Monday Overreactions: College Chaos And NFL Reality Check
Let me ask you one question The North Florida The North Florida Network is Border Network The North Florida Network Hey got another football Monday and you just gotta give us a shot right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
SPEAKER_01:You gotta give us a shot! You know what?
SPEAKER_00:You know what? You do you do we're gonna react to the football from this last weekend?
SPEAKER_01:You know the shot is over. Brian Daval. He's fired in New York. Stepping into the offense fire. Well, that was the last remaining Bill Belichick protege. Rabel doesn't count.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Ha ha.
SPEAKER_00:Brabel doesn't count. Because the Patriots are rolling. Yeah, that's a big win, man. Big win for them. Going into Tampa.
SPEAKER_01:And in Tampa. We'll get to that. First start with college.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, college.
SPEAKER_01:For some reason, we're still paying attention to it.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Pissed off. Don't really want to talk about Portugal.
SPEAKER_01:There's no reason to. They didn't fire him. Yeah, I mean that's all you gotta know. He's not fired, so nothing's changed. Still stuck. Top 25. Still alive. Yeah. All that matters now are the playoff rankings. AM are still undefeated. Yeah, AM looked good. Indiana survived. They did. Couple of the most amazing catches I've ever seen. Yep. It you know, I personal feeling is nobody's gonna touch Ohio State in the playoffs.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:They just got an unreal roster, man.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Everything's wrong. I mean, you you know, the QB is first year starting in his Texas Tech with a big win.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Looks like they're gonna win the Big 12 with at least being the championship. Ole Miss. Play this did it all, so right. Oregon survived in Iowa. Not easy to do. No. Uh the quarterback there, big some big throws to League Benson. I remember that guy.
SPEAKER_01:How about the ACC, man? Virginia and Louisville both lose.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, Wake Forest beats Virginia. I know.
SPEAKER_01:Cal goes on the road, beats Louisville.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it's Madden. The ACC, man. They they honestly don't deserve a spot.
SPEAKER_01:No, they don't.
SPEAKER_00:But they're getting one.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, yeah. Virginia plays Duke this weekend. Georgia Tech controls their destiny. Right. They play Boston College. They play Pitt. They win those two, they're going. Pitt also controls their own destiny. Yeah, they're playing well. Yeah, so. But yeah, like you said, nobody from the ACC deserves to go. Honestly, dude, there doesn't need to be a 12-team playoff this year. You can take the top three and just have a best of two kind of tournament, and then let's just call it a season.
SPEAKER_00:Right. Yeah. Well. What else in college football?
SPEAKER_01:Let's see. Brian Kelly. I think the deadline might have already passed. Gave LSU until 1 p.m. today to come with an offer on the buyout. Or to uh announce some kind of confirmation that they're gonna pay him all the money he's owed, or he's gonna take legal action. So that looks like it's gonna be messy. Well, yeah. So buckle up there. Right. Fans starting to get a little unhappy with Eli Drinkowitz in Missouri, if you can believe it or not.
SPEAKER_00:They demand perfection. Texas is not looking bad. They're starting to play better.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, well, Texas, you know, they still got Georgia and they still got AM. So we'll, you know, people bitching about where they're ranked.
SPEAKER_00:Well, if they win those games, they'll deserve it.
SPEAKER_01:Right, right.
SPEAKER_00:If they lose, they'll fall back. So there you go.
SPEAKER_01:But they gotta make sure they're right there at 11, so it's a quality win for both Georgia and AM. That's the way the SEC operates.
SPEAKER_00:It's less about if they just win one, they might have it. I'm telling you, Texas is nine and three, they're in. Possibly. I think they will be. They're gonna do whatever they can to get credit five teams. They'll get credit for playing Ohio State. Yeah. And then and they'll be like, well, that that's what that's we're not gonna penalize them for that. And they've been playing better. So if they win one of those two last two games against a top opponent, right? All right.
SPEAKER_01:Um, that'll guess that's what's interesting to watch to see how they're gonna unless what what if Texas AM locks up their appearance in the SEC title game before the Texas game.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, that's a rivalry.
SPEAKER_01:And then just then just rests guys.
SPEAKER_00:That's not gonna happen.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I know. Although he should.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I think Indiana's giving themselves wiggle room.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, the the Big Ten probably getting three.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, it looks like uh Ohio State, Oregon, and Indiana are all getting it.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, you know, they're they're holding out a chance for USC or Michigan, but I don't I don't think either one of those teams are gonna uh Michigan finishes ten and two with a win over Ohio State.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Then you might, you know, but I don't see that happening.
SPEAKER_00:Right. I mean, yeah, if they yeah, they'll get in. If they win out and they beat Ohio State, they'll they're getting in.
