Setting The Stage In Miami

SPEAKER_00

Let me ask you one question.

Betting Lines And Underdog Energy

SPEAKER_02

The North Florida is a big thing. You gotta get a lot of things. And one of them is Miami. Got Miami contributor Justin here. We're gonna preview the tactile championship between Indiana and Miami. Monday night in Miami. It's a big game.

SPEAKER_01

The games are actually gonna be wearing their own white for the game. Oh yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. They're the lower speed. So they're gonna be wearing the that stupid combo that they like to call Stormtrooper or whatever.

SPEAKER_00

Yep, all white, baby.

SPEAKER_02

It's been working for them. I wouldn't I wouldn't want to wear anything else if I was them.

SPEAKER_01

I I might just retire every other uniform combo.

SPEAKER_02

You gotta go with what's working. Indiana is now what, like nine points? Let me check it. But what do you think, man? What's your gut feeling?

SPEAKER_01

Gut feeling? Miami wins, of course.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah?

Ohio State As The Measuring Stick

SPEAKER_01

There's a lot that's gonna go into that. Uh Miami actually winning. Like, I actually one of the things that I think is working in Miami's favor, um, with all the like surrounding noise of the game, is the fact that they are nine points underdogs.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it's down to seven and a half. Yeah, I think it's because of all that. And people starting to realize that it's just one game and Indiana is a great team. They're well coached, and they had familiarity. But if you look at a one common opponent for me, it's Ohio State. They both played them pretty close together in time, one in the Big Ten championship, one in the playoff. And they both won, but Ohio State missed a chip shot. And Indiana loses that game. I mean, Miami beat Ohio State pretty handily. And then, you know, so that that shows me right there it's gonna be there's no it's gonna be a physical war, and it's whoever makes a mistake. You know, is Mendoza gonna make that type of pick Ohio State did with a pick six. I mean, I feel like that was that game. That was ballgame. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, absolutely, dude.

SPEAKER_02

That's that's what kind of game it's gonna be like. So they're not gonna come out and do what they did to Miami to or like what they did to Oregon. I think they already knew how to beat Oregon. That game was already decided. This is gonna be a war. You have Miami with that defense and what like the best friends are coaches for both teams, the DC at Miami and the DC at Indiana.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, and Mendoza's dad played high school football.

SPEAKER_02

So much little like familiarities here. This is gonna be there's no there's not gonna really any sneaking up on anybody. Everyone's gonna be prepared. Um and then it's gonna come down to who makes the big plays. Oh man, this sucks. Because I think like Miami's gonna win. I feel like I I feel exactly why this spread's coming down a little bit is people are starting to realize, you know, I'm gonna take the points.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, oh yeah, no. I mean, you I I think you'd be a fool to not take the point uh just on a straight up gambling uh perspective. I mean the game opened up at like five, five and a half, and then so much money came pouring in on Indiana, that's what pushed the spread all the way up to eight and a half, nine points.

How Miami Should Defend Mendoza

SPEAKER_02

And and be yeah, they just it's the way they won that that game against Oregon. I mean, they just dominated them. So that's just gonna bring I mean anybody but that's the sport that happens. I mean, you see that in every sport. And if you come out and you dominate, it's gonna be like, oh my god. Look at this powerhouse. But you have to look at it, you have to look closer than that. And I that's what I I mean what the first thing I looked at was Ohio State game for both teams. I I think that's a good judgment of where to what kind of game this is gonna be, and I feel like it's gonna be that kind of game. No one's gonna get away from either team, and it's gonna come down to who makes the mistake.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, that's exactly what it is, because I mean, if if you look back at the uh the old miss game, yeah, uh if Miami doesn't shoot themselves in the foot over and over that game, it's a blowout.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, drop dropped interceptions, free snap penalties, yeah, and then a bunch of things get that game close. Yeah. And they we gotta we gotta do a similar, it's gotta be a similar strategy uh in this game too, because you gotta keep the ball out of Mendoza's hands. Um because I mean the kid, he he's a really good player. They've got the NFL body of the wide receiver. He loves those damn back shoulder throws that are like indefensible almost. I mean, he he he just kills people with those back shoulder throws. And we just can't let him get comfortable. There's actually a imagine on the D-line where in Indiana you're you're gonna have to feel around because uh the Indiana great factors are given up 14 characters a year. And just overwhelm that one week fight.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

And just overload it with the best players and go after that one week fight. And you give Mendoza shook. I mean, he needed a miracle to beat 10 state. Right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, I mean this guy lost to this guy lost to Florida State last year.

SPEAKER_01

Mendoza lost to Miami last year, too, in that miracle comeback that Cam Ward had in the fourth quarter.

Culture Vs Money: The NIL Rant

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that was a shootout. He was able to put some points on the board for a Cal team, but uh you can get pressure on him, and he doesn't have the escapability that a Trinidad has. So I think in that regard it's gonna be on if Miami's offense can make anything happen, I think it's gonna be low scoring. And but I I I think Miami's gonna win. I really do. And I hate it. I absolutely hate it. I love it. Yeah, I know. They can't even get to the damn ACC championship. Don't need to. Don't need to waste the time.

SPEAKER_01

We don't hang conference championship banners, dude. We hang nattties.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Well, you can't because you don't have one, but uh, we got five.

SPEAKER_01

Not in the ACC.

SPEAKER_02

Zero.

SPEAKER_01

Well, we're about to have one. We'll we'll have that natty banner hanging without an appearance. Without the ACC.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, well, um Alright, so what how did what happens if Miami loses this game?

