SPEAKER_01The North Florida sports North Florida sports Florida the North Florida sports networks.
SPEAKER_02You gotta give us a shot.
SPEAKER_03You know what you the North Florida Sports Network Network Football Tuesday Baseball Monday Baseball Tuesday Monday Football. Yeah, we're back. It's a football Monday on a Tuesday. Back for the first time. And the instant reaction. Baseball. Didn't have any techno. Playoffs. Baseball. Yes. We just got done watching the Atlanta Braves. Oh man. Austin Riley with the clutch. Two out, bottom of the eight, three-run homer to take a five to three lead against the hated Phillies. The guy that you year.
SPEAKER_04The guy that you even said. You got to make up for your shit year, buddy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, called it. I mean, but if you look at it, this is a guy, this is what the beauty of baseball is.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah. I mean, if you look at it, if there's one guy that could do it if somebody throws a fastball right down the middle.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. After JT Ryamoto, the same thing with him, threw a fastball right down the middle, and he hit a triple. Ocunia couldn't field it. The Phillies had two runs that scored in the seventh. And then the Phillies brought out their closer in the seventh. And they got through an easy seventh, and they brought him out in the eighth. Two outs in the bottom of the eighth, and he gives up a three-run bottom. Austin Riley, he walked, he hit Ozzie Albys. Wow. That was awesome. Quite a game. We were gonna do this earlier and talk football, but baseball. Baseball forever. Baseball forever. Baseball tonight, baseball forever. But big win for the Braves. They'll play again tomorrow. And they could they could still lose. Right, right. Right, Cece. Right.
College Football Standouts And Concerns
SPEAKER_03But football was big this last weekend. I mean, where do you start? NFL, college, a lot of a lot of things. I'll start with college. All right, let's go to college because that happened first. What's the first thing that stood out?
SPEAKER_04Oh man, unfortunately, what stood out Buster Faulkner's offense in Gainesville looks really good.
SPEAKER_03Great call there.
SPEAKER_04Um I don't expect him to be there next year. No, I hope he's here. What else? What else? What else?
SPEAKER_03They had a really good running back, though.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they got a good running back. They got some good tight ends, they got a few good receivers. You know, their quarterback knows what he's doing.
SPEAKER_03Quarterback and coach that have been together. Right. So he knows how to.
SPEAKER_04You know, they they don't beat anybody that's ranked. So we'll see. Florida's number eight now. Yeah. Well, you got it. I mean, it the all right.
Top 25 Politics And SEC Logic
SPEAKER_04Let's just go ahead and touch on this topic of of the top 25 and the way that the SEC continues to just shuffle the the chairs to to prop their schedule up.
SPEAKER_03Like it's kind of like a bill that just passed in the Senate.
SPEAKER_04Right. It's like, dude, you it's like, yeah, all and well, this is we can't have Ole Miss losing to a team that's in the back half of the top 25. So they must be number eight. Because Ole Miss is really good because they beat LSU. And LSU's really good because they beat a shitty Texas AM team.
SPEAKER_03Here we go again.
SPEAKER_04Right. They beat Clemson. You know, and Texas is number one because they beat Ohio State, even though Arsh Manning is prop game. It's strong. It's just all of its bullshit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Florida did stick out. Yeah, they stuck out. What else from the college landscape stuck?
SPEAKER_04The other teams that that are good did what they were expecting. You know, Notre Dame kicked the shit out of somebody, Miami kicked the shit out of somebody. Alabama rolled again.
SPEAKER_03Um hey man.
SPEAKER_04That'll that'll be a big one. They're playing, they're playing in Starkville. And and Alabama. Mississippi State can score.
SPEAKER_03But I like I like Bama because they do have guys on defense that can make a difference. I mean, you can score on Bama. Well, I you know, they're they're gonna be hard to stop.
SPEAKER_04Let me bring bring a name up. Amari Williams at Mississippi State transferred from Florida State, playing on the defensive line, playing better than anybody we got right now here in Tallahassee. When he was here, he was a uh, you know, we kind of couldn't decide if we wanted to play tight end or defensive end. He's playing strictly defense up in Starkville, and and his last two games, he's been impressive. You know, shit like that.
SPEAKER_03That that's that's the other thing that stood out to me is just even in a win, even in a 34-7 win, it's the most the biggest matchup of last week.
SPEAKER_04Well, I uh over 40 minutes of possession for Central Arkansas. That's a problem. Yeah. And I like it, I honestly Ashton Daniels he could improve week to week. The offense can start clicking. It's not it doesn't matter because we can't stop anybody. This defense cannot stop anybody. He doesn't get rid of the ball fast enough.