SPEAKER_01:You'll get five from the SEC, three from the Big Ten, one from the ACC, one from the group of five, and then two from the Big Twelve? No. You gotta get Notre Dame and then the Big Twelve winner. Yeah, Big Twelve and ACC are getting one each. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:That's for sure.
SPEAKER_01:Right, you know, it's I mean you can very well see a rematch of BYU and Texas Tech in that championship game. And then, you know, if they're not taking both of them.
SPEAKER_00:Alright, well you I mean you still got Utah there too.
SPEAKER_01:Right. Well they'll they'll play BYU. So it you know, that'll that'll kinda equal itself out with the holy war.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. Well NFL. Whoop the dude for college. Yeah. NFL. The Bills, man. Right.
SPEAKER_01:I told you, man. I mean, I didn't pick 'em, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Dolphins whoop that ass. The hangover. I don't know, man. I think that coach is gonna get canned. Or he should be. McDermott? Yeah, I just think that they're the same team every year. It's just like, yeah, they're oh, the Bills are really good, but then they're they're not gonna be. I mean, they got some good players. But they just they they need to go over the the hump, you know? You know, it's like the Broncos had Dan Reeves. Yeah. And they went, you got Shanahan.
SPEAKER_01:Right. Well, I feel like I mean if Josh Allen is if they miss the playoffs, then yeah.
SPEAKER_00:You you have like one of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play. Hands down. This guy's already, if you put the list he's on for like rushing consecutive games with like rushing, he's up there with it's all like Hall of Fame running back.
SPEAKER_01:But he has he has a lot of games under his belt like yesterday. Right. Where he turns the ball over at the worst possible times.
SPEAKER_00:I it you know, yeah. Well, uh because the the Patriots now are yeah, they're they're far and away the best team in that division. Yeah, man. Ahead of schedule.
SPEAKER_01:Right? I mean Drake May looks like the upper two of QB's.
SPEAKER_00:He's got Drake May, he's got Mike Vrabel, he's got Tom Brady's offense coordinator. Yeah. Josh McDaniel there. Right. There's a right guys are back in the right spots. And it's like, God dang it. Are we gonna is New England gonna be good for a long time again? Yep, probably so. Because Rabel's a hell, he's a good coach. Yeah, he's a really good coach. Knows what he's doing. Now he's in a big market and he's got a quarterback, it looks like. So great. He was winning in Tennessee.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, they screwed him.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. So uh the Patriots look for real. Because Drake May's throwing dimes, man, and he's tough. He's running, he's making all the plays.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, I mean, outside of Mahomes, I think he's probably the best quarterback in the AFC. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_00:Brian Dayball. He's fired. He's out. Giants had a lead in Chicago.
SPEAKER_01:Tell you what, man.
SPEAKER_00:And he runs his quarterback into the ground. Yeah. Who was playing well. He was. And then Russell Wilson comes in. Right. Well, once Russ is in, he's he's it's over. Yeah, well, you gotta you can't do that anymore. Yeah, you gotta put in Jameis's.
SPEAKER_01:But the the story, man, is is dude, they couldn't they couldn't get Caleb Williams on the ground.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, Caleb Williams came through when he had to. And another win for the Bears, six and three.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Oh yeah. That's that's uh all of a sudden that's a three-way battle in that division.
SPEAKER_00:Colts winning overtime. Jonathan Taylor, MVP. Give it to him now. Man, he took one game off and he came back with a vengeance. Yeah. Goodness gracious.
SPEAKER_01:I think it's him or Stafford.
SPEAKER_00:It's it's one or the other. Yeah, because Stafford's putting up just crazy, crazy, crazy numbers without the efficiency, and he's running that offense. I think you're right about that. But you don't expect Jonathan Taylor to keep doing what he's doing.
SPEAKER_01:No every week. Yeah, and Daniel Jones is coming back down to earth a little bit, so well, he's the MVP of that team, and if they keep winning and he stays healthy.
SPEAKER_00:I think you gotta give it to him. Oh, yeah, man. I mean, it's ridiculous, man. Absolutely ridiculous. He's the way he's playing. The way he's patiently running, kind of waits for the blocks, and then he hits a hole. You can't catch him. Yeah, because he's got the speed. Right. So he's got the he's all around back right now. Best back in the game. Just killing it. And if you got him on fantasy, you're winning every week.
SPEAKER_01:And you know, the game against the Falcons, that the the difference between the two offensive game plans when both players, you know, Bajan Robinson is he's one of the best running backs in football.
SPEAKER_00:Those are probably the best too.
