it was great uh ready James Franklin is out at Penn State he's rich feel rich like 50 million man yeah 49.8 good god what a he's my hero$20,000 a day don't feel bad at all man no I think you once you lose to uh Oregon you're like you know what watch this right like this is ridiculous I'm not doing this I'm not gonna sit here and try yeah because they lost to Northwestern and UCLA now Bellers out for the year you know what after watching UCLA this past weekend kick the shit out of Michigan State I just gotta look at it and be like man maybe it's just bad timing maybe they they played UCLA a week too late I mean like Clemson's getting in together wait till Florida State travels up there that'll be Dabulous Swan song right there that's gonna be it's gonna be telling everybody buy stock in Clemson football dude oh yeah oh yeah oh god what the hell man we're gonna have to go over what what the hell is the plan out of this if I don't think Florida State can afford what Penn State did and I think that's just well no I mean they owe them$10 million more yeah yeah they owe them more and they have less money yep they're not in a contract with the Big Ten they're not they're not getting Big Ten NBC CBS all kinds of net they got every network on the payroll right the SPN's not giving them any money say what the So it's different it's different and uh it's you're stuck also notable is Penn State just signed a huge huge deal with Adidas to be their their new uniform outfitters well we know how Adidas grows right now they're denying that they're gonna help pay any of the buyout but yeah right come on right bro like the shoot like Adidas and Nike and this is all what this has come down to the recruiting is now a war of corporate ties yeah and where are you line up against and I hear Jordan Travis saying well FSU needs to back up the Brinks truck and pay these recruits and it's like well okay well where's the where's that coming from right well we don't have is Nike gonna back it up here no because they're gonna pay Oregon well we're we're backing up the Brinks truck to to pay the guy that still wouldn't be able to get the recruits. Yeah Jordan right that that's the reality of it I mean I I totally get him backing his guy and but it it's just not happening and you gotta look you you I just don't see a way out of it. 36 and 30 is his overall record I mean he's lost he hasn't won an ACC game since September of 2024 against Cal in a game that he shouldn't have won.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah that that's his one win.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah and you look at last year it's offense this year it looks like it's defense.
SPEAKER_02:Even Cal has managed to put a team together that can win ACC games.
SPEAKER_01:Right um so it's just mind boggling. Right everything about it it's mind boggling how can you because you know I was watching look at Indiana did you know just went up to Oregon and won and it's like what the hell is this guy doing in Indiana?
SPEAKER_02:Well yeah what is he doing? Well he's yeah yeah he's coaching he's coaching he's coaching he's been around big time he's been around he's been around this is a guy that was the the recruiting coordinator and and quarterback's coach for Phillip Rivers at NC State for Chuck Amato I mean the experience of of everything it takes to be a big time football program is something you have to learn as you're coming up as an assistant coach. Right.
SPEAKER_01:A guy that came up under Todd Graham at Pittset the ear the wire headset coach air traffic controller yeah oh my you're right man I was just gonna say I mean this guy Kignetti or Signetti he's there and he just tells you what how he's doing it too it's just hard work and I and what's Norvell doing I mean I I know he's working hard but what's he he's not his the substance is lacking. Maybe it's just more just rah-rah crap.
SPEAKER_02:I think that I think that's that's all there is is just hard work. You know you you go back what what Lovett said when you were interviewing him a few years ago the work never changes what they were doing never changes. So you you kind of break that down it's like well he he's not gonna change anything he's not gonna out scheme and body change though. Right. You have to relate to your players you can't have less talent and think that you can just do the same thing and get the same results. Right. It's it's big picture kind of thing.
SPEAKER_01:What's the plan each week? Like what's what's it going to take to convince these players to have that mindset and I I think I was one of the things that struck me when I was listening to him after the Oregon game was him saying he had a really good feeling just on he said you never know how it's gonna play out until the game happens which is true but once it started he knew his players had the confidence they knew exactly what they were going to do. They weren't going to get they were in a lot of that stuff you hear Mike Norwell saying you got to keep an even keel and right it was there for the Alabama game right but it's not been there since where do you find that each week yeah is that that's the problem here.