SPEAKER_03Even if even if things are going well, like a good play is called, it could be even better. Yeah. I did I just think he's a little bit behind. I think he's a little safe or there's something there, but it takes him, it's not he's not a quick processor.
SPEAKER_04It it's the same, same thing, man. He the offense, if they can improve to be a team that could get you into a bowl game, it's not gonna matter because the defense is gonna let you down. It's the same story as
FSU Frustrations Despite The Win
SPEAKER_04last season.
SPEAKER_03Well, that that was great, but the best game of last week in college was in the big house. My Iowa Hawkeyes went with two seconds left from the 18-yard line, throw a back shoulder throw to win to beat the Wolverines. When a great throw, great catch. Oh my god, it was and I mean it was just a great play. And a little bit of karma as Michigan player was injured last year. It allowed Iowa to get a one playoff. Yeah. Because they didn't have any timeouts, but they got one down, and they had one play, and they executed that play to precision and gave us a great one the best finish so far this year. Yeah. I mean, you did have the the Michigan finish, but it shouldn't have counted. Shouldn't have counted. Right? This one was all all square. Yeah. What a what a great finish.
Iowa’s Last Second Shock In Ann Arbor
SPEAKER_03Iowa now will host game day as they take on Ohio State next week. So we will find out. But other if they get past that game, even if they don't, their schedule is very appealing to make in the playoff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I mean, let's let's say they don't beat Ohio State. Their biggest test would be next week, next Friday, against Washington. And honestly, you can even lose.
SPEAKER_03There's there's games that they there's gonna be games at their favor by like six that should win like Northwestern and Nebraska. Right, right. But this is an opportunity after getting that that kind of win that usually never do. Yeah. I I think this is an Iowa team that needs to make the playoff.
SPEAKER_04I well, I think they're they're your dark horse. Yeah. You know, when you you look at the Big Tenny, you look at who's not gonna be there that was there last year. There's no Penn State. I don't think Indiana's as good as they were. Well, they don't they they don't have a quarterback. Right, their quarterback isn't as good.
SPEAKER_03Right. So I think they're still good.
SPEAKER_04Right. Their defense is still really good. Their offense still works when you know Texas still. They also have they've they've Texas? No, no. I think Miami's the best team in the country. Miami, they haven't played anybody, but it's a lot of people.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, they're playing. Their win over Wake Forest doesn't need to be overlooked anymore. Exactly. Wake Forest Louisville, what a game that was. Back and forth, but what a performance by Wake and Rodriguez the receiver. Yeah. That guy, I mean, that that team, they were explosive, and they went in into Louisville. Yeah. And beat the Cardinals.
SPEAKER_04But it's kind of always the same story with Brian Braum and Louisville. Like their their offense will, you know, they put up these these points and they great plays.
SPEAKER_03They they just can't stop anybody. This is a game. I mean, it goes back, is I mean, like, we beat Wayforce 42-7 last year.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I was like, what? That's what I'm saying. Like, it's it's gonna be the only FBS team to score in single digits against Tony White at FSU in his in his whole career.
SPEAKER_03That is some sort of like because he won't be here next year. The one the one offense he can shut down is Wake. Right. It doesn't maybe the the the five five the three five three three five reacts well to the mesh.
SPEAKER_04I don't I don't I don't know what the hell it was. Maybe maybe maybe their quarterback had money on the game last year. It's a different guy. They went out and got a different quarterback.
SPEAKER_03Um that was a good game, man. I watched that. That was that was fun. Everybody, I mean, they had the big games Tennessee, Texas, but I was watching the no that was that game was boring. Yeah. I mean, the best game of that that that slate was Louisville Wake.
SPEAKER_04Right. I'm gonna look listen.
SPEAKER_03You put Arch Manning because Louisville still scored, and they're they're they're still explosive.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and they got NC State this week, but they probably won't have their starting quarterback. They they won't have Lincoln clean holes.
SPEAKER_03Norvell did talk about being the ACC is crazy, and that's Miami has a light schedule, but it almost is like that the whoever is gonna play them is gonna be a well, there is no hard schedule in the ACC.
SPEAKER_04That's the thing.
SPEAKER_03It's gonna be a crazy fan. If you look at it right now, if you're gonna be Miami versus like one of five teams, probably right.
SPEAKER_04And if you look at the ACC right now, Miami played, they they played Wake Forest. They're not losing. They play Louisville, they play Virginia Tech that's four and oh that's right. They don't. No. Well, they play Virginia Tech that's 4-0, they play Pitt that's 4-0, they play Clemson that's still 3-1. Like, as hard as ACC schedules come, like Miami still has teams that they gotta play. There's just no hard schedule in the ACC if you're a good team.