SPEAKER_01:And they gave it to him half the amount of times that that Jonathan Taylor got the ball. It's just I don't know why Atlanta continues to run their offense through their quarterback.
SPEAKER_00:Right, you gotta run it through that guy. Yeah. Robinson. But um Saints pick up a win. Saints upset the dadgum Panthers. I mean, NFL, man. Yeah, they go to Green Bay and they win, and they come home and they lose to the Saints.
SPEAKER_01:To the Saints. To the ass Saints. Vikings suck again. Ravens got the win.
SPEAKER_00:Ravens four and five now, just one game back. They are clear favorites to win that division because the Steelers. Too old. Yep. Too old. I mean the Chargers didn't, I mean, they were down people. Right.
SPEAKER_01:But they just they leaned on that defense to make life miserable for Rodgers. Um James having a good year. Yeah. Texans beating the Jags, man. The Jags all of a sudden, a few weeks ago, they were the hottest team in football. Yeah. The Jags. I think you're right about Trevor Lawrence. Yeah. Dude, he's not it. He's not it. I think he's not. Right. Eventually they're gonna just be like, all right, man, just Well he got his money, man.
SPEAKER_00:He got your money, but you're not it. He's set. He doesn't really care. He got his money, he's set for life. Yeah. He's not, he's he's just gonna do what he does.
SPEAKER_01:He's not, he's not ever getting any better. No. What you see right now is what he's gonna be for the rest of his career.
SPEAKER_00:And it's just that's that was an inexcusable loss.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:29 to 10.
SPEAKER_01:Going into the fourth quarter against a backup. Right. And you give up 26 points. Davis Mills. Miles Davis, Davis Mills. And then like the pick six on the the comeback attempt to uh 26 points in the fourth quarter, they give up, man. It's just amazing to me.
SPEAKER_00:It's just I don't know, man. The quarterbacks that are making there's there's not many dudes. No, you know it's kind of it's kind of what if you heard Draymond Green and Crazy Mom. Yeah. Like the way he's tall and Dak Prescott a bum. Kind of like that's slang from kind of what I've been saying. He's not good for the money. It's not like you're paying him, isn't it? And it's not just him. League wide. Yeah, it's it's Tua. Tua's awful. Tua's not worth it. Lawrence is awful. Lawrence is not worth it. Go down the list, man. There's probably all of them.
SPEAKER_01:Right. I mean, there's very few that are worth the money. Um I mean, Pat Mahomes, I guess, but he's five and four. Right. Well, there's yeah. But you know, he's already he's delivered you Super Bowls at this point. So you've you've gotten your money's worth. Jalen Hurts, you can say, all right, yeah, he won. So yeah. But who I mean that that whole team does does a lot of heavy lifting. It's not it's not just Jalen.
SPEAKER_00:I know. That's why it's it's a team game, and you can't just if you're gonna be dishing out these kind of contracts to a quarterback, you better be able to like come up with the difference that you're not gonna be able to do with your roster because you're getting all that money, so you better be able to make make it up.
SPEAKER_01:And you look at situations like when you're yeah, when you let a guy like Darnold walk, you know, in in favor of the rookie, the guy that you you took in the first round, and now Darnold's over there in Seattle fighting for the division, you know. Well, yeah, I think there's a fine line, but he he didn't sign for that much.
SPEAKER_00:No.
unknown:No.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, like Baker. That that's the kind of contract you want.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. But I'm saying, like, it it if Minnesota decides, you know what, we're I'm not paying a guy 50-something million. Well, I think they I don't think they would have had to pay him to keep him in Minnesota. Just take a freaking walk, pal.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, I'll just bring in freaking Joe Flacco.
SPEAKER_01:Exactly.
SPEAKER_00:You know what I'm saying? I'll just bring in Jacoby Brissett. I'll call Jameis. Right. Any anybody like you build the team around And I don't understand why any of these teams aren't doing that right there. The Cardinals are finally moving on. Kyler Murray's not worth it.
SPEAKER_01:Everybody got in a hurry to find a generational quarterback. And it they continue to think that it has to be done. Right. It has to be done in the first round.
SPEAKER_00:And if they don't realize it's like, well, he had Andy Reed. Right. Pretty much. Yeah, he's had Andy Reid. Andy Reid, all right.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Why don't you go find that first in a great a great situation to watch?
SPEAKER_00:Why don't you go find that first?
SPEAKER_01:You know, it it wasn't a shit team that just decided, hey, we're gonna draft who everybody says we should draft a quarterback.
