SPEAKER_02The North Florida sport North Florida Sport North Florida the North Florida Sports. You gotta give us a job!
SPEAKER_00You know what you're doing!
SPEAKER_02Well the North Florida Sports Network FS2 ends the regular season with a 10 and 8 ACC record. As predicted here, they would not win one game.
SPEAKER_01Who said that?
SPEAKER_02Credible. Not one, but ten. What a fun team. And just, you know, it's probably not gonna haven't. I went to the game today. It was great atmosphere, you know. Not a sellout, but everybody wasn't a sellout anyway. But man, I'm telling you what, man, you got something cooking here. And I think you got the right guy at the home. And I think FSU fans need to really get behind this basketball team.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
Why Basketball Is The Better Investment
ACC Strength And Year-To-Year Chaos
SPEAKER_02Screw football. I mean, just based on the way the landscape is, the way how much money you have to have in football to be able to compete. You don't need as much in basketball to be able to compete. You just need the right guy. And a little bit of like mulah. Because you only have five spots. In football, you got to spread across. You got LSU making 48 million this year on their roster. So why not invest in something that's fun? It was fun to see this team that was 0-5 in the ACC and now finish 10-8, 17-14 overall. A winning season. They're gonna go play in a postseason tournament. It's pretty incredible. And it's it's one of those teams that I bet if you ask Coach Luke that he's always gonna have a soft spot for because this is his first team. Right. And they were counted out, and just the I've really enjoyed watching this team fight. Pick 15th going into the season. And uh Pat Kennedy's team, 91-92, five ACC road games. Who would have thought that this team, that Luke's lack Luke Lauk's first team, would be the one to match that record of five consecutive road games. They didn't they didn't piss on that. They won in easily in this game to finish the regular season 10 and 8 in the ACC. And an ACC that is a lot better than it has been in the last few years. Yeah. I think the ACC's better than the SCC in basketball this year. I would agree. I think that it's in basketball, especially, it's year to year. Like you really, you can't, you really can't judge anything of the previous year because so many teams are gonna have the whole roster floating. Yeah. Yeah. And it's such a you only have five spots. So in basketball this season, it's hard to have projections and it's hard to like who they're going off numbers and kind of system like things they have in the past because the eyeball test right now tells me I don't want to play this Florida State team. And there's teams that are gonna get in the tournament that are losing to Georgia Tech at home. You know? Yeah. And I I like the direction that FSU's going. What do you think there, Jimmy?
SPEAKER_01I wish that a couple of games had gone differently. Wake Forest, Florida. You may be talking about a team that's on the bubble.
Bubble Talk And What-If Games
SPEAKER_02But you know, I think if honestly, if you really think about it, if just say they win the Florida game. They hit a three at the end, they win at Florida with the same record, they're probably on the bubble. Yeah. I mean, because then they're 18 and 13, and then they have probably the best win in the country. Yeah, I mean, I but but but that to just to the fact that we're having these conversations, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You're you finished seven spots higher in the ACC than you were picked.
SPEAKER_02It's exciting to see the it almost like it was like it clicked for Coach Laux. He was coming in this headstrong, right? He was coming in this, like, hey, uh, this is my territory. I'm coming here to win. We're gonna do it this style. I've been out in Golden State, I'm gonna do it this way. And it and it was like, oh yeah, you just gave up 113 points at home to NC State. Right, you're gonna have to play defense, yeah. And and and he did what he had to do, and this team is doing what they had to do, and then it's so much fun to watch for me, and uh, and I'll remember it no matter what happens, no matter where they finish. And I think it's gonna be the NIT. I mean, but who knows? Go to Charlotte, win the damn tournament. Who knows? Yeah, you still got the conference tournament. I love the uh I love the contributions tonight, in particular from a few guys that weren't relied upon at all. Shah Muhammad. Yeah. He came in early on he started the momentum of the game. Yeah. With the with the finish, with the Aliyo dunk and one, right the first possession he was there. He started the momentum.
SPEAKER_01Away from there, man. Chauncey Wiggins, what do you have?
Coach Laux’s Pivot To Defense
SPEAKER_0231, 33, to have guys that don't play be able to come in and contribute shows buy-in. Yeah. That shows buy-in more than anything there is. Because that that's proof and like there's nothing to show that that guy was gonna play. He hadn't been playing at all. And he came in and executed. That shows that that shows that the team they're buying in to what the coaches speak in. I like the direction they're going. You look at the recruiting that that's going on right now with Luke. Number eight class in the country. And uh people are buying in, and they should. And you should support this team, and it's an electric atmosphere, even when it's what, 70% full like it was today. Yeah, it's still you feel a buzz. And when it's when it's a hundred percent packed, it's it's one of the most special places in the country. It's a tough place to play, man. And the Knolls finish out the year 17-14, 10 and 8 in the conference. They will get probably based on a lot of losses, and they're gonna be eight or nine or nine, they're gonna probably play Cal. Right. And they'll be playing Duke if they if they why not bring it. Bring it. Yeah, fuck it. Bring it. Make people have to put you in. You know, what if you upset Duke and then don't win the championship? I just I mean, you're in it most likely. If anybody's been watching if you watch enough basketball right now, if you looked at Clemson and you looked at Florida State, I would if you were anybody, you'd be like, oh my god, I'd rather play Clemson. Yeah. I mean, it's just this team's seems to be on the upside, right?
