North Florida Sports Network Podcast

NFL Chaos, FSU Hopeless

Austin Fletcher Season 4 Episode 393
SPEAKER_03:

Let me ask you one question.

SPEAKER_00:

The note floor is both floor is bored floor is the north floor is body networking. The north floor is body network.

SPEAKER_02:

Hey just another Monday. Just another Mike Norvell. Monday boat Monday.

SPEAKER_03:

FSG released a statement. They're gonna help stand by Norvell. Florida's fired Billy Navier. We're gonna talk about both those things later. But it's a football Monday. We did a reaction to the Stanford game. That you if you haven't caught, you should go back and listen to it. But we're not gonna let that hijack the rest of what's going on in the football world as we react to football. We have pros playing. Yeah. Falcons are not who we thought they were. That team. Could have known better. Yeah. He just does some dumb shit, man. But I got a lot of in my games or my picks right, so back on track. There.

SPEAKER_04:

Good for you!

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Right. The Jags are who we thought they were. Hey man, Travis Hunter finally got a touchdown. Meaningless garbage touch touchdown.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. For a meaningless garbage player. I'm just kidding. What else? What else? How about that Denver comeback?

SPEAKER_03:

That incredible. 30 points in the fourth quarter. I mean, I was just thinking this is the biggest win of the week for the Giants. You're really making a statement. Beating the Eagles and now beating the Broncos in the road, but no. You give up 33 points in a quarter.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Unheard of. Defense is that's a choke job. Offense had to help though. They turned it over as well. And the egg and the kicker missed two extra points, so. Yeah. Including the last one when they took the lead back. Yeah, man. He knew it was over then.

SPEAKER_01:

Jets still suck.

SPEAKER_03:

They still are winless. Couple big ones tonight. Some big ones tonight. You got uh Tampa Bay, Detroit. That'll be a good one. And then uh Houston Seattle's a good matchup as well.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. Oh yeah. I think uh you got the potential MVP.

SPEAKER_03:

What'd you learn yesterday? You see your uh the Niners with your boy. Yeah. At a linebacker button. Right. Step stepping in for Warner.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, they look pretty good. Um George Kittleback makes a big difference in the run game. First time McCaffrey's been able to run all season. That's a big win, man. I'm hard on I, you know, I I I still hate Kyle Shanahan and I talk a lot of shit about him, but he had a good game plan. From time to time, he uh he outdoes himself a little bit.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, yeah, when the when the injuries are backed up and yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Tell you what, man, the Rams still look good. That defense is scary.

SPEAKER_03:

The defense is scary, and then like I said all year, if Stafford can stay healthy and he did it without Puka. Right. So if you get him back and you if you can keep him upright, he's been really good all year.

SPEAKER_01:

People rightfully talk about Baker right now as the leader in the MVP, but I I Stafford is having the leader in the gambling wise is Pat Mahomes with Baker second.

SPEAKER_03:

I know it's it's becoming that, but I you can't really argue it.

SPEAKER_01:

I'll argue that shit.

SPEAKER_03:

Okay.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean Pat yeah, Pat Mahomes is you know, he's good, but dude Baker's doing everything Mahomes did with a better record.

SPEAKER_03:

It's just some it's so dude, he just those regular throws where he's not even looking. And he's off the guy and he just throws over there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Incredible. If they keep up the pace which they played at the next if they close out and they win out, he's gonna get it. Yeah, you know, it's the the star factor, man. Right, right, right. And it's just a feel like it's just a matter of time.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean, if the Bucks can somehow keep the magic alive, but right, but there's also something to be said about you know Mahomes is playing in the same system he's been in for a long time with guys that have been in that system for a long time. Right. Mayfield is right.

SPEAKER_03:

What impress what I what impresses me about Pat is you know, just on the field is honestly, he doesn't force it. So when he has the weapons, he's improving his numbers. Yeah. Oh yeah. His ability to win without the weapons. They're probably gonna end up running all the way around when he was running around in a couple of the first games this year. Yeah, he's looked like he's a little bit different than last year.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. Well, you also gotta remember, I mean, he's he's pretty much he's putting up a big year.

