MAMI on a Mission Podcast: Faith, Healing & Purpose

Amiga, You’re More Valuable Than You Think!

Mariana Monterrubio - Best Selling Author, Biblical Life Coach and Motivational Speaker Season 8 Episode 9

Ever feel like you’re stretching on tiptoe to see past the crowd, only to meet a wall of opinions, comparison, and noise? We start with Zacchaeus to show how Jesus notices what the crowd overlooks, and we use that moment to challenge the four A’s that keep hijacking our worth: appearance, affluence, achievement, and approval. If the algorithm has been your mirror or if titles became your name tag, this conversation will help you trade performance for peace.

We get honest about social media—the highlight reels, the pressure to always look put together, and the loop of chasing likes that never satisfies. Then we pivot to a reframing of success that set our hearts at ease: faithfulness beats followers. Drawing from Luke 19, we retell the parable of the minas through the lens of stewardship, not just money. Your mina is people, your talent is souls. In faithful hands, a life multiplies. In fearful, distracted hands, it gets buried. That shift helped us celebrate two fully committed women in a program as a holy win instead of a numeric loss.

If you’re in a building season, you’re not behind—you’re being formed. We talk practical ways to quiet the noise, fast from the endless scroll, and root identity in Christ where value is fixed and unchanging. Expect encouragement for entrepreneurs and purpose-driven women who feel overlooked, reminders that small steps matter, and a fresh vision for measuring impact one Zacchaeus at a time. Share this with an amiga who needs to breathe again, and if the message resonates, subscribe, leave a review, and tell us which of the four A’s you’re laying down today.

SPEAKER_00:

Hey amiga, today's episode is one your heart might really need. If you've ever questioned your worth, felt behind, struggled with comparison, or wondered if God sees you, this episode is going to speak directly to you. So let's get into it. Welcome to the Mamiana Mission Podcast, where when life be life and amiga, we call on Jesus. I'm your host, Mariana, certified biblical life coach, author, and your purpose-driven amiga, here to remind you that you don't have to walk through life on anything. Here we talk healing, identity, confidence, purpose, and those real life moments nobody wants to admit they're going through. But you know we all are. So grab your plefecito, settle in, and let's dive into the conversations that help you grow, breathe, and align your life with the woman God created you to be. And you're just trying to like jump, jump to see if you can even get a glance, you know, whatever of the performance, right? Or whatever it is that you're out there going to see, maybe it's a sporting event or what have you, and and you can't see, right? Well, let's think of those images of the people blocking you the same as we would people's opinions, those old labels, assumptions, your past, insecurity, comparison, social media, and family expectations. That's a lot. Like that is a lot of people standing in your way, not allowing you to see past that. But Jesus stops, he looks up and notices Zacchaeus, calls him by name and chooses him. So Jesus sees value the crowd cannot see. And so one of the four fragile ways we assign value that was shared in the message were the four A's, the four A's that mess with your worth. And he breaks them down, and I'm gonna give you a little bit more explanation to them. But number one is appearance, number two, affluence, number three, achievement, and four approval. And so I'm gonna break it down the way that he did. So I hope I do him justice. So number one, appearance. If it looks good, it must be good. We judge ourselves based on how we look, how put together we sing, what we post, or what our life appears like in person or online. But appearances, amiga, is a glass house, fragile and temporary. Your root your worth, your worth is not rooted in your image. And so let's think about that. How many times, and you know what, your social media will do this because it's like they have ears, right? They anything that you say or talk about, all of a sudden the ads that pop up or the type of videos that pop up are all things of something that maybe or perhaps you have spoken aloud, which in a way is a little scary, but that's also before we even had these smartphones, that's what the enemy would do, right? Like you would think certain things, and then all of a sudden in life, and I'm talking to the people that are from my time because you would be you would be able to resonate with this a little bit more, right? It's like how the enemy would put objects and things in your way. It's almost like the billboards, like the billboards knew exactly what you were looking for, right? And they were right there. And so, what does it do? Billboards also share how one should look, how one should be, how one should appear, right? How put together we seem. That's almost like the book, those books on organization, how everybody has these shelves and they're all labeled and neatly, you know, all neat and in alphabetical order and stuff. I'm gonna be honest with you, guys. I'm gonna be honest with you. My camp, my pantry does not look like that. It's not a mess, but it's all in there. I don't have things all organized. But there are some people that do that. Now, perhaps that's not organized. I laugh because sometimes my husband says he has two wives because he says he's got the professional wife or the wife, the work wife, the career wife, you know, the one that's on it wife. And then it's like as soon as I get home, like I take all of that off, and then I'm just the wife who's absent-minded, who's forgetful, um, who's just laid back. Nothing, I mean, my house is clean, but like I don't have that pantry that's in order. Now I straighten it up, don't get me wrong, but everything has its place, but it's not like alphabetically organized. Like I don't have it that put together. Our clothes are washed as soon as they're washed, they're put away. But my house looks lived in, it's comfortable, right? But also sometimes what we post or what we see others write or whatever, it affects us, right? Because we want to believe that life is perfect. When deep down inside we know that it's not, but when we are desiring a certain look or a certain appearance, it's almost like it jumps out at you, right? The second point was affluence. What do I own? This is that net worth versus self-worth trap. Money changes value every day. God says you do not, He appraised your worth based on Jesus' blood. Your worth is not tied to your income, it's not tied to your car, it's not tied to your house, it's not tied to your business sales, it's not tied to your material success. But how often do we associate what we have as something of value? Now, I'm not gonna say there aren't certain things that have value to them, right? But the type of value that we as people are in Jesus' eyes, his word says that we are more precious than stone, that we are more valuable than any type of monetary thing, you know, like none of that to him means anything. He is looking at our soul, he is looking at our heart, he is looking at who we are as a person, and he already said that we are valuable, that we were worth him dying on the cross. That right there, amiga, made me cry because it's so true. But how many times do we see that, right? Like, and I'm not, you know, no disregard because I used to be that same person that would do that. And it was like, because when I would get a new car, I would the first thing I would do was drive to my family's house. I'm like, all right. Now we don't have to literally drive to anybody's house. I mean, it's just like, oh, look at my new ride, and you post a picture of it on social media, or oh, I bought a new house. You post that on social media, like you're sharing all of these things with people. And then people are like, oh, okay. Some people may be like, oh, now she thinks she's better than us. And then other people are like, oh my God, congratulations, right? And we can get caught up in that. We can get caught up in putting value by what we have. And the truth of the matter is, we shouldn't have to. Okay. Number three was achievement. What have I accomplished? This one right here, Amia. This is the one that I would say the last two are the ones that I would say really hit home for me. Because this one I think a lot of us could resonate with, and that's titles, promotions, certifications, degrees, milestones, good things, but not your identity. You were valuable long before you ever achieved anything. But I will tell you this. I myself, this one right