SPEAKER_00:I don't get it, man. I don't the I I think that's this this is uh you won't see that going forward. No, you won't. Well I mean you're gonna you're gonna come to these rookie quarterbacks that are getting up to their deals. I'm not paying them. CJ Stroud.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, no, you're not paying these guys. I'm not paying for that. And then the the guys coming out of do it again, run it back with another guy. Right. The the quarterbacks coming out of college every year are gonna be less and less developed because of the amount of of transferring and the changing of that.
SPEAKER_00:So you can't do it anymore. Right.
SPEAKER_01:There's no like think about the the class this year. I mean, I mean, who's the the best QB coming out?
SPEAKER_00:It's a team game, so you can't just give one guy all that money when he he relies on everything unless unless he's that guy. So it but it's truck these agents are making it where it's I just don't understand.
SPEAKER_01:He's giving a guy you drafted as mystery relevant a quarter of a billion dollars. Brock Purdy hasn't even played.
SPEAKER_00:Brock Purdy, another one, another one. Goodness gracious, Tua, he's done. Yeah, Tua's done. Bryce Young, you're not winning there. You're not winning with uh Trevor Lawrence?
SPEAKER_01:No, no, it's done, man. You know, Dylan Gabriel? You you kidding me? I know he's a third-round pick, but like no, dude.
SPEAKER_00:I'm not paying any of these guys. No, not paying any of them.
SPEAKER_01:You're better off taking a couple of quarterbacks in mid-rounds every year.
SPEAKER_00:Take a rookie if you have a talent so you can get the rookie deal and get you a retread. Yep. Get you one of these guys that was drafted early that no one had a chance with. It's that's and just sign him, just save the money and get your sure up your O-line, sure up your your defense, skill positions, yep, and then make it easy for him. Yeah. And then don't pay him a bunch when he when he's up for signing. Sign him to a reasonable deal, and there you go. You can continue that. Because once you bro sign that deal, it breaks up all potential. Yeah, you can't help him anymore. So he better be worth it. Right. And he's not. There isn't. There, and there's not really any other.
SPEAKER_01:There isn't any quarterback in the league right now that could carry a team by themselves with no help. And even if, like you said, even if you say Mahomes, like, well, Mahomes five and four. And that's what, you know, so that's I don't know, man. It's crazy. Yeah. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_00:It's crazy, man. It's crazy, man. What are we gonna do?
SPEAKER_01:It's computers.
unknown:We had to go.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, we gotta go. I see the shuttle coming. Football's a dumb sport anyway.
SPEAKER_00:Well, we gotta get on out of here. I ride to it's time for who's Florida, Florida State. Tomorrow night. 7 p.m. SEC Network. Anxious to watch that one. First big test for Luke Laux.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah. Yeah, man. It uh see if they can keep up the scoring pace.
SPEAKER_00:Well, now that uh Brian Dayball's out in New York, add that to the team. Add that to the list of teams on Lane Kiff and Watch. Of course.
SPEAKER_01:Every open position is just another. What's you gonna do, Lane? It's another five million.
SPEAKER_00:I think I'd just stay still.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:To me. I mean, it depends on what you want.
SPEAKER_01:If it was me, like you want the NFL, this is your chance. Right. That that would be more appealing than moving somewhere else in the middle. Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, exactly. And this is if I go anywhere, I'm going to try that again. Right. When you say that money's not the problem, then go. Right. Because other than that, you're not gonna stay, you're not just gonna go for another college unless you think you can win somewhere else. But you already win at Old Miss. I know. So if you're gonna stay in college, I stay at Ole Miss. This is your chance. You got your quarterback. It's your guy. Yeah, that was your guy, man. You got him on a rookie deal. The defense for New York's not bad. No, it's not. They got weapons of neighbors going to.
SPEAKER_01:They got scatterboo, you'll have your draft, you're going to be.
SPEAKER_00:You'll have a backup. It's the biggest sign. You got Jameis as your backup. Right.
SPEAKER_01:It's not like the job you took with the Raiders.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I think that would be. I wouldn't be surprised if he took that, honestly.
SPEAKER_01:I wouldn't either. Why not? I mean, if it was me, I'd be intrigued by it. Screw college. Tired of recruiting these teams.
SPEAKER_00:Florida? Yeah, they're obviously going up their lane. I think Drinkowicz is gonna be their next guy. Yeah, it's gonna go more and more likely. In inside the SEC.
SPEAKER_01:What's that old that old incestual SEC coaching? Just gotta get some albums in there too. Oh yeah. Samford fired their coach, Chris Hatcher. Alright, well. That's one I want to watch Jimbo for. We'll watch it.
SPEAKER_00:And we'll read it. Palma Mater and his kids the kicker. And we'll talk to you next time, right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
SPEAKER_01:You gotta give us a shot. You know what?