SPEAKER_03:

He's solely responsible for them losing to the Jets. Justin said he'd have a good year. Yeah. And then when you finish the year like you did, you know, in the Super Bowl, when you put up a net like you did. Um, but uh Chiefs, man, 31st downs to the Raiders two. Yeah, the Raiders are bad. I mean, but the Chiefs right now, if you were doing a power ranking, do you gotta put them at the top or near it? I mean, as far as who's playing the best right now, it's the Chiefs. It's the the dominant fashion, offense and defense. Yeah, I mean nobody have you asked in the phone, nobody wants any part right now. But yeah, they seem like they lost Oh, but the Colts, yes. Yeah, people are story there. The Colts go into LA and just they're machine. Pushed them around, man. They are a machine right now, and they're doing it any way you want to do it. Right. And you talk about a guy that's not a QB that you're gonna do. Jonathan Taylor Jonathan is running the ball. We we were talking about Robinson, the running back for Atlanta, when he with, you know, due credit, but Jonathan Taylor's kept doing it this past week as well, and he's putting up monster numbers. The offensive line is playing great. And really, and you saw it last year with Philly. And they're not playing as great this year, and you can tell. The offensive line, when you play at that level, it sure makes quarterbacking, running backing, wide receiver play, all that. It starts it starts there, but you still have to have able guys, and Jonathan Taylor is definitely that. This guy's man, he's the best running back in the game right now. And he's durable.

SPEAKER_01:

I mean, they can very very easily be undefeated if they don't consistent, have brain farts.

SPEAKER_03:

Daniel Jones is still the question mark, I guess, on that team. Will he have you know turnovers if he's but the the play calling's been great? Yeah, and the way that they're able to run the ball, they don't have they don't put him in any situations where he he has to make those kind of decisions that hurt him. They're putting him in winning situations and winning plays where the tight end's wide open and he just has to make the right easy throw.

SPEAKER_01:

I think that being in a smaller market is also beneficial.

SPEAKER_03:

This guy's a first-round pick. Yeah. You know, he's got the tools.

SPEAKER_01:

Being in New York, being that lightning rod, it's there's none of pressure here.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. This is the team. Oh my God. I knew this this was all the team where I wanted Jameis to go to. Yeah. Any any quarterback that had a job or wanted a job that were wanted to go here. And Daniel Jones is a proof of that. Yeah. Because you got a running back. Yeah, we have to be able to offensive line, first of all, because you no pressure. Because the defense, whoever you're going to face, they got to step up and stop that run.

unknown:

Right.

SPEAKER_03:

Which is their own.

SPEAKER_01:

You saw them against the Rams. They're one loss. You know, if they don't have monumental.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, they don't throw the drop the ball over.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. And that might be the best defensive line in in the NFL. Yep. And they Colts look really good.

SPEAKER_03:

They're the number one seed in the AFC. Yeah. That's gonna, you feel like they're them in Kansas City are right now gonna be.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, they look the two best. NFC is a little bit a little bit muddier, man. I mean, the Eagles, they can be dominant. My Rams beat Rams look good.

SPEAKER_03:

My Rams are still going with them just because Bucks and Lions look good. I can trust, I mean, I don't trust the O-line though. And the health is a concern, but if they can keep Stafford up, I trust the Rams in the NFC.

SPEAKER_01:

I think the NFC is gonna be more about who's matched up against the city.

SPEAKER_03:

But the West is tough because you got Seattle who's gonna be in it. You got San Francisco who's five and two. Yeah, and they're undefeated in that. Four and two. Yeah, if Seattle's four and two, they play tonight to go five and two. They're at home. Yeah. So that's gonna be a hell of a race.

SPEAKER_01:

Both Seattle and Los Angeles have to go to San Francisco later in the season.

SPEAKER_03:

Yep. And I think you can you can definitely tell the difference Sala makes. Because that defense looks looks just looks just like they know what they're doing. Right. They have identity, they have a plan, and it just looks so much more that's that was the difference. Right. Him leaving, you can you could tell something was lacking, and it's like, oh, that's right.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, it you went him, then D'Amico Ryans, and I think once Ryans was gone, you're just that's right.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, D'Amico Ryans was there. Yeah. He was there with Sala. Right. He was Sala's linebackers. Yeah, yeah. And you realize, okay, we lost that with when Ryans left. There was nobody else that could be that right. They went from Steve Will too. Man, they realize it's back because even without McDonald's. They're well coached, they're well prepared, and they're playing hard, and they're not thinking. I mean, and they got, you know, they're not they're not world beaters, but you're gonna have to put them away. Right. They're professional football winning team. Yeah. You know, that's what Shanahan gets. He gets players that are execute little things.