SPEAKER_01Right, you don't want to play Florida State right now.
SPEAKER_02So I'm looking forward to an NIT bit, honestly. I I was saying that last year as a goal, and this year it feels like just cherry on top. And on honestly, because you were you just worked at the fundamentals, you wanted to get better, and you did. You tried it one way, and just the turnaround showed that you had the humility to look yourself in the mirror. Shows the players, you know what? I gotta do whatever I gotta do for this guy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02This guy, you know, I I and and that was that was big, and this is a big turning point. They've been a different team, and uh I it's been fun to watch.
Role Players Proving Buy-In
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they I think they definitely have the right guy.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, you look at other coaches right now. I mean, Florida's got the right guy, Miami's got the right guy too. Florida looks in basketball like it used to in football in the 90s, right now. In terms of just I mean, right now, all programs are on the rise. I mean, Florida just won the national championship. They look like they're favorites to do it again. Miami is gonna make a tough loss today. They took a tough loss today, but they're gonna make the tournament. They got a young coach. Lauchs has turned them around. He's in the NIT USF. They're gonna make the tournament. UCF's gonna make the tournament. People want to go to Florida.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, state state of basketball in Florida is.
SPEAKER_02State of basketball is really changed on it. You know, um where are you gonna go for that one or two years? I mean if I can go here, it's in it's just it's just all different. But it was a big it was a big win today. Um ten and eight, man. Ten and eight in the ACC. And uh and a good after an 0-5 start. And you're talking about a team that set a record with five consecutive road wins that Leonard Hamilton never did. Right. And he's hanging up in the Raptors, okay?
SPEAKER_01And I I love it. Like, after 0-5 start, you went 10-3. Yeah, this is that you this is really good.
SPEAKER_02And it's get on board, man. Let's get on board, man. Yeah, we got the class coming in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Make the next play. I mean, there was play and it was fun to see this team just buy in. Like, even in the first half, excellent boxing out was done. But you know, some of the guys are just too tall. Right. I mean, the guys just but you just loved you could see the execution there. You made SMU work. It didn't get the result, but it was like, damn, you could see him boxing out, and it would just bounce to him. And you made you made keep doing that, and you're gonna be alright.
SPEAKER_01And you you ended up and that's what they've been doing. You ended up fouling him out. That that's the thing. You made the SMU big guy work and he had to foul out.
SPEAKER_02Right. Because something like he's gonna be taller than you sometimes because the ball's gonna go right to you. Right.
Recruiting Momentum And Atmosphere
SPEAKER_01Well, well, that's and that's the thing. That that's that's on Laux, is is all right, so they they clearly want to use him offensively. So we're gonna go when we have the ball and we're gonna go at him and make him commit fouls. He got tired. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because like he had a couple shots where in the game where you're like, why aren't they doing this every time? It's because he's got to do it on the defensive side. Exactly. He got tired. It was a good good game plan.
SPEAKER_01And I will say, like, Boopy Miller for SMU, like that that kid can play.
SPEAKER_02He's got it, he's got a quick hand.
SPEAKER_01I think he had 28, 30, 31, something like that. Well, they're you know, him and Robert McCrae, both from Wake Forest, familiar with each other.
SPEAKER_02Laux was involved with the I the extra clapping. I saw I saw he had to get held back by one of those. This was a heated game.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I just love it.
Seeding Scenarios And Bring On Duke
SPEAKER_02This is Andy Enfield, Andy Enfield. That's another thing. I want Laux to be his own. And we got it, and you gotta he's a guy who's involved and wants to talk to the officials, and I freaking am here for it. You gotta remember I am here for it. You know who wasn't Leonard. He was not, and I and I and times I was be like, come on, man. Every time he would it would like fluster and it would grow on him, and he would just but if you just let it out when it happens, he'd pick and choose. You don't have to go crazy, coach. I I I think you should let it out as it happens. I love how he's doing it. You have to keep on the officials, man. Everyone's human, and you're you're the representative for this team, right? And these guys have stake into what happens to your team, right? So why not? Why not let them have it? And I love seeing it. I love seeing it in Laux. That's the number honestly, that's probably my number one thing that I that that I'm happy about him. Because when you come to like the head coach, that's what it that's the kind of stuff it is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you gotta work the officials.
