Football Monday: MVP Debates And Playoff Paths
Let me ask you one question The North Florida sporadis for the floor.
SPEAKER_01:You gotta give us a shot, you know what I do, the North Florida spot on Netflix It is welcome back.
SPEAKER_03:It is another football Monday. Not many left.
SPEAKER_05:It's a good Monday. It's a big Monday. No Florida State to watch. Thank you. Yeah, it feels good. It's two Mondays in a row, man. Feeling good.
SPEAKER_03:Oh why are you talking about that? Why not? You got a Heisman winner? Yes, we do. We got a runner-up that was disappointed about it. Tweeted F Indna. I'm gonna be honest with you.
SPEAKER_05:I'm gonna be honest with you. The biggest takeaway from all of that is there's no way that guy is 5'10. Are you kidding me?
SPEAKER_03:He might be shorter than Tommy. Well, Josh Allen, get the tables, man. Just when you think they're done. Down 21 to 0. He leads the Bills 5 straight.
SPEAKER_05:That's a joke, Job man.
SPEAKER_03:By the yeah, but I mean, dude, he scored five straight at this point. Josh Allen's I'm not saying by Drake May, I'm staying by that defense. But you gotta give him credit. Right, but you know who he is. No that you can get the players. Well the team lost to the Raiders, they've been overplaying themselves. I mean, they're still they're still in the two team. They're still in first place. So they had they lost the game at home to the best quarterback in football. Yeah, should have won it probably, but yeah, that's why you know. Yeah, the Broncos look like the number one team when uh when oh oh boy, he he doesn't he just I can see why Sean Payton likes him though, because Sean Payton can be him himself, just hungry, mean, and this guy that still doesn't care. He thrives under that pick it. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So I get it. He he's there when you need it, and he makes he may again make big time throws when the game mattered most. And the Broncos, when if he doesn't mess up with that defense, my god. Once Vance Joseph finally makes it out, Sir Tamman, finally figured out all we gotta do is play zone against Jordan Lowe. Well, their defense is legit, yeah. The offense is coming around and it's playing complimentary football. But they if you give them the one seed, yeah, which they with the boss, the pat Broncos, they have the best rush pass rush in in football. Right. With that secondary two, right? Good luck.
SPEAKER_05:Good luck. Yeah, they're gonna be tough.
SPEAKER_03:Trevor Burrus, God, if you had it's another another really good pass rush. If you picked him up in fantasy, he had a Josh Allenesque performance of just a few weeks ago, but it five six touchdowns accounted for. Right. He's playing. Liam Cohen. Well, I'm just saying, though, you watch him play looking more and more, just taking what's there, just not thinking too much. Do what we tell you, man. Right. This coach stop doing shit on your own. Do what we tell you, you'll be fine. And the defense, like you said, with the pass rush.
SPEAKER_05:Honestly, man, all those top picks are finally playing together between the Broncos, which is the Jags, and the James. And they play next week, man.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, those are the three best defenses in football. Right, right. And I think you have three quarterbacks right there. Who's gonna step up and play that game? Whose offense? And I'm telling you what, move of the year, it's well, you got on two receivers and in the NFC. It was the guy from New Orleans, Shahid going. Yeah, Shaheed. Really made a difference in Seattle. Yeah. And then um Jacoby Myers. Jacoby Myers in Jacksonville. God, they needed him. He's pretty much. This guy's a quarterback. He's quarterback, former quarterback. He needed this is what Lawrence needed. This is what they were expecting when he drafted Travis Hunter. Yeah, but they needed a veteran who can calm Lawrence down and be there when he needs it. And now everybody else can flourish. They look like a machine tootin', and then they running backs, three touchdowns out of the backfield. Right. Tootin and Etienne, man. Yeah, I mean, that's a yeah. Oh yeah. The Jags look for real. I can't wait for that game Sunday. It's gonna be a 405 game, but you got uh Jags going out to Denver. Yeah, that's gonna be a big one. It's gonna be a battle, man, physical. Again, we'll see. Nobody wants to watch the Jags play, but look at the wins they've had this year. They beat the Broncos, they've beaten everyone. Yep. Chiefs are done. Chiefs are done. Mahomes, man. You don't want to see that, but you know, it geez, man. It just ends and it goes out. It's funny how that happens. Yeah. So now he's a lot of questions now for that that organization. You got Kelsey's probably done. Jones is probably done. I mean, if he wants to come back, they're gonna let him come back. Andy, does Andy Reed want to keep coaching? Does he want to do another rebuild? Yeah. I know. Because you got Harbaugh and you got Peyton in your division now. Right. If I'm Andy Reed, I'm hanging it up. Yeah, you know what I got, Michael. Or I'm taking taking a few years off and doing another switcheroo. Right.