SPEAKER_01:

They're scouts, man. They do a they do a really good job in the late rounds making up for GM John Lynch's idiotic takes.

SPEAKER_03:

So you got uh Kansas City and Indy in the AFC. The NFC, I would say, is a little more wide open. The Philly, though, that was a good win for them on the road. Uh offense stepped up a little bit, you know, went into Minnesota and got the win, both receivers, big days.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I think you can put Minnesota on the back burner this season. They just Jalen.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, Jalen Carter is a difference maker. Yeah. So you you saw when he when you took him out in the first game of the year. And we didn't play against New York. Yeah. He didn't play against the Giants, they didn't win. Right. So he's back, they won. That's gonna be something to watch there. Uh, I'd say Philly, and man, it feels like Philly and uh and Los Angeles again play in Philly because they choked that game away with the field goal. Right. Well, you know, you can't. But they they could be on a collision course again. You gotta watch out for the Bucks. Watch out for the Niners, the Bucks. Uh, you do have to watch out for the Bucs, especially when they if they can get um the guys healthy. They can get a Dunze back and Mike Evans back. Yeah. And Chris Godwin, I don't know, his knees. He came back, but then he's out again. Yeah, that's always that's always a rookie.

SPEAKER_01:

I think Tez Johnson can can give you. Right. Right.

SPEAKER_03:

I was gonna say if you've Sterling Shepard, man, if you were just gonna if you just get the rookie back and Mike Evans, boom. Yeah, you you go and then because you've got the guys now, these these receivers now to step up and can be like your three, four guys when if you know you have a dunze is a number one. Buca. And then, but yeah, the get Bucky Riley back, Riley who Bucky Irving. Bucky Riley, Bucky Riley, Bucky, Riley. Riley Burke.

SPEAKER_01:

Get him back. Cal Riley.

SPEAKER_03:

Cal Riley Burke Bama. Big dump buggy. Big dump buggy out of the backfield for the Bucks. But yeah. NFC's wide open, I feel. But the AFC, I just feel like, especially after these last few weeks.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I'm not betting against Kansas City.

SPEAKER_03:

The Chiefs are going on a run. I'm feeling like putting that future bet right now. I bet it's not going in like it was.

SPEAKER_01:

Some of the teams that were exp you know looked like they might be contenders in the AFC have started to really look shitty.

SPEAKER_03:

Man, you just well, just some of the things are lining up, right? Yeah. And you got that defense that's fast and well coached and physical. And when they have to, it's gonna make any offense just fucking stressed. Yeah. Okay. And then you on the other side, you got Andy Reid and Pat Mahomes with weapons. Yeah. It's gonna be tough. You're gonna put them down with before all that up. You're gonna your best shot is beating them in a close game. Yeah. And hoping you have the ball last. Right. And who's who's gonna, you know. Oh, then you get the toss and you lose it. Yeah. You know he's gonna kick no matter what. Shanahan. Yeah. Fuck an idiot. Yeah. So yeah, that's uh speaking of idiots. Well, you know, they've been under I honestly, this has been I I did not expect them to be this at this point in the season. And they lost in that one of the loss they have what to Jacksonville and one to Tampa. Yeah. But a big win yesterday. I mean, if they would have, you know. Just gotta keep winning. They've beaten good teams. They, you know, they Tampa game was tough, but they played hard. They just got beat by I mean then Baker made plays. Yeah. You were out. You had is gonna beat you eventually.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. You I mean you lose Fred Warner in the game, but again, like you know, Baker made plays, man. Yeah, so you gotta give him tip your cat.

SPEAKER_03:

But uh you responded well. Big win for the Niners over the Falcons. Just shut down that out that Falcon offense.

SPEAKER_01:

Dolphins Jets, man.

