The Upset That Almost Happened

In the midst of a legendary World Cup, we almost saw the biggest upset in World Cup history. As Capardi took Argentina to the limits of extra time only to fall short free-to-do. But inspiring a nation that if you believe you can accomplish anything. As it is one of the great venues in tennis and in all sports, but every sport fails in comparison to what is the greatest event in the world.

Why The World Cup Is No. 1

That is the 2026 World Cup. 100 almost 100 years ago when the founders decided that we're gonna take this tournament and we're gonna leave the Olympics and we're gonna make this the same model. Every four years, we're just gonna play sucker with the best in the world. And I think it's the greatest event in all of sports. Greater than the Olympics, greater than the Super Bowl, greater than the March Madness Tournament. I am a believer. Now, what will happen after this four years is up, we'll see. But there's no doubt in my mind that the World Cup is number one in all of sports. And far as far as impact globally and interest globally. Because if you're not paying attention, what are you doing? You're missing out on what is the greatest sport sporting event of our era. I can say that as somebody who didn't really believe it. Every single nation and all the traditions, it is an absolute joy to watch. It's a celebration of humanity, honestly. You want to get real cheesy about it. And and you can't match it.

Football vs Soccer Naming Fight

In fact, what are we doing calling American football football? You know, come on. I mean, what are we doing there? You got a sport that where one guy uses their foot and everybody on the team mocks him and says he's not a real football player. In fact, he's the only football player. There's nobody that uses their feet. Quarterback, the most important position in the sport, football, as everybody in America likes to call it. When does a quarterback use his feet? When does a running back use his feet? When does a receiver catch the ball with his feet? And I you know the president actually said this, and I agree with him. We gotta come up with a better name. So let's just get rid of football. Football is soccer. Soccer is a stupid name that America invented because of I don't know. That's a whole nother show. And that's just to go with the metric system, drive it on the other side of the road. I mean, you can go a lot of there's, but I don't want to do it anymore in sports. What are we doing? As you can see, the world is football because the whole sport is relying on your feet. You can't touch the ball with your hands. I mean, come on. We gotta come up with a better name for American football or football. Look at me, I'm already calling it American football. It's not football. It's not it's not rugby, but that's closer. Maybe rugby was already taken. So shout out to my daughter who said who suggested tackleball. Which isn't bad. I like that. Because you have to implement some sort of physicality in this game. But France moves on as expected. Today was a little bit of a s snoozer. The first day of the whole World Cup that wasn't still on the high of last night's game in Miami, where Argentina was pulled to the brink, which would have been the biggest upset in knockout stage of the World Cup if kept Cape Verde the tying goal in extra time to equalize it at two was first of all. The broadcast of Fox was great. It was unbelievable, and it was a goal that dreams are made of. It really was. The it was just a bender. There's no block in that of a storybook. But Argentina pulled that off, and they they did what they had to do. Every time they scored, Cap Verde answered, they scored again. And sometimes the ugly wins, they didn't even really celebrate that. It was just like a relief. That night we'll be remembered for Cape Verde and what they did. Um, it just was just another example how great, how beautiful game what a beautiful game this is. And it's just kind of you can't really commercialize this game, and they're trying to with the hydration breaks. I mean, football's great in America is because there's four quarters, there's two minute warnings, there's three timeouts, there's change of possession. So there's so many ways you can commercialize it and make it a marketable game. But you can see what football, what the real football really is by just watching what it means to these people that are coming to your country to watch their country play this game that they call football. That you call soccer. So we gotta stop that. If we have a good team now, we're really trying to be you know, respected in the game. We need to stop this soccer talk and just call it football. I think that would do a lot as far as just the soccer snob, the Euro, thinking that the US does they don't want the US winning this, not respecting the game. But if we came out and said, hey, we're not calling it soccer anymore, we're demolishing that name and we're calling it football. I think that would do a that would go a long way.

Can You Even Commercialize Football

But we got the round of 16 underway. Canada was beat today by Morocco. Um they were the better team. Three's 3-0 doesn't pretty much I mean it was a little bit closer than that. But watching Canada, watching Australia play, it reminds me of watching previous World Cups with the US. It's just kind of grinding your teeth, hoping that you can score. And we never not anymore for the US. Not meaning that we're gonna that they're gonna win, but they are the aggressor. They have talent and skill that like they've never had before. They take on Belgium Monday night, Mexico takes on England Sunday night. It is crunch time in the World Cup. Oklahoma won the World College World Series. Wimbledon's underway, but like I said, to start the show, everything pales in comparison to this World Cup, as it is the greatest sporting event I've ever witnessed in my life. And it's pretty impressive. I've been to some great sporting events, I've seen some phenomenal sporting events. Yeah. I'm sold.

But before we go, we gotta catch up with old Jimmy Reno about that sport that we all like to track on an annual basis. Wow, just annual. You look at it like the World Cup, not a big deal. Just a yo. It's lost one year. Not that big deal. We'll catch up. We'll start to go over some rosters. College football is upon us. I'm just waiting for a college basketball season. Not gonna lie. Cause I'll tell you right now, who's gonna be good? Miami's gonna be good. Yep. Indiana's still gonna be good. Yep, that's right. Oregon's gonna be good. Ohio State's gonna be good. Michigan's gonna be good. Georgia's gonna be good. And that's it! Maybe some other ones. We'll see how Wayne Kiffin does at LSU in the whole sports. A damn wild card show where you can pay the players whatever the hell you want and whatever the hell they desire. Because there are no rules. It is a goddamn Wild Wild West shootout. So get your money. Or tell everybody that you're not taking a salary, Mario Crystal. When you have a billionaire friend that's donating to the program, hey, hey, I'm not gonna take a salary.