SPEAKER_05:Go back to the NFC. Yeah, I'm gonna go back. I'm gonna coach San Francisco once we get ready to get it.
SPEAKER_03:Go back to Dallas or something. Oh man, who knows?
SPEAKER_05:But sounds like Parsons is done.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, for the year. That's that's a big blow, man. It's a huge blow. Because that defense was huming. Yeah. And now the Bears, and I know it was against the Browns, but those conditions, it you can see why they never really had a quarterback flourish and why it's gonna take somebody with those kind of skill, that kind of skill set. That one play. Yeah. It's like a no, no, no, no, no. But then he throws it across his body to more. His escape ability is. If you look at the some of the replays, it's like, damn, well, I mean, those is that looks like one of those 2014 Jameis throws. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:You know, like but he does still have a bit of that, you know, like the throw in the end of the Green Bay game. But if you throw it high enough, though.
SPEAKER_03:That's that's the give and take. Yep. And you saw like that's and if they can get the team to come to Chicago in that defense, I know it was against the Browns, but Right.
SPEAKER_05:It I mean, dude, it's got seven games right now for that.
SPEAKER_03:Still got to play against Miles Garrett. Right. And uh the Bears now, that NFC North, it's gonna be decided Saturday night, it seems, in uh Soldier Field. Yeah. And you got two, you got two divisions, two of the biggest games in the NFC are gonna be decided on short weeks. And then the NFC West, I mean, goodness gracious. Right. The Seahawks coming back. The Seahawks and the Rams. Oh, grandpa Phil almost pulled it out yesterday. Yeah, dude. But just having this next game on Thursday, I there was probably some look ahead there. Yeah. Because they're hosting the Rams, who are the best team in the league right now. Yeah. But the Seahawks, they beat them, boom, they're in the one seed. Yep.
SPEAKER_05:But they still got to go through San Francisco. That's another home game they got, though.
SPEAKER_03:They get the Niners at home. The Niners are steadily winning right there on like so they'll have if they win out, they can get the one seed. Yeah. So it's right there. Do they have to play the Rams again? No. So they need the Seahawks to beat the Rams. They need Seahawks.
SPEAKER_05:Right. They got to win their next three. They got the Colts, Bears, and I think Seahawks.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, there you go. The Bears will be playing the Niners. The Bears got the Packers, Niners, and then I'd probably the Vikings to finish or something. I know they play the Vikings on Christmas or Yeah, something like that. No, that's the Lions play the Vikings. No, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man, I'll tell you what. Uh your MVP right now. I mean, I know Sean McVay really wants Stafford to get it. They call that play action down there. Right. I mean, dude, you're final running in. Jeez.
SPEAKER_05:His numbers, I mean, it's, you know.
SPEAKER_03:I mean, you could give it to Josh Allen. You could, but nobody wants to do that. I know. It's kind of you could give it to him, and I'm not going to argue it. I think I think honestly, this year, he deserves it more than he did last year. Well, I'm going to defend the thing.
SPEAKER_05:I'm going to say something right now, dude. If Miles Garrett breaks the sack record. Well, he's going to get defensive player this year. I don't care. You give him the MVP. I'm tired of this shit. No, they won't. He's on the team's so bad. So don't call it the MVP. Call it the best offensive player award. Right.
SPEAKER_03:Well, that's that's going to go to whoever the best running back is.
SPEAKER_05:Right. It's just so stupid, man. There's nobody that's more in the world. No, that's going to go Smith and Jigba.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Probably. Because another, you know, he's going to, he's a top receiver in the league. He's definitely winning rookie of the year.
SPEAKER_05:Right. Nobody is better at their job at their position than Miles Garrett is.