SPEAKER_03:

I don't want to talk about the Dolphins. They suck. Tua is an embarrassment.

SPEAKER_01:

Ownership has come out and doubled down on Mike McDaniel.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, it's it's an embarrassment. Yeah. He shouldn't have a job. Tua should has done nothing. If they're not giving Jameis a job, why are that why does Tua keep getting a job? Because they're paying him. At least Jameis throws touchdowns and picks. At least he's big and tall.

SPEAKER_01:

Right, but we don't owe Jameis guaranteed money. I know. We owe Tua guaranteed money.

SPEAKER_03:

We're gonna pay him$55 million.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. It's the Mike Norvell of the NFL.

SPEAKER_03:

At least Dak's bigger and he's and he's trained, and he's actually playing really well. Oh, Dak's way better than Tim. I know. But he's like he he's got great agents, first of all. I'm hard on Dak. Yeah. But he's he's playing well this year. He's playing really well. And he and he looks good. He's taking he's taking his body seriously, looks a little more light footed. Um hey man, that that Schottenheimer offense. Well, and he's got pickings and he's got weapons, but he's he's playing really well. Dak's playing really well. He he's playing like he earned he's earning the money right now. I still wouldn't pay him that much. Nah. There's only one like one guy I'd pay. Right. You pay guys like Mahomes too much. That's it. That's probably the only guy I'd pay. Proven wins. Maybe Josh Allen. Maybe, but not uh, yeah. Not paying Josh Allen that money. Yeah, because he's too much, too much out, too much physical freakness. It's not gonna be there eventually. Like he's not gonna be able to just run over people.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. He's just not the same way. He's done the control game away more.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm really looking forward to the Detroit Tampa game tonight. Um Detroit at home's been pretty unbeatable.

SPEAKER_01:

They will have Mike Evans back.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, I know, but I'm taking I got Detroit tonight. It's up to six now. We got it at five and a half, I believe, but yeah, it's a lot. I know, but I'm I'm taking the Lions to cover and win tonight anyway, even if I had to do it again at six. Uh okay. Um, college football, other than the shit show here in North Florida and down the road. Middle Florida. Down the road. Um you have Louisville, just a bad week. Bad weekend for the state. Yeah. FIU won. Yeah, Willie Willie Sim. There you go. Turning it around. There you go. All right, uh, you got big wins for the tide. Yeah. Tide big. Georgia came back, beat Ole Miss after I mean what a great loss that was for them in terms of galvanizing a team.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

And it's just like the coach just sit back and just let everybody else take it away. Because they just got ripped over their head. And the same way Florida State got and just halted on a just on the pedestal of being, hey, we're a top ten team. Alabama's no good? Yeah, okay. No, that was a freaking upset.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and it, you know, the Simpson kid got a little bit more comfortable with playing.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, yeah. And it was perfect timing to play that game if you're Alabama. When you look back at it, it's not a conference game. It's an environment against uh you're gonna see similar environments this season. You're gonna see teams that kind of try to do stuff to confuse you, but if you stay calm, and I saw a couple throws in that game where he has free blitzer running right at him, he stands in there, throws a freaking dime really well, and gets hit. And that wasn't there in week one. No, it wasn't, no. So they were they were they were adjustments in week one. But but what they've been able to do is get to that and coach that when coaches, you know, you always hear them after a loss, they get that. But that they really did that. They all focused, they kind of locked, they battened the hatches. And I, you know, I said it at the time, I was like, Alabama's gonna win out. Because when you they're gonna they still have a lot of talent on defense, and they're showing that. Yeah. Once they can see a game plan, because they just got kind of shocked with I mean, Gus just surprised him and hit him in the mouth, that's what he does. But once you see a game plan, they're they're playing good football. You they can that defense won the game against Vanderbilt, who's by the way, who's for real. Yeah, they're they're really physically they're for real. Because you saw you saw it in the Alabama game. They played right there with Alabama, but uh the turnovers that what's his name made were the difference, but the response that they had were they beat LSU and it wasn't an upset. No, they were favored. They were favored, but you their better team. They looked and played like the better team, and LSU gave it all they had and just had no answers.

