50, NOT DEAD

Nicole Smith: HBR Editorial Audience Director; I Was a Manager in an Ageist Workplace

Kamrin Huban Season 1 Episode 19

Harvard Business Review Editorial Audience Director, Nicole Smith, shares insights on writing the HBR article titled I was a Manager in an Ageist Workplace.    Nicole also just moderated an event with The Wharton School's Peter Cappelli titled Navigating Ageism at Work: The Forgotten DEI Factor.

Nicole found herself managing a team; over 50's who sat in one part of the office and the under 30's who sat in another part.  And they never, ever crossed territorial lines.  That is until Nicole came along and put them all on a project together.

She saw ageism, she impacted ageism, and she changed ageist practice in her place of work.  I love her practical way of approaching this and how it became a model for other departments.

Her advice to managers feeling stymied by ageism, find a project  you care about and put together a team of people of mixed ages together to solve it.