SPEAKER_02:It is I think the the biggest most immediate problem that's gonna be the reason why you lose games this year is that you have a defensive scheme that requires players to do things that none of the players on your roster can do. Yeah and for me as a head coach like you got to be aware of what you have and what you're bringing in. And and you know I don't even like I Willie Taggart was full of shit in everything that he said. But one thing he did say when when people would ask him about you know what what's your staff going to look like is it you know it's about finding guys that fit our personnel and being able to run now he didn't right manage to achieve that with his hiring but like this kind of what we're talking about with Tony White.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_02:When you have a scheme that is reliant on linebackers being able to do multiple things yeah you know drop into zone coverage being able to to play to spy a QB and know when to attack and when to just stay home like it dude watching the all 22 of that game on Saturday was sad. They're clueless. Yeah that's why you have the middle of the field open all the time because the linebackers are not doing anything that they're supposed to be doing. The defensive line can't set an edge because you don't have edge setters on the defensive line. You don't have the personnel to run a three man front so yeah that you know I I would love to blame it all on Tony White and dude you got to figure out a way to do it but this is a guy who's run the same scheme everywhere he's been yeah so but that's what he was brought in here to do. Right. But if you're Mike Norvell is like why exactly am I gonna bring a guy in that needs players I don't have right to be successful.
SPEAKER_01:Because I'll tell you it seems like with even last year's defense with this year's offense.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah oh without question without question dude you could have kept Adam Fuller right and kept the guys that you have and and let him get another year with the same personnel and and all that and you probably are not sitting any worse than four and two. Like you may not beat Alabama because they know what defense you're gonna run.
SPEAKER_01:They might have the element of surprise got you that win but it's got you also behind the eight bar the secrets out.
SPEAKER_02:The secrets out they know every team we play players right every team we play is going to put the running backs against the linebackers in the passing game and that's going to be mismatch city every single time any team with a mobile quarterback is going to manage to you know as soon as I see man coverage as soon as I see everybody bailing out I'm taking off for 15 20 yards a chunk and it again it comes down to if we can score every time we get the ball I mean there was we might be able to win.
SPEAKER_01:I mean there was a play where the guy we haven't backed up and was it Blake Nicholson yeah just runs right like that's not your that's just not that's not a bad call no it's actually the right call right call you got a linebacker there spying the quarterback keeping him in the pocket for some reason. So why bring in that defense when you have when you should know as a coach that your guys can't execute it.
SPEAKER_02:Right and and also like what's going on with the linebackers like why is a guy Nicholson who's been in a he should have waited back you don't need to rush that line you're right you stay at that line of scrimmage and you and you follow him up because you're the only man out here in this space.
SPEAKER_01:And he ran in and got trapped because yeah the quarterback's running to his right there's that's three defensive linemen to his right he's not running that way if he does he's getting three yards so all right so that that has me thinking all right obviously you needed something you have to you have to stay the course now that's the that's the sad part you gotta have to fight through it. Yeah can't afford to hire someone else now in terms of this guy I think you're right I think this is what you get now but what you get is a hope of maybe he can piece it together one of these years and that's what you're dreaming for is another 2023.
SPEAKER_02:And it's just gonna be surrounded by a bunch of crap and a bunch of frustrating things but well unfortunately that's what you got to have to play to I mean I don't know I'm just trying to I think the the theory that's been out there on the internet the last 18 hours of how you approach 2026 is is probably pretty on the head is that you know this recruiting class this high school class you it doesn't matter you know they're gonna go all in on the portal. You have to it's like once you did that you have to live and die by it.
SPEAKER_01:Right because you got a much tougher schedule um you're it's your only chance of survival is going eight and four nine and three next year and you know you're not gonna do that basic high school right you're you're always playing catch up and that's what you pretty much have to do and to get better in that in that type of system you're gonna have to not only you're gonna have to keep paying and you're gonna have to keep ponying up and out outbid these schools because you're gonna you're going to have to get the players that Ohio State wants you're gonna have to get the players that Miami wants. Well you're gonna you're gonna have to overpay this year. You're gonna have to overpay. You're gonna have to be the one going out there and say that top whatever change regardless of who you get no at coach.