SPEAKER_01:

Nah, that that Clark Lee dude has built Vanderbilt into He really has just a great job.

SPEAKER_03:

He's done a great job, and he picked just a great, perfect quarterback.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, yeah. I would have, man, I would have really liked to see FSU go after 2023.

SPEAKER_03:

Just get somebody like well, Virginia got somebody like that.

SPEAKER_01:

After 2023.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

They're out there. Oh, yeah. The kid, the Chandler Morris kid is.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, that's that's the part you're seeing Belichick swing and miss on. And you and you're seeing it right here at Florida State, too, with getting guys like DJ U because he's a prototype. And you think you can just coach it out of him. Just get the good players, man. This is a time where you you can get guys that are proven that aren't gonna go to the NFL ever because they don't pass those tests, but they're absolute winners, and they're gonna carve up these college defenses, and Virginia figured it out. They got one, they did, yeah. And they turn it around, and they're they're gonna go undefeated, probably, in the conference.

SPEAKER_01:

They will. Um, they got you know, they got Duke coming up, who's not terrible. That's probably their Georgia Tech.

SPEAKER_03:

Georgia Tech and Virginia have the inside track. Um, they you know, they still boat Georgia Tech has a couple of tough ones, but I mean they're both should be favored to win the rest of their game. Right.

SPEAKER_01:

Neither one plays Miami.

SPEAKER_03:

Uh neither one plays Clemson either.

SPEAKER_01:

No. Well, Clemson's no good.

SPEAKER_03:

Georgia Tech already beat him.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. It's you know, the the the two teams standing in in the way look to be Miami. You already beat Louis Louisville, Virginia. Georgia Tech doesn't play Louisville.

SPEAKER_03:

So you you're the the win against Louisville for Virginia is looking really big. Right. And they did that right after they played us. I just uh man really impressed by Virginia.

SPEAKER_01:

It'd be nice to to for Florida State to figure out how to how to take one of their losses and not have it count as a conference loss. Because Virginia did lose to NC State.

SPEAKER_03:

Virginia sucked for a while, and they stayed with their guy. Yeah. And they're having that resurgence, and I'm it's sad that we're having to compare it to Virginia, but not really. Because when you can't win a dagum ACC game, you're the four and four days look wow.

SPEAKER_01:

There is no comparison right now. We're compared to teams like Boston College, yeah, North Carolina.

SPEAKER_03:

Abysmal just season. Florida State Um and Mike Alford have come out with a statement saying that they will not be firing Mike Norvell. They will be standing behind him, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. And supporting him for the rest of the year. I don't know what that is, other than we have no other choice, guys.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. I mean, he, you know, if they're not going to give Alfred the money to buy him out, then he I mean, what else is he?

SPEAKER_03:

We don't we don't have the money, and we and it's not a slam like if there was a slam dunk guy we knew that wanted the job, what and then was just a matter of just working out details, then yeah, you would fire him. So he could start behind the scenes stuff. But they don't there's not that.

SPEAKER_01:

No, there isn't, but at the same time you're staring three and nine in the face.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh I know, it's it's it's almost you're gonna lose money interest. And you saw it and you saw it last game when you actually have calls where Florida was screwed, nobody fucking cares. Nobody cares. Because you're in a plan like that, delay a game. No, you delay a game in the first freaking play. Right. So I'm not watching this. No. This is a team that Hawaii beat. Right, yeah. So the interest is gone be not because of that one game, it's because it just keeps going. They get worse each week. They play worse who's stepping up. The players that are counted on to step up aren't good enough. And I and I I'm not this is I'm just done with Tommy. And and I I I believe he's giving it everything he has. He seems to be doing everything he can off the field. That was a cheap ass shot. Yeah, yeah. And let's just sit, but he looked a step slow. He's let he hasn't he's looked worse every week so far this year. Yeah. So what the fuck's the point? You kind of you kind of. You got what you wanted out of him, you beat Alabama. Right. And well, he's not getting any better. You know, but he's he's giving you everything he he has. He's freaking throwing his body on the line, but he's slowing down, so I think you need to put him on the back burner. And you got and if you don't want to lose him, if that's what you're afraid of, then who gives a crap? First of all, you tell him that you're you're he's getting healthy. You're taking some time off to get your legs uh under you. Because I want to see, now that they're gonna keep Norvell, I want to see the freshman at every position that they have a chance to play in. And then yeah, that's what that's what I want to see. You have to you have to get interest somewhere, it's not there. Oh well, yeah. I mean, that's so like change the quarterback right now. That's what if you're not gonna you didn't fire the coach, right? You didn't fire the coordinators, right? Last year you fired the coordinators, okay? This year it's like, okay, well, we're not firing the coordinators. Well, we need to change the fucking quarterback then.