SPEAKER_03:Well, I mean, you see the not Lane Johnson out for the Eagles. You saw the numbers when he's in. Right. Well, you're never going to be given offensive. No, I know. I know. Just some positions, you're just not going to get it. That that's one. If they were on, if they were if they had any smell of the playoffs, then maybe. Right, right. Because you'd be like, dude, he's too high by the way. I agree with you. I agree with you, but I'm talking about just for get enough votes and actually see it happen. They're never going to give it to a guy that's stat stuffing on a losing team. Yeah. If it's anybody, it's going to be a quarterback. For me, I got it, you gotta give it to Stafford. It's gonna be Stafford. He's your favorite right now. But Josh Allen is gonna be right there. If they win out and he's doing it, what happens if the Seattle if Seattle beats Stafford? That's fine, dude. He still didn't lose to the Falcons. Right. Like, come on. That's gonna be a hell of a game. That sucks that it's on Thursday. Yeah. You know, but the it's a division game. These opponents know each other. We'll see, man. Hopefully uh Devontae Adams is healthy and uh Puka return.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, the Lions, dude, Lions were they gave the Rams their best shot.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, that was a great fan. I had fantasy guys all over the place. Yeah. And I just scored like 160 points. It was all I had the Lions receivers, and then I had Stafford. There you go.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Graham Pitts on the bench. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Ooh, God. Still one though, but we're getting semis. Yeah, that's I'm glad. That would have been an on you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05:Thank God Evan Ingram didn't do shit. That would have killed me.
SPEAKER_03:Dolphins Steelers tonight. Dolphins have like one percent chance. They're pretty much done. Uh so I mean the Steelers can really take the one game lead in the division. And what now? Perfect recipe for a Dolphins win. I know, right? Then you got Rams, Seahawks.
SPEAKER_05:Then you get into the college playoffs.
SPEAKER_03:Right.
SPEAKER_05:Friday, Oklahoma, Alabama, and then either one of us belong here, Bowl.
SPEAKER_03:Right? I'd rather have that. This should be a Notre Dame Vanderbilt. Right. I that would be a much funner.
SPEAKER_05:Especially after that little motherfucker running his mouth. I I want to see him Notre Dame Vanderbilt. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:I think that's that should have been the matchup. We this is gonna be so boring, but so if Oklahoma wins, Oklahoma's gonna win. There's still some thoughts injured, but we didn't want anybody to know about it. Right. Because they'll leave take him out. We'll take him out. They should have done regardless. Yeah. So yeah, like I got you got Miami playing Texas AM.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, noon on Saturday.
SPEAKER_03:I like Miami in that game.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. The other two aren't even really worth talking about.
SPEAKER_03:Right. Tulane and Madison.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:James Madison and Oregon. Yeah. Come on. There you go.
SPEAKER_05:Be sure and sleep through those. But who's going to Michigan, man? Alabama loses? Yeah. I know he came out and said he doesn't have an interest in any other jobs. But if Alabama loses to Oklahoma, this guy's back-to-back four lost seasons in Alabama. He's looking at the prospect of next year. You pretty much have to make a run in the playoffs to not have your ass on scorching hot seat. Or you can just go back north. Michigan? Billions of dollars. Young quarterback that just needs coaching. They're going to be way more relaxed, because hey man, you're not some you know, you didn't devise the cheating scandal.
SPEAKER_03:You're not out there just that could be already in the world.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. I mean, you know, the statement he released and all that, like, dude, of course not. Of course you gotta say something, but of course he's gonna say he doesn't want it. I think you're right. I think it'll be fish. But I'm glad that it's not gonna be Dillingham, hopefully. Yeah, I dude, I think that job's too big for him. I know that uh, you know, I'm a Dillingham fan, but with their year last year at Arizona State, I see a lot of the uh a lot of parallels with 2023 FSU and Mike Norvell.
SPEAKER_02:Just kind of catching a roster at lightning in about 2-10 this year.
SPEAKER_05:Right. Well he's in the Big 12, and he still had his quarterback.
SPEAKER_02:Well, there you go.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah. Instead he went eight and four. Won five or six conference wins by five points or less.
SPEAKER_02:Oh man, seems like a pretty good record.
SPEAKER_03:So Stafford, your MVP, Miles Garrett, your defensive player of the year. Smith and Jingba. Who's your coach of the year? There's a lot of a lot of guys for that one. You could give it to many coaches.
SPEAKER_04:I'm going Ben Johnson in Chicago. Sean Payton. What about Sean Payton?
SPEAKER_05:Why not? But yeah, but you got to be. Because there's a guy going to the playoffs with quarterback play in Chicago. Best player offense has been since 1976.
SPEAKER_03:You can't go wrong with either of those. I think the guy in Seattle, the winner of that game.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, that's true. He's done a really good job as well. Um and then Duball. Yeah. Come on, man. Cornball Liam. Tell you who it's not going to be Todd Bowles.
SPEAKER_03:I wouldn't argue with any of those guys except before you said Bowles. I wouldn't argue with any of those. Yeah. I'd be fine with him.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:And then don't forget about uh D'Amico. Yeah, and they were one and five. Right. That that's what they're quarterback out. That's why people are gonna forget about him. It's because of the shitty start. If they went out, I mean he I'm just saying, yeah, I put him in that thing too. If they went out, you know.