SPEAKER_03Barring injury, nobody's beating that.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_03And the the race in the ACC, which will be crazy, will be who plays in. Yeah, it's gonna be, yeah. Yeah. In that game, I think you'll have a shot. Whoever it is.
SPEAKER_04Well, it probably not, but it's very like it's very likely gonna be a team that they've already played. Right.
SPEAKER_03Unless Virginia can run the table, it's it's probably gonna be one of Pitt or Virginia Tech or Well the Bears had Case Keenum show up, and they looked lights out.
NFL Week Chaos Bears Surprise Win
SPEAKER_03The Eagles looked lights out in another in just another meeting. That that 27-7, the Bears beat the Eagles without Caleb Williams and Justin dancing in the street.
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean, there there was there are some plays that Keenan made which are just like, dude, like I don't I thought are just plays that a guy who's been in the league for 15 years makes. You know, some of the throws where he's on his back foot and just leaves him hanging up in the air, but he knows his experience. Yeah. And and Ben John, like Ben Johnson had Vic Fangio in hell all night. Yeah. Like he and that that's another thing is when you're a coordinator that has like 20 plus years experience in the NFL, everything you do is on tape. Yeah, everything you're gonna do. Like these young coordinators have come up studying your shit. It's the same way Urban Meyer, when he got to Florida and with Dan Mullen, is like, dude, we've seen Mickey Andrews for the last 20 years running cover zero. Like, we're gonna design an offense that can just destroy that. And that that's what it looked like. Yeah, like he had an answer for everything, and honestly, man, it could have been worse if they if they don't fail to convert there in the red zone.
SPEAKER_03The Bears, hey, good good win for the Bears. Yeah, I'm the captain. Uh Juniors on Juniors driving the bus. Um The Raiders are three and oh. Three and oh? The Vikings come on, nobody had that. No, I don't care who you have. And I thought they wouldn't suck as bad because nerd alert. Right. And I was like, well, they they this coach is you know, it's he's an actual coach. Yeah, but he grew up in football. Yeah. You know, you have Mendoza, the number one pick. Well, you got nerdies, dude. Then you have stability with cousins. Then you have the money man in Cousins who's gonna teach you how to be a like invest and just make the most out of every defense. Your defense is stepped up. Nobody's made more money based on production than Kirk Cousins. And he's a good court, he's not bad. No, he has been paid like he is like one of the greatest ever.
SPEAKER_04Well, speaker, he's no no headaches with him. It's like all like we we can we can sign him to his contract, and we don't have to worry anything. Like he's gonna study the playbook. Right.
SPEAKER_03He's gonna know the plays.
SPEAKER_04This is your straight A student, man.
SPEAKER_03You're you're you're valedictorian. Like you but he's got that team, a great move to bring him in with Mendoza. That's a great, yeah, that's a great combo. I mean, that and and it's been they got Bowers back, and Bowers is Bowers is is and it and that's the that's unstoppable. Oh, I know what I'm gonna do. We got this guy back, I'm gonna just keep feeding him. Right. And and it just throw him the ball.
SPEAKER_04As the season progresses, and if they continue to win, he will be it'll start to become a bigger deal.
SPEAKER_03They're going against the Chiefs next week who look back really good. Yeah, I mean, Kelsey looks like five years ago because Kenneth Walker's there. Right. They can run the ball. And Andy Reid is excited, man, like a double cheeseburgers. Yep. You know, like he and loving them things. Mahomes, you don't he doesn't need to do everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's gonna allow him to get healthy. Takes a ton of pressure off him. And but and he can save it for when they need it. And because he's got that. And oh man, they look really tough. Yeah, they yeah. Now I can't wait for that game. Yeah, Drake May.
SPEAKER_04Drake May looks bad.
SPEAKER_03This guy was second in the MVP vote last year. He looks lost. He does exact. I mean, they look he looks awful. Yeah. Awful. Well, they they can't run the ball. This is an lost quarterback. I haven't seen picks come this hard like since this is like bad Jameis. Yeah. It looked, it reminded me of one of those games. Right. Like a bad Jameis. Bad Jameis. Yeah, bad Jameis.
SPEAKER_04But again, again.
SPEAKER_03He had that's a lot of trust in his ability.
SPEAKER_04Well, you're talking about a coordinator in McDaniels who's been doing this shit for a long time. That's where at the highest level. You had a guy like Brady doing it, so we know what it looks like when you have the right at the Patriots. Yeah. You were at the Super Bowl last year. And I'm not underselling all the offseason shit that may have.
SPEAKER_03Schedule matters, I guess.
SPEAKER_04Right. Schedule matters, everything that went on in the offseason with their head coach.
SPEAKER_03Oh, what?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It just, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I haven't hit it.
SPEAKER_04Hit it. But yeah, he he looks bad early on.