SPEAKER_02:No long term no like it you know you go in all out in the portal next year to go into 2026 you're right back in the same boat 2027 that you were last year. But you want them gone yeah because you think that there's a somebody better that can get play just get the baseline of players the talent level higher is is that why or I think there's there are people out there like I honestly the next coach I don't give a shit what he does X's and O's or like I just want somebody that re can recruit top notch talent at the high school level and that's what you got to do.
SPEAKER_01:Be able to consistently do it. And that's how you win well it's how you you know what Mike Norvell does is not sustainable long term. Right. I believe like the fact that Clemson wasn't doing the transfer portal thing everyone's like whoa look what but what they were doing was still recruiting. Right.
SPEAKER_02:What they needed to do was add like a lot is made a lot is made about the transfer portal Miami did what Clemson wasn't doing was competing in the NIL. Right. So in high school and you look now their high school recruiting has fallen off significantly you know like they were never up there at always number one or number two but they were in the top 10 they were getting tons of defensive linemen which is really important. They managed to get two generational quarterbacks back to back that's also a huge help but you know you you you got to pay these kids right and if you're gonna pay portal players you got to be prepared to do it every year and you're gonna have to be the one overpaying every year.
SPEAKER_01:You can't think you can switch it up you know middle of the road because then you get stuck so is there a is there a coach out there that with this landscape with the giant down in Miami with the I know NIL that they have with the you know who's gonna come and get players to leave down there and come here for less money.
SPEAKER_02:Well it it you know there's there's I I shit I don't know those days are done man right it's as much about being able to identify talent that's another thing is yeah you're gonna have to find those guys you're gonna have to do it the hard way there are a sizable number of misses under Mike Norvell from the high school ranks.
SPEAKER_01:Yep you know you look at Hakeem Williams who was you know great you signed a five star wide receiver but yeah Hakeem Williams was a five star and then Tony from Miami was three star. Boom there you go right like that doesn't mean anything you have to be able to you have to be able to I get to be able to tell the difference in those guys that's what you're paid for. Yeah that's what we haven't seen at all back when Mike hasn't done that at all. It doesn't happen. Every big recruit he's got hasn't done crap on the field. Right. Nothing there's been nothing you know you you paid a lot of money for a kid like Charles Lester and he's made zero impact the best out of all the kids Norvell has coached or has recruited from the high school ranks who has you got one success your one success story is is Az Thomas who got drafted.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah that that's your one guy he got he got good that's your one guy and and you got him because the other three schools dropped the ball you know they fired what's his face at Florida Dan Mullen you know there was a coaching change at LSU Brent Venables went to Oklahoma. So all of a sudden he's got well this is the only kind of stable place so let me go there. Yeah but that's it and you what like arguably the best player on offense right now is Danzi kid that just is true freshman.
SPEAKER_01:Yep you got lucky because he's a local kid well I was just gonna say you got you got Danzi I mean you got chroma right you overpaid for chroma that's what you're gonna have to do. Right. You're gonna have to keep doing that you're gonna have I like the DeSur guy the the twins those are your I mean you have to just almost double down thank Gus for those guys. It's gonna yeah well I need Gus to stay for another year recruiting. Yeah I mean we're gonna we got to double down on that and we're gonna have to hopefully get some guys to fit the system of Tony White and just try better. Yeah and hopefully and hopefully just cut we go on a streak end it similar to 2022 you know you have to just you know galvanize the locker room stay together I don't care what it takes when you got a you got a winnable game the next two should be winnable I don't know if I don't I don't know if I'd call Wake Forest winnable. Right you're not gonna do it because you got to go to two Clemson you got to go to Florida you got to go to NC State. Right. There's nothing that says this team's gonna be able to stop any of those teams.
SPEAKER_02:No there's there I mean this is your last on paper a winnable game.