SPEAKER_01:

I don't, I don't, I don't think that's gonna generate any interest.

SPEAKER_03:

I don't give a shit.

SPEAKER_01:

Why is the fan base?

SPEAKER_03:

I mean it is right here. Well, yeah, yeah. And it is and it is on your team, and it is in terms of nah the team's a lost cause, man.

SPEAKER_01:

You got guys in the rock, you got guys in the locker room cracking jokes at your coach's expense. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That um like that players are mocking the coach saying Right. When you when you rely on the portal, when you go and get kids that are that are one year. Response right, that all of a sudden success is out the windows. Right. Well, they don't give a shit. I barely know this guy. He gave me money to come here, I'm getting it anyway. Like, whatever. This guy's a cornball.

SPEAKER_03:

I think that's a lot of losing, that's what happens. Yeah. And they kind of see and they're like, man, this dude's making this much money. Right. And he's not, and we're he ain't doing nothing, what, but say what? Respond.

unknown:

Right.

SPEAKER_03:

He doesn't shit every week.

SPEAKER_01:

So I don't think it's there's the players aren't hold ac held accountable, you know. Right. And that's that he needs to be dragged off the fucking field immediately. Right.

SPEAKER_03:

So it's I don't want to wait and wait to do that. No. No. Get him off the field immediately and let him know what we're why what you will not accept, and let he can sit his ass over there for for at least the next. Series. Yeah. But he didn't. But no, he didn't. He waited and let him stay in the game. And so he doesn't. So what do you then you allow them to brush by you, walk right by you, and then joke about you in the freaking cuz you got you desperate for a win and you don't you don't have anybody else.

SPEAKER_01:

Well now you like maybe now you don't have anybody. Well you're playing you're not firing you. No, you're playing everybody with any speck of ability.

SPEAKER_03:

So here's all right. So if I'm if I'm the AD then, and and I guess first of all, I I think I would have fired him if by losing that game. I don't think he can get to six wins. I'm all I'm all for waiting to the end of the year, though. Um right now I don't think he can do it, but if he can get to six wins, I'll let him and and if he can keep some of the recruits, I'll give him another shot. But it it doesn't look good right now. It doesn't, because it's four-game losing streak, and he lost to the worst fucking team. Like you couldn't just go take care of that. Ugh. Like that was the one that was on the board. You're just like, well, all they gotta do is try to. Because you were like you were pointing out uh the pit game as being like they can try in that game and still lose. Yeah. Right? You know, and that's why I'm worried about. But every when Stanford was discussed, it's like, oh, well, they just gotta show up, they'll win. If they try. And they didn't. Right. Not everybody, some people did try, but it's a team sport. Yeah. And if you don't have everybody on board, you it does you're nothing. They it yeah. You're nothing if you don't have everybody on board. So they're not gonna fire them. You're gonna hang, you're gonna try to salvage the season. And when that you don't think they're gonna win another game.

SPEAKER_01:

No, I don't I don't I mean, I don't see a way that that and I just don't see a team that is playing the way they are, behaving the way they are on the field in the locker room. I don't see any way where and I'm not talking about like the eight to ten players that come and talk to the media after every practice, and you can see you're actually giving effort and talking team-wide. I I just I just don't see it. You know, you're playing teams now that are better. You know, Wake Forest is good, they got the number five ranked defense in the country. Yep. Like they they've got seasons to play for. I mean, even up in Clemson.