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, it's gonna be heartbreaking, but I mean, my god, it's still if Miami does lose, um, I mean, it's still a hell of a season for Crystal Ball in the game, man. And it just it just sets up moving forward to Crystal Ball to just be rolling in NFL guy after NFL guy. He's definitely got the the Miami culture building there very strongly.

SPEAKER_02

I think both these teams are on the rise. I think both these teams, you look at the look at both of them, what they're doing. They're going out and getting the best recruit best transfer portals, and they got the backers financially, and they got the right coaches in place to get the recruits there. And who knows, man? You might see it again.

SPEAKER_01

You can already see it with Miami, the uh the old Miami culture, you know, like Michael Irvin and all the old guys always talk about. Um Mark Fletcher already announced he's coming back for his senior year and was out on the recruiting trail with Crystal Ball after the Texas AM game. Like that's the kind of culture that Miami's got going right now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and they need money too. Because that's all that matters. Yeah, they don't fucking co don't give me that shit. Don't give me that culture. Nobody's going there for that. They're going there for money. Hey man. Oh yeah, you want to come here for culture? No, here's six and a half million. Get the fuck out of here. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna hear that shit. I'm not gonna hear that shit.

SPEAKER_01

Why was the Duke quarterback? Why was the Duke quarterback at Duke in the first place? For money.

SPEAKER_02

Money. I know, that's what I'm saying. That's what it is. So it's not you have money now. You have money and you've all ever been. That's all it's ever been, exactly. So it's not this culture. Uh, oh man, I'm going there.

unknown

Bobby.

SPEAKER_01

The culture at Florida State had had nothing to do with it. It was because of the booster money.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. Well, at least it was behind the table, and you could at least not know about it. And there were some sort of rules.

SPEAKER_01

Unless you worked at Dilly.

SPEAKER_02

Well, my yeah, Miami wasn't doing any of that either.

SPEAKER_01

Everybody always was.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. Let's let's get out of here. Peter Ward's finally in the call hall of fame because he got free clothes from the mall. Are you kidding me? I mean, we're just giving these kids six and a half million now. And and and now that it's all free on the table, you see where the money who has the money. Miami does. It's always been that way. We can just give you t-shirts. Don't give me that shit. We don't have culture. That's all we had.

SPEAKER_01

It was all for the money.

SPEAKER_02

It was all for the money. All right, this is it.

SPEAKER_01

It was all for the money. You got any more, you got anything else? There is no Miami culture. They only made two documentaries about the Miami culture, but yeah, no culture.

Keys To First Score And Game Flow

SPEAKER_02

Well, culture, yes. A culture of that. Kicking ass and taking names. Yeah, yeah. Good. Yes, getting the best players. It requires the culture of, you know, it's Miami. I mean, they were good. I'm not trying to downplay it. Yeah, that does matter, but it I'm just saying it doesn't matter any. There's no team that's getting it because of that. They have to have money. You have to have money. This is a this is professional sports. And no one's gonna go there and be like, oh man, I'm gonna take like less money because did you see Michael Irvin coked up on the sideline? I want to be a part of that.

SPEAKER_01

No, but if all things are even.

SPEAKER_02

Well, they're not. All things aren't even because you don't have a you don't have a salary cap. You can literally wait to the last minute of the transfer portal and just they can't match this deal because I'm just gonna go higher and higher. But enjoy the championship, buddy.

SPEAKER_00

How'd that work out for Jaden Roshada? Shuttle.

SPEAKER_02

We gotta get on out of here. Right here. Shuttle to nowhere.

SPEAKER_01

Suttling, settling down, settling down to Miami Garden.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Big game tomorrow. Come on, Hoosers. Gotta get this win. But all uh Carson back, can they get to him? He he can you know throw it away.

SPEAKER_01

And he has been, really, throughout the whole playoffs. I've been waiting for him to make that typical Carson Beck mistake, and he he hasn't yet. So that does kind of scare me.

SPEAKER_02

Right. We'll find out who does.

SPEAKER_01

It's like Crystal Ball hasn't crystal balled yet. So I mean you got to get away. Yeah, he hasn't. That's true. And you're waiting on Beck to do a Beck, man. I mean, like both things are very plausible in this game. And my God, would that be the most Miami shit ever?

SPEAKER_02

You gotta get up on Miami. Don't let him play from they've been playing with the lead. Let's see. And if I'm Indiana, get up, get the lead. Get the lead, make, make Carson Babe. All right, we've got to get back. Let's go. That's when the mistakes come. He hasn't had to do that. He's always been like, well, we're winning. I don't have to do this. I got my defenses rolling, and that's gonna be the difference. Who's gonna come out and score first? Is I think really gonna matter.

NFL Playoffs Parallels And Closing

SPEAKER_00

You don't want Mark Fledger. Mark Fledger, Mark Pledger, Mark Fledger. Yeah. All day long.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they should run the ball over and over again.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's all I do. I would be full-on crystal ball on this, dude, and I would just run it, run it, run it, run it, and even when they stop it, run it some more.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Oh boy. One game left in the college football season. We're in the middle of the NFL divisional round. The Niners got the but he turned the ball over four times. You know. He's no one to blame but himself for that one.

SPEAKER_01

I feel like the fumble at the end of the half was just.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's just too many mistakes. Can't beat a good team with too many mistakes. If he would have done that, if he would have made one of those mistakes against Jacksonville, they'd have lost. So you can't do that. We got a bunch of those games and the national championship. We'll react to it and we'll talk to you next time, right here on the North Florida Sports Network. You gotta give us a shot. You know what?