SPEAKER_01:Right. So um I still say you got to make a bowl otherwise I want them out. But so we'll see if the six win dream yeah well Indiana beat Oregon that was the biggest win they're number three now um Ohio State has the defense this year. It's almost like last year was offense this year it's defense. This year it's defense. I mean just look at the NFL I mean look at the receivers the best receivers in the NFL are like the rookies out of Ohio State all of them that that's a that's a guy I would I don't think that Florida State could ever entice to leave Ohio State but I mean if you want somebody that's just going to be able to identify talent that has experienced recruiting heart line yeah yeah in the state of Florida but again I I doubt he's leaving Ohio State anytime soon. Oh they're pay yeah they do everything you want as a coach right like they support you fully they have all the money you need making two million dollars as an offensive coordinator there's no reason to leave if he ever wanted to leave it would be for something ego where he like maybe at the NFL level or if he wanted to get a a head coaching job he just waits till Ryan doesn't want to be a head coach. He's not leaving he ain't leaving nowhere this is the best job you can get in terms of under the radar none of the pressure I mean this is kind of what Mel Zahn signed up for. It's like I'm done with all this crap. I want to go back to just call him ball plays. Yeah call him calling plays I don't I mean to deal with any of the head coach bullshit I mean the offense didn't do crap after the second half though. No they didn't I mean you know but they were they're out all they don't have 31 points 31 points has got to be enough to win you a game. Yeah it does no exactly I mean it seems like this year's team is going to be suffering from the defense as opposed last year's team suffered from the offense. Right. Hopefully it won't be as bad. I mean it won't be because you already got the win against Alabama and you already got three wins you're technically better than last year.
SPEAKER_02:But that means it's already just all downhill from here then yeah man and you're still better from that listen you you go out this next weekend and lose in Palo Alto and it's over you got a bye week and then you got Wake you lose at Palo Alto you end up dropping a home game to Wake I it would not shock me to see the money all of a sudden appear.
SPEAKER_01:Like whether you got a cash in that TV money that you know the new revenue share shit like you at some point so what happens then who's on your short list if you had your way and you were the AD and you fired Mike who's on the list I'm I'm going out looking at the best recruiters in the country and I'm seeing you know I'm going up to the club I'm I'm taking a shot at Heartline.
SPEAKER_02:I'm taking a shot at the defensive coordinator at Georgia. I'm going anywhere that has a connection to the South I mean John Sumerall at Tulane George Syracuse hey see what he wants I just want good players back in the program. You know I'm I'm tired of half of the recruiting class being kids you can write off before they even step on campus.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah too many self-motivational like stories to all come together to be good. You actually we need to have guys that are just actually really good and maybe not don't like football.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah I don't give a sheriff just somebody somebody that can identify talent man you know when it when Jimbo is here with Eddie Grand before Stoops left and before 2013 the the guy building that roster Jimbo and Eddie like there was a thing called the Jimbo three star a guy like Xavier Rhodes three star walks in from day one making an impact like three star Devontae Freeman unranked until he plays in a state title it was clear I mean that you had but even but the guys that were the big time players oh yeah they were good.
SPEAKER_01:They're good Marcus Joyner Jameis Winston they didn't like fluff out they they lived up to their potential if not went exceeded it. So what were you you haven't seen any of that in this in this regime no that's that's the most alarming part they they had changed a little bit so you had you can't really compare it like just apples to oranges but to not have any not to just to be like you just named like three guys easy. Yeah and you're like when you start naming it's been six years yeah to name one one two one guy that you named one yeah and it was off a team that went two and ten after he got dragged so I mean I I think it's everything is fair.
SPEAKER_02:He's making this is this is the kind of money you know this is what happens you back the guy God almost wish Alabama went and just got him yeah I mean I still I mean I asked myself that a lot then like it had he left and gone to Alabama would we be any worse off I mean the bet right what you have to do is you gotta try to you gotta try to support him and you gotta there's you can't get out of it. Well I I think he'll get another year. I mean I maybe not but you know and I think they'll do what everybody's expecting them to do is just Right yeah they'll probably beat they need to they have to beat Stanford and they have to beat Wake and they have to beat Virginia Tech.