SPEAKER_03:

Yep, that's the key. The what do we play for? And that's where I'm that's where I say now you've got to. I mean, what if you're Mike Norvell and the AD has come to you, and that's what I'm telling them. If I if I'm the AD and saying, all right, you can't fire him, but you do whatever you gotta do, man. I'm telling them, hey man, don't you ever let somebody like that do that crap.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

All right, because we can't have our fans be pissed at that. And you can't sit around and wait. You grab that motherfucker, grab him off the bench and sit him down and make him learn from his attitude, and you're gonna get some respect there. Don't, don't, don't, don't question yourself. I'm not gonna fire you for the rest of the year, but we're not gonna do that shit. We're gonna play our, we're gonna play with effort. Because if we play with effort and just pay attention, we win that game. Yeah, sure.

SPEAKER_01:

But that assumes that the AD knows what they're doing.

SPEAKER_03:

And we better not get our ass blown out because we haven't got blown out yet. Miami game could have easily been a blowout. They they put effort up at the end. They did, they they set the scoreboard, which means they still are trying. They were then. That was the first time this whole regime where guys are walking away from him when he's saying, Everybody look at me, it's halftime. Oh, yeah, it was it was the same thing you saw last year. You started to see it, yeah. But everything it was all blind, a lot of it, oh, we got the wrong quarterback. Uh yeah, but it wasn't just that. Exactly. But that that's that that gets all the attention, though. Yeah. Guys like, no, we got a better quarterback now. It's more of a guy, and we got a new system, and but what's going on with buying into the culture?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, it's not happening. There's no culture. I I think a big there's also a big issue of your defensive coordinator is very likely to not be here next year.

SPEAKER_03:

Right. So you're getting mocked in your own locker room.

SPEAKER_01:

Right. This is like when Willie Taggart was getting Skittles thrown at the back of his head on the team party.

SPEAKER_03:

You have no optimism, all right. So I'm trying to say who's gonna, all right, I want to turn turn on the harp and who's gonna be the the rest of the season half glass half full guy. You want to do I have to do it?

SPEAKER_01:

If you want, man. I've I'm not, dude, no. I've given up on this program until they make changes. And I'm talking about AD down.

SPEAKER_00:

Hey.

SPEAKER_03:

From what I saw last year, the you know, you were not getting our ass kicked as hard. In fact, we actually beat a team that was better than us. But then, you know, we kind of, you know, we roughed up some teams that had no business even playing. And with that combined with the first win of the year, we didn't know how to handle that. So we got into some dog fights that shouldn't have been dog fights. We weren't prepared. And uh we lost some really close games against some teams that really wanted it. In a league that doesn't really care if we win. Doesn't really give a crap. And when it comes to the benefit of the doubt, they're not gonna give it to us. And Virginia is not a pushover. So you're gonna have to stop them at least once, and you can't drop the ball in overtime. But the offense played well, the defense, they dropped the ball. So, you know, you go to Miami, Miami's outclassed you, alright? But this is gonna be a blowout. They they want to blow you out, but you didn't let them. And I know it's and we don't play for moral victories. Well, it was a moral victory. And fighting to lose by six. Would have been better if it was four. But you know, you fought hard. Because you were down 28-3. And you didn't really have a chance to win the game, and you still played hard to the end. Alright? That's that's something that matters to some people. Okay, alright, so then you got the pit game. This was the one that you were circling. And for good reason. Because this is where your defense would really show their ass. Yeah, you blew it. Because your offense played well enough to win, but against a good defense. Against a good defense, but I will say didn't protect the ball in timely when it when it mattered the most. Because that fumble in that time was the worst timing.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

You don't fumble there, you probably win the game. But the defense, though, the defense lets a freshman quarterback du do whatever they want. On fourth down in the first drive in their own territory, they go for it. They are not scared at all. I should tell you what they saw in film and how they how they were gonna play the game. So you knew right there, oh shit. But you battled, you know, and but the mistakes were there. You scored at the end, and you gave yourself a fighting chance, I guess. Uh then you're you know, because Pitts, you know, they got talent, they got a good defense, I guess. You played better there. Uh you're gonna go against the Stanford team that lost to Hawaii. This is the game where you show if you play with any, if you play like you had the first three losses, you win this game. But it just keeps getting worse. Right.

SPEAKER_01:

That's what it hurt. This was the first game where it was just a result of the entire team quitting before they even got there.

