Episode 12: Illegal Tabacco

Winnipeg Crime Stoppers Season 1 Episode 12

Buying and selling illegal tobacco is a crime in Canada and a significant money-making enterprise for organized crime.
It is estimated the Government of Canada loses about $1 billion in tax revenue each year due to illegal cigarette sales, while provinces lose millions in revenue.

Our guest on this episode is retired Winnipeg Police Officer - Ron Bell.

After 30 years with the WPS, Ron went on to work with the Province of Manitoba as the Manager of the special investigation unit - Taxation. Most recently though, he has moved over to the private sector and is currently working as a consultant specializing in illicit trade prevention while educating & training law enforcement.

Ron provides incredible insight into the growing problem of illegal tobacco/contraband cigarettes in Manitoba & how Crime Stoppers plays a valuable role.