SPEAKER_01:There's your six wins yeah that's it that's it right there. That's it. If you lose any more I'm done yeah and it's gonna be every show is going to be fire fire fire fire fire right if you lose one of these last two home games there's there's really no reason to exactly you should fire him right there. Yeah and and I like and I like the coach I think he is a hard worker I think he works his tail off I I I think he's definitely better than the previous coach. I don't think that's debatable. I think he won at Memphis that's dude we could go to high schools and find the guy better than the previous coach. Right right that's not debatable that needed to happen Mike Norvell needed to get brought in at the time I'm not saying it was a bad hire it was probably the right hire.
SPEAKER_02:Right I think the ultimate failure from Mike Norvell was not being able to sell a 19 game winning streak to kids in high school and have better players in that time span.
SPEAKER_01:And that's part of getting screwed no you got screwed after your 19 game winning streak right here's what you get you don't get to go to the playoff and get advertised free marketing for a month you get to go get beat by Georgia who's pissed too and get lose by 60 points.
SPEAKER_02:Right but that was that's four weeks after early signing day I know I know yeah yeah that's true though you're right he wasn't able to pull that season you can't capitalize on on going 13 and oh and and having everybody on that team that's getting looked at by the NFL and you can't get into the top the quarterbacks you're bringing in we saw the big his big quarterback recruit was it Cromanhoe probably yeah yeah the the best thing he's done at quarterback recruited is having a commitment from Luke Altmeyer at one time and now Altmire's doing great at Illinois and he didn't even sign him. Yeah that's the only positive you can point to at that position in terms of the high school and that's the most important position in in the game. CL Kirby is no shame.
SPEAKER_01:Oh dude he's such a sack of shit he's no shame but he has no problem getting players no course not his integrity is like they don't give a shit about integrity.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah they want to win and they want people hounding them you have got to be relentless yeah you have got to stay in the forefront of these kids' mind to the point of where like old player Nile Lawrence Staple said about Eddie Grant he's the best recruiter of all time every three days this guy was at my house it's like dude coach you were just here a couple days ago I'm five minutes down the road I'll be there in a second is like you have got to let the kids know like we need you. You're gonna make every coach in this room so happy if you sign here.
SPEAKER_01:And you might not get all he's got that yeah of course he's got that crazy I was clapping no I was clapping because I was saying they were clapping and he gets exactly what he needs the whole time oh yeah yeah you even got Sean McDonough just sitting there he was calling timeout.
SPEAKER_02:McDonough I love Sean McDonough he's the best but it it it got it got what he needed yeah oh that was funny.
SPEAKER_01:Georgia beat Auburn 2010 probably shouldn't have yeah they shouldn't that change that wasn't a fumble dude he broke the plane anyway yeah anyway but uh what else we got in Alabama survived Alabama survived they they look like that's another guy I would be Alabama versus Miami the national championship probably Carson Beck and uh Simpson two finalists for the Heisman yeah yeah it's yeah yeah although I mean I would be fine if it went to somebody who wasn't a quarterback yeah I mean if Indiana goes unbeaten that's that's the guy I'm giving the Heisman to me if they keep they just beat Oregon so they did what you did and that do they have to play Ohio State? Alright well there it is. If they can do that which they won't I mean no they won't um but you you can lose once and still right they validated I think making the playoff last year even though it pissed off a lot of people they deserved it too well they had a they had a really shitty schedule last year and everybody expected them to Well they're better this year.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah they expected like oh watch they'll play a good team and give me like nah they played a good team and won on the road arguably the hardest place to go on the road yeah best one of the year they have with the best resume.
SPEAKER_01:Yep best one of the year at the playoff rankings were out they should be ranked they've won three straight road games they went up to Illinois one they should be ranked one.
SPEAKER_02:Oh wait did they play Illinois at home?
SPEAKER_01:But the way they beat them they beat him like 50 to zero and then go on the road to Iowa win at Iowa Iowa Iowa actually should have beat them. Right but it was a tough game and Iowa and then come back the next week and go up to Eugene and beat Oregon and that was a trap game the Iowa game yeah and they they survived it they should be number one. But Miami's I mean Miami and Ohio State I think have the they're the best rosters in terms of draft yeah and that's why they're getting GMs you know if you had but man Indiana's if you don't have a dog in the fight you can feel like there's this I'm rooting for him. They haven't been good in it's just like what's fun to see a coach with the com with the swag you know and it's he's right he's doing his job right and I think it's the experience that he's had he's like you know what I'm gonna do it this way this time.
