Episode 5: DEI Focus - Body Size Bias & the Problematic use of BMI
•
Stephanie White, DO
This longer episode (28 minutes) briefly covers the history of BMI and size bias in the United States. Dr. White then offers some alternative approaches to discussing weight, weight loss and body size by shifting the conversation. She suggests asking the patient “How do you want to feel in your body?” and “What do you want your body to be able to do or keep doing?” She covers common pitfalls in movement and nutrition counseling and suggest a more Person-Centered approach to patient care.
