Ep. 16: David DeParolesa of VERS
Show Notes

Hosts Jim & Freddie bid farewell to the womb of our cozy/creepy recording "studio" after 16 shows recorded there as we prepare to move our show downstairs to the RedEye NY stage for live audience tapings next week! They preview what the new show might look and sound like... but a lot of that is gonna be up to you, Thotlighters!   Freddie also explains his other new role at RedEye.

Then the boys have a great talk with owner of new HK venue VERS, David DeParolesa! Coming from the non-profit sector, Boston native David opened VERS this summer with a specific vision for a venue in the very unpredictable (and cluttered?) post-Covid queer bar scene in Manhattan. Known for high end cocktails, an expanding menu (with brunch on the way) and eclectic entertainment ranging from drag to cabaret to a popular new queer Asian party, VERS has become an important destination for sophisticated gays looking for something new. There's a fun Crown & Anchor collab coming our way this weekend as well!

VERS has made national news recently since it's windows were shattered several times within a few weeks, most recently in an incident that was caught on camera on the same night as the anti-queer motivated mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs.  Does David know the arrested suspect Sean Kuilan, and what were his real motives? There's a lot more Tea to this story then what the media is reporting on, children, and David's got some details for us.

In the news: local queens kvetch on the social re: whether or not there's a drag oversaturation in NYC;  a baby queen disrupts a show at Pieces; The New York Times covers local nightlife's "roofie-ing problem" ; a firearm-related vandalism of a power substation in North Carolina was maybe related to Drag Story Hour; armed Proud Boys disrupt another Drag Story Hour in Ohio;  Whorechata's creator wrote a fun piece about the return of cruising and public sex in VICE that gave Jim flashbacks of the Bijou Theater; Julius' Bar & a BK lesbian site officially become landmarks; NYC is deemed the second most lesbian city; GLAM Awards predictions for Best Nightlife Event.