SPEAKER_02:Right and I there's a good chance that he stays there until he's done with it yeah exactly I mean he's he's in his 60s already why would he why would he exact I I think he the perspective now what he's not gonna leave that.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah because that's something a young man would do.
SPEAKER_02:Exactly like why no dude I've I spent years at James Madison yeah like no I'm in the big ticket I came here I got my path to the playoffs and this is gonna be me.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah this is gonna be because of me this is going to be my legacy. Yep and like a lot when you're young you don't really think about those kind of things you kind of just like whoa they just come at Jimmy Sexton's telling you what to do the money.
SPEAKER_02:Like oh I gotta go take this Penn State job and because it's Penn State Penn State's gonna offer him the Brinks truck.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah you know that's happening. They're gonna offer him the most money they that's who they're going for.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah they'll go for him I think they'll probably kick the tires on Matt Rule just because he's an alum played there. Yeah um wouldn't shock me to see both of those guys turn it down. Yeah you know it's too much pressure. Yeah and there's there's still some stink on that program man like you you know on what?
SPEAKER_01:I couldn't see what yeah for well Franklin I you know he he is who he is yeah he builds it up right and he builds it up and he but he never could win against a good team and now he wasn't winning against the teams and it was they knew it's like bro if you can't win it you always beat the teams you're supposed to beat. Yeah once you start losing that he's done and that's it he's a victim of his own personality.
SPEAKER_02:He did a lot of complaining about support um financial stuff oh wow before he signed his they didn't
SPEAKER_01:Not I mean he has the record and the winning. Yeah, he's just to be to get fired, kind of how quickly he was, right? They were waiting.
SPEAKER_02:Right. It it's worn thin. People are tired of him. I mean, you got the fans chanting fire Franklin at home games. Wow. Like that's so funny once it gets to that point, it very rarely ever rebounds. Two weeks is you're done. Yeah. Well, they were waiting for it. Oh, I know. The fans expect it.
SPEAKER_01:To say that you your team is ranked number two, though, with the same guy. Yeah. And you play this game. But they they were expecting it. Oh, I know, I know. And so was I. Yeah. I think everybody was.
SPEAKER_02:We'll see. We'll give him this, we'll give him this Oregon game. And if he if he can't get it done, then it's Well then it's like, well, we can't.
SPEAKER_01:Well once he lost again, that was it. Oh, yeah, it was the clincher. I think he was done at the end of the season, once he lost the Oregon game. I think because they expected, hey, he's gonna still go 10 and 2. We can't fire him in the middle of the year. Right. We'll have to wait and make it a macro kind of thing.
SPEAKER_02:But once he lost those two games, if he had made the playoffs again, he probably sticks around, keeps going through the motions.
SPEAKER_01:But losing to UCLA. I think you yeah, you lose to the big guys again and beat everybody else. I think he was gone at the end of the year. Yeah. The fact that he lost to the little guys, they were like, well, we just gotta do it now. You gotta do it now. All right. Well, uh NFL, uh Niners, Bucks, Baker Mayfields, your MVP, I think. So I don't even think it's close at this point. He's just balling out, man. Yeah. He's he's got a rifle cannon, and but he's also got poise under pressure. I mean, he looks like Lamar back there, the way he's getting away from the fast as Lamar, but he's he knows his pocket presence is good and his arm strength is better than Lamar's.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:He's got a cannon, he's playing, he looks like he's playing Oklahoma football. Yeah. In some of those games. Uh, if he doesn't turn the ball over, which he's not doing, he's he's he's just playing. It's fun to watch, and I hate the Bucs. Yeah, they're they're really good. I really like Baker. It's hard not to respect the guy. He's a he's if you're you can see why teammates love him. Yeah, I mean that's what you want playing quarterback. That's what you want playing quarterback. If you're a Bucks fan, it's hard not to root for him. I mean, you had Tom Brady, right? Yeah, and I and I like and I get, you know, but this guy's more way more fun to root for than Brady.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, without question. Like when you're rooting for the Bucks are fun. If you're rooting for Brady as a Bucks fan, you still feel kind of dirty. Like, uh like I guess I gotta like him, and he's great. He won a Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_01:The Dolphins played good, but they lost at the end to Dicker, the kicker. Yeah. Um got that pick. Yep. Hey, they covered. Yeah, they did. Um, but that's just a matter of time. I'm gonna tell you what the worst game of the entire weekend was Denver and New York. Oh my god, I'm glad I had to work that morning. Oh my god. 11 was that the 13 to 13. 13 to 11.
