Episode 3: Illegal Firearms

As Winnipeg dealt with a rash of stabbings in 2022 - there is another problem on city streets that is growing... Gun crime.

There has been an increase in illegal firearm activity in the city over the past two years, and police remain concerned about the growth.

Many of the guns arrive in Canada illegally from the United States, coming across the border via personal vehicles, trucks or trains, and are often stolen and/or have obliterated serial numbers. Ghost guns, such as 3D-printed weapons are fairly new to Winnipeg and are showing up more frequently.

While gun crime isn’t anything new for the city, the particular weapons used have changed drastically in recent years.