SPEAKER_03:

Delay a game on the first play. So how to hit reset. They're not the ADs come out, they're not gonna fire the coach. Okay. So he's got so if you're a player.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, you're gonna have to put up with this.

SPEAKER_03:

You gotta you gotta have to shut the hell up. You're a grown man, you gotta play, you gotta play for yourself and which means a team, but you gotta play hard and give it ultimate effort. Because you gotta that that's what's unless you just don't care. Because when it looks bad like that, it's not good for you, you in the future. Yeah in terms of football, in terms of jobs, in terms of anything. Right. So you need to suck it up and learn to that there's always gonna be someone that you don't think deserves it in a position greater than you. Always. At any job. There's always like that. Yeah. So you gotta do your job because it your ass is on the line now. And you gotta think about what's best for you is to do what's best for the team and to show that you can't turn, shut out the noise, and give it maximum effort. That's what I'm looking for in the bye week. I'm looking for buy-in. I'm looking for a team that's gonna fight for this fucking guy.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. And there's probably a few kids in there that that'll Well, there better be.

SPEAKER_03:

And if they're not, get them out.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, that's that's the thing.

SPEAKER_03:

Get them out. We can't afford to get him out, but we can afford to get the players out.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

That's what I'd do. That's just like whatever. If you're not gonna be all in for the guy, if you're gonna mock him and you're not gonna battle, then screw you. Get out.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, that's what we saw in the other.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, I wanna well then screw them. Get out. We can't, you didn't get a contract like him. Right. So we're not we can afford to get rid of you.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, we just won't pay you again next year. Yeah. You know, you'll get your money this year.

SPEAKER_03:

You gotta find guys that don't I don't want to hear the noise about that's outside noise. Yeah, all that stuff is really. When you turn it on in the field, you gotta shut all that out.

SPEAKER_04:

Right.

SPEAKER_03:

And play with a purpose. And play with something to something to play for, and you and you started, you didn't see that.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah. It's very, very hard for me to see that it's gonna change seven weeks into the season. Like once kids quit and pack it up.

SPEAKER_04:

Like we had to go.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, they usually don't turn it back on.

SPEAKER_04:

Uh shuttle.

SPEAKER_01:

We'll see though. Ah, yeah!

SPEAKER_03:

We're gonna see all the way, man. And uh, I mean, you gotta what else are you gonna do?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, get your ass kicked by week.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. I think we'll be this weekend. You're the coach, though. You you don't you don't put up with kids not listening. I'm not gonna get embarrassed. That's that's kind of that's that's maybe what the AD is saying.

SPEAKER_01:

Like, well then don't let them walk all over you, man. The AD ain't saying shit. That guy doesn't have any idea what the fuck's going on.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, if I that's what if I couldn't fire him, that's what I'd say first. I'd be like, don't you ever wait for the player to come out, first of all, because by leaving him in, you're telling him right there, then you're telling him right there shit don't matter. Sure. Shit don't matter. No, you take him out immediately. Right, but AD doesn't immediately have a clue, bro. I'm telling you maybe you're the coach. And he uh and he don't have a clue, obviously. No, because he's trying to do it. If I'm telling him maybe JD, I'm saying, hey, don't worry about that for the rest of the year, but I don't want to see that on the field. I want to see effort. And if you see somebody that's not giving it to you, you take them out.

SPEAKER_01:

And if if you don't, right, and then you know I'm just saying that's what I'm looking for. It's just wait, yeah. Play some walk-ons.

SPEAKER_03:

Give me back my stun! Play some walk-ons.

SPEAKER_01:

Walk-ons. They'll they'll try hard. Rosenbagger! They'll give it for you. Rosenbagger will play. Bobby Abeard, Donnie Abair. Man, basketball starts. Way more enjoyable. Only five games left. Yeah. Five losses.

SPEAKER_03:

Well enough fine. Florida is fine, Billy Napier. Rumor has it it's Lane Kiffin! I've been hearing that one for a long time, buddy. Don't care either. We got Monday night games, man. We'll watch them, man. And we'll react to them. We got more picks. Picks. And we're gonna go over the records next this week. Right here on the North Florida Sports Network.

SPEAKER_04:

You gotta give us a shot. You know what?