SPEAKER_02:I don't know what the hell Sean Payton was.
SPEAKER_01:If you look at the stats for Fields, if you count the sacks, he had negative 10 yards passing. He's awful. This is a guy they gave money to. Right. This is another guy. This is what I'm talking about. Like, these guys are getting contracts, but yet Jameis gets one year four million. Yeah. Well, he's younger. Yeah. And then and and I will say, like, I've never seen the like a potential like go up and down on one guy, like from game to game. With Justin Fields. Oh my god. Like, you want like watch the first game of the year against Pittsburgh. Right. He's like, damn. Yeah, it's this guy. It is mental. But then you're like, watch last week. I mean, it is uh it is no consistency.
SPEAKER_02:No, dude, I I'd say probably seven of the nine sacks are his fault. Yeah. Just I'm like, man, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:It was bad. Yeah. Rams look good. Rams' defense is good uh because the offense, the the Ravens responded. The defense responded. Yeah, they gave up the most points. It was good. But then Harbaugh, you're tied, right? It's three to three. Yeah. Right? You gotta take the points. Go win the half with a lead. He's an idiot. Your team needs anything. He's an idiot. And he goes for it when there's like three yards to get. With Cooper Rush. Yeah. Like if it's Lamar and Lamar's yelling at you, okay, I I'll understand that better because that's the captain of your team and he can run it in, maybe. But like you chose to go for it with Cooper Rush when you could have taken the lead into half. So I don't think it's a good thing. It's not like this is uh like the first drive, we can't settle for fear goals. I I that pisses me off. Just go for it crap. Take the points. You're going into the defensive line of the Rams. Take the points. That's the strength of that defense. And well, not only that, respect what your defense has been doing. Yeah. Which is holding the Rams up. Then they they turn it over, the Rams score off both turnovers because other than that, the Ravens defense played well enough to win.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, I mean, you hold the Rams to 17 points.
SPEAKER_01:The Rams are good, the NFC West is good, the Seahawks, you know, the Jags, the Jags, they showed you who they are. If they don't get turnovers, they're not beating you. Let me tell you something, man. They're they're they're they're turnover reliant, and that's what they get in all their wins. Yeah. Uh Trevor Lawrence, if you've been watching him all year, is not consistent. No, he is not going to win you games. No. He's not.
SPEAKER_02:No. I'm going to tell you something right now. Watching a Jags game is so goddamn annoying because of the amount of time they spend talking about Travis Hunter.
SPEAKER_01:Well, they have to.
SPEAKER_02:You're talking about a guy that's a good thing. Who costs his team because he lined up offsides? Yeah. Cost 16 receiving yards in the game. No passes defended, one tackle, and Mark Scareth is out there calling this dude the future of the NFL football.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. This shit is insane. It's just all like a so predetermined soap opera, some of it. You know? He's not even their best rookie.
SPEAKER_02:You know, that kid Tootin from Virginia Tech. He he at least makes an impact.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Whatever.
SPEAKER_01:They're foreign to um AFC South doesn't look too bad after all, though, because the Colts are five and one.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:They survived uh Arizona in a valiant effort from Jacoby Brissett. There you go. Who looks I mean I'd I'd rather play him than than Kyler Murray. I've always been a fan of Jacoby. I mean, he's always been capable. I remember seeing that game we saw when we saw at NC State, him and Jameis. Yeah. He's a big dude. He's steady. He'll have a job, but like he could be a starter.