SPEAKER_05:You're right. There's several good candidates for that.
SPEAKER_03:I mean Shanahan, if they went out. I mean, he did it with a backup, but no, no, no. We're not gonna we're not gonna reward Kyle for that. Yeah. Or John Lynn.
SPEAKER_05:I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:No.
unknown:No.
SPEAKER_05:But there I think you're gonna get it's gonna be one of the first year head coaches.
SPEAKER_03:Or I don't know, man. Sean Payton might get it.
SPEAKER_05:I could see him doing that, but I think the one seed. Right, but how do you go against the guy in Jacksonville or against the guy in Chicago? Or Mike Brabell. Yeah, it's true. They were horrible last year.
SPEAKER_03:I think he's another guy. I can't believe we didn't say we should have said that earlier. He's an obvious choice. That was a big loss for them. If he would have won that game, he'd probably have been the favorite. Yeah. But Sean Payton is gotta be there, man. I mean, they're Oh, he's gotta be there.
SPEAKER_05:What are they won ten in a row? Yeah, I that'll probably you're probably right. I mean, it they'll just go by that.
SPEAKER_03:Doing it with a young quarterback? Yeah. Look how bad the quarterbacks look, but look he kept the team together, he drafted his responsibility. I mean, you can overlook it. But but I wouldn't argue with any of that. Because you got a Jacksonville coach who's changed the changed around the franchise.
SPEAKER_05:Yeah, one first year.
SPEAKER_03:Yep. And I I wouldn't argue with that at all. So but we'll see, because this is it's gonna matter how it ends. Because the matchups right now you have Liam Cohen versus Sean Payton. Right. So there you go for coach of the year. They'll match up against each other. Shrek. Some really good matchups. Shrat. Yeah. Really good matchups. Oh man, what's that? Dude.
SPEAKER_01:We gotta shut up.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, we gotta get on out of here. Before we go, like you said, we got playoffs and picks coming up. Yeah. So we'll get uh preview the playoffs and we'll pick all the playoff matchups as well as the big NFL games. And it doesn't get any bigger than the one Thursday night. Maybe we'll have some portal talk. Yeah, just DJ Lagway. To the transfer portal.
SPEAKER_05:Yep. See where they'll go. See what kind of hot garbage Florida State picks up by then. Yep. If anybody. Portal combat. Portal combat. Know where that is. We're gonna be we're gonna be shopping at the five or less this year for portal players. What is it, five or below? I don't even know what the name of that shit is. Hoops, hoops, it's awful.
SPEAKER_03:Giving up 100 points to UMass, Frank Martin.
SPEAKER_05:At this point, if you don't save 100 points against Florida State, they're not paying the teachers enough.
SPEAKER_03:Right. For Frank Martin would take it after a college basketball game in Florida.
SPEAKER_05:You know what? They're not paying their teachers enough. Save the will. Save the whales. I shave my head now. Got Dayton tomorrow. That's another loss. It's gonna be gross.
SPEAKER_06:Luckily, they got really good breakfast food right across the street at Butter Cafe.
SPEAKER_05:Stay open till 2 a.m. Anybody going up there for that one? Really, really good stuff.
SPEAKER_03:I wish that game Thursday night was Sunday. Yeah, but I mean, what are you gonna do? What are you liking that?
SPEAKER_05:Because the Well, I hate both teams, but I I I do think the Rams will end up winning. They're my Super Bowl pick.
SPEAKER_03:I don't know, man. I I in the first game, it looked like Seattle outplayed them the long time. Because of key turnovers. But you know, that's part of it.
SPEAKER_05:Right. And I mean, we saw yesterday, Darnold, he's had a great season.
SPEAKER_03:He's done, you know, resurrected his career, but he's still at the end of the year, though, he kind of when the he's always turned into a pumpkin.
SPEAKER_01:Right.
SPEAKER_03:He did it at the end of last year. Will he do it again? Against this Rams team. Well, he'll be at home. And he'll have Smith and Jacoba and Rasheed. And I think he's a better team around him with a good defense in the home. So huge game that night. We got a playoffs. Fairs, packers, Saturday night. Right. We'll watch them all. Phillip Rivers. We're gonna pick them all and we'll react to some. And we'll talk to you next time, right here, on the North Florida Sports Network.
SPEAKER_01:You gotta give us a shot! You know what you
