Spirit flights are canceled at LaGuardia, and the terminal energy changes instantly. We’re on the ground walking through what people are hearing, what’s confirmed, and what’s still rumor as Spirit Airlines appears to shut down operations at one of the country’s busiest airports. If you’ve ever booked a cheap flight and wondered what happens when the plan falls apart, this is the real-time version of that anxiety.

We also look at one surprisingly human indicator that suggests Spirit might still have a path back: whether employees still have their jobs. Staffing is more than an HR detail in the airline industry, it’s a signal about operational continuity, restructuring, and whether routes can realistically restart. That leads us to the bigger travel question: when an ultra low cost carrier falters, who picks up the slack for budget travelers and does anyone truly replace those low fares?

Then we unpack a moment that says everything about airline pricing and perception. A Delta passenger jokes, “Hope you brought your parachute,” and the Spirit traveler fires back with the math: $700 versus $300. It’s funny, tense, and painfully relatable, because for many people airfare price matters more than branding. If Spirit doesn’t return, do ticket prices climb by default? And if it does return, are ultra-cheap fares a smart win for consumers or a risky business model for airline reliability?

Subscribe for more on-the-ground travel stories, share this with a friend who always books the cheapest flight, and leave a review with your take: would you pay more to feel safer or keep the savings and accept the risk?

Okay, guys. Top of the morning to you. We have a situation here at LaGuardia Airport where Spirit Airlines has officially closed down. Now, I don't think they are completely shut down. I think there's still a chance for Spirit to rebound. Although all flights are canceled, there's still a chance for Spirit Airlines to rebound. And the reason I say that is because as long as you guys still have your jobs, then there's still hope. And if I'm not mistaken, according to news, the news, the jobs have not been completely cut. So with that being said, there's still an opportunity for comeback for spirit. Unfortunately, though, on the other hand, if spirit does not come back, uh we're going to need another airline to pick up where spirit has left off in some kind of form or fashion. Because I was just overhearing, as a matter of fact, I was actually involved in a conversation where a customer who was flying spirit was being teased by another customer flying Delta. And customer flying Delta said to the spirit customer, Hope you brought your parachute. You know, that was a little disrespectful, but you know, hey. And the spirit customer responded with, well, you know what? It was$700 to catch a Delta flight, and I'm paying$300 for Spirit. Listen, I'm not doing the$700. And I can understand that. So based on that one conversation, which I'm sure is the decision or part of the decision-making process for other customers that fly Spirit because the rates are so, you know, affordable. So who's going to pick that up? And are these affordable rates the downfall to spirit? Or is there some underlying factor? Well, with all things considered, guys, I think we need to uh keep our eyes open. Don't give up all hope yet. There may be an opportunity for a comeback for spirit, but as of now, all flights are canceled. This is OG Goat reporting live here at LaGuardia Airport. We're out.