SPEAKER_02:Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01:But it's everything's flashy and has to make like it has to be about ratings. Like, why is why is Jacoby or Brissett not a starter, but Jake Justin Fields is.
SPEAKER_02:Justin Fields, like Dylan Gabriel's been given the reins in Cleveland. Like, well, we drafted him in the third round. We had to. Um come on. Yeah, you flacco, a retrack.
SPEAKER_01:You know, you need you it's all about the system and like where you go. Because you can be good and go to a bad system. Look at Baker Mayfield, look at Sam Darnold, look at Jameis. Jameis is still good. He just went to the show. Look at Mac Jones.
SPEAKER_02:Remember how bad he looked in Jacksonville?
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_02:He's got four games over three.
SPEAKER_01:He looks better than Brock Purdy. Right. I mean, it's all about the system. So if you go somewhere bad, you're gonna suck. And the outlier here is maybe Peyton Manning, but they let him suck. Yeah. They didn't give up on him. Right. So uh yeah. Um you got some Monday nighters tonight. Bears, um Bears Commanders, Bears Commanders, Falcons, Bills, Bills. Not that's not bad. It's pretty good, actually. No, it's not. Looking forward to that.
SPEAKER_02:It's much better than it was last week.
SPEAKER_01:Looking forward to that. Uh what's that? Uh-oh. It's shuttle time, man. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Bleak.
SPEAKER_03:We had to go. Our ride is here. We got a uh shuttle.
SPEAKER_01:Well, we gotta get on out of here. Our ride's here. But before we go, how about them hoops, man? I'm ready for basketball season. I'm so ready. I'm so ready, dude. Luke Laux. You try to talk to Adrian and Luke. I talked to both of them. They said they'd come on. I don't know why you don't just have them on then, man. I don't know. Time he's got a lineup. Yeah, you know, but I'm excited. Uh it's gonna be his first run, but fresh blood. Yeah, I mean, you got an entirely new roster. I'm excited to see it. Right. It's the expectations are none. Like it's his first year, so this will be fun just to see what happens.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, he's recruiting his ass off. Right. Selling absolutely nothing but but hopes and dreams. Yeah, he is.
SPEAKER_01:He's trying to, he's relating to the players, right? Right. I think that you I think he's able to relate because he's been in the NBA. Did he yeah, he's got FaceTime and Steph Curry. He's got guys that are at the highest level that are back.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. So that's that's gonna play, you know. You know, you might not be there beating out Duke for the top players in the country, but you start getting some kids in the back half of the top 100. Mm-hmm. It's all about it's all about getting the right squad together.
SPEAKER_01:He's he's doing a lot of local recruit, a lot of state of Florida kids. Florida, you can change it fast.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:And basketball, you can flip it fast. Yeah, you get the right guys, the team can be good. They're gonna be playing up tempo.
SPEAKER_02:It's gonna be up tempo trying to you know score 120 points every game. Well, good.
SPEAKER_01:That's gonna be fun. Yeah. I'm looking forward to seeing some shots being made, some threes being made. You're gonna have you got to make threes now nowadays. Right. Gotta shoot, you gotta use that three-point line of college.
SPEAKER_02:Fine with not seeing some 61 to 57 final scores. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Well, this is where Hamilton had it going when he was in the late teens, you know. He was up tempo style. So I think that's the got the that with some fresh blood here. I'm looking forward to it, man. Because, I mean, you can look right down the road. That's who you got to go through. Yeah. And they did it.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. Oh, yeah. They're gonna be good again, man.
SPEAKER_01:Save their AD's job. They got the eight-footer coming in next year. Just stand around. Right. So I'm looking forward to that. Uh, more football to get through. Um, gets interesting. Big game this Saturday night in Palo Alto. A bowl is relying on this game. It's it's do or die if you want to make a bowl. We'll watch them, we'll react to them, and we'll talk to you next time, right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
SPEAKER_03:You understand that? You gotta give us a shot. You know what,
