50, NOT DEAD

Shana Kahn: Growing Up in the Chiffon Trenches, Ageism is Thinly Veiled in the Fashion Industry

Kamrin Huban Season 1 Episode 22

Shana Kahn spent 24 years in the fashion industry and in her early forties saw her opportunity for growth and promotion continually and blatantly diminish.

In her words,  it was with shock and awe that she had to come to terms with the fact that though she was producing excellent results and helping grow the company she had been in for years, she was kept in a "nice and neat little box" training the younger generation for the jobs she wanted.

She urges companies to have an open mindedness about their long standing, experienced employees. Don't assume they don't want (or can't) to continue to learn and grow.

Her message to others in the Fashion Industry: Be true to yourself.  Keep pushing, trying, and developing yourself.  Don't stop and never give up.