here, it was always about am I getting a promotion? Um, I'm getting all of these certifications, which I don't mind doing because I get these certifications because I'm always loving to learn. I love learning things. At once upon a time, yes, promotions meant something to me. The titles meant something to me because it it told me that someone was looking at the things that I was doing and they appreciate, not that they appreciated, but that they were valuing it. So now they were putting a money value to that promotion. I was given the title, so I was looked at differently, right? The more certifications I got, the more valuable I felt I became to that job position, right? And then what do we do? We go around and instead of introducing ourselves for, oh, hi, I'm Mariana. I am, you know, this person who loves life and who loves her children and all these things, right? It became, hi, I'm Mariana, the career coach. I'm Mariana, the program coordinator. I'm Mariana the you fill in the blanks, right? Oh, oh yeah, I've got a degree of business, you know, in business management. And you know, we talk about these things and like how we achieve them and how excited we are. Oh, yeah, I got another award, or you know, yeah. And yes, I do tell people I am a number one best-selling author because I am, and I'm very proud of that. But there again, though, I used to say it a lot because I was very excited, I was on that high of having achieved that, and I wanted people to look at me because of that, because of I wanted them to know that what they were getting was someone who knew what they were doing, and that's not what I want to do, amiga. I if I ever coach you, it's because I want to help pour into you and help you achieve the things that you want to achieve according to God's will. What is God's will for you? What is it that He desires for you? And if you didn't hear last week's episode, I highly encourage you, listen to it because it talks a lot about your purpose, your calling, your assignment. And that's what I want to be able to give back to you, right? Is to be able with my training, but at the same time, as someone who can cover you in prayer, as someone who can talk to you in the words of Jesus and encourage you and help you achieve those things that you want to achieve, doing it for you so that you can take on the next assignment that God gives you, if that makes sense, right? And so that is why I do what I do. But before all of these other things, now I'm not saying any of these things are bad, but what I'm saying is that if you allow for all four of these things to be the thing that determines your value, then you've missed the point. Okay. And so lastly, approval. Do people like me? That one right there, a long time ago, I would say that one right there was the one that I fell into the trap. Because one of the things that Pastor said was we spend our whole lives chasing approval, but the crowd's approval is unstable and unpredictable. If your worth is determined by people's reactions, likes, or opinions, you will always be searching for someone's approval. And here's the thing only God sets your value and He does not change. And that reminds me of a time that I was always seeking for approval from my family, from friends, from people that I worked with, from so many, and that was because my insecurity was at an all-time low. So I mentioned a little bit about the social media trap. Now, amiga, listen, I fallen into that social media trap more times than I'd like to admit. And we all share the highlight reels, right? The makeup, the success, the achievements, the angles, the filters, but we rarely share heartbreak, pain, adversity, mistakes, the moments we feel lost or insecure. And when someone does share their struggles, the crowd says, don't put that out there. So we pretend, right? We curate or we perform and we post the polished and hide the process. And Amiga, I would be lying if I said it hasn't affected me because I've felt the pressure to always look put together, always show up dressed up and made up, appear like I'm constantly around successful people, post achievements to stay credible, prove myself, seek approval, and check my post to see if anyone noticed. It became an addictive distraction. And I'd catch myself checking, and up until recently, did anyone like my post? Did anyone comment? Is my real performing? Are people paying attention? And that cycle created insecurity, like I wasn't doing enough or growing fast enough. But Jesus reminded me the crowd doesn't determine your value. He does, not the algorithm, not the metrics, and not anyone else's pace. Your worth is rooted in him alone. And I said that earlier. I have to fast from social media because it becomes noisy. A lot of noise. It's distracting, right? And so the building season and what God showed me is where I'm at today. So I've been building Mommy on a mission for three and a half years. And yes, it's growing. Women recognize it, women resonate with it, women are being transformed, but I still feel like I'm in that building phase. And sometimes it feels like it's taking forever. And I've compared myself to other coaches, wondered about God's timing, and felt like I wasn't growing fast enough. But while listening to this sermon, the Holy Spirit whispered, Your mina is people, your talent is souls. Steward the ones I send you. And then he reminded me of something this year. And that was that last March, I four women had joined my Empower Her beta group. So I had launched out Empower Her. Well, not launched out, but I was testing the Empower Her curriculum and program. And four women signed up. They started out, but only two ended up committing and received everything God had for them. And then later at Adrial Women's Health, when I finally launched it, six women started again, and only two truly committed. Two each time. And God said, celebrate the two. Heaven celebrates one. Jesus chose one, Zacchaeus, and it changed his entire household. And Amiga, he's doing the same with you and with me. So let me give you a little bit of that the parable of the minas. Okay, so I'm gonna kind of reframe it, right? So right after Zacchaeus, Jesus tells the parable of the minors, and now it makes so much sense. The minor represents souls, people God entrusts us in faithful hands, a soul multiplies in fearful or distracted hands, it gets buried. Your influence isn't measured by crowds, but by faithfulness, one soul at a time, one moment at a time, one Zacchaeus at a time. And so I'm gonna grab my Bible real quick because, and I know many of you probably have already heard this parable, but for those of you who are still like, okay, I'm hearing what you're saying, but I still don't understand the parable. What parable are you talking about? Okay, so let's go ahead and go to Luke 19. And I'm gonna open up my Bible. If you have yours, go ahead and join. So as I'm looking, you can be looking to so Luke 19. And let's see here, we're gonna talk about the parable of the ten servants. It says the crowd was listening to everything Jesus said, and because he was nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story to correct the impression that the kingdom of God would begin right away. He said, A noble man we called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return. Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, or in other words, minor, saying, Invest this for me while I am gone. But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, We do not want him to be our king. After he was crowned king, he returned and called in the servants to whom he had given the money. He wanted to find out what their profits were. The servant, the first servant, reported, Master, I invested your money, or I invested the minor and made ten times the original amount. Well done, the king exclaimed. You have been faithful with little. I entrusted you, so you will govern ten cities as your reward. The next servant reported, Master, I invested your money and made five times the original amount. Well done, the king said. You will be governor over five cities. But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money or the original amount of minor and said, Master, I hid your money and kept it safe. I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn't yours and harvesting crops you didn't plant. And so the king says, You wicked servant, your own words condemn you. If you knew that I'm a hard man, what I'm sorry, if you knew that I'm a hard man, who takes what isn't mine and harvests crops I didn't plant? Why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it. Now, then turning to the other standing nearby, the king ordered, take the money from the servant and give it to the one who has 10 pounds. But master, they said, He already has 10 pounds. Yes, the king replied, and those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. And as for the enemies of mine who didn't want me to be their king, bring them in and execute them right here in front of me. So what he's talking about is a lot of people think about that parable and always think about money, you know, in the mind, because it does talk about money, right? But we always relate it to our income or what are we investing in, or we being good and faithful servants towards the money, the provision that he gives us. But the way the pastor shared with me, because again, like I said, I have been in that building phase of my business. And I'm like I said, I'm gonna be very, very transparent over the years, over the last three and a half years, it's been about building, building relationships, building community, building so having conferences and just you know building this sisterhood, and I have yet to make any money. I have received income. I mean, I have received money, but it goes right back into the business, so I never really have gained an income. Okay, so I'm not profiting out of my business as of yet, and so that's where I say I felt like I have been failing, like I'm not doing enough, like my perhaps the ads aren't good enough. I've been investing in coaches, I've been investing in all of these things, and it hit me like nothing else when I heard about this. Is that yes, I am building, but God has given me the people, the people he needed me to invest in. And so if he has given me two each time, then perhaps he's going to give me more at a later time. Right? So the the minor represents souls, people God entrusts us to entrusts to us in faithful hands. A soul multiplies in fearful or distracted hands, it gets buried. Your influence isn't measured by crowds, but by your faithfulness, one soul at a time, one moment at a time, one Zacchaeus at a time. So 1 Peter 1, 18 through 19 says, God appraised your worth based on the precious blood of Jesus, not the four A's. Your worth is unchanging, it's priceless, it's eternal. You are valuable because He says so. I just thought, like, wow. Wow. So I mean if you've been questioning your worth or feeling behind, just like I have, then I need you to hear me. You are more valuable than you think. Your building season matters. My building season matters, your small steps matter, your two matters, and God isn't done with you, and he's not done with me. He sees you, he loves you, and he's moving you and your life right now. He is moving in your life right now, or should I say? So I hope, Amiga, that this message gave you a sense of encouragement. If you've been feeling like, oh my God, I haven't accomplished anything or haven't made it, or you know, my business isn't booming the way I see other businesses are booming. You know what? It's not about what other people are doing, it's about what Jesus is doing right now for you. And that is one of the things that I'm resonating with right now, because I will be very honest. I was like, I'm ready to throw in the towel, I'm ready to give up. Because it when you are an entrepreneur, it is not for the weak. You are gonna have moments where you're crying, you're gonna have moments where you're celebrating. You're it's it's like a an up and down emotional roller coaster when you have a business. But when you have a kingdom business, there's going the enemy is going to use everything that he can to try to distract you, whisper lies to you, and make you believe that it's not succeeding or it's not, you know, going anywhere. And the truth of the matter is that if this is a kingdom business. So that means that this is the way God wants it to be in this time. I'm supposed to be obedient to what he's calling me to do. And what he's telling me is that I need to be obedient in making sure that I am helping you, amiga, get a closer relationship to God. He's telling me that I need to pour into you and share with you his message. It's not about perfection. He doesn't want you to be perfect, he doesn't need you to be clean, he doesn't need your appearance to be all that before you come to see him, before you come and kneel before him. He doesn't need you to have all of these things in place. He doesn't need you to have a perfectly clean house, he doesn't need you to have any of these things. What he Needs from you is for you to give him some time. What he needs from you is for you to trust him and to believe in him and to have faith in him that he is going to deliver in due time. The season will be here before you know it. And you don't have to fight to seek his approval because he has already approved you. And that's the beauty of God is that God paid that price already. And so we just need to be here to surrender to him and say, okay, Jesus, I'm here. I'm here and I'm ready. And so before we go, Amiga, I just want to share with you that I do offer one-on-one coaching, but I also have a group coaching program that I am very proud of that I really, really enjoy teaching, and that's the Empower Her Transformation Program.