QB Panic And Coaches On Notice
SPEAKER_04Um the Bucks look just awful.
SPEAKER_03Like, dude, 0-3. At this point. Every year is 0-3. I think Deadman Walken is the coach because they signed Baker. They signed Baker, so they're not firing the guy you just signed. I think the players are gonna know it. I it was obvious when Mike Evans left. Yeah. He's like, look, man, solid, man. We'll win six games. No. Well, listen, thank you.
SPEAKER_04And the defense, the defensive side of the ball is you know Vita Veo holding out. Right. Well, and that's the thing. You have arguably the best nose tackle in football, so that's a huge.
SPEAKER_03Well, you just like get this coach that's just telling you how terrible you are, and you gotta do better. That's all this guy does. His yeah, the message wears thin.
SPEAKER_04These are these are grown men, dude.
SPEAKER_03Like, you know, it's gone thin. I think he's yeah, he's dead man walking. Once you tune him out, he's out. Uh Buffalo pulled a SMU in Tallahassee and won the game minus turn minus four turnovers. Yeah. God, Sandy. Chargers. How do you you're minus you get plus four? Yeah, they're it's over.
SPEAKER_04They're in trouble. No, this season's over. And it it falls up with it falls on the QB.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Or the coach. Hey. Is it or is Josh McDaniels not that good?
SPEAKER_04Mike McDaniel. I mean, he's a great running game. Mike McDaniel, I'm sorry. Right. He's great, he's great running game guy. But the thing is, is like he's also had, you know, when he was in San Francisco, he had quarterback. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03Well, they look like hot garbage.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. The Browns are two and one? Two-and-one. Who saw that coming? Especially after week one.
SPEAKER_03And the Giants are two and one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And that was like, hey man, I'm gonna tell you right now, dude.
SPEAKER_03As they pick up JJ McCarthy.
SPEAKER_04Right, let's emergency pay. But can't like it's week week week to week with Cam Ward. Really? Yeah. The patience is is wearing thin. I've like I I see the way that Robert Sala is I can see it on his face. I can see what's his face, old fat boy Brian DeBoole's reaction in the press box. You you cannot get in the red zone and and do that. You can't fail to convert once. I thought they were gonna win. You can't throw a pick when you're going in for the game-winning touchdown. Like well. I mean, it hey man, it's a hard league. NFL's tough.
SPEAKER_00We had to go. Our rod was here. We gotta shuttle.
SPEAKER_04It's also over for the Packers.
SPEAKER_03We got a shuttle. And the Packers. Dear Jack.
SPEAKER_04Shrek. Matt LaFleur, go ahead and hop on this shuttle with us. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Make it big, and then it's fizzle out sometime, and you're young, man. Yeah, you're young. Whole life ahead of you. You're young.
SPEAKER_04All that money. You go be a coordinator somewhere, maybe get another job. You can work with your brother out in Arizona.
SPEAKER_03No.
Do Guaranteed Deals Kill Motivation
SPEAKER_04Hell no. Lincoln Riley? I don't feel bad for Lincoln Riley.
SPEAKER_03Honestly, I don't know why it's not talked about more. Because I think there's once you get the contract, what's your motivation? Yeah. Yeah. Pay this coach. Yeah, go ahead and my money's guaranteed. Fire me. Go ahead and fire me. I'll just I'll just spill out the same urs shit that I've already memorized. Right. I'm just gonna show up. I'm just showing up so I'll get fine. In a player than it is in a coach. No. No. And then they don't have to go out there and get hit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I don't feel bad for any of these coaches.
Baseball Heartbreak And The Wrap
SPEAKER_03I feel bad for the guys that aren't getting bit. I feel bad for the Phillies closer. Who gave up that bum to Austin Riley?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. What is Don Manningly thinking?
SPEAKER_03That was such an awesome afternoon.
SPEAKER_04But you got nothing else in the pen that you could have brought somebody in and seeing.
SPEAKER_03It really will. Because any like you saw the fact that Bryce Harper hits the home run, well, a foul ball that was a foot and a half. It was like 10 feet at least. But it wasn't a foot and a half, excursion. But but still, off the bat, you're like, oh crap. Right. And just like that. And then I think, but then Ryamutu is a hit. It's over. There's two outs. This guy hasn't done all nothing all year. Boom! Boom. You're up 5'3. You just won the game. I mean, you go from like, it's over, then you're like, I'm on the ground. I think I had a like a I think I started having like a I don't know. Palpitations, yeah. That was awesome, man. Baseball does it like any no other sport I've ever experienced. But a lot of good games this week. I'm gonna watch them. We're gonna pick them, and we're gonna talk to you next time, right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
SPEAKER_02You gotta give us a shot. You know what?