SPEAKER_02You have to. It's like extracurricular.
SPEAKER_01It's part of the game. Yeah, yeah. I don't think I said that right. I mean, it it it goes hand in hand. All the best coaches are guys that work the officials. I mean, you I mean, even Tom Izzo, his old ass, even still is you know, that's how he gets by. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, um, no matter what happens, 17 and 14, 10 and 8 on your first year is something uh be very proud of.
SPEAKER_01You well, yeah. Everyone on this finish 7, 8, 9 special day for picked 15th preseason.
SPEAKER_02These guys, these guys will be remembered. Yeah. And because I think what's in the future is gonna be even greater, and they know that. And people are gonna be like, where did it start? And it they're gonna look back at that 0-5 start in the conference, that win at Miami, you know, and that loss at SMU by three, and just just the different attitude and the preparation and what it takes to win. And it's been it's been a pleasure to watch, and I believe in them, and I want to see it grow. I want to see him win. Make a run in the NRT. Yeah, why not? Make a run in the NCAA, win the ACC. Why not? Sure. I mean, I mean, that's what you gotta go for. Yeah, yeah. That's what you play for. And if they're if they're better than you, and they're like I said, like it, like we said earlier, when when they were boxing out perfectly and the guy got it, if that's what happens, shit. Yeah, what happens, what happens. But I loved watching these guys play. I've loved, I've loved watching the buy-in.
Coaching Edge And Working Officials
SPEAKER_01It's been fun to watch. Yeah, man. I had them winning no games in the conference. After the 0 and five starts, like, dude, these guys aren't winning shit. They're not winning shit. And here we are, 10 and 8. That's what I'm saying, man. Finishing eight spots better than all the experts expected.
SPEAKER_02It's a credit to the staff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, staff, players, everybody involved. And that even the chick you spilled beer on, everybody involved.
SPEAKER_02Oh, see, see.
SPEAKER_01See, you see, you see there, you see, unnecessary, bro. Unnecessary. It wasn't my fault. It was the usher's fault. It got in my way. It got in my way.
SPEAKER_00You're fire! Yeah.
SPEAKER_01If the redheads out there, we are.
SPEAKER_02How about the U.S., man? And the hockey. Right? We haven't talked about that. Gold medals and the women and the men. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's good, good guy. I like curling. It's my sport. I love curling. Yeah. I like to watch it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I never thought I would love it as much as I did. But curling is it's something I want to give a shot to. I want to try.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't look easy.
SPEAKER_02No, I mean, it takes skill.
SPEAKER_01You gotta get out there and clean. Over and over again. You gotta clean that shit. You gotta jerk it. Jerk it. Clean it. Clean. Clean!
SPEAKER_00You had to go. All right, we're here.
SPEAKER_01Shuttle.
SPEAKER_00Shuttle.
Legacy Of A First-Year Turnaround
SPEAKER_01Well, we gotta get on out of here. Miles Bailey with his fifth home run. This is a little bit more. Well, there you go. FSU is they won't run ruled them. They run ruled them. It's over. We'll see, man. We're getting into conference play. We've got Florida on Tuesday.
SPEAKER_02That's a sport right there, FSU baseball. It's gonna be a season. Just like I know, but I don't. For me, it's just like I pay attention at the end. Yeah. And that's when all like the cursing. And I just want to see this team go out and win. But that's not how it works. You gotta play the games on the schedule.
SPEAKER_01Such trash.
SPEAKER_02But what what do you think so far early on in the season, Jimmy?
SPEAKER_01I think that you got a bunch of good kids that are all in their second year playing big time baseball. So it might not happen this year. I hope.
SPEAKER_02How about we change this?
SPEAKER_01What is the potential of this ball club? Potential?
SPEAKER_02Now what is what could this team do?
SPEAKER_01I mean, there's definitely potential to make Omaha, but you know, it it's you know.
SPEAKER_02I'll tell you right now, you took that team that they had years ago, right? I'm part of the blue that call gets 16. It's gonna be the FSU!
SPEAKER_01I'll never get over that.
SPEAKER_02You gotta get to Omaha. Alright?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You gotta be positive and you gotta It's baseball.
Quick Detour To Hockey And Curling
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's that's the thing, it's baseball. They got some good fresh. No, they got some good freshman. They do Miles Bailey. They can hit it a million miles.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be this season will be just around the team. And how good they are in the lineup, and how good they are as a staff throughout the game. And up and down the lineup is based throughout the game. Exactly though. It's baseball. And we'll watch we'll react to it. And we'll watch some basketball and see how this all plays out. And we'll react to the selection show and all the placements and all the postseason tournaments right here on the North Florida Stone.